Hale's came and fixed our chimney about 10 years ago. Recently I had them come back and clean out my dryer vent. He got so much stuff out of there. My dryer works great now. He was personable, easy to work with, and we felt good about spending $4,200 on our chimney repair. We trusted him. Fast forward to today -- wasps are getting into our fireplace. Not a small issue. I reached out to Clint simply asking him to come take a look. Just a look. After spending over four thousand dollars with this man, I thought that was a reasonable ask. Instead, he brushed it off like every homeowner in Texas was dealing with wasps in their fireplace -- as if that made it acceptable. Then came the kicker: he wanted to charge me just to come out and look. No fix, no repair, just a VISIT. And on top of that, he immediately shifted into sales mode trying to push a $500 guard on me. When I told him I was going to update my Google review, Clint laughed at me. On the phone. Laughed. Let that sink in. I've sat on this review for a while because I don't do this lightly. But that laugh told me everything I needed to know about how he really views his customers -- as transactions, not people. Clint, the $4,200 I spent wasn't just money. It was trust. And you burned it. To anyone reading this -- there are still people out there who genuinely believe in customer service and taking care of the people who supported their business. Our house was built in 1980 and the chemney probably hadn't been cleaned in well over 2 decades and we were beginning to get some soot and ash odors. Sherry was very nice on the phone. We told her all the information that we needed our chimney cleaned and we had a wood burning fireplace insert . She quoted us $389 for the service. Clint came to our home with his worker. Not only did our chimney not get cleaned, ( we know this because we had a second company come out to put in a new insert and liner) but he charged our credit card An extra $100 without our knowledge. He never sent over the quote for upgrading our fireplace with a new insert and made nothing but excuses why he overcharged us and did not do the work. We disputed with our credit card company and the extra charge was credited back. After the second company came out we found out that the chimney had actually not been cleaned at all. This is so very disappointing that a company is charging people for work they do not actually do. I would not ever recommend this company for any reason. Booked a fireplace cleaning and inspection for $299. First thing I'm told, before even opening the fireplace door, it'll be an extra $100 if I need to take this apart. It's a wood burning stove insert. I'm not paying an extra $100 so he just used an oversized shop vac on the inside of the stove & ran piece of equipment similar to a weed wacker up the chimney for a few minutes. The chimney wasn't cleaned from the top down, just from inside the house. The inspection consisted of a look inside the chimney from the roof, no pictures or even a camera onsite. Then I was told the flashing around the chimney needs fixing and a new chimney topper because he can tell rain is falling around the current topper into the fireplace. Rain doesn't get into the fireplace. All that could be done for 50% up front. He should've pulled the stove out & clean behind it but didn't. Way too much money for too little service. Unacceptable hitting up for more money before any kind of inspection. I can't recommend this place. read more

I had put in several requests for annual dryer vent inspection and service with companies around the DFW area and Hale's was the only one to call me back (and within 24 hours, I might add). I was blind sided by work that I never authorized. They claimed to have called me a couple of times which was bogus. I authorized them to work on 2 gas fireplaces on a remodel home. All I wanted was to freshen up a 22 yr old, dusty and dirty, fireplace. They ended up doing all of that but spray painting the interior black. I called several Chimney Sweeps and Hale's was the first to call me back. I booked about 6 weeks out ahead of the cold weather rush. Someone from Hale's called to confirm my appointment the day before. Martin called ahead of his arrival to confirm he was 30 minutes away. I had schedule a cleaning of two gas fire places in my townhome in the Oak Lawn area. Upon arrival, Martin and his colleague were clean and professional. They worked diligently asking for my feedback when needed. They made recommendations in a low pressure way -- I replaced a set of gas logs but declined some other repairs recommended. Martin provided before and after photos of all of his work, a fully detailed inspection report, and an estimate for the recommended work for future consideration. I would use Hale's Chimney again. I would also recommend a Chimney sweep for the peace of mind alone. read more

Word from the (regretfully) experienced: do NOT use this company! Here's what happened with us... We had a minor leak from the chimney and had the owner of our roofing company come out to inspect. He told us the issue that needed repair and to call a chimney repair company. I saw the good reviews on Hale and figured why not? FIRST RED FLAG: they charge you $150 to come out and look at the issue. It turns out, other highly reviewed, reputable companies come out for a FREE inspection - go with them instead! We were in a rush to get the job repaired to avoid further leaks so we went ahead and agreed. Hale tried to tell us we needed $2,000 more worth of work done (including what our roof co owner told us we DIDN'T need done) and the prices were OUTRAGEOUS ($950 for a new chimney cap we didn't even ask for, $700 to repair the mortar, $400 to seal perfectly good flashing, $250 for a chimney sweep). We agreed to the mortar and chimney sweep knowing we needed both. When we politely declined the overpriced chimney cap the owner Clint called me on the phone while I was on vacation to tell me I absolutely must do the chimney cap in addition to the other work or the other work wouldn't be guaranteed. He was very condescending to me on the phone (guess he thought I was uneducated?) and berated me while I sat there in disbelief. I again politely declined and said we would move forward with the other repairs. He then tried to retract the $150 credit to our account (they apparently "give" you the $150 inspection fee back if you agree to get the repair with them) because we didn't authorize all of his other exorbitant "repair" recommendations. Talk about a SCAM. Fast forward...they do the work and I find a MUCH BETTER, super honest and very kind chimney guy (Luke with Sullivan Chimney - 5 star reviews on Yelp, cannot recommend him enough!!!) who comes out for a FREE inspection and to quote us a custom cap for half the price Hale was trying to charge. I very much regret choosing this dishonest company. Luke came out today and said since Hale didn't seal the mortar correctly to make it waterproof (hey Hale, aren't you supposed to know how to do that correctly?!) it already has hairline cracks in it! Hale did the job LAST WEEK. $700 down the drain for us. If I were not a very busy and pregnant healthcare worker, I would have gotten up on the roof myself to inspect their work after they were done - that's how much I distrust them. Haven't used my fireplace in years and decided to get it inspected and cleaned for this year. Hale's was able to come out promptly. Glenn did a very thorough job cleaning and inspecting the fireplace and chimney. He even taught me some things I didn't know about how best to prime a chimney. Was a little more expensive than I expected but was worth it for their very honest assessment and thoroughness. I trust them wholeheartedly. And that's a good thing with fireplaces and chimneys. I decided to move forward and scheduled an appointment. It was two weeks out and the day of someone called to cancel and reschedule. Today was the reschedule and I received another call they cannot make the time and can it be changed. This is a chimney inspection in the middle of August!!! First they want a payment just to come out and inspect. I asked if they would just come do the mortar work I know I needed done, and they said no. So I acquiesced and scheduled them. My wife stayed home all day for them to show up from 9am-1pm. They called me three times to confirm. Moderately annoying but no big deal...but then they hadn't showed up by 2pm. I had to call them 3 times before they answered. The woman who answered couldn't have been ruder. After attempts to get her to commit to a tighter time window next time, and her subsequent refusals, I told her I would have to take my business elsewhere. She said ok and hung up on me. They cleaned some out and then said we need $1500 more to clean it with their unique chemical application among other charges. It took me calling to even get their inspection report! I called another Chimney Company who came right out and was shocked I actually had already had my chimney cleaned. He grabbed a handful of creosote from my fireplace! Seems Hale's would rather I pay $1500 more than actually manually clean my chimney. Don't waste your money! read more

They were: -professional -on time -EDUCATIONAL - honest I knew that we had a few repair items that could be done. They gave a good break down of everything and talked about what was needed now vs down the road vs cosmetic on the chimney. Actual fireplace was good and they spent a good bit of time educating us on what we had (we've never had a fireplace before so didn't know much about it). I thought with all of the great reviews that I was going with a good company. They called back right away and were out during the time promised. The gentleman took a look at my chimney and proceeded to tell me all that was wrong with it ( it is pretty extensive ). This was the Friday before Memorial Day, and he said that he'd have a detailed estimate to me by the next Thursday, and that he'd call to discuss it as well. Well, here it is over 2 weeks later and I never heard back via email or phone from Hale's Chimney. For a project that the gentlemen suspected would be in the thousands, I expected a better response. Hale's saved my house from water damage and installed a new chimney cap after high winds destroyed the original one. I initially called another contractor to measure and install a new cap. Everything was going great until I noticed that they did not tarp the open hole in my roof when they measured it. Two days later my upstairs ceiling nearly collapsed due to the water damage. They were planning on leaving the hole in my roof for 3 weeks while they fabricated the cap. I called Hales and they came out the next morning to measure and temporarily cover the hole while they made the new cap. On the day of installation, two vans and 3 or 4 installers came out to do the job. The new cap looks great and they did a wonderful job. I highly recommend Hales.
