Not only is the food great, so is the customer service. This Monday, I ordered food to pickup. With my hands full, I inadvertently left my belt pack on the counter. I wasn't sure where I had left it. The nice woman at the counter, Phyllis, went over and beyond in getting it back to me. She called my local CVS and the pharmacist gave me a call about it. It contained needed medication and money but no other ID. Many thanks for going the extra step in returning it! The food was great too, especially the dried cherry chicken salad sandwich! read more

What a wonderful (and busy) place! It feels like no matter when I go in there is usually a line of some sort or they are out of bread and other goods. But I guess this is a good thing because the food is so good. This place is tucked away in a plaza but it packs a punch inside. Outdoor seating as well as a good amount of indoor booths and tables. Single stall bathrooms. Get your own drink station and a long ordering countering. Same set up like a Panera Bread, but oh so much better. Sandwiches, salads, whatever the food you order is fresh. The sides are amazing as well, in particular their pasta salad. Many different fresh bread choices to choose from. A very nice place for a quick lunch or even a good place to catch up with a friend. The only downside is they are not open on Sundays. I understand they need a break but I would definitely go in on Sunday if they were open! It is hard other days as their hours are limited to Breakfast/Lunch. Don't pass this place up and I always try to order something different! read more

This place is absolutely fantastic. I will say, I give their takeout 5 stars, eat-in 4 stars. Take-out orders are always correct (although they sometimes temporarily mis-place advance orders for future time takeout). Sandwiches are fresh, bread is fantastic, and combinations in their sandwiches taste excellent. Fries are great, even for take-out, which is rare. Lately it seems many post-covid restaurants provide pretty average, incorrect food/orders, but this place is always on-point. Parking is at a premium, the only thing that could be better is a pick-up window. read more

I was at an event that was catered the other night. It was a bunch of wraps that I could not stop eating. They all tasted so good and seemed really fresh. I asked the host where they were from, and they said Half Day Cafe. So today I decided to check this place out for lunch. It was even better! I got the turkey Ruben with potatoes and a side of bacon. My wife got the chicken Caesar wrap with potatoes and my mom got the veggie skillet. Everything was incredible! The Ruben was so good and every piece of bacon was cooked perfectly (which is rare). The environment was nice as well and the staff were very friendly! Overall, a great find. We are excited to go back with the kids. read more

I have been a frequent diner at Half Day Cafe for years and today I decided to sit down for lunch with a co-worker. We sat our things - coat, purses, etc down and got in line. She had never been here before so I was showing her how it worked, she was going to order for us, while I sat down. First problem, you have one person working a line of 10+ ppl deep and she has such a lovely little attitude. Second, all of a sudden I see another employee go by mine and my co-workers stuff and picks it all up - purse, coat, etc! I stop the man because first off you NEVER grab anyone's stuff esp a purse! and second, clearly I was going to sit there. He preceded to tell me that I was not allowed to take a seat until I have ordered and purchased my food. That this table could be used for another diner and I can find another once I've completed my check-out. Excuse me, no, it is not my fault this other diner did not save herself a seat in a restaurant that has limited seating. There are 7 people in front of us in line so do you really think there will be a seat for us once we get through that line when there are none available now?! I've never had an issue putting any of my belongings down and getting in line. I am beyond dumbfounded by the rudeness and lack of respect especially for touching someone else's property especially when they had no idea whose stuff that was! What if I was alone and in the bathroom and came back to nothing?! I will not be frequently this restaurant any time soon and you best believe I told my department (I work down the block) all about this and every employee, man and female were shocked and appalled that any employee would talk to a customer like this let alone physically touch our stuff. read more

I had the pleasure of having lunch here on a Friday afternoon. Service was attentive and friendly. It's a cute cafe. A lot of variety on the menu. They have an extensive vegetarian menu. I had the Club sandwich on rye bread (they make their bread fresh daily and sell it as well). I added American cheese to it - was a very good sandwich but seemed a bit dry. My daughter had the kids menu - chicken fingers and fries. Seems like a very small portion to me. She said they were ok tasting. Hubby had the grilled sandwich choice - which was a chicken Thai sandwich. He said it was very good. He also had the garden vegetable soup. He said that was good also. Good place for lunch, not out of this world good though, that's why 4 stars. read more

My mom and I came here for Breakfast this morning after moving all day yesterday. She heard about it before, and I've driven by it a few times, so we swung in to get a bite to eat. I wasn't sure what to expect, but my mom and I loved it! It's a fast casual place, where you place your order at the counter, and they walk it out to you. They have plenty of delicious options for breakfast and lunch, and we had a hard time choosing. After studying the menu, on the recommendation of the girl behind the counter, we went with the breakfast extravaganza, which was delicious! I substituted the pork with a cup of fruit, and it was enough for my mom and I to split. My mom enjoyed her breakfast as well, and the staff was really friendly. I really enjoyed it here, and would gladly come back for breakfast or lunch anytime. Prices are extremely reasonable, the food is awesome and fresh, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Coming in, the place appeared to have a clean upscale diner type of look. The cloud of fruit flies floating around the condiments took it down a notch though. Ordered the big breakfast, a chili and a half club sandwich. "Big" was not very accurate and the chili and half club sandwich looked like I ordered off the kids menu. 2 bites into my sandwich and there was barely anything left. The eggs and toast were good, everything else felt subpar. I've had better breakfast meals at any one of the hundreds of coney islands/rams horn type restaurants around here. The sandwich was bland and the chili was average but lukewarm. It was fairly pricey for the volume and quality of the food I received. Not a very good eating experience. The staff were all very helpful and friendly so +1 star. Unfortunately, friendliness does not satiate my hunger. read more

Half day cafe used to be my favorite breakfast place. Emphasis on used to. Each time I have come it gets consistently worse. I like to come here on Saturday mornings for the extra pastry's that come with an order. Each time the service has gotten worse and worse. It was by far the worst today however. I brought my long time friend with me. I typically get a western omelette and he got banana pancakes. One side thing to note is I used to love the cookies here and they must've changed the recipe because they're awful now. Never order them. Anyways. The server that took our order at the counter seemed uninterested and just acted weird towards us. I get my food and my friends is no where to be found. I wait ten minutes, he tells me to go ahead and eat. I want to wait, as not to be rude, another 5 minutes go by. I decide finally to eat. It takes me ten minutes to eat-it was decent, worst it's been in a while. We wait another five minutes, I'm done eating, and my friend decides it's time to get food. This wasn't the first time they've brought food out at different times, but it's normally five at most. He asks them about it and they simply say they must've lost it in the shuffle. They make it and we're out of there. No cop for it being so late or really any apology. I was so embarrassed. I had been raving to me friend about this place, and to be let down this much. Cmon. Sucks this place has gone down hill recently. They lost a long time customer today. read more

Roughly a 4.5. I got the Eggchilada omelette (had chili, peppadew peppers, jalapeno peppers, cheese, sausage, and maybe some other stuff in it) and a cup of gumbo [that's made a bowl for free on Saturdays] for a total of about $11. The food was mostly all great and served pretty quickly, but I felt like an idiot when I got my food. Half Day doesn't exactly make it obvious that you order your food at the counter, pay, get your drink and whatever, and then sit down. It's an unusual-ish system, but I know better for next time. The Eggchilada was pretty huge and filling for $7.25, and also came with toast and taters. The gumbo was fairly mediocre and had a "canned soup base" sort of flavor to it, but it was okay, and the price was right. Half Day Cafe is a good option for breakfast in the Rochester area -- the only letdowns are that it's only open until 3, and they're closed on Sundays, which is just strange to me (religious reasons, maybe?). 4.5 knocked down because we weren't offered the complimentary mini baked goods basket thing (presumably because they ran out), they didn't have rye bread (the marble was still good though), and the ordering situation was a bit unusual. Chris , the owner even sliced my fresh rye bread, which was wonderful. Very creative menu, fabulous home made soup (4 choices each day) Huge serving of home made bread pudding ( Chris uses the day old muffins) with raspberry sauce for only $1.99!!! Nummy The staff is very competent and friendly. The local art work on the walls is a very nice touch, too! Your sandwich is made to order.... So you can have it your way .... & oh, so FRESH! Half Day Cafe, please don't change. Eating my Waldorf salad for lunch today prompted a hypothetical job interview scenario into my head where I was asked if complacency could ever be considered good. Imagine a restaurant that was founded on serving high quality foods from the finest quality ingredients. The food was consistently good. Never was there a gristly piece of meat, a brown-spotted avocado, or stale piece of bread. The 5 star yelp reviews poured in. Years go by, and several food and service awards have been won. The owner gets comfortable. In a world that glorifies money and demands improvement, the owner decides to increase profits by serving lower quality meats and produce. He imagines that his restaurant already has the positive reputation that it needs, and will not suffer. However, regular customers start to take notice, and new ones are confused by the positive reviews online. Negative reviews start to overtake the good. People stop visiting. The owner tries to revert back to and advertise prior high quality ways, but consumer trust has already been broken. If only the owner would have recognized that complacency isn't always a bad thing. read more

Best place around for a good breakfast! This place is pretty unassuming from the exterior so it's easy to miss but it really does deliver in quality. For breakfast, I had their SF omelette which comes with bacon, spinach, feta, and avocado with some potatoes and toast as sides. Pretty decent amount of food for the price. The undisputed star of the establishment is their famous fresh squeezed orange juice which they keep chilled in to-go cups near the register. I've brought my family and friends here multiple times and they always gush over how amazingly refreshing their orange juice is. I also highly recommend their asiago bread as either a side to your meal and as a loaf to take home if available. Tables and bathrooms are always clean, service is always friendly and quick. I had banana walnut pancakes with a side of sausage and not pictured I had the California Thai Chicken grilled sandwich. Both meals were delicious and definitely will be getting again. The service was friendly and attentive. Half Day Cafe runs just like a Panera, you order and pay then they will serve it to you but then you have to clean up after yourself. This cafe has good food, service, and pricing.
