Have got and enjoyed the rotisserie chicken many times over the past couple of years. Always very moist and delicious . Unfortunately, our purchase of four dinners last night was anything but. The leg of the chicken was very dry , the bones of the leg portion broke into pieces as i cut into the leg and the white meat on the breast was almost inedible because of how dry it was. First timed visiting. It was featured on the phantom gourmet so I thought I will it. I got a half regular chicken with mac & cheese and cream spinach. It was very delicious. The employee (Sam) was professional. He very helpful with helping me choose from the regular recipes or the special recipe. He said get the regular recipe and next you can try the special recipe. I drove 33 miles. It was worth the drive. read more

Another Phantom Gourmet spot I had to try! Modern Rotisserie is a very lively spot because of the bold color schemes. You can grab your food to-go or eat here which I've never tried before. It looks a wee bit tight in the room next door, New England Soup Factory, which they own too. Prime Rib Sandwich- They only served this on Saturday, so of course I grabbed this bad boy and oh my, it was a mountain of meat! This was served with their own au jus dipping sauce. Such an excellent succulent and juicy sandwich. Apple Brined Roasted Chicken- Very tender. Surprisingly it was lacking a little flavor (it may have been too dry) so we ended up dipping it in the au jus. Cheez-It Mac & Cheese- A nice spin on the classic mac & cheese. It's creamy with familiar crunchy topping. Very good. Roasted Brussel Sprouts & Kale- Eck. Too lemony and watery. It definitely did not tasted like it was roasted. Carrots- Same thing! Stop sautéing your vegetables with that lemon sauce. Lemon Pudding- This lush dessert tasted like a sweet lemon meringue pie. Delish. The only thing that should taste lemony! Overall Service: Super friendly folks. I told them I'm going to be traveling with the food for 45 mins so they sealed it up nicely and not a single spill. Thank you guys! read more

Soooooo good! First time we have been in and were warmly greeted by staff. So many sides to choose from! We went with the family deal (full rotisserie chicken with three sides). I absolutely love this place! So much so that every time I am in the Boston area, I make it a point to stop by if I can. The staff is so very kind, and will take the time to talk to you about the different ingredients used in the food. They usually have 3 varieties of chicken with a bar of sides. The portions are generous enough to where I was able to eat two meals. The ambiance is cozy, however this place is for takeout only, so don't expect to eat there. 10/10 will return! read more

This place is awesome. The chicken dinners have so much flavor and not the usual chicken dinner but they have that too. I recently brought my 89 yes old mother the peach and pear chicken. She had been I'll and we were trying to have her eat as much as possible. Just like NESF (its sister restaurant next door), the food here is extremely over salted. The chicken was so salty as were the collard greens/Brussel sprout side that it just left an unpleasant after taste. The mashed potatoes and stuffing were tasty. If you're craving thanksgiving like meal during the off season, it's a decent option but would not recommend the chicken. read more

Tried this place after seeing their video on Phantom Gourmet and was pleasantly surprised. Got the half chicken meal with two sides, so I chose the mango habanero chicken, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese. Real homestyle, comfort atmosphere that matches the food being served. Chicken was juicy and tender, mashed potatoes and gravy was very tasty, and the mac & cheese was creamy, fresh and delicious. Only gripes would have to be the price ($16 for this + a can of soda), and my chicken was flooded with the mango habanero sauce, which made it difficult to manage in the tray provided. A little less sauce would have made the meat stand out more as well. Overall a good experience. read more

I had the very good fortune to meet Chef and talk with her. Chef's style is to find and make the eclectic- foods you may not consider that work together. We enjoyed a great conversation about food styles, supplies (of food) and so on. They make everything fresh - nothing processed here as near as I can tell. One of my girls from work suggested to come here during our lunch break together. The day we went they had the Jamaican Jerk Chicken and it was delicious! The chicken was juicy and plenty of the sauce to dip meat into. The portions of chicken and the sides are very generous. I had left overs for dinner that night. I tried the mac and cheese and potato salad and they did not disappoint. I like that they offer different types of chicken daily so you never know what they will have for that day. Had a BBQ beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and the sauteed kale brussel sprout mix. Dish served nice and hot. The mashed potatoes and gravy were an excellent flavor. The kale and Brussels had just the right combo of garlic and lemon. The sandwich, however was not so good. I would stick with the chicken next time. I've had the Mac and cheese here which is a favorite of mine but they didn't have any so I chose the other sides! Quite disappointed since i asked for it and he didn't mention that shortly after making my plate they would bring out a fresh pan. This place should be considered a serious step up from Boston Market, but with prices to match. The chicken, whether it be their traditional rotisserie style or their flavored daily styles, are always flavorful and ooooh-so-delicious. I will agree with others - sometimes the chicken can be a tad dry. it's a 50/50 shot. Their gravy is also to die for! I end up getting it all over the various sides I order with my chicken plates. Some of the other sides, again, are hit-or-miss. I'd hoped to love their cornbread stuffing, instead I sorta thought Stove Top could possibly beat it. So far, my favorite side has to be their habañero pasta salad - always great to warm the mouth and widen your eyes! LOL But there is consistency here. Sister company to the New England Soup Factory which is connected directly to it. My two smallish gripes - price is a tad high, and I wish I could order from Soup or Rotisserie and pay all at once versus ordering, paying, then ordering again and paying again. read more

After seeing this place on phantom gormet this morning we had to go! We were dying for the French dip sandwiches they had advertised as their Saturday special. We were very disappointed to arrive after a 30 minute drive to find out they had run out of said special well before lunch hour. We were informed by the very patient and kind staff member that we should arrive when they opened to enjoy the sandwich. I wish this was advertised. We ordered some of the famous chicken and it was very good. I'd love to go back and try that sandwich but we may choose a closer lunch spot in the future. read more

I am a huge fan of rotisserie chicken so when walking through Newton looking for a place to grab lunch I just had to try this place. This place is pricier than the well known rotisserie chicken chain but you get what you paid for. The organic chicken is juicy and flavorful. Even the sides are an upscale version of what you might get at the other place. There are over a dozen sides to choose from. I got to try kale and brussel sprouts, and the country potato salad. We stopped in for a late lunch this afternoon, after shopping at TJ Maxx and seeing the chicken logo on the door as we passed the place. I love a good chicken place and was excited that there was one i had not seen before. The choices of sides was very diverse and exciting, from the normal comfort food sides, to some more gourmet options. I had the chicken breast plate, with Boston baked beans and Cheezit Mac 'n Cheese .. my fiance had the leg and thigh plate with the Mac 'n Cheese and Mashed potatoes. We both really enjoyed the juicy, fresh chicken, which fell off the bone and the tasty sides. It was a nice, unexpected lunch, and we will definitely return. 2 people, a good deal of food and 2 sodas for $25. read more

After returning cable boxes to Verizon I was starving and didn't want too much and decided to come here to try out either the soups or the chicken. I was hoping that the the chicken was going to be as good as the roasted chicken at Machu Picchu in Somerville but was sadly disappointed. It wasn't as juicy and I'm not sure if the cook that day decided to put salt on everything but it tasted drier than normal. Mac & cheese was OK and obviously saltier than normal as well as the rice which seemed under cooked. I certainly won't come back here and if I were you I would try the sides first before ordering them in case the seasoning is not up to par. It's too bad that these restaurants are just based on recipes where they could throw anybody in to try and cook up a meal that is subpar. There is no more love in cooking when it comes to these places and maybe that's why they appear on Phantom gourmet. So my search for chicken goes back to Somerville or I drive to Market Basket and get a roasted chicken cheap. read more

We've wanted to try this place for a while, and after seeing it again on Phantom Gourmet decided it was a must do for Friday night dinner. We got there around 6pm. Our plan was to get a "family meal" so we would have left-overs for the following day. Well, no family meals, just plates. You can make your own family meal, $16 for what amounts to a very small chicken and $6 per pint sized side dish. We opted for the spicy mac n cheese, southern succotash and bacon/cheese grits. I have to say we were disappointed. For a $40 total meal, we expected it to be delicious.....not just okay. The chicken tasted nice, but was on the dry side. Not juicy at all. The sides were better....however, the mac n cheese was dry too, like it was heated over too long. Not one bit creamy and the cheez-it crumbs were meh...not crispy, not soggy, just there. The succotash was the best thing, but tasted more italian than southern. Grits were tasty, but again should have been creamier. That's why I said up front that we got there at 6pm. That should be a time you expect the meals at there best...its not like we pulled up 5 minutes before closing. The pudding desserts were the best thing we had; creamy cocount and butterscotch chocolate chip. All things considered, we won't be back. I will give credit where it is due. Maybe I came on a bad night in the past or picked the wrong sides. Just had a delicious meal for a decent price. Chicken was well done and not dry (although I did get dark meat). I felt like I could eat that meal for thanksgiving and be happy. Paid less than $12 and could prob get two meals out of it. read more

The food is so good at this restaurant, I had to create a Yelp page for them just so I can write a review and let everyone else know how good it is. Modern Rotisserie is the sister restaurant of New England Soup Factory. I heard about this restaurant on Phantom Gourmet yesterday morning and before the segment was over, I was already searching for the directions of how to get there. The menu selection and the quality of the food looked so invited that I just had to check it out for myself. I made the 30 minute drive from East Boston to Newton and I was so glad that I did. I was NOT disappointed. I had the rotisserie chicken leg and thigh (cooked perfectly with a carmelization on the skin that is finger-licking good) with the two sides of baked macaroni and cheese with a crushed Cheez-It crust (so good that your eyes automatically roll in the back of your head) and the cole slaw (just the right amount of creamy and crunchy). My boyfriend had the Saturday special of Roast Beef sandwich (so tender that it melted in your mouth) with the two sides of grits (with short ribs and cheese mixed which was a creamy heavenly surprise) and southern succotash (just perfect). The food was seasoned so perfectly that you didn't need to add anything to it. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly and always there to make sure that the seating area was cleaned and ready for the next customer. On top of this, the owner is so friendly with a warm personality. It's like talking to an old friend. She even came over to ask how everything was. There was not enough adjectives to describe how good everything tasted. We can't wait to go back and try something else on the menu. There are so many different sides that it's so hard to just choose two. The portions are so big that you will definitely leave full and satisfied. They also have homemade desserts if you happen to have room left. If I had to criticize one thing, I guess it would be that I wished that there was a bigger dining room and I didn't notice a bathroom on the premises. I had lunch here with some colleagues. We were all impressed. It reminded us of a nicer Boston Market with a slightly higher quality of chicken and sides. I had a pudding cup like homemade desert that I am sure will bring me back to the modern rotisserie just for that. The chicken was roasted perfectly and juicy with good tasting seasonings. Had lunch here yesterday and wow wow wow! The chicken was amazing. I did get their seasonal rice and string beans. The rice was great, the chicken was amazing as well. I do agree that the place is a bit pricey, but it was well worth it. Customer service was on point. Wish they would have added a small sign next to the green beans warning customers that it was spicy, but other than that I would return without any hesitation. read more

I tried this place on a whim and thought it was fantastic. They had an artichoke and lemon half chicken special and it was so yummy and juicy - really perfectly done. I got the half chicken plus two sides which was $13, plus added a third small side for $3, for me and my two kids to share for dinner. Came out to about $17.50 with tax. I liked all of the sides a lot: green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy and cheesy cauliflower and so did the kids. Some reviews said the chicken is dry. I didn't try the regular but the lemon and artichoke special was one of the juiciest chickens I've ever had. Others said the chicken was expensive. Really? That's unfair. A whole rotisserie is $14.95. My half chicken meal with three sides was $17- and it fed me and my two kids (or it would have fed two adults so $8-9/meal). Free range chicken is the best and most expensive kind. If I had purchased a free range chicken from the supermarket with lemons and artichokes, those three ingredients alone would have cost me more than $17. And then I would have still had to cook it and clean up and I would have had no sides. I actually think it's a fantastic deal. read more
