I came here with a party of four, and we wanted to try a little bit of everything, so we ended up ordering quite a few dishes along with some wine--and still had leftovers. Our total came out to around $230 including tax and tip, which felt reasonable for the amount of food we ordered. The restaurant was pretty busy during dinner, but we were seated after about a 20 minute wait, which wasn't bad at all. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered the Goat Cheese Naan, Roti Calamari, Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Game Hen, Kale Fritters, and Gosht Biryani. My favorite dish was actually the Kale Fritters, which surprised me since I usually gravitate toward meat dishes. My favorite Indian restaurant ever! Been here a few times and it's always a great experience We had dinner here tonight and all tables were full, but despite the crowd service was super friendly, quick and accommodating. We ordered paneer makhani, lamb chops and dal and everything was delicious. Just the right balance of flavor, tenderness to bite and the slight spicy kick. Since the place was full, it was loud but it didn't feel overwhelming. It was still tolerable to have a decent conversation. I have sensitive hearing, so that's a huge plus for me. Also tried lunch service on and it' was not as busy then. Highly suggest trying their lunch specials as they were generous portions with great value. So so sssoooo yummy! I walked in for lunch on the weekend with a group of friends. This place was well decorated inside and looked a bit more elevated than the average casual lunch spot. I ended up ordering the chicken tikka salad and naan combo off the lunch menu and was pleasantly surprised. The salad was pretty good, but the star of the show was most definitely the naan. Came here with my friend who's from west portal and has been going here since he was very young (he's 20 now)! The owner immediately recognized him and greeted him which I was thought was super sweet. The service was great and the inside ambiance was calming and nice. It definitely seems like a family staple with customers who look like they've consistently been there. The food was so good. The chicken tiki masala was very good with amazing flavor paired with the saffron rice that was fluffy and flavorful. The naan was flaky and buttery + we tried one of the cauliflower vegetable curries that was also great! On a downward slippery slope for the past 5 years. Used to be an excellent restaurant overall. Went from very good to greasy spoon (litterally rice byriani was very oily) to a diluted version of any sauce (chicken murgh madras or lamb). Its been quite a while since I visited Roti, and it won't take as long to come back. Everything was great on this lunch visit. We had Chicken Tikka Masala, composed of boneless chicken tikka smothered in a tomato and cream base sauce with butter and mild spices. It was accompanied with basmati white rice and a cucumber and tomatoe salad. We also had Jheenga Palak with jumbo prawns cooked with spinach, fenugreek and spices. Came here for Sunday lunch. Place was only about 30% full. We made reservations but didn't need it at the time. We were greeted with a smile and serviced immediately. We did have to ask for anything because the server was quite attentive. Please was clean, well decorated and welcoming. Food was very good but not great. Everything was tasty and d we have no complaints. Was hungry and in a rush to eat and I forget to take individual pictures of each dish. Darn. I hate that when it happens. Went here with my mom. They sat us quickly and at a good table. My mom is very picky. There's a joke in our family where the waiter will ask "is anything alright?" to her because nothing ever is. Initially was concerned about pricing and thought it seem high but once we tasted the chicken biryani (which is how I usually judge my Indian restaurants) it made sense to me. The spices are fresh and you can taste the freshness. The biryani tasted like this fancy place that is been to about 20 years ago in Mumbai where the quality of the food mattered. What we were served and ate this evening wasn't just like a generic Indian restaurant. Service was the same as the last time I visited, warm and courteous. There wasn't space available and we didn't have a reservation but we were accomodated on the patio when we asked. It doesn't have a heater but we were dressed warm and the parklet enclosure didn't allow any wind in. TLDR Will come back. It was worth it. read more

Sauce was nice and large chunks of paneer, seasoning was good and just enough spice. Chicken tikka masala was standard. It's been a while since I've written a food review on Yelp. I thought Roti was a great spot to kick things off with as I work to grow my footprint on the San Francisco food scene. I'd like to start by saying that it's hard to find good (traditional) Indian food in San Francisco! At least I haven't found it anywhere except Roti, where they pull off traditional Indian food without deterring the more modern lovers of Indian cuisine. The best thing about this restaurant is their ownership and staff. It's a family run restaurant and it easily feels that way, with the owner's son working the front, and the owner running around ensuring smooth operations. Now onto the food, you can't go wrong with anything that they make. The butternut squash soup is not your traditional butternut squash soup, it's flavorful, hearty, and they make sure you can taste that garam masala in there without overpowering the butternut squash. The samosas come with chutney's and are moist, flavorful, and big! Don't even get me started on their curries, the cauliflower (gobi) with the smoothest and most complimentary curry flavor to the roasted vegetable. The paneer makhani, which has a perfect kick to it and is great for dipping the assorted breads into (great vegetarian option by the way). The Mango Lassi is amazing too, dense from the yogurt and perfectly sweet. The cherry on top of it all is that they have a full bar if a cocktail is on your menu! First time I went here was with my husband for new years 2019. The service was good, food was good, and the place was pretty nice too! Fast forward to last night and everything is still great! We went to have a late new year's dinner with my husband's brother along with our toddler. We ordered appetizer, lamb korma, chicken tikka, some naan, goat cheese filled naan, rice, mango lassi and a chai tea. We didn't realize how much food there was gonna be and believe me, it's very filling and the family size dishes are huge. We had a ton of food to take home which is always nice but don't over-order like we did since serving sizes are generous. Everything we ordered was good. Keep in mind the food might take long to come out so don't get impatient, but it's not too bad. Ingredients are fresh and meat is tender. We really enjoyed it. Our toddler had a little tantrum (more than once) and if you're a parent, you know the feeling of embarrassment when your little one starts yelling. It was absolutely nice that the servers were talking to him and trying to distract him. The owner himself kept checking on us and he was lovely! We were looking for some comfort food for a late lunch on a rainy Saturday and this place did not disappoint. The restaurant was somewhat empty when we joined so our food arrived very quickly. Very friendly staff. We ordered: - Papadum: can't go wrong with this. Came with the standard tamarind and mint/cilantro chutneys. - Aloo Gobi: the potatoes and cauliflower were good, the gravy it came in was ok. - Paneer Makhani: creamy and very tomato-y, did a good job of satisfying our craving for comfort food. - Garlic naan and roti: both tasted less fresh and heated up which is understandable given the hour of the day (2pm ish) but was somewhat disappointing We're spoiled with so many awesome Indian restaurants in the Bay Area. We were in the city for a hike and wanted to have sinful Indian food for our cheat day. Roti came up in Yelp as the top choice and we decided to try it. It was not very crowded at 130pm on a Sunday afternoon. Very clean and has a nice ambience. The lunch menu is different and serves combination dishes which has bread or poori with a main course , some salad and a masala chai. We chose Mattar Karchan and the Navaratan Korma. Both were mildly spiced and was not very oily. We requested a substitute for the poori and the owner obliged us. Most restaurants have either samosas or onion pakoras, do try the Bengan Pakoras - the Indian tempura version. He came by to ask about the food, spice levels and was very gracious. Came for lunch on a weekday and it was mostly empty. I'd say this place is definitely more so a dinner place given the decor and the proper cloth napkins. I will say it was a bit hard to find parking. Because of the area there's only so many meters and street parking that I parked a few blocks away. In terms of the food I ordered the saag paneer and it was really tasty! But honestly I'm sad it didn't come with more naan. I knocked it down a star because of the bang for your buck aspect I had a pretty solid experience here. If I could I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 but there's no half ratings so just made it a 3. read more
