Came here this evening for a cup of coffee and something small to share with my husband. These had to be the best Irish fries I've had yet. The white cheddar cheese sauce was great. I prefer that over just baking fries in the oven with shredded white cheddar. The fries were also perfectly crunchy. Very filling and we had to bring some home. The French onion soup was perfect. Lots of cheese and the broth was very flavorful. Our server was nice and took care of us. The inside of this place was very spacious. Love the granite countertops and the atmosphere. I ordered takeout for delivery. The turkey platter was so salty, it was practically inedible. The cranberry sauce was missing. A very disappointing experience. The excessive salt was also in previous turkey platters I ordered so this is not a one time experience. It was a lot of money to spend on something that is going to be given to our dogs. spend. Poor customer service notice!!! Halligan's Pub My teenage daughter was home alone and wanted to order a plain grilled chicken sandwich. She ordered from Halligan's on Grubhub. Searching through the site she could not find the sandwich in the menu but has ordered it before in person. So she ordered the closest thing she could find, the Cajun chicken sandwich. She put it clearly in the comments she wanted a plain chicken sandwich with no seasoning since one could not be found on line. (see note in screenshot) When it arrived it was seasoned. It was very spicy and she could not eat it. When I called to complain, I was told it is under burgers on the menu online and they were very argumentative with me. I still can not find it on the Grub Hub menu. When I asked if I could get a grilled chicken sandwich to replace this one, I was told it would be 10 dollars and some change. I asked if they were still going to charge us over this mistake, they said I would have to pay for the new sandwich. I hung up. I am now on my way to Jerzee's Sports Bar and Pizzaria to get a sandwich. had a bad experience the service was so slow never came back to ask if needed anything couldn't get anyone's attention had no silverware finally flagged the hostess. Took 15 minutes to get our drinks I'm thinking they were short handed but they never said anything. Never received my tots until we were done eating so given to me as takeout no charge but still disappointed. Asked for a dessert to go never received it and left was not included on the bill so figured he forgot or realized was not on bill so wasn't redoing the bill. They were not using half the place which indicates short handed but didn't help with service. My husband ended up eating his crab cake without cocktail sauce because we couldn't get the waiter's attention or anyone else. I suggested Halligan's as we have eaten there before a few times, but will not Be eating there anytime soon. read more

I called around to all of the local restaurants in Flourtown and Chestnut Hill and Halligans was the only one with a chicken soup on their menu. I bought 2 servings and it was DELICIOUS! Halligan's is one of those comfortable, neighborhood pub-like restaurants that offers a noisy bar, a quieter area, plus an outside patio perfect for decent weather. The bar boasts four large screen tvs, inevitably tuned to one sports event. Want to watch the Phillies? The Eagles? Here's a place to go, The food is mediocre, but at least not terribly expensive. The first time I went the ordinary salad I ordered was marred by an almost inedible dressing. This time I brought my own, so my entree salad was fine. Look at the menu in advance. Went for dinner 4 nights ago. Had only been here for lunch once about 10 years ago. Saw the menu on line so we decided to give it a try. I really wish I had heeded the reviews. While our 2 entrees were very good the service was not. The bar area was packed but the dining area was about half full. So it wasn't crowds that kept the wait staff from being so slow. It took far too long for the wait staff to take our order, we never got asked if we wanted refills on our drinks, never were asked if we cared for dessert or coffee. And it took forever to get our check. We'll probably give it another shot in the next few months hoping this past visit was an aberration but they'll have to treat us as if we're valuable customers if we are to go back after that. read more

Halligans has a great ambiance, lots of TVs and a decent selection of beers on tap, and even more in bottles. You can't help but love the brick walls, batten beam paired with chalkboard plus the ever-woven unique layout. Unfortunately bathrooms are not handicap accessible, they're only upstairs and have narrow doorways. The Irish egg rolls were very tasty, satisfyingly crunchy, but a bit oily on the inside. The shepherds pie was pretty, but lacked any vegetables besides a little bit of mushroom and some onions. It was especially salty. The peanut butter pie was delicious but be prepared for at least half a jar of whipped peanut butter if you're going to indulge. Wait staff was decent, I think we caught them at an overly busy time so maybe they were less attentive than usual. I'm definitely not against coming back & seems a welcome substitute to the overly crowded magerks gastropub. read more

Yep, the menu still brags about the "Best Staff on the East Coast," and while our server was awesome and totally on top of things (and also very cool with our kids), the wait for dinner tonight was crazy. I was starving already - guess who forgot to eat lunch again today? - and when i see other tables that were seated after us get served faster, it sends me into a tizzy. Yes, a tizzy. But when the food did come, I totally got over it. I ordered a cheesesteak, since I was delirious with hunger, thus breaking my self imposed one-cheesesteak-a-year rule. But hot damn, I ate the hell out of that bastard. Food was flying everywhere, onions were falling out of my mouth - it was crazy food porn gone wild. The best part - there was no grease. How do you make a cheesesteak with no grease? We are a group of regulars at the bar. food is good, but would like to see more appetizers with some smaller portions and price. Not everyone can eat that much food. Spicy shrimp would be good. Onion soup is great. The other soups are served all week, so you never know how long they have been around. Soups used to change more often. Now the soups are all the same need a little more variety. Regular meat Tacos were on the menu and just disappeared. We used to order them often and they were good. But they are gone. We went here for dinner last night & not very impressed. The spinach & artichoke dip was good just not creamy enough, but had lots of artichokes yum. My bf had the shepherds pie & it had too much gravy & to me it tasted like tangy pine-Sol. Not very happy with it. I had the chicken Halligans the sauce & mushrooms were tasty but the chicken has a weird texture to it, but all & all not bad. Honestly I won't go back here. Sorry Oh the staff was very very nice!! I have been pretty careful all of quarintine, not only am I at risk but so is pretty much my whole family. I am too scared to eat outside at the restaurants so my boyfriend and I always get takeout. Not only was there MONEY (multiple pennys under the fries so I ate some food before I even saw them.. GROSS) in my food, but when we called and complained they asked us, "what do you want us to do?" In the middle of a pandemic? Are you kidding me? We got all our money back but guess who's never going there again? Lol. Literally in the middle of a pandemic and they had one of the dirtiest substances on earth in my food. Now I'm not feeling so great. Due in full to Rick R.'s fantastic review, we decided to try Halligan's, and were very glad that we did. One of the things we liked about Halligan's is that you can tell it's a neighborhood spot, packed with locals. Every table was full with families eating together, with children of all ages, and the bar was full, too. We were lucky to get a couple of seats at the bar, and where we decided to stay and eat. The decor is definitely no frills, but seems to be moving in the direction of something more modern, that is it's not a dive bar. The beer selection is not bad. Lots of domestics on tap, but also a couple of craft picks. More craft beer available in bottles. It looks like they're moving towards a setup with quickly rotating beers, as they've decided to use a chalkboard on the wall to display the beer list, which seems good. I decided to go with a Guiness on tap, which while perhaps not the 'perfect pour' was tasty nonetheless. I was pretty impressed with the food here. The menu definitely has a bar food bent to it. We decided to try a few things to get a feel for the food, so started with the spicy curly fries (good), went to the arugula salad (HIGHLY recommend--the goat cheese balls they put in the salad are amazing), and finished with a cheesesteak hoagie (nicely prepared, good hot peppers). The menu is pretty large, and we hope to go back and try more of the food. One of my favorite aspects of the place was the service. Our bartender (I think her name was Ellen) was great--very funny and attentive. She definitely was a big part of the overall experience. "This place doesn't skimp", so says my Dad the cheapskate. We took him and my Stepmother there a few months ago on a Monday night (cheap night)- when all of the entrees are $10.95. Since then- it is all he talks about. So, we went back tonight... We each ordered something different, and we all sampled each others food. I was too scared to order the Turkey Croquettes- but my husband did- and they were excellent! I had the Chicken Halligan- and although it was tasty, my only complaint was that there was way too much of it. My Stepmother ordered the Sheperds Pie (again scared), but this was great too! My Dad had a big lunch, so he just had the chicken salad- but that kept him happy. And folks, that is all that really matters here. That and the fact that they have a good beer selection. read more

This is a easy popular neighborhood place where they may not know your name but recognize a repeat face! Delicious fries! Highly recommended turkey burger, fab coke slaw and turkey clubs. ***STOP!*** If you have not been here in the past 3 weeks, don't read any other reviews. The menu has completely changed. The decor has changed. The draft and craft beer list has vastly improved! Walking into the newly restyled bar and dining room area you'll notice some changes. The decor and ambiance is much improved. Their draft and craft beer list is now written on the chalkboard painted wall across from the bar. It is easy to see from most of the seats and is a great way to advertise their beer list. The new menu is great. They have lots of choices from munchies and sandwiches to tasty entrees and dessert. In the past the food was bland, at best. I was never a big fan, even though I live so close. The food now is on par with good city bars and pubs, if not better than a lot of them. I'd liken their quality to places such as Rembrandt's and even Lemon Hill in Fairmount. Good food, good selection of beer, and a good ambiance. I believe it may take a little while for the younger crowd to realize a change for the better has taken place. Now that my fiance and I are aware we will be going here on a weekly basis.
