The service was good by the bartenders in the area we were sitting in. So we ordered a dozen of the Charred oysters, which were pretty good and two ribeye steaks, medium rare that came with a side Caesar salad and some Cajun mashed potatoes that were pretty much flavorless and dry like they were old and have been sitting out for a while . The steak had a decent taste, but was tough. Not just a little tough. I'm talking about two adults looking at each other that had not even remarked about the quality and both started shaking our heads at the same time. I live in a rural area and I travel two plus hours to stay at the casino and was looking so forward to eating at the half shell. The steaks were $39 apiece and were beyond disappointing. I wanted to be happy and feel like I didn't just piss my money away. But sadly we did and I will never step foot in another one again.. It was a Monday evening. The place was not busy at all and there's no excuse to serve steak as sorry is that one was. Next time I'll go to steakhouse that's not in any kind of a casino. I could've just took my $150 for the two dinners and just thrown it out the window. That's how satisfied I was.. This is the first in a a very long time I felt compelled to leave a review because I was pissed and still I am.. I wasn't there to make a scene or call the manager or demand my money back because once it gets to that point? I'm done and I'm done forever.. I'm sure they make some good dishes with steak is not one of them. Do yourself a favor. Had the "Royal Redfish"... sounded good in concept, but the kitchen staff apparently lacks the skills (or motivation) to prepare it. Fish was dry and overcooked, potato mash had peels and mold chunks in it, sauce was separated, and I couldn't taste anything except salt! Building had good atmosphere there was a good amount of people there so that's always a good sign. We sat upstairs and I enjoyed that it was a little quieter. Our server was quick with her service but was all around very monotone and we did feel a little rushed to get the table flipped by her but all and all she was alright. We started the night with their famous award winning charbroiled New Orleans oysters which were packed with flavor, very very good. Next we shared a bowl of gumbo which in my opinion was just lacking in flavor a little, it was a decent portion size for the price but wasn't loaded with sausage and seafood, I would probably skip over this dish. House salad was an amazing refresher while we waited for our entrees. For our last course we had the seafood pot pie and the redfish New Orleans. Personally I loved the idea of the seafood pot pie. I thought the pastry on top was the perfect amount of buttery and flakiness and the dish itself was loaded with seafood. However I did feel like it was missing something with the flavor profile. As for the red fish New Orleans, this one really stole the show for me. It was a very large piece of red fish topped with a load of mini shrimp and lump crab meat all cooked and smothered in their yummy Cajun butter. This dish was tasty and filling. It's a 4.5 to me so 5 stars it is. The hostess didn't seem like she enjoyed her job very much, but our server was a delight. The oysters were amazing! Get the oyster sampler. It was nice to try the different varieties, especially a side by side comparison: charbroiled, Bienville, Rockfeller, Orleans. There were x3 of each type so it was good for sharing and experimenting. The seafood pot pie was interesting looking. Instead of the crust being baked as a part of the dish, it was a rectangular sheet laid on top. Though the portion size was small, it did pack some nice flavors. The jalepeno hush puppies were a tad dry imo. They were also little poppers with nothing really special. The smokey bacon shrimp and grits was pretty creamy and super flavorful. The bacon bits added extra textures and flavors. It was a tad too salty imo, but the creaminess of everything made it taste better for some reason. The sweet potato creme brulee (an extra $1 w/ an entree) was definitely recommended and immediately sold. The honey butter on top made it extra decadent. Not to mention the brown sugar (?) or some type of granular sprinkle added nice flavors and textures to the sweet potato. Though I was expecting more of a glaze on top, the extra frills here were enough richness. Overall service was great, the food was good (though portions were smaller), and pricing was just okay. This is the third time we've been to Half Shell. The first two were at the one at the Hard Rock Casino. Both times we went for dinner. The food was excellent and the service was great. Both times we started off with soup. Since I am a gumboholic I had the seafood gumbo. It was excellent. My husband had the crawfish crab and corn bisque. He said it was excellent as well. For our main meal we split the seafood pasta. There was a lot of seafood and the creole Alfredo sauce was delicious. The second time we both had the gumbo. We split the redfish orleans. It was delicious. The restaurant was very nice. Plenty of room and the tables were spaced. The third time we went lunch. The restaurant at the Hard Rock is not open for lunch so we went to the one on Lameuse Street. Naturally we both had the gumbo. It was delicious as always. Since the lunch portions are smaller we had the blackened redfish and the Smokey bacon shrimp and grits. It was very flavorful. The restaurant has seating on the first floor and second floor. We chose the first floor since the second floor required going up stairs. The only difference between the two is the second floor was larger. Both floors had bars. The service was excellent. Started off with the Southern Pecan old Fashioned with an appetizer of the charbroiled oysters, and what a jaw-dropping intro. The pecan old fashioned -- with pecan liquor and brown sugar simple syrup -- might be the best old fashioned I've ever had, and that's saying something. Honestly, couldn't resist myself and ordered two, and now I'm adding that recipe to my cocktail recipe list. Charbroiled oysters were delicious, albeit a bit small. Girls Trip continues and we were visiting the Hard Rock casino for a little play. I saw the Half Shell Oyster house sign and knew I was about to get my oyster fix! We were seated right away but had to wait a hot minute for service. I ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell, a spicy tuna roll, and gumbo. The gals had a cocktails, Elvis roll, red shrimp (I believe), and for my non-seafood friend - just dessert as her entree. The oysters were fantastic - fresh and delicious. The red shrimp were fat and meaty, also delicious. While my friend liked her Elvis roll, the spicy tuna roll was made with chopped up tuna and it just felt like mush in my mouth. I should have asked how the tuna was prepared. Surprisingly, the gumbo was just ok, nothing stood out. Dare I say the gumbo on the Beau Rivage buffet had more depth of flavor? Yup, I said it! The service was disappointing, could not get him to come back to the table - thankfully my friend gave me her water. My "dessert for dinner" friend was forgotten. I didn't realize this was in the Hard Rock Cafe casino, otherwise I would have probably went to their other location across the street since I'm not crazy about gambling. I'm glad I did however, because I ended up getting some souvenirs for my family back home in Southern California. It was a Friday night here, so it was busy for the bar where I decided to sit. I had some local draft beers and the Seafood Gumbo which was good. I also got the Oyster Sampler that comes with a combination of all grilled versions of their oysters. In general, it was all good but a couple of the oysters ended up being dry and overcooked. Can't say that I tasted the shrimp but maybe the crab meat overpowered it. Either way, it was really good! Also comes with a lemon aioli...wasn't sure how that would taste but it was amazing!! I couldn't taste the lemon in it so don't let the name fool you. I wasn't a fan of the dish, but I read great reviews from other Yelpers so go for it!
