    Fire Burrito

Came here for a quick pit stop for lunch while running errands and was not disappointed! We got the pho and a sushi burrito. Everything tasted incredible. And the pho was a good size portion. The sushi burrito was delicious and served with sauces that complimented the flavors really well. Very happy we stumbled upon this place!

Came here a couple nights ago to dine in the restaurant was fairly quiet decorated with colorful holiday lights. It was very cozy comfortable vibe. The menu is HUGE. There are a lot of options which can seem overwhelming. The staff were kind and the food was served in a timely manner The red curry was a thinner consistency than what I'm used to more soup like than I'd expect but yummy and contained lots of veggies. The Pho was super good added some sauces and toppings and just wished there were more noodles (shared between two people so they went quick). The fancy roll was good. Definitely coming back because the service was nice and the restaurant just has a relaxing vibe with homemade like feel to the food.

    Chicken pho or pho ga

Absolutely TERRIBLE. I just spent $20 on pho ga. The menu said $10 which seemed weird. I asked for extra chicken bc I usually double down on protein. They charged me $4.25 for extra chicken which was expensive but I thought ok fine the world is expensive these days. I got about 2.5 tbs of chicken total...and basically none of the sides. Super stingy...the broth tastes like chicken noodle soup broth...TERRIBLE. DO NOT go here unless you want to get ripped off.

I was really craving some sushi and noticed Hai's when I went grocery shopping! Located on the same strip mall as Kroger, I decided to go ahead and give this place a try. I got my standard order that I get from all sushi joints: tuna and crunchy shrimp roll. My order was ready fast and I took it to go. I will say that the food most definitely satisfied my sushi craving. It wasn't the best quality sushi I ever had, but by far had one of the most reasonable price points in town. I think if you come here with that expectation, you'll leave pleased!

We had a party of 10 and they seated us quickly. However I don't think they are staffed well enough to handle such a large party, or a huge crowd in general. It took a while for them to place their orders, even longer to get it. Establishment was a bit warm, so were the beers. My wife and I ordered way too much, mostly me. Luckily I told them to bring out the order as soon as it was ready instead of waiting for everyone's food to be ready at once. Thank goodness because it would have been over an hour and a half which is how long it took for the last dish to come out. Edamame - 0/10. This came out the quickest and was cold. Chicken satay - 4/10. Wasn't overly impressed. Sushi Rolls - 6/10. Mango Paradis was good. Not so much the Double Shrimp. Hot and Sour Soup - 1/10. Wouldn't recommend and didn't come with a side order of rice. Pho - 2/10. I ordered the deluxe which came out to $16 (woah) and wasn't very flavorful. Pork Rice Plate - 2/10. We ended up taking this to go. Had it the same night and the pork chop was not marinated very well.

    Tuna salad roll

My experience with Hai's was a bit lackluster but I can't tell if it was just me not ordering the right thing. If you look at the photo of the Tuna Salad roll I got it *looks* amazing. *Looks*. However, the tuna was not the melt-in-your-mouth fresh that I was hoping for. When I get a roll with raw sushi the freshness of the fish really needs to shine since there's no fallback of the tempura or cream cheese to mask the flavor. If I was rating on presentation alone then it would be a 5--beautifully presented and a work of art. Since this roll was tuna, cucumber and a very light ponzu there just seemed to be something missing. It was like a was waiting for some taste to hit me and there wasn't the *umami* moment I was hoping for. It was bland. I also got miso soup and a small house salad and both of these were fine but the standard you'd get anywhere else. Service was good. Our server was attentive. The restaurant is small and very casual. It was a good choice for a weeknight dinner since there weren't a lot of people and we were seated right away. Also, the prices are very reasonable. Perhaps I'll be back to give it another try to *wow* me. Perhaps not.

We started off with a round of champagne and a bottle of red wine for dinner. We tried a variety of dishes since we were told that the set up is family style: Hamachi Crudo: 10/10 one of the best I've ever had! Super fresh and the sauce paired well with it. Bluefin Tune Crudo: 8/10 It was really fresh and well prepared, but I've had better elsewhere. I typically prefer bluefin tuna sashimi or nigiri anyway. Tuna Crispy Rice: 9/10 This was such a fun and delicious way to eat spicy tuna! All of the seasonings made it packed full of flavor. Tomahawk Ribeye 9/10: This was insanely tender, and well seasoned. Tip: ask for lemon wedges to sprinkle some lemon juice on it--thank me later. Broccolini 8/10: well prepared, and I loved the lemongrass garlic chili that topped it East Side Shrimp 7/10: These were well cooked and well seasoned. Loved the salad placed underneath it. Wagyu Tartare 8/10: It was well prepared and loved that it's paired with nori and rice. Wished it had a bit more punch to it in terms of seasoning. Crab Fried Rice 8/10: this was delicious but still say it's a solid 8. Beautifully prepared! Korean Hot Wings 2.5/10: I could tell that it was well cooked, but it was insanely salty; it was practically inedible. Hurricane Fries 9/10: These were so delicious! You are immediately hit with the smell of truffle, which made my mouth water. Packed with flavor! Brussels 7/10: These were well roasted, but the sauce was a tad too sweet for my liking. I highly recommend trying this place out!

By the bar we got to see some of the dishes being made. Great date night spot. Limited parking. This is a tapas spot and our serve did a good job recommending how many dishes to get. The only reason Noko is not getting 5 stars is because the server said that they would time out the dishes for us, so it was best to place our entire order all at once. However, we got 3 dishes and then it took about 30 minutes for other two to come out. Maybe we were eating too fast but felt like we were waiting a while for our food. The food itself was absolutely delicious. There was nothing we ordered that I did not like. Some favorites include the burnt ends lettuce wraps and Korean chicken wings. The Sando, shrimp and tuna crispy rice was also spectacular. The tuna was so flavorful and refreshing on the tuna crispy rice. The sauce of the east side shrimp really makes the dish. I'm not a huge shrimp person but this was really good. This is a must go to spot in Nashville and would definitely want to come back.

A good amoutn of tables, but does not feel too crowded. To get Shabu Shabu, you either sit at the bar or you grab a table that is condusive to shabu shabu. If you have multiple people ordering shabu shabu with different broths, you should grab the bar. The New York strip is better than the short rib, in my view. I did the miso broth, which is not overly salty, like some. A definite win for me. Adding in the spicy chile oil, fresh garlic, and scallions added the proper kick to the broth. The handroll was truly a handroll. She said she preferred when they sent it out rolled, as there was more rice than she normally likes. But the salmon itself was done well and tasty. The lamb lollipops were excellently done. I would return for this alone. Having numbers on the drinks is likely authentic, but I love creative names. The 35 is a Japanese twist on an Old Fashioned. The sishito pepper is a nice touch as a garnish (or appetizer?). The 34 was even better. It did not quite hit the high note of a similar drink at Sushi-San, but it did not disappoint. I can safely recommend this to anyone wanting to get shabu shabu without the all you can eat buffet option you get at shabu shabu on West End.

None of us had been to Present Tense before, and we were excited to try it (we picked it because the menu looked great and it was central - we were heading to Green Hills after and my brother in law was heading downtown). Present Tense is a Japanese-izakaya inspired restaurant and natural wine bar. It's tiny, with only 14 chef's counter seats, a few indoor tables, and even fewer outdoor tables. We had a reservation for 5:30pm. We waited a bit to be seated but were soon sat at an indoor table (the outdoors remained busier throughout our dinner). Reservations are recommended. We shared several dishes from their menu: a half dozen Miyagi oysters with yuzu leche de tigre and tarragon oil; yellowtail amberjack sashimi with citrus, orange wine, and olive oil; mushroom rice with an egg yolk and hemp seed furikake; Wagyu flat iron steak with black sesame mole and lime; and blood orange and prickly pear soft serve for dessert. We enjoyed everything, and I think it says a lot that argued about our favorite courses; one of us made an argument for almost every course. In addition to our food, we each had 2 glasses of wine or 2 cocktails (wine for me; cocktails for the boys). The wines are natural and interesting, and the cocktails were creative and delicious. The restaurant is modern and cool, and the ambiance was great. If anything is holding me back from giving Present Tense five stars, it is probably the service. It just wasn't the most welcoming/friendliest spot. And beware - the location is great (surrounded by lots of bars to go to after dinner - if you don't stay at Present Tense to keep drinking their great wine), but parking in Wedgewood-Houston is worse and worse all the time as it keeps expanding and growing. We found street parking a couple of blocks away, but our dinner was on the earlier side. Give yourself some time to find parking if you drive there. Overall, we had a really good time at Present Tense. The food was creative and delicious, and we enjoyed eating it and being surprised by it. And I loved their focus on natural wines. I'd come just to drink great wines and have a small plate or two. Anytime, really. Someone invite me, please.
