Stopped in for lunch while passing thru to my destination. The diner had a large menu to pick from and service was very fast. I came in with a large group and my complaint is that the waitress was kind of rude and she seemed to get annoyed when there were questions asked about menu choices. This was a perfectly reasonable diner. I would give it a solid 3 and 1/2 stars. Service was reasonable. Prices are slightly high but not unheard of. Coffee was unnoticeable, neither good nor bad. Minimal waiting for food. Eggs benny was well done. Certainly one of the better things that I had. Steak and eggs was ok. Steak was undercooked and had many fatty sections. Home fries were completely normal home fries. Hash was ok, very good when mixed with the rest of the hollandaise sauce. TL;DR - Don't make a special trip here. We came here for dinner tonight and left so satisfied! It's hard to find a good gyro in this area. I ordered the original gyro and it was one of the best gyros I've ever had. The menu offered so many different options. I had a side of home fries, so good! My date had the Philly cheesesteak wrap, it was good but very greasy. The desserts looked amazing but we didn't have any appetite left. This place was packed, that's how you know it's a great place. The staff was also very friendly and attentive. This will be my new go to spot for a gyro. read more

We stopped in for a late lunch on a weekday to find the dining room mostly empty. The service was fast but once the food came out our waitress disappeared. I thought melts were a diner staple, however I had to explain what I meant by "chicken finger melt" and ended up with a grilled cheese with cut up chicken strips. This diner is always packed and it always confuses me. I gave it two tries and wasn't really impressed either time. Staff was friendly and quick both times. Went there for breakfast It was excellent. Huge Portions too My pancakes and sausage was so yummy. My waitress was great. Her timing was perfect she took my order just the right time after i sat down at my table, she knew exactly when to come back with my check too, so i didn't have to wait to long. My family and I stopped here for dinner the night before a race a year ago and returned this year because it was just that good. Was not disappointed. The food is out quick, service is speedy, and the food.....let me just tell you....so damn good. I got the French onion soup..I swear it was the best French onion I've ever had. I used to frequent this restaurant all the time. Loved their eggs and would put obscene amounts of heinz catsup on them as well as the home fries. I walk into the diner yesterday and they switched their catsup From heinz to Hunts. I am beside myself over this. How do you go from the greatest catsup in the world to the b rate imitation hunts. Now you may be saying what's the big deal? but it is a big deal. I put catsup on everything. Eggs, steak, hot dogs, I even put it on my tooth brush. I love catsup so much I would marry it if it was acceptable in South Carolina. Please please please go back to Heinz catsup. I miss my favorite diner. read more

I'd be safe in saying that this is the best diner in Saratoga County. It seems to me, the further away you get from NYC/Jersey, the fewer good diners there seem to be. This one is pretty typical. They are always packed for breakfast on sunday which is a good sign (or a sign Saratoga area needs more diners). They have GREAT coffee, hot, fresh, and plentiful. Breakfasts are good: love the home fries! I live in Ballston Spa, but make the 15 minute drive to get here... it's far better than anything closer! read more

Me and 8 friends arrived at Halfmoon the day Hurricane Irene passed through New York. The freeway was shut down due to flooding so we decided to hang around at the diner until the freeway was opened. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The nine of us spent maybe three and a half hours at the diner hanging around waiting for the freeway to open and they were very welcoming the entire time. So the food was great, but it was the service that put Halfmoon over the top. Very well run. read more

First time here and must say, not what I was expecting. This is a super busy diner. There was a short wait for a table( 4 min). Took my server Danielle a few minutes to take a drink order , however she did acknowledge me ( and again it was busy. I'm a server myself so I understand.). I started with the sampler app which in itself is an abundance of food. I ordered the steak as a entree and again it was enough food for two people to share. I primarily go to diner's for breakfast or brunch, so I can't say too much about the dinner entrees at the Halfmoon Diner. They do a great job on breakfast though, with attentive, quick service and big plates of hot food. They serve all of the standard diner fare and have great baked goods and desserts (all homemade). The French Toast is a favorite of mine, made using homemade challah bread, as are the blueberry pancakes. The menu is huge, with all kinds of lunch and dinner specials in addition to burgers, sandwiches and melts. read more

I know it's a "diner" and all, but even diners have standards, right? Let me preface my review by saying that the waitress was pleasant, as was every other employee I interacted with while at the establishment. And I'm hoping, sincerely hoping, that this was just the perfect storm of a dining experience, where everything that can go wrong with the taste and texture of food does go wrong. To that end, the meal I consumed tonight was perhaps the most disappointing one I've paid for in my near 40-year existence. Goodness, where to start...The warning shot was fired when the waitress brought me the seafood bisque, which I can only assume was delivered to the diner in a 5-gallon drum. While the 2-3 microscopic shrimp I found in the bowl were a treat to my eyes, the slippery imitation crab and ridiculously salty base were but a sign of things to come. After scarfing down a simple green salad - hard to screw that one up - I bellied up to the half-chicken dinner, which I decided to pair with broccoli and mashed potatoes. Bad idea. While the chicken wasn't inedible, it was served atop what I can only deduce was some type of apple stuffing. Admittedly, I was too afraid at that point to sample this mushy concoction, but I can't say that the distinguishable sides were any more appetizing to the eye - and, as it turns out, the palate. The brocolli was cold, the mashed potatoes were instant, and the gravy - oh, the gravy - looked like a bowl of beige gelatin. This meal was so bad, so unbelievably bad, that I thought at any moment someone with a video camera was going to emerge from the kitchen and reveal that it was all a big joke. Well, I had to pay for the meal, and for that I'm not laughing. It's been under an hour since I left the restaurant and I'm still in awe over how ludicrous the whole experience was. This is the first time I've ever posted a review online, and I certainly don't want to make a habit of it. Already, I'm feeling a little guilty for being so critical. On the other hand, I paid almost fifty dollars to feed four people (two of whom were children) and feel like I just got mugged. Oddly enough, I don't think the waitress ever asked us how the food was. I guess that would have been a rhetorical question. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. I like this place. I always get the same thing and they have GREAT french fries. Soda is Coke which is a total plus. On the down side, the bacon seems a bit like the ready-made kind from the grocery store. My dining companions often have breakfast and generally love it. However, the homefries or potatoes that come with are not the best--tend to be a little undercooked and seasoned. Gosh, are they FAST with the service. Mediocrity at its finest, the half moon diner is fine, but nothing more. The food probably could be better if our absentee server had spent less time chatting with staff while our plates heated in the window. The service was slow, but practiced as if they know exactly how long to make you wait without customer complaints. I had the Gyro here which I use as a litmus test of a Greek diner. Meat was OK, but there were big chunky slices of cucumber and tomato in the tsatziki sauce. Like a little too big. Pita was nice and warm, meat was good, but there was an over abundance of core iceberg lettuce. Some pieces of stem still left in it. I still liked it because I'm an easy win :-) read more

I happen to love the Halfmoon Diner and the 76 Diner in Latham as well. I like the fact that the Halfmoon Diner is family owned, and SO WHAT if they're Greek. A lot of Greek families' own restaurants in the area. Ok Ok I will give you the old man (I'm assuming he's the father) is not the friendliest and he should put on a better face if he's going to host (seat people) and run the register. His son is very professional and business oriented. He's very polite to the customers, and conscientious about how long customers wait for a table. I like the fact that the menu is HUGE, with laods of selections. Perhaps they were going through some changes in the kitchen (with the help) because I have NEVER had a crappy meal there. read more
