What the heck happened? This place was my hidden gem for boneless wings. I got take out recently and it was really bad quality. I had this place at 5 stars. I got my usual order of boneless wings which used to be these huge tenders perfectly cooked and sauced. This last order was like tiny bit of small nuggets. Not one full tender to be seen. It was scraps of chicken. See my pictures from 6 months ago that look awesome. Compare that to this most recent order and it's all nugget scraps. Not to mention the taste was not as good. I ordered a steak tip dinner to go the other night with double fries the food was done quickly cooked exactly how I ordered medium rare. The fries were great. They put them in separate containers so that they didn't get all soaked from the steak tips very generous portions the staff was very friendly. read more

We order two cape cod Ruben's and Turkey tips. The Ruben's were Devine, huge and filling . Took me three times to finish. Delicious pickles. The turkey I didn't particularly love the sauce and it was kind of bland served with brown rice with some seasoning and carrots, but it could really have used a vegetable to go with it to make it a complete dinner. Not sure if that was a cut back after Covid But my vote would be underwhelming. That being said, the order came super quick so, extra points for that. Will be back. read more

.They have televisions 360 degrees around the restaurant/ bar. Great if that is what I was there for. Half is restaurant half is the bar. It was 4:30 in the afternoon and the place was three quarters full. They have their own parking lot so that is not an issue. I had a Ruben with onion rings. The Ruben was soggy and I thought the onion rings were oily. The Ruben had corn beef, sour kraut, Swiss cheese and thousand island salad dressing. It was room temperature so it must have been sitting in the kitchen for a while. That's probably why it was soggy. The serving size was large enough to justify the price. I love Ruben's and order when I see it on the menu. The bartender was friendly, greeting me when I sat down. She was attentive to my desires. All right at this point I'm had enough things here that I could tell you they do not miss. I know that everything I order off the menu is about to be good. I have had steak tips from here clam chowder, stuffing (omg, mad they don't always have it. Hint hint). Today I order a hot dog everything on the side and they listened to just that. But I was not expecting this monster. Came with a side, you have options. I always get Chef vegetables hoping that I get brussel sprouts. Today I got broccoli but I love it because they never cook it so it's soggy it just has this nice crunch. And it has this nice like salty flavor to it so it's not just like blend broccoli. Not to mention when you go in there those ladies are the ish. Shout out to them in the hard work they put in because that place is always full and somehow they always are able to put in those little side orders for me. read more

OMG, my favorite place has really gone downhill! Just ordered a turkey tip dinner, chicken nachos and a side order of fries. The nachos was editable, but barely had any cheese on it. The turkey tips were HORRIBLE! They took it upon themselves to butterfly the tips into small thin pieces and then burnt the heck out of them! Tried eating a few pieces, but it was like eating hard, chard rubber. Was looking forward to sharing a delicious meal with my son, but could not do so because of all the carcinogenic chard on the meat. Extremely disappointed dinner. I used to come here often in school and not much has changed, which is kind of cool. They still give you popcorn and the set up is the same. The food is okay. It can be a fun vibe for sure depending on the time and day of the week. It is also somewhere that is open later compared to some restaurants in the area. This small pub makes you feel right at home in the first moment you walk in. Best service and American pub food in the Watertown area. Highly recommend coming in on Tuesdays or Thursdays for trivia. I'm not a fan, some of the food taste like it came out the can or box. I had the ribs but I wasn't too fond of them, was kind of hard. The sauce they put on in the barbecue sauce is really good. Today I asked the server if dogs are allowed here & she stated that service dogs are. The only reason that the family gets away with bringing the family pet here is because you can't ask for proof. THIS WAS NOT A SERVICE ANIMAL & this dog was right behind us & barking as if it was in open space. So unfair as a few patrons were really looking at this dog & not wanting it here! Loved the local bar feel with the GF bar food options. I was happy to find this place and even happier to see GF options on the menu, not just salads. It was a fun place to hang out for an afternoon. My wife and I went here today, it was a great experience. Because it was a Monday at 4:pm,we basically had the place to ourselves . The server was really nice,and welcoming. The food was plentiful and delicious. We started off with nachos with chilli, a huge pile. I had the shepherd's pie,while my wife had the cheeseburger. A lunch catch-up/trash our old jobs meeting led me to the Halfway Cafe. A few minutes early, I call my lunch date to find out if I'm really supposed to park in the gravel pit/parking lot behind the restaurant. Yes. There is a luncheon specials menu, and a "7 for $7" menu, too. The gnocchi, shrimp mac n cheese, and asian style pork tips all sounded intriguing but potentially disgusting, so I settled on the turkey burger. It was overcooked, but not terrible. The fries were crispy and okay. We were offered free popcorn (can't turn that down!) by our friendly waitress, I think her name was Jen. Majority of the staff is very rude and unwelcoming. I've eaten at this location a total of five times because the food is good and they serve pretty large portions for the most part. I would have made this place one of my weekly go-to spots but the bartenders/servers are very stupid. I've been here with friends who do the pub trivia occasionally. I don't know how busy this place is normally on weeknights, but tonight, for the holiday week and trivia, it was standing room only. As soon as we found space to sit, we were greeted with menus and given a small bowl of popcorn. The popcorn was unbelievably salty and slightly burnt. I noticed very little popcorn came out the rest of the night and no one used the machine, so maybe it was broken, or they ran out of popcorn. They were also out of at least 1 of their regular beers (listed on a board on the wall). Food and drink are served pretty fast. It's standard pub food. I feel the appetizers are a better deal, the portions seem more generous, especially the onion rings. I think you can watch TV here. I counted at least 16 of them, and a few more running Keno. I think this place has the most TV per square inch of wall I've ever seen. They run Stump Trivia here. Their regular hostess (an acquaintance of mine) was out ill tonight, and she's a fun person in general. Her substitute was certainly full of himself. For a relatively small, crowded space, the acoustics here were really good. This place serves a good quantity of fun. read more

My one gripe about this place is their parking lot: it's in desperate need of being repaved and when it rains, huge puddles form that make it difficult to navigate when walking. read more

Halfway Café in Watertown has been a go to for years. The wings with Buzz sauce and chicken quesadillas are delicious. Twice in the past month I have called to place an order and have not been able to get an answer. First time there was a busy signal for over an hours. When I went in, no one knew why. Tonight I called with no answer, then when I called back the message said they were closed. I drove by and they are clearly open. Got the fried pickles to share and the Farmhouse burger on Texas toast (pork belly, fried egg, sharp white cheddar). I don't usually find fried pickles in many places near Boston/Boston suburbs, but these were pleasantly crispy and tasty. The burger was huge, well-cooked, and not overly greasy, but it could have used more pork belly. There was only one small slice that barely covered half of the burger patty. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the burger. One thing I really did not like was the fries--they were soggy and not particularly flavorful. $5 BURGERS ON MONDAYS! That's what I was told by my friend... So my grandmother and I gave this place a try last night. Maybe it was the fact that it was a crappy day (rainy, cold, dark) but the atmosphere here was not warm and welcoming. In fact my grandmother and I never took our coats off throughout our short mealtime in the cramped corner booth. It definitely looks like this is more of a watering hole for whatever "regular" clientele it attracts. They didn't have hot coco late so I got a tea to warm up.. We both ordered burgers - service took about 15 minutes to make time -- but also 15 minutes to take our order in the first place and it wasn't that busy. I was dreading the burger because I was not feeling the place at all but the burger ended up being delicious. Really a substantial portion for a whopping $5. I added blue cheese for .79 and that was also great. You can substitute sweet potato fried at no cost. I probably won't be back here but the burger was delicious and cheap... So in a pinch on a Monday I could do it again, but if you're looking to feel comfortable, warm and welcomed this is not the place. read more

Wow - 12 tvs and 2 keno screens. If you want to re-live the 80's via food and music or you miss the "Ground Round" (ie salty, stale popcorn) this is the place for you. I don't sit at the bar when I come because I am usually with the kids so we sit in the dining room. Today it was hot outside and there was no one there when we got there (loads when we left). A dirt lot is for parking and although glad they have a place when it rains it is muddy or when you are trying to leave the bottom of the car hits the ground from all the extremely large divets - coming out fo the lot is difficult at rush hour from the light and those going into or thru Watertown sq. Maybe need to park on the street going the opposite direction. The wait staff seems nice enough but not very attentive. I waited for a good 5 minutes (in an empty establishment) for 4 waitresses to tell me I could sit anywhere. They did come back and ask if everything was ok, but then did not see them until about 15 minutes AFTER we were already done. I have had the teriyaki steak tips, rays way (the smaller, lighter version which is nice if you are with someone who needs to watch what they are eating) and it was very good. Today, we had the sampler platter which is ample -- nachos, potato skins, mozarella wedges, buffalo chicken tenders and sauces. My only complaint is that it needs to be a larger plate - the plate was too small for all that stuff and although I don't care if my food touches (or gets hot sauce on my potato skins) the 2 other people with me did. The kid's meals are a good size and if your kid is not a pre-teen, it should be enough. They have decent meal deals - eat free on your birthday, 7 menu items for $7 and the kids eat free on Monday/Tuesday with each adult meal and, although forgot to ask about it today, sometimes they have the half off appetizers before 5 p.m. If I were alone, I would not come here to eat (maybe come sometime to experience the bar), but I have a picky-eater and he sometimes asks to come here, so I do.
