A bang for your buck ! The halal shop is located on SFSU campus and offers quick , affordable , and tasty Indian cuisine. Although it doesn't look like much from the outside (it's just window service) I was pleasantly surprised with my choice of chicken over rice. Wow! I went to SFSU for undergrad and never thought to go here for some strange reason. And now I am back in grad school and was told that this place is great and it absolutely lives up to expectations. I get the chicken tikka masala every time I go and not only is the food hot and delicious, it is also one of the only places on campus that is efficient enough to get through a long line quickly. My plate of food comes with chicken tikka masala, rice, and a small salad and it is only $9.75. How could you not give this place 5 stars?! Great food and great customer service! The food here is so good!! And the service is great. I have been missing halal cart in the city and this one but the spot. We were exploring the Berkeley campus during orientation and came across this Halal Shop food truck. I didn't have any food vouchers because I'm not a student but they were kind enough to offer me a falafel gyro on the house! The falafels were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. My favorite place to eat on campus hands down. This is what I would call fast food Indian food but it's worth every penny! I haven't been here since last semester, but I'm so glad I came today!! The worker (working alone around 4:15pm) was super friendly and made my Chicken Tikka perfectly!! They have a rewards system, so if you come here frequently you should definitely sign up! I have 7 points so far and I only need 3 more to get the reward (very excited as I come here quite often, I just forget to enter my rewards). On a tour of SFSU with my students, I stopped by here for lunch based on good Yelp reviews. Ordering was quick, and service was nice at the window. I ended up getting the tikka masala, but was a little bit underwhelmed. I suppose my taste and liking for chicken tikka has been conditioned by the Indian/Pakistani restaurants around my old university, but I felt this tikka masala was a little bit light-tasting. It's a great deal for a college student (under $10 for a meal), but I'd probably pay extra for meat that was more chunky and a more powerful chicken tikka masala taste. Also, not sure if they do this, but if not, it would be great to have naan as an option as well. read more

Simply delicious. In the student center of San Francisco State University. Very generous amount of lamb in a big pita bread that's super soft. Gyro meat? Mmmmm. Very tender with perfect amount of spices. Definitely a repeat if in the area. This is definitely not a grab-n-go dish. The sauce in the gyro is not eat-while-on-the-road type. It was a feel good (and affordable) meal for us college students. Long and behold, I was excited to discover that SF State has a Shah's too! I always order the chicken over rice - sometimes non spicy, sometimes spicy. For about $8 you get seasoned red chicken, rice, lettuce and white yogurt sauce. Simple ingredients, generous portions, and it taste amazing! I like mixing them all up together. You also get a free drink with your order. I'll admit, i was hoping this place was going to be as good as the Halal Guys in NY. They didn't really disappoint me. For 7.50 for portions are still pretty decent. I asked for extra white sauce which which is a yogurt sauce. I normally love white sauce so I enjoyed this very much. However, i felt like they give me too much lettuce, I might ask for less next time because the lettuce I asked for a little hot sauce, which i kind of wish i asked for more because i couldn't really taste it. Love eating here whenever I'm on campus! The service is fast and the workers are super polite. You can get a full meal for under 10 dollars, and the quantity is more than plenty to fill you up. Food I ordered the chicken over rice, spicy with white sauce (~8$) and it was pretty good. It comes half chicken and half like lettuce and sauce. It was a pretty good size but I was unable to finish the portions so I just saved it for later. I also tried the chicken gyro (~8$) my friend got. It was really good with lots of sauce in it. I also ordered a samosa (2$) I've had better samosas but this one was okay. The green cilantro sauce was really good though. Oh and the prices have a drink included which is also a plus! It's about time that SF State had a halal joint. Every item on the menu except the bottom two items already includes tax and a drink. Good deal! I tried the falafel gyro and the samosa. The samosa is huge and I thought the pricing is decent. The falafel gyro doesn't disappoint me, but i just discovered that I like Falafels a few months ago. It's not too big so it's not too overwhelming. You could also ask for it to be either mild or spicy (but I don't think it's really spicy). This will be good to get for people that observe Lent since falafel isn't meat. They take credit card too, which is a plus! I hope this place stays! read more

Whenever I am in the area doing ride share for students around this campus, I take my break and eat here. I love their Lamb Over Rice and Falafel over rice. You can't go wrong, it's cheap food for high quality taste. My only wish is I hope they open one up in the South Bay, so I can frequent it more often. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and the wait for my food usually isn't long, unless it's a crazy lunch rush, then be prepared to wait a while. But I think it's worth the wait, and I will probably try the Chapli Kabob and Rice next time or a Gyro to compare their Gyro to the ones here in the South Bay. read more

I've been eating here occasionally for the last three years on campus. It used to be better, the lamb gyro used to be so good and so filling. I noticed they have newer people working there but they don't add in as much meat and stuff inside anymore. And the gyros are definitely smaller. Used to be cheaper, and every meal had a free drink. Not anymore though, which is a bummer. I don't think I'll go back since it's been more expensive and less of the meal since before. read more
