Great place! The beer they have on draft is excellent and the place has two patios and a great two-story inside for seating. I loved the cool decor and vibes of the place. While the brunch menu is pretty small, I loved the fish and chips and my husband loved his breakfast burrito. Our daughter had the kids Mac n cheese and it was great quality. The prices are a bit steep (there's a 4% add to all tabs, which is annoying), but overall we enjoyed it.
We were in town for a conference in November and we ended up coming here twice, which is something we rarely ever do when traveling. We came here for dinner on our first night in town and I had a nice beer flight while my wife had a tasty tequila cocktail. We both ended up getting different salads with grilled chicken and they were absolutely delicious. We came back the next night as there were many other things on the menu that we wanted to try. I got another beer flight and my wife had an old fashioned, all of which was great. I got the fish and chips and my wife got the chicken and mashed potatoes bowl, all of which was again delicious. Service was great and the prices were great as well. It's a really nice Irish pub and we highly recommend coming here!

What a beautiful restored house. I sat at the bar so I didn't get to venture around the whole space. I could look up and see a little bit of the rooms. I heard they decorate beautiful for the holidays. I saw they do bottomless on the weekends and it was hard to resist haha I loved the bottles in front of the bar. Service was great and everyone was friendly. Hoban House: Mouthful. Hoppy. Media Puerta: Mellow bite. Citrus smell.
This cozy pub is located in east village and is the perfect spot to get some good eats, house-brewed beer and specialty cocktails before game time. Steps from Petco Park. Half Door Brewing welcomes Irish family-style hospitality with great food, a nice airy patio, and friendly staff. Overall, pretty pleased. We will definitely be back!
This is a very cool spot right down the road from Petco Park. I love the vibes as it feels like you walked into somebody's old house. Not only do they have craft beer, but they have booze and wine as well. I didn't have any food but it looked great! Service was friendly, always had a full drink!
On a Tuesday, I visited this brewery with a friend and his son. Since there wasn't a Padres game, we were fortunate to find plenty of available tables. The place is packed during game day. The staff greeted us promptly and seated us on the second-floor patio, as we requested. We were told it's a mixture of brewery and an Irish pub. They have first floor and second floor seating area. Throughout our visit, the service was excellent, and our server checked in on us frequently. I enjoyed their Hoban House IPA--a refreshing choice. We also ordered a cheeseburger with fries for my friend's son, and the fries were both fresh and delicious. I'll definitely return, especially since it's conveniently close to my workplace.
My friends and I wanted to enjoy the amazing weather, so we were on the search of an outdoor rooftop bar around the Gaslamp District. Unfortunately there were none open around 4pm on a weekday, but one of my friends remembered that Half Door Brewing Company (HDBC) had a great upstairs, outdoor deck. We got to HDBC around 4:15pm and requested to sit outside on the 2nd floor. Can't beat the vibe and scenic views of downtown, including Petco Park. It was exactly what we were looking for. We made it in time for happy hour, and we certainly took advantage of the happy hour food and well cocktails. The food was good. We ordered the pretzel bites, truffle fries, and mac and cheese. The pretzel bites were the best of the 3, and they were quite unique. They were like pretzel biscuits with a soft, doughy crumb. The dipping cheese and mustard were excellent. Lastly, service was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive, and our food and drinks came out in a timely manner.
Awesome bar by the Padres stadium! After a long day at a conference, my colleagues and I made our way to get some drinks, appetizers, and bit of food. It's an old style house that's been refurbished with great bar seating indoor with classy architecture and quaint outdoor seating. We sat on their terrace top and had great vibes with sun, breeze, and the city view. Our server, Dominic, was awesome with lots of energy and attention to our dining experience. We started off with pretzel bites, and they were salted to perfection. My colleagues just got drinks but I was starving for some solid food. I ordered a medium rare goat cheese burger, and I was so happy with the portion size. Great flavors of goat cheese, delicious meat, onion jam, and garlic aioli. So massive that I had to cut the burger in half. Very filling and I would definitely order again. Loved the experience of this place, and I definitely recommend that you too as well!
We stopped by Half Door while brewery hopping. I really enjoyed Half Door Brewing. The decor is awesome. Such a cool spot and unique layout. Our server was very attentive. We each ordered a beer and the pretzel bites to share. The pretzel bites you could tell are definitely made in house. They were different than a standard pretzel bite but very good. The whole food menu looks great. I would definitely return if I'm ever in the area again!
What an absolute gem!! Was in town for a conference and Half Door was highly recommended by a friend who visits San Diego often. The beer was fantastic. My favorite was the sour, it completely blew my mind and my palate! We decided to let the waiter choose our flights for us and it was such a fun and surprising choice. He hit the nail on the head! It's a cute little spot, it was a Sunday night so it was not crowded at all. We had a charcuterie board, I had some soup of the day which was a veggie soup and it was delicious. Everything felt like comfort; the food, the beer, the environment. It is a permanent stop for me now!
On our way back to the airport SAN, we had some time to kill decided to checkout the area around Petco park. Came across Half Door. Thought they may be closed looked empty. But it was cold and everyone was sitting at the bar. What a great place. The scenery towards to park was amazing. I'm only assuming this place gets packed during a game or an event. Food and beer were great for a brewery. Awesome bartender great convo.

Pretty chill place even during a Comic-Con Saturday night. Cozy outdoor seating with its countryside house front patio layout. My sister and I just shared some appetizers as dinner and our favorite one that we tried was the scotch egg. Lightly crispy on the outside and the Irish sausage surrounding the hard-boiled egg was tasty and not overly salty nor greasy. We also ordered the salted pretzel bites since it seemed like they were popular based on the many pics of them uploaded here. They were alright; I expected dense chewy soft pretzel goodness but they were pretty much kinda-stale mini dinner rolls with a slight crispy exterior. I think people really like them though because they do have the pretzel salt on top. Nothing amazing about the BBQ chicken flatbread especially with the BBQ sauce tasting like a cheap grocery store one. I tried the Hoban House IPA. I'm no beer connoisseur and can't really fully describe the taste well, but if you like grapefruit you'll enjoy this one because its flavor is really prominent lol. Place seemed understaffed because although our server was super friendly, she came to the table only a few times and it took her a while to get the check for us after we requested it. Overall not a bad spot if you want to avoid wild Gaslamp on a Saturday night but still want decent food/beer. read more
QUICKIE REVIEW Great spot to swing by before the game. FOOD This is what I tried: Bangers N Mash Scotch Egg Irish Beer First introduction to bangers & mash and it was a good one. It was seasoned well and flavor. Scotch egg was a bit more of an interesting taste but the sauce that came with it made it for me. PARKING No, street parking. SERVICE Good. Waitress took care of us in a timely manner and nice. PRICE Less than $50 for two. Came during game day so took advantage of the specials they had. TIP/OTHER THOUGHTS They had regular table seating but also had sofa seating, which is where I ate. It made for a cool, different experience. read more

My boyfriend and I went on a Thursday afternoon. Tyler was the bartender and he was so nice. You know how bartenders sometimes talk too much and you wish they stopped talking... Tyler was so opposite, I think he wished we stopped bothering him haha. The drinks were amazing, he was so nice to chat with while we both had drinks, we got to try very interesting beers and whiskeys and their housemade seltzer was pretty good! We usually go to little food hall for drinks and glad to say we have a new bar to come visit when we go To San Diego now. read more

I really like coming to Half Door Brewing! It has a homey feel with a large patio and great upper floor as well. They serve up decent cocktails and tasty comfort food. Note: no happy hour specials on Padres game days given their proximity to the park. They have plenty of TVs inside as well to enjoy the game there. My favorite drink is the Tres Commas which has the smokiness from the mezcal balanced nicely with some sweetness. The shepherds pie was also so hearty, rich, and comforting. Restaurant 9/10 Honestly just wow, I haven't even gotten the rest of my food when starting this review but posting when I'm done here... absolutely amazing place. I would give 6 stars if I can. The food is so Homey and the vibes are very comforting. The service is super friendly and kind. I've been to many pubs and bars and restaurants and this has to be one of the better ones I've been to. -------------------------------- If I could, I'd be in a loop of truffle fry eating Fluffy bread in the sandwich. Great brewery in a prime location (esp for sports-lovers). Good for groups and people visiting SD! The baseball stadium is walking distance and right in your view if you're sitting outside. I came here for a happy hour/dinner after work with about 10 coworkers. It was a Thursday so it wasn't busy at all, even while there was a game on. We were able to hear the stadium cheering - that's how close we were, and they also had the game playing on TV so we were able to watch. The beer is crisp, tasty, and refreshing. I'm more a cocktail person though and my waitor was able to recommend a cocktail that was no longer on the menu but is now sort of a secret menu item. It was delicious! Our waitor was very attentive, great for our large group. The food is more upscale than your typical bar food. I had the pork belly and it was so good! Highly recommend that. read more

Good beer selection and solid food to pair it with. The cocktails were actually well crafted too, I'd definitely order the Bedroom Talk again! Food was tasty, though maybe a tad greasy but what do you expect from a brewery... the breakfast burger was very hearty, and we also enjoyed the white truffle flatbread and sausage bites. Very cool space, we were easily seated for 9 people on (just another) beautiful day in sunny San Diego. I got a flight of all the IPAs; there were a few winners in the group (Swing Forward and Hoban House - and I like hazy, juicy IPAs). Amongst the table, we shared some fried goat cheese appetizers that were very good, as well as several salads, burgers, which were all good and somewhat unique (pears and strawberries in salad!) The overall things this place has going for it is plenty of space, a variety of seating options, and a decent beer menu. The food is a little different than typical bar food, but not by much. Additionally, my flight was spilled quite a bit when brought over to the table, so there went all my napkins. I understand that it happens, but the lack of acknowledgement/realization by the staff is off-putting. read more

We were excited to go to this local spot based on the numerous good reviews. It is not part of the Gas Lamp district but not far from it and parking can be found around the area. The building looks to be an older two story home converted to this cute place with wraparound porches on the bottom and top. We sat on the top section and were overlooking PetCo Park a few blocks away. Since we were full we opted for just a quick beer before walking around more in the area. My choice was a stout of course and it was a nice "hit the spot" drink for the ending of a day. The staff were all friendly and the drinks were too us promptly. My rating is between a 3 and a 4 only because of inconsistent execution and the price for brunch. I've lived in the neighborhood for over 5 years and really like to come here, they have a great menu focused on British cuisine. The stars of the menu: Salmon (meal or salad), sausage roll bites, fish and chips, Mac and Cheese and their vege stir fry. I really like the variety of their menu, there is something for everyone and diversity for your mood or appetite. If you love pasties from London, then you must get the sausage bites! It's by far my favorite item. My second favorite dish is the salmon salad- salmon is cooked well, not dry with excellent flavor. All of their salads are great btw. Service is pretty good, sometimes you have to look for your server here though. But everyone is friendly and helpful. The decor is unique and interesting. It's an old house converted to a restaurant with cool outdoor seating on both the first and second floors. Inside you have a vintage style decor with cool wallpaper and a two story open bar that is something to see. If they are busy, the food is executed well, if they are slow not so much (you think the opposite would be true). I've had a few meals that just weren't up to par. Brunch- well, I just don't think breakfast for two people should cost $60, plain and simple. You just don't get value for the money. It's also a small brunch menu, not a lot of choices. However, this a place worth coming to- cool ambiance and steps away from Petco park, or a reasonable walk to the Rady shell. A nice option outside of the gaslamp. If you come, you must try the sausage bites! They are so good. read more

After we settle down in our hotel room my wife and I wanna explore the surrounding areas of the Gaslamp quarters first ask guest services what restaurants they recommend they tell couple restaurants nearby but they say the Half Door Brewing Company is just across the street from the hotel. Sound good my wife and I headed to the Half Door Brewing Company to have dinner. The restaurant is very nice it like a house but see people enjoying themselves we walk in greet it by the host then we follow her us stirs the second floor of the restaurant. We were surprised the great view including the great view of Petco Ballpark. We sat in our table and scanned the bar code with our phones to get the menu. See we look at the drink menu and order our drinks. My wife order the Mai Tai and I order their house beer. We look what to order my wife decided to get the fish and chips and I order the vegetable stir fry. We waited for our meal we look what a beautiful night and see Petco Ballpark in our view. The waitess brought us our meal it looks so good. My wife fish and chips looks so good and took a bite and say it really good. Then I took a bit of my vegetable stir fry was really good great flavors and cook fresh I really enjoy it. For dessert we have the white chocolate bread pudding it really good it wasn't sweet and balance out nice sauce. read more
It all started with a Lunch on a Monday... Beers started with #Buzzwords Super Dank Pale Ale. Description of which maybe should've intimidated me, but I had had a long day of travel and needed to ease myself into the 2-hr time change. An 8.4% hazy double is just about right! Heavy but not at all hard to drink for an IPA lover. Hazy and smooth. Next was the Swole City Hazy IPA, which was a lot hoppier and now quite as fruity as I was hoping. Those fruit descriptions always throw me off. Good beers though and the best thing was perhaps my meal, which I opted for Vegetable stir fry... Coconut ginger rice, green beans, napa cabbage, carrots, scallions roasted red peppers, broccoli, macadamia nuts, sweet chili soy glaze. Plenty to chew on and flavors a plenty. Satisfied in all the ways! So much so that I ended up here twice more during my stay. Ones for a late night drinks and another for takeout crowler. read more

Great brewery. Their variety of beer was impressive and they were still all pretty good. I got a flight and honestly enjoyed all the beers. Quaint little place with cozy outdoor seating, not a ton of space but it wasn't a problem. They had some outdoor heaters on the patio, too. No issues with service and the food was actually really good. I got a fancy version of the classic KFC bowl and it was to die for. Also tried the pretzel bites - HIGHLY recommend those. No complaints, would def go again for brunch! read more

A very unique and historic place that steps you back in time to the 1870's. A large old bar with plenty of local craft brews as well as their own, which I had a double IPA and it was delicious and strong! This old house used to be a brothel and has been lovingly restored to its grandeur of the 1870's. They also have a kitchen and serve food, but we were just there to check it out and have a couple drinks. A very unique place and well worth the visit! A++++ read more

This is one of the coolest venues for a brewery that I have ever been to. Amazing Victorian house in downtown San Diego, walking distance to Petco Park. Several of their beers on tap plus cocktails and other options. The venue is amazing with an upstairs and downstairs, including multiple decks and nooks and crannies, plus nice Christmas decorations with a Christmas tree, lights, and everything in between. If you are looking for a drink downtown, I couldn't recommend this place enough! read more

Not great. The place smells sticky. Not a huge selection so I built a flight of 4 out of like the 8 beers they did have and one of them they said the keg blew .. at 4pm they just opened ... hmm ok ... so against my better judgment I order the pretzel bites I got baked bread with salt in it ... will not be coming back. read more

Welcoming, friendly, comfort place to enjoy a afternoon alone or with friends. Sure it gets wicked busy before games and weekends. But, mid afternoon on a Monday was quiet. Great patio. Old fashion. My fiance is a beer fanatic and said that we had to try this place. I am not, so I personally cannot speak to the beer. On the other hand, my fiance said they were amazing. The Barley Wine was his favorite. It was strong, smooth, and had a good flavor. I had a Tiajuana Sour. It was well balanced, where you tasted the alcohol, but was not overpowered by it, and it was refreshing after a hot day. Service was also good. The servers were attentive, kind, and pulling balancing acts getting food and drink up and down all those stairs. It we were only judging on alcohol and service, this would be 5 stars easily. We do have to bring food into play though. I will say, the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth the price. For an appetizer we ordered the scotch egg. It was fried well in terms of crispness, but very dry and very underseasoned. For an entree I ordered bangers and mash. If you are paying over $20 for bangers and mash, they must be exceptional. Sadly they weren't. The mash was underseasoned. The bangers were grainy and had to snap to the casing. We will definitely come back here for the beer and drinks, especially after a ballgame and we only want to drink. read more

Came here before Chelsea H show and had some good bites and drinks!! We had I believe it was a creamy vegetable soup, we dipped our pretzel bites in it and that was great! Food was great, my friend wasnt super into her mezcal drink but i had smoke n mirrors and loved it! Coconut cream on top was so good i used my finger to wipe off sides of glass lol The place is super cute, lots of places to sit. Even cozy love seats. I approve! Great happy hour spot! I had an old fashion for 8 bucks. You cant beat that. Well drinks are 6.00 bucks. Really good goat cheese balls and awesome fries. The pretzel bites weren't as good as I hoped but they weren't bad. We had amazing service. Everyone was really nice. We will be back for sure! read more

Amazing service. Multiple staff popped by ti say hello or check on us. The location is cool right in view of the Padres stadium and they have HH on non-home game days. The drink menu is broad with both beers, wines, & a few cocktails. The food sadly didn't hit the spot. The truffle fries had pre-shredded parmesan that as a result didn't melt properly and consequently seemed old; use freshly grated yall! And scallions don't compliment truffle at all. The pretzel bites were made of either old or very poorly made dough, they tasted odd and or old. The cheese dip couldn't save them. Well my wine was good and the patio was what my pup needed while we grabbed a cold one. Cheers! read more

Loved our first experience at Half Door Brewing! We called and made a reservation for 6 people and wanted to be seated in front of a tv. We were seated in front of a tv as promised. We sat outside in their upper balcony and loved it. The balcony feels like you are hanging out at a beachside cottage. The brewery is really cute! We lucked out by being there at happy hour and we took full advantage of it. Their happy hour is from 4-6pm Monday-Friday. The food on the happy hour menu is fantastic! We ordered almost everything on the happy hour menu and every single item was delicious. We had the pretzel bites, truffle fries, Mac n cheese, flatbread, and fried goat cheese. All of the food came hot and fresh. We also tried a lot of their beers. Our favorite was the Buzzwords IPA. Our server, Evan, was awesome. Do they take reservations?
Not that I'm aware of. We've never had a problem walking up and getting a table or seats at the bar. Though on game days (Padres) it can get pretty packed, do plan to go early. :)
Do you serve bottomless on the weekdays?
Hi Michelle, Yes we do have Bottomless Mimosas on Saturdays and Sundays from 10a-3p
Do they fill growlers?
Yes! Prices for a fill range from $18-22. We also have 32oz crowlers and a few of our beers come in 16oz 4 packs. Cheers!

Are kids allowed here?
Yes! We have families in here all the time for lunch and dinner. The kitchen closes at 10 so that would also be our cut off for under 21 as well. Hope this helps! Cheers

Yes. They have high chairs, and they have a kids menu. You also get a nice view of Petco, if you sit upstairs.

Very dog friendly!! You can sit with your well behaved pooch anywhere upstairs or downstairs on the porch. So fun!
