I had the chicken sandwich, which was good, but I wanted more flavor out of it. Some of the appetizers were very small (steak tar tar and chorizo croquette) and should have been two pieces for the money. The beer I had was awesome, it was a wit or Weiss beer I believe, and the service was great. When we walked in, we were not greeted as we should have been. The girls at the desk were busy talking to each other. I had asked for a waterfront table, but those , one of them , said haughtily, are never reserved. They walked us over to a table overlooking their patio, closed for the winter, and which seemed as if we were sitting by a parking lot, albeit within view of the water if we turned our heads a certain way. We had two servers, which was strange, and they were as disinterested in us as the reception desk girls were. It was restaurant week. The dishes we ordered were just okay... my flounder Milanese was similar to a breaded piece out of a freezer... not great! The ice cream on the dessert was extra for a scoop of icy chocolate ice cream... the flan was too too eggy, and the top wasn't crisp at all. Hadn't been here in 3 years and decided to give it another go for my birthday. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We had made a reservation ahead of time, so we were quickly escorted to our table. I ran back out to my car to get a forgotten item and in those few minutes, the waitress came over, introduced herself and said she'd be back to take drink orders when "the rest of the party arrives." Another waitress came over to introduce herself and said she'd be helping out the first waitress. It took 15 minutes (I timed it) upon sitting back down before the first waitress came back to ask us about drinks and another 20 minutes to receive said drinks (nothing fancy- 2 seltzers). We were seated close to the window so we had the nice view of sundown as it approached. Before our drinks arrived, the waitress came back to the table to take our order. We had to request bread as stated in the menu. We had to ask another 3 times for the bread as it took almost 45 minutes to come out. Seems pretty lengthy. Our entrees finally arrived. I ordered the BBQ ribs special. Great taste & flavor. My dad ordered the filet mignon and he needed a chisel to cut through it. Way too tough. That came with a side of mashed potatoes which were bland. No little pieces of skin or onions to enhance the taste. For $54, that steak should melt in your mouth. My mom ordered the $40 lobster roll. She enjoyed, but it was nothing special. My sister ordered the $54 seabass which was no bigger than my palm. We shared a side of broccoli & French fries, which were great. We decided to order 2 desserts. The cheesecake & chocolate mousse. Again, this took way too long (about 20 minutes). They were informed it was my birthday so they made the piece of cake fancy. The chocolate mousse tasted medicinal. I thought maybe it had espresso or liquor in it, but the waitress checked with the chef and said no. I took one bite and that was it. I also should have clarified but it was not the cheesecake I was expecting. I only like NY style cheesecake and this was far from it. This had the texture of cream cheese. Not for me. We ended up being there a little over 2 hours and not once did someone come over to refill our water cups. Usually at restaurants we have the opposite problem. They also darkened the restaurant a few times in this duration. Almost doesn't make sense as it was getting darker outside. For these prices, not sure if I'll be back. read more

I am calling out getting ripped off. We've had it with Half Moon. My wife and I went here for a cocktail and "pintxos". Pintxos are like Spanish tapas but generally small and for one person. You order a bunch. We love pintxos and were excited to try them. Wow - what a rip off and disappointment. I order two "pan con tomate", which is supposed to be bread with a lightly salted fresh tomato puree, olive oil and garlic spread. What I got was a tiny piece of bread with crushed tomatoes STRAIGHT OUT OF A CAN plotted on top. It was disgusting! I had also order Iberico ham with melon. Iberico ham is the best of the best, and very distinct. I call total BS! What I got was tasteless under ripe melon (hard and crunchy), with a TINY shrivel of cheap fatty prosciutto (at best). The cocktail? We ordered a "cool" cucumber gin and tonic which looked like it had food die it was so green, and it tasted like a kale and lemon energy shot (that's not a compliment). All this for a mere $60. Never again. read more

The setting was incredible - We could see the NYC skyline from our outdoor table. The cocktails were delicious. My mom and I both got the mediterranean salad with salmon. Highly recommend! TLDR: If you get any thing other than a drink here, you'll be disappointed. Even then... Latest experience: Showed up for our 5:30 reservation at the same time as about 6 or 7 other families after a graduation. Had a large party, so we put in our orders for drinks and everyone's entree within 20 minutes of sitting down. Had some little kids in our party so we were hoping to get the food out early. We did have some members of our family running late, but we said we can put everything in. Actually recieved our entrees about 2 hours later (~7:30). In the meantime, it took about 30-45 minutes to get drinks, since of course they were spilled on our graduate's white dress. And there were very few check ins and waters refilled. Maybe about once an hour. The place was about 3/4 full. Not slammed. Not packed. There were empty tables. A manager did come by to make light of the spill by saying there was no broken glass. But she didn't seem to notice that we were sitting there without food for 2 hours. After about 90 minutes of waiting, we tracked down our waiter to see where our food was and he said there was a "miscommunication with the kitchen" and our food would be out soon. I've been a waiter at a few restaurants, so that's code for "oh sh*t, I didn't submit the order". This happens. A lot. It definitely happened to me. But it usually doesn't take 90 minutes to realize. The waiter was happy to leave it at that - like it was totally fine that every other table around us in his area was already done and leaving - and we were just sitting there. So we tracked him down again and asked for a manager. A different manager acknowledged the really bad experience (spilled drinks, no food, zero service) and ended up taking off a kids entree, a side and our drinks. And he removed the mandatory gratuity because we had a large party (though we ended up giving the waiter something so we saved 2%). We didn't expect much, and we didn't get much so once again we were reminded why we don't come here. Look, it's a beautiful view, but if it didn't have the view there's no way this place would survive. The food is not good. I've never had anything here that wasn't a let down. And it's not cheap. So get a drink, look out at the river, and go literally anywhere else to eat. Previous review: Fantastic location! Everything else is mediocre at best. We've been here more than a dozen times for birthdays, brunch, dinners, etc. Have had some really poor food experiences (sandy po boy sandwich). Half Moon is a bit of a drive from where I am located, but it was absolutely worth the drive. This restaurant is located on the Hudson River waterfront, which makes for such a scenic dinner. We had a large party, but we made a reservation ahead of time. We ordered Crispy Calamari, West Coast Oysters, and East Coast Oysters to start. The appetizers also included bread. For dinner, I ordered the Pan Roasted Scallops. The dish came with honey nut squash purée, sprouting cauliflower, grapes, brown butter. The flavors blended beautifully and I already know I'll be ordering this again when I return. This restaurant is pricy, so that would be the only setback. Fancy brunch you say? Then you come to the right place. Gorgeous setting on the water with indoor and outdoor seating. A warm fire place alongside the bar with plenty of seating and views. Great for parties, brunches, date night, you name it. Bloody Mary was delicious as well as most drinks. Service is always professional, friendly and fast. Today we had the pleasure of having a selection of oysters which were fresh and delicious. The shrimp cocktail was a bit tough was still very good. The shrimp tacos were really good with a side of pickled jalapeños. The lobster Mac and Cheese was creamy and seasoned perfectly. Highly recommend for a special night or just a fancy meal. I recently visited Half Moon during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week with my husband. It was a quiet Thursday night dinner which we enjoyed. It provided us a with an intimate atmosphere, that allowed our conversations to carry on easily. I had the calamari for an appetizer and panche seared salmon for an entree. Something was a bit off about the texture of the calamari, but I could quite pinpoint it, although the flavor was very nice. I enjoyed the Salmon very much. My husband had the wings for an appetizer, which he raved about. And the Chicken Milanese for an entrée. This is where Half Moon's service really excelled. My husband didn't read that it came worth olives, which he hates. When he reported this to our server, they immediately remade the arugula salad portion of the dish without the olives. It was greatly appreciated. We were willing to pay for another entree altogether, but our server came in and solved the issue quickly and effectively. All in all, the food was slightly above standard in my opinion, but the service was exceptional. We will definitely return when it's not restaurant week and try some other food options on the menu. read more

I went to this restaurant with my ex-wife and adult daughter on Thanksgiving in 2023. I'm a whole-foods vegan who's intolerant of gluten, and there was hardly anything I could eat. Service was alright, but after a mundane salad and a mediocre squash soup, the only entree they could provide was white rice pasta that tasted like masking tape, with some tomatoes and vegetables. It was absolutely awful. And all the desserts have unhealthful sugar, which I don't eat. I had to make my own dinner when I got home! My ex and I split the bill. I wound up paying $200 for the worst meal I'd ever bought in all my 74 years! If you're a vegan into health, avoid this awful , overpriced restaurant at all costs! read more

I used to love Half Moon. Living in the city, it is hard to get out there all the time, but I would try to go at least 3-4 times a month. My partner would come even more frequently than me, and all because their happy hour was so good! Changing their happy hour time is very disappointing. I went all the way to Half Moon recently, and I left without eating when I found out there was no longer a Happy Hour any time on the weekends. All I can say about this place is awesome!! Awesome fresh food, awesome drinks and awesome ambience. My spicy jalapeño Margarita was on point. A nice smooth blend with just the right amount of Tequila. The fresh lobster was juicy and cooked to perfection. The dessert we ordered looked too good to eat but we ate it. The wait staff was great and very knowledgable about the entire menu. Lastly the Half Moon has a beautiful view of the water regardless of where you are seated. I am so disappointed in having to write this review. My family and I went to Halfmoon for Easter Sunday. There were eight of us, including a five-year-old. When we got there, we sat at a table in a small upstairs section of the restaurant that was in the back, RIGHT NEXT to the kitchen. We requested a table on the main floor that was within eye view, but we were told it was for a giant party; mind you, it was a table for eight, and we were a table of eight. The family sitting there was the demographic that must've solely been for that floor. Because we were at the restaurant before them and sat in a small, dark, extremely loud corner. Every time a waiter passed, they hit my bag, and I felt the need to apologize. Our friendly waiter was also incompetent. While my mother was knee-deep into her order, he pivoted back to me to ask me about what I wanted as my protein on the eggs Benedict (which I got the short rib, and it was not that good and highly bland, there was no salt added, and I wish I got something else on the menu.) I also want to highlight that it took forever for our drinks. When the food came out, my niece ordered the children's Mac and Cheese. They put it in a cast iron skillet, and when my niece reached to grab her glass of Apple Juice, she burned her wrest on the iron pan. That ended up with her not wanting to eat that, so we asked our waiter if we could change it for the children's waffle. My niece waited for her food, only to be plated with chicken and waffles with jalapeño infused syrup. Her parents were furious. First, because she got burned, and now a complete adult meal was given to a child. We asked for them to take out her meal. And they offered her ice cream. The desserts came out, and my niece's ice cream hadn't been sent out. Of all the people at that table, the child should be the one to receive, eat, and have the proper meal prepared. The service we received on our celebration of Easter was far from perfect. It was not what the meal cost should have been, and it was far from the experience I anticipated. Oct.13 Monday evening , went to Half Moon, was soo disappointed in quality and quantity. Not returning unless you change. I do not recommend. No bread or olives were served at start just lots of water. Mediterranean salad on menu said included romaine lettuce we got large empty bowl with 3 scoops of white cabbage and tiny mix of other ingredients. Prices were out of the roof for quantity and chef's choice of menu was not good. You need to get a good Chef that understands quality and quantity. If your cost saving! Your flounder milanese was a deep fried fish , which could of been lightly fried not deep fried like you get in a backroom kitchen. Your management was not observing his dining patrons. Not sure what he does to maintain this position. You need Managment dressed in proper clothes not jeans and sloppy clothes and shuffling around. We have lived in the area for long time and were so dissappointed last night. You are suppose to be a classy restaurant where is your dining dress code. The views and staff are just great. The place is very nice. It's a got a modern rustic feel to it. It boasts a back bar and lots of outdoor seating. The indoor dining area is quite large as well. Being directly on the Hudson River and soaking up the sun is a definite perk. I did get a bit of color while out there. The sunsets are mesmerizing. The wine list is great and the cocktails were also good. The services was excellent. The views as I said before, are worth a visit. However, the food fell flat for me. We had bites - no entrees. Nothing to write home about. I'm actually skeptical about the food with that being said. It was over priced for what we had. The tapas board was meager. The fried clams in the salad were hard and bland. I'd return for sunset happy hour but I am apprehensive on dinner. I came here today as they have a great outside space and restrictions have been lifted. I gave very positive reviews in the past although today would up being disappointing. 2+ hour drive from Brooklyn no fault of the restaurant just traffic. The host staff was welcoming, was seated quickly even though I was initially told it would be 45 minutes. Had to sit inside as there was some rain earlier so the outside was not open at that time. I found that the prices of the appetizers and the side dishes were kind of high. 3 very small shrimp tacos which were good were $23. See my attached photos. One single crab cake $25. I did not take a photo of the spinach although for $10 you had about 4 bites. I was also disappointed with the Branzino as I was not told it would be served while with head, tail and bones. Most restaurants would offer to filet it for you. Really nice waitress named Brianna who was friendly, bubbly, very accommodating and under normal circumstances would have been the perfect waitress. Unfortunately about 20 feet from where I was sitting the restaurant was setting up for a about 20 people for a high school graduate. They arrived about 1 hour after I sat down. Brianna was handling 2 tables close by so that's was not an issue. When I was about 1/2 way through dinner the party of about 20 arrived and that's when things fell apart. Brianna wanted to help although she got caught up with the party. It really turned me off that management who had plenty of staff would not just assign a dedicated staff to the group. They could have had others fill in until she was finished with the 2 tables she started with. I felt bad for her as she was caught in the middle and i could tell by her expression she felt bad. Even though one of the hostesses came by to ask if I wanted coffee or desert by that time I just wanted to leave. I probably should have said something although for a restaurant that has a pretty good reputation, has a lot of high end customers and charges too price should not have to be coached. I've come here several times in the past few years and spent a good amount of money. It was a real turn off to spend $250 and be let down. After more than 4 hours of driving round trip from Brooklyn I don't think I will come back or recommend them. Went there with my wife for a late lunch. The place was not busy so we were seated promptly. After that, all went downhill. I ordered a burger with cheese medium rare and a draught beer. My wife ordered a fish sandwich. 45 minutes later our food finally came out, but I had still not gotten my beer. Asked the server to find our wait person. Told her I had not gotten my beer. Her response was: "really, you never got your beer?" Did she think I was lying. No apology. The burger was mealy. Have had much better elsewhere, and there was no cheese to be found. Half Moon is an upscale restaurant located right on the Hudson River in Dobbs Ferry with NYC views. They have two great outside seating areas and floor to ceiling windows. All staff are welcoming and attentive. I recommend going for apps and drinks or brunch (Sat & Sun from 11am-3PM). Their prices are very high. The food overall is not "out of this world", but it is still good. I recommend the thai crispy calamari, crab cakes, eggs Benedict, and chicken and waffle off of the brunch menu. Half Moon has very good sangria, and it is available in pitchers. I recommend the fried clam roll, shrimp tacos, thai crispy calamari (on the brunch menu too), and baked clams off of the regular menu. read more

I love a good view and Half Moon will always have that. But the service was completely off this past Saturday night. First, we waited 15 minutes at the table before anyone even noticed us: no water, no bread, no drink order. When our waiter did make an appearance we ordered drinks and dinner and requested that we have time to enjoy our drinks before dinner was served. So of course our drinks were thrown at us only a minute or two before our appetizers came out, and then the bread basket after that. The food was ok. The Caesar salad was good as was the flounder sandwich. Both the house salad and the lobster roll were overly lemony. The ahi tuna was about the same as can be had at any upscale grocery store. I have in the past advocated for Half Moon to skeptical friends, but they lost my loyalty this time. It really is a shame. read more

We had been here a few times for celebratory date nights and birthday dinners, it was always a good time! In March, I hosted a bridal shower and it was above and beyond! The food was delicious, we opted for plated family style so everyone could try the tasty options. Stephanie made coordinating a breeze and Jack the server made sure everyone was attended to. Glasses never went empty and bellies remained full! We had so much fun, we felt so special. The Loft space gave us a private, VIP feel. If anything, I can't recommend doing the unlimited "bubbles" bar enough. The whole experience was something we still talk about nearly 3 months later. This place is a gem, the inside ambiance is awesome and trendy, the food is good considering we did not have much of a variety of dishes. They were very accommodating since we initially thought we would endure the sun to see the sunset. Love the fact our server was always around for anything and even if you ask another person for help they did not ignored me and relayed the information to our server.
