I needed a new dishwasher so I researched them on the internet. I decided on a particular model of Whirlpool. Then I went shopping and my first stop was Hallock's. The saleswoman, Lidia was very helpful and they had the model I wanted in stock. This was on a Saturday and delivery and installation were promised for Tuesday morning between 8 and 12. Tuesday morning came and just before 9 the installer arrived. The installer was from Bill's Professional Appliance Installers and was amazing to watch. In an hour he had the old dishwasher out and the new one in. As I watched him, he had no wasted motions and knew exactly what to do at each step. Kudos to Hallock's for using such a good subcontractor. All in all, I was totally pleased with the entire process. read more

Things have really changed since moving to Cedar Street. After many years of service between New Haven, West haven and Branford Hill- I am now cutting ties with Hallocks. Poor customer service experience, wrong unit ordered and no help with getting a comparable unit. What happened to professionalism and respect? Buyer beware, go elsewhere. read more

We were in need of a new stove. I had bought an air conditioner here in the past and wanted to buy from a local store, so I went back to Hallock's. I found a stove that met our needs, paid for it and arranged delivery. I believe I bought it on a Monday evening. The salesman said it would be delivered sometime Thursday. I questioned whether he needed to run this by the delivery guys before telling me this; he said it would definitely be Thursday and that someone would call and give me a delivery window. By 8 pm Wednesday I had heard nothing, and the office at the store was closed. I called first thing Thursday morning to make sure it was still coming and was told by Dottie that, no they would not be delivering it that day and that we needed to arrange something else. This was after I had taken the day off for this. We arranged for the stove to be delivered the following day (Friday) and that someone would call to let me know roughly what time this would be. Once again, I did not hear from anyone. I called first thing Friday to find out what was going on, but this time no one was answering and I left a message. This was the second day I had taken off for this delivery. The outgoing message at Hallock's had said that the office closed at 4, so I figured that if I didn't have a new stove in my house or get a call back from someone on this by 3:45, I would be calling and canceling the deal altogether. While I like to use local businesses, if the service is poor I will go elsewhere. The delivery guys called at 3:40 to say they would be arriving shortly. The stove came, they installed. They did strip one of the screws when replacing the rear panel on the stove, but I can live with that. Within a couple of hours of arrival, we noticed a minor problem that would require attention. I was passing by the store the next day and stopped in and spoke to the saleswoman on duty at the time. She was very pleasant; got on the phone and spoke to Dottie about having someone come out to the house. She said Dottie was busy, but she'd be calling shortly. I thanked her and left. Roughly TWO WEEKS after waiting for Dottie to call, I called her, explained our problem, said I'd been waiting for her to call, as I had been told would happen, and was following up. Without apologizing for dropping the ball for the third time over the course of this transaction, she curtly gave me the number of the manufacturer's service department. I have to say, the woman I spoke to at Whirlpool was a delight. The repair guys they sent out were from Tri-City Appliance and were pleasant, competent and did a better job of explaining the features and how to operate the stove than anyone at the store. I will probably be using Tri-City in the future for appliance repairs. I can get one of these stoves anywhere. The only thing the store had to do was take my money and deliver it on time and take care of any warranty problems. Well, they took my money but weren't so good on the other items. I understand they were using a third party to handle the delivery and installation, but they have someone working at the store who is supposed to be arranging the delivery and the sending out of repair people, and I still had to take two days off to finally have it delivered. I feel terrible writing such a negative review but we are in disbelief about our experience here. We purchased a GE washing machine two weeks ago. Initially it could not be delivered because it was broke. Then it came the next day and water leaked all over our basement. The staff member we spoke to didn't apologize or offer any assistance beyond replacing it at their convenience. We have the replacement now which is also not working correctly. We are struggling to get this one taken out and our refund. The customer service has been abysmal. Please don't consider purchasing from here. I am one of the few people that loves appliance shopping. I went to all the big box stores and checked online. Hallocks really did have excellent prices on GE appliances if that is what you are in the market for. We bought our GE cafe Fridge from here, and were very happy with everything through the buying process to delivery. They don't throw their money into making the place look like a show room...if that's what you want then shopping here is not for you. Its bare bones, white walls, with tons of options including scratch and dent. Do your homework..you will most likely end up here like I did. :) read more

If this was a review of Kathy from the Hallock's sales department it would have five stars*****. Kathy knows a lot about appliances and offers great advice. The delivery department is quite another story. They were supposed to call me one hour prior to delivery; they did not pay attention to this. The first delivery group arrived and would not remove the old refrigerator. They said that they could not get it through the doorway. The second groups came an hour later. They were rockstars! They picked the fridge up and just carried it out! I would advise Jack Fast to end his relationship with the first group as they are putting Hallocks in a negative light. I recommend Hallock's if you ask for Kathy and DEMAND that you get the second group that I had in my home to deliver. They were by description two African American men. The first group should go to work for Hone Depot. I would like to add that the first delivery group put the new fridge together and left screws on my floor which I discovered after they left. This is a safety hazard. The delivery service is not free at Hallock's. I cannot believe that I paid extra for this aggravation. read more

Bill spent plenty of time and answered all of my questions when I was comparing models; even though my ultimate choice was on back-order, I still got it before the estimated date thanks to a little extra effort on their part, and was thrilled. These guys have it all! My fiancé and I were driving back to MA from NY when we saw the billboard for this place. We figured "Why not?" We are collecting appliances for our house we are building and we're not ashamed to save a few bucks on a floor model or scratch-and-dent with no real noticeable damage. When we walked in, the (commission) staff was friendly and helpful without the high-pressure "vulture" feel. After browsing through tons of appliances, we found just what we were looking for, at an awesome price. Needless to say, we made our purchase and loaded it up that day. We also talked to them about ordering the remaining appliances we need and they are not only able to get what we need, but well below retail - for brand new appliances! One of the worst experiences ever. Bought a refrigerator, the delivery guys broke the wiring harness, rendering it unusable. Sent GE out, who said we needed a new door, but it was on back order for 3 weeks. Door never came it. Continually called Hallocks - first, we had to repeat the story every time. Second, many promises to "look into it and call us back tomorrow" were not kept. Finally, 6 weeks later, we told them to come get the refrigerator (sitting in the middle of my kitchen), and to refund us. They said refund would be processed as soon as they got the refrigerator back. Refrigerator returned on Monday, as of Friday no refund... Had to call them again and give them all our information and tell them the whole story again. Supposedly they are finally processing the refund. I have never dealt with a small business where they can't even remember who you are. read more

As a followup, some very nice people named Dave and Jerome came out from Hallocks. They installed the washer and dryer. Unfortunately, the washer failed the install test, and they had me get the Electrolux repair service out. In the meantime I got a call from Jack F, the head of Hallocks, who listened patiently to my story, and gave me his contact numbers. Fortunately, Electrolux was able to reset the electronics by phone and the washer started, so now I have some beauties of a washer and dryer. Time from purchase was 7 weeks, but my faith in Hallocks is restored. read more

After 2 failed attempts at having a fridge delivered (first at Art's in North Haven and 2nd at Home Depot in North Haven), we finally contacted Hallock's. The salesperson over the phone was very polite and helpful, delivery was scheduled quickly, the price was right, the delivery people were polite and professional, and the fridge works wonderfully. I was in need of a new oven, mine was broke. I originally ordered online from Lowe's and after back and forth hassle with rude customer service people I canceled and contacted Hallocks! I should of called them to begin with! I worked with Dominick and he is awesome! He helped me find a stove with all my requirements I requested and he also price-matched all competitors for me! He got my stove delivered to me in only two days. Hallocks is very professional and they have great customer service. Dominick even sent me a kind thank you card in the mail. The delivery team was also great they brought in my new oven toke away my old one. They set up the oven made sure it was level and they removed all the plastic showed me how to use it and asked if I had any additional questions. Hallocks is Truly the best appliance company I have ever used and I recommend them over any franchise store such as Lowe's and Home Depot. If I could give a negative rating, I would! The WORST place to purchase appliances. I purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine because they gave the best price and delivery date. Delivery was to be on a Tuesday and the delivery people were late showing up. Paid for installation and they didn't even level the machine, but when we turned it on, it made a noise as if you were inside a jet engine. Called and was told that they couldn't get the service person out for a while and when I pitched a fit, they said he could come on Thursday of the same week. Guy was to come at 11 on Thursday and called at 9:30 to say his car broke and couldn't make it (nice huh, since some people do have jobs) and he could come on Friday. I had to call the store and speak with Dottie in the Service Department who just said "well, his car broke down". Apparently, they only have one service person and he doesn't even work for the store as he is an independent contractor. Had to argue with Dottie to get a second machine ordered so that I wouldn't wait yet another week. Was able to get a machine ordered and was to be delivered on Friday of the same week. Spoke with Jack, who apparently is the owner and he was more than apologetic. Told me that they would test the machine before bringing it out and that the delivery people would wait to make sure it didn't have an issue and he also doubled the warranty, making it 8 years. The delivery people came, machine was never tested as they had to unpack it from the original box and it still had all the packing materials in and around it. After the guys set it up, they started it and it made a horrific noise. The delivery guys said "oh, that doesn't sound good", laughed and left, leaving yet another bad washing machine. The deliver guys also said that if they have to come and take this machine out, we should get a different one. Had to call and argue with the store about coming out and getting the machine. They finally agreed to give back the money and take the machine. Upon coming and taking the machine, the delivery guys broke the washing machine basin which is attached to the drain at my house making it necessary for us to purchase another basin for $30 and having to get a plumber out since the basin was attached to the drain. In the end, the $700 that I paid for the washing machine from hell actually ended up costing me $850 with the additional cost of the basin and plumber. This is the worst store ever. The people are totally clueless and even the manufacturer said that they probably dropped the machines when they unloaded them. Don't get sucked into this store for the low prices as it will cost more in the end. As a follow-up to this review, almost a week after they picked up the machine and had to make yet another call to this horrible place, I was told the refund was put through and in fact, no refund has been made. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, which did catch the attention of the store, but I will have to make yet another call about the refund. The whole situation left a bad taste in my mouth and I would stay far, far away from this place. Was told that they are notorious for doing this stuff. read more

I have never purchased an appliance at hallocks until Dec 2014, and I was VERY reserved about doing so...... We needed a washer and had shopped around a lot, money was a factor and I was willing to go cheap, but the sales lady showed us the Maytag Bravo XL and all its features and I googled the reviews, it met our needs and the price was GREAT. I love the machine and everything the sales woman said was true! The delivery came on time and the men were very helpful with install and questions. Very disappointed at the dishonesty of the salesman who told us that the installation fee was included in the 169.00 fee we paid for delivery,removal and installation...when we got our delivery the installer told us there was an additional 75.00 fee because the Bosch dishwasher now requires a plug instead of hardwired like our old model. this involved drilling holes in our cabinetry and new plugs installed under our sink that we aren't thrilled about. .The salesperson was very deceptive in not telling us about this (and he he really should have known). ten years ago we bought our slide-in range,dishwasher and range hood from this store spending thousands of dollars at that point..however we are very disappointed with hallocks after this experience and won't be doing any more business with this company. Honesty is very important to us and the salespeople here are no longer worthy of our trust. they also couldn't have been any less helpful in helping us arrange for the 50.00 rebate that we are entitled to but don't have the foggiest idea of how to process online. read more

Hands down one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Spent $8,000 on a fridge and paid for install and delivery. My husband and I took the day off for the install and waited and waited. Finally, we received a phone call that the truck that was delivering the fridge broke down and we would not be getting the fridge on the day we were promised. Now, I understand things happen but my husband now needs to take yet another day off and I was told that my request for delivery compensation was extravagant and they would be happy to send me a $50 check. Talk about a slap in the face. Need I mention my husband and I also own apartment buildings and have furnished it with Hallock's aplliances?! My family has purchased appliances from Hallock's for generations. So it was a no brainer for my 92 year old grandmother to go to them when she needed a new washing machine in February 2015. At the time of delivery, Hallock's 3rd party delivery company did not hook up the washer to the drain. The delivery man was glib and even suggested her husband take care of it. Really? (1) if he was alive don't you think he would have been there and (2) are you suggesting a 90+ year old complete your job? Luckily my grandmother's neighbor spent less than 20min completing the setup. When Hallock's was made aware of the poor and incomplete service they acknowledged the hook up service was free but they were not concerned about the situation. Poor form Hallock's! I recently purchased a dishwasher and stove from Halleck's and arranged for delivery. I was given a four hour window and took the day off from work. At 6pm an hour after the four hour window had elapsed I was given a call telling me that the delivery was going to be at least an hour late. The four hour window was now a minimum of six. I am a salesman and make appointments to visit customers. If I am going to be late I know well in advance. I call the customer apologize for the inconvenience long before I show up late and reschedule if necessary. My customer comes first. Halleck's does not believe in this. I had a business appointment and was not going to be available because I did not want to make my client wait. The following business day I waited for a follow up call from Halleck's. Thought that was the professional thing to do. No call from Halleck's. I called them rescheduled the delivery and was very polite on the phone. Guess what took another day off from work and Halleck's was a no show with no phone call. Again waited for a follow up call from Halleck's. The call never came. I called them again, this time not so polite. I spoke to Tom Horton, the dispatcher. He is in the wrong job. He did not know where his truck was when it was supposed to be making a delivery to me and could not tell me if a call was made to me or not. He took absolutely no responsibility for the screw up and did not care that I took two days off from work. His supervisor was no better. Five days later I am still waiting for the salesman to call me back. If this is the kind of people they hire and the incompetence shown by the staff from top to bottom why would anyone return to Halleck's? read more

I purchased a washer and dryer from Hallock's a month ago. I prefer to patronize family-owned businesses versus "big box" stores any time I have the choice to do so, and selected Hallock's based on word-of-mouth referral from three co-workers. Hallock's did not disappoint. I will offer that I am one of those finicky types who does advance research and planning, so I mostly needed help placing an order versus help shopping and deciding. I knew what I wanted when I arrived, had done my product research and checked Consumer Reports and reviews, had completed price comparisons online, and found that Hallock's had a competitive price for what I wanted. Sure, I may have paid $40 or so more (total) than if I had gone "big box" but I know for certain I received better quality service and attention at Hallock's than any experience I have had elsewhere. I visited the store on a weeknight, and was in and out in less than 20 minutes (and this was even after the salesman showed me an upgraded model choice for the same price, which I appreciated). He found a delivery window that fit my schedule, and the only hiccup that kept my review from five stars is that they were about a half hour late from the selected window, and I had to call to make sure they had not forgotten me. But they hadn't - just running late and hadn't called. Hallock's customer service team tracked them down and got me an update very quickly! When they arrived, installation was smooth and swift, so the brief delay wasn't a big deal. I'll definitely visit Hallock's again and refer them to others. read more

Overall, they were fine to deal with, but it really depends on who you get on the phone. I needed an oven/microwave unit installed on a house that I don't live in (I live out of state) and Cathy followed through and we got it done. But if I called and she wasn't available people on phone were impatient, weren't very knowledgeable, and generally wanted to get me off the phone as soon as possible. When I went to the house and saw the oven it had the sticky residue of the energy star sticker. It wasn't something that looked like it would come off easily. When I called to see if someone could take care of this I was told Goo Be Gone or WD 40 would take care of it and that is what they use to clean their appliances. Well, living out of state I will have to buy the product, drive 2 hours and basically do it myself. I just wondered why they didn't clean it off properly in the first place. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, hence not a full 5 star rating. read more

I have to say that shopping at Hallock's outlet in West Haven CT was a very pleasant experience. I recently purchased a washer and dryer here. Customer service was just wonderful. They matched our lowest prices with no problem at all. I have to give a special thank you to their delivery guys because they did an amazing job from delivering to installing and picking up old appliances and to make it even better, the whole process was FREE. Worst experience ever. I will never deal with Hallocks again. Bought a dryer and an oven. First the oven...it arrived with a broken knob. Had to send back. Waited a week for a new model. It arrived with an incorrect part. Had to wait several hours for correct part. Now the dryer ...salesman never told us we had to have a plumber do a connection to allow the steam function to work. When plumber arrived, the part that came with the dryer was the wrong one. Had to wait another week for another plumber. He was supposed to arrive today between 1pm - 6pm. It's now 6:15 and he's still not here. A Saturday afternoon wasted waiting for a plumber because of hallocks incompetence. I will never, never, never, ever shop at this place again. read more

I am impressed with Hallock's customer service and quick response. During the holidays my 30 year old freezer stopped working and when I called Hallocks they were at my door within 1 hour, replaced the freezer, removed the old freezer. Went to Hallocks even when I had an issue last time with a fridge. Paid full price and waited for ordered fridge which I received without 2 of the plastic door shelves requiring another trip to store to take from floor model. Went back a few months later to replace our stove hoping to find a good deal, no luck ordered new one waited days waited for delivery only to received a dented one (BIG) which I refused of course. I called store and they wanted to credit me for the dent which I also turned down which of course they didn't like. At this point no offer was made to reorder the stove so my wife asked for a refund to her card which they claim would take a week. (really?) Never ever would I do anything with Hallocks again. They mess up and didn't take any actions to fix the situation other than try to off load the dented unit on me. Hear me loud and clear go somewhere else and just use them to get your best price at the big box store.
