Art's Television & Appliance: A Masterclass in Incompetence and Disregard Let me preface this by saying, if you enjoy being strung along for weeks, paying for their mistakes, and having your concerns dismissed with a casual "yeah, yeah," then Art's Television & Appliance at 92 State Street, North Haven, is the place for you. My ordeal began on February 13, 2025. My air conditioning/heat unit knob broke. The manager, to his credit, spent 45 minutes trying to find a replacement part online. When that failed, we discussed a Friedrich PTAC unit. He wasn't sure of the fit, so he scheduled an appointment for his installers to check my condo on February 22nd. Then, Bill Bower, the salesman, decided he knew better. He canceled the appointment, claiming the PTAC would fit because they'd sold others in my complex. I paid $1,170 for the unit, which was installed on March 1st. The installers then informed me I needed a duct adapter for the adjacent bedroom. They claimed they ordered it, but Bill was clueless. Another trip to the store, another $478, and a $300 installation fee for their error. I emphasized the urgency; a newborn lives in that room. Bill promised "rush shipment, a week." March 8th: No part. "Another week," they said, rushing me off the phone. March 15th: Same story. "Yeah, yeah," Bill said, dismissing my concerns about the baby. April 1st: A different rep said it shipped via truck, not tractor trailer, adding another week or two. Bill then called, reminding me of the $300 installation fee. It's April 3rd, 2025. SEVEN WEEKS. I started this process in winter, and I'm still without the part. They haven't offered to waive the installation fee, despite their blatant incompetence. They don't care that a newborn is living in a cold room. They don't care about customer service. They don't care that they cancelled the 2/22/25 appointment that would have prevented this whole mess. To recap: they canceled my appointment, forcing me to pay for an additional installation fee, they have lied about shipping times, they have dismissed my concerns about a newborn child, and they have shown zero remorse. I'm a resident in the complex and I will be sure to inform the board meetings about this horrendous customer service. Avoid Art's Television & Appliance at all costs. i bought a refrigerator from Art's about 15 years ago and it was a great experience. that refrigerator just died, so I went back.... Never again! staff was rude, not helpful, and recommended that i had an assessor come out to double check my measurements ( as if i couldn't possibly know how to read a tape measure- ) that assessor never made it to the appointment and even thought it was ok to yell at me over the phone, not once but twice! if they offer for Sean to come to your house, politely decline unless you enjoy verbal abuse. never again........ read more

My fridge just died and I needed a replacement quickly. It gave me more than 20 years of good service so I wanted the same style and brand. I checked around and everyone had sales going on, even the manufacturer and the prices only differed by a few dollars. I called the big box stores and was told the wait for delivery would be two weeks, I called the smaller stores and was told about the same, 10-14 days; a co-worker suggested Art's, so I stopped by. Art's had the fridge I wanted on display at the same sale price I had seen elsewhere. They agreed to a three day delivery and removal of my old fridge, for which I believe I paid a small fee. They offered to hook up the ice maker for a few that I thought was too high, so I passed on it. On delivery day the two man crew was on time and efficient, but a bit clumsy. The screen door got stuck open, the dolly gouged the screen door and after they left I realized the fridge still had a lot plastic, tape and labels to be peeled off; that took quite awhile because I had plugged it in and the cold seemed to make everything stickier. So I replaced the door closer, touched up the paint and peeled a lot of tape off my new fridge, which I like as much as the one it replaced. read more

Went to Art's to purchase a new microwave after purchasing a washing machine a month earlier. Purchased a new microwave and let them know about some damage from the previous delivery-see pictures below. We did not ask for any reimbursement for the damage-we just simply let them know it took place. Andy, the manager, called me the next day to tell me we were lying and there was no way the damage could have been caused by their hand truck. He told me "he measured the distances from the photo to reason this out." I would have loved to see how he did that from a photo. Needless to say we canceled the order for the new microwave and will never do business here again. It's unfortunate because our 2 previous sales people had been extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Disappointing. I wanted to support small business but should have went to big box store. I purchased a whole kitchen from them and I am not even 100% happy with the appliances, the stove the most. Been waiting 6 months for a freezer top to my fridge to come in since the one delivered had scratches on the stainless. Finally came in, delivery came and showed up with wrong door. I had to take off work for the delivery window. No phone call to say sorry. Haven't even heard from them. Where is the customer service? I would have done better with Home Depot. Do not use this company for your appliance purchase! I can't stress enough how terrible they are. Once they make the sale they will not support you in any way for service. They also do not disclose return policies. In my case, I was doing a reno and they said it would be no problem to store the items in their warehouse. When I had the shipment delivered two months later, one of the items was damaged. However, it could not be returned because it was more than 30 days since the purchase date. At no time did they tell me this could be a problem. I now have to go through a third party repair company and this could take weeks to resolve. delivery date 2/23/2022 - from the first day there were problems. the delivery sell had dent in center drawer on first day. They were a problem dealer arts televisions & appliances north haven CT . The did not respond or replace entire Electrolux .. delivery boys - actually ran out door and left without us accepting the new $4,000 Electrolux. call of resolve were not answered for 2 weeks , Fraud Company - , Hopefully out of business by now. The seem to have delivered a damaged unit in their back room. they always knew it was damaged and dumped in our kitchen & ran. NEVER Purchase anything from these people.. I warned you! 7 months passed and drawer became available. The ice machine crusher failed a week after the warranty period / so we are on cubes. The water filter access for filter change failed leaking December 2024. We now have no ice or water. I am in the process of getting both repaired & or , repair them myself.. Terrible experience from fraud sales people & lac at best response from factory reps. Yet the refrigeration temperature is solid performance, Much better than the Samsung it replaced. the exterior is to thin of my opinion and will not stay dent free if you have and children visiting or on property. When I discussed the situation with Art's Appliances, I received rude and demeaning treatment with a refusal to address the issue, which was of their making. As a long-time customer, (or even a new one), I would expect better customer service. I would not recommend buying from them. read more

Came to Art's on a referral from Chaz and AJ on the radio show looking for a grill for my husband for a Father's Day gift. Went down to the show room a week before Father's Day and met with Mary in the showroom. She was very pleasant and knowledgeable on the products. We pretty much knew what we wanted and we decided pretty quickly on a Weber Spirit grill. Mary told us the grills were on back order but they should be in probably within a week, but with this Covid pandemic that could change. We paid for the grill IN FULL (they did not even offer to just take 50% only like the big sign in front of us said). A week later I hadn't heard anything & called. Mary seemed curt & said they were still on back order and hopefully it would be in the week of July 4th. So July 4th came & went with no response. I called about a week after that & spoke to another lady (very pleasant) who said she would have to check with Mary and have her get back to me with when the grills were expected in because they were still on back order. Mary called back and left a very abrupt message saying that the grills were still on back order and they're hoping to get them by the end of July, hopefully sooner but they'll call when they're in. About a week later, still not hearing anything I called them back again and this time talked to Bill D. He was very sympathetic to us after I explained our situation and how long we've been waiting without a grill. He did his best to accommodate us and told us he would have it delivered to us that coming Saturday. A few days later I get a call from Mary saying the grill will be delivered the following Wednesday. I said I just talked to Bill a few days ago and it's being delivered this Saturday? She quickly became frustrated and said she knew nothing about that, that we are not on the schedule and that she'll have to check with her boss and get right back to me. I then get a call back quickly from Andy who proceeds to tell me that Bill had no right to give me that date and he's going to get a piece of his mind and that now "he has to pull his hair out to get me this delivery"...clearly angry with his employee & now having to meet this promised deadline. He actually made me feel bad like I was putting him out to have to make this delivery. Even though I paid for this grill a month ago and still hadn't received it. But Andy kept his word and the grill was delivered Saturday. My husband loves the grill but I will never do business here again or be able to refer others here. Basically if I knew when I bought the grill that my husband would have to wait over a month, I would have went elsewhere. And I think they know this full well at the time of purchase so they charge you full price and then if you want to cancel they will charge you a restocking fee. So now I'm not sure why Chaz and AJ are openly promoting this business on air on a regular basis? Great prices, and unlike say, Best Buy, they will actually use a reasonably sized truck to deliver your purchase. Mega trucks don't mix with CT driveways in this land of steep hills. I've had several friends cancel their Best Buy orders because their stupid trucks can't accommodate anything but an industrial loading dock. The installation crew was very good. However, they did not read the LG installation instructions and shoved the washer's drain pipe all the way down into the sewer. I will be purchasing a new drain pipe soon because of that unsanitary mistake. The manual says don't shove it down the drainpipe more than 4". Oh, and don't expect repair of what they sell, either. read more

We used Art's a few years ago to buy a bunch of appliances and were pleased with the process. But we had to buy a new oven and used them, and this time not so much. The sales process was fine, but on delivery day the clowns who moved the oven in dropped a grate from the old oven as they were removing it, leaving a large gouge in our wooden floor. Art's said they would cover the repairs, but I've spent weeks trying to get someone in for such a small job to no avail. Who has time for that garbage? While I appreciate them trying to make it right, go somewhere else where hopefully the delivery people will have more care. read more

I used to work for Andy. He took me in on a favor for my uncle / needing "back up" help because his son's child hood friend/previous employee was a 50:50. he said he was coming but never showed up ordeal. Anyways after getting the invitation to join, he so happened to come the same exact day.. So I went from 700-800$ delivering appliances. 5x days a week to 400$-500$ being dust boy/ the store helper, 1 hour on the property I got demoted lol. Whatever, I was grateful for the opportunity. Could of said sorry we messed up && told me we'll call you if position opens... Andy was cool. Italian guy, I respected his hustle and kind of looked at him as a role model... despite his Bursts of anger periodically lol he was cool. The only bad thing I can say about Andy is he did some unethical fair business practices to me. I'm a hard worker, I love to learn and whatever I'm doing, do it right. Do things in Integrity.. I never called out, complained, gave everyone respect && really had no bad "reviews".... I even took a side job building a wall on the property. Long story short.... The same "family friend" we'll call him. I won't name names, we got hired the same day. Out of 300 days I might of missed 1. "Family friend" on the other hand.. missed 30/300 days for unnatural disasters we will call it... I literally missed one day and this guy fired me. I whole heartily believe that was his golden moment to capitalize on saving 10,000$ because he promised us end of the 4th Quarter whatever he profited he would give us each 10%.... Mind you this firing happened weeks before the 4th Quarter was going to end. It's the peak of Covid at the time.. people are paying upfront and everything is on back order. He had a forecasted number in his head & capitalized on the opportunity... This story is just to give u a perspective on who your dealing with incase your second guessing your self about him. It happens to us all, I noticed some water on the floor in front of my much loved Frigidaire side by side, when I opened the door it was running, but defrosted, after 22 years I couldn't complain. Fortunately, it was the first week of July and there were sales everywhere. I looked online and found a replacement side by side with ice and water through the door, the sale price, $1,249 for a counter depth was good, I paid $1,100 for the one it was replacing. The price was about the same everywhere I checked, but there was a 2-3 week wait for delivery. A friend at work suggested Art's, so I gave them a call. They had the fridge I wanted in stock for the price I saw online, so I drove over to take a look. Art's looks like a hole in the wall, but it's larger inside and packed full of appliances. I looked around a bit, found the fridge I wanted and compared it to others. A salesman walked up, answered my questions and told me there was a two week wait for delivery. I asked if I could get it sooner and he was able to schedule delivery in a few days as well as removing my old one. I was also quoted $170 to put in a new connection for the ice maker, which I declined. On delivery day they gave me a 30 minute notice and were right on time and done in about 15 minutes. It took me a while to strip away all the plastic, tape and labels but I'm happy with my purchase and would buy from them again. read more

My 26 inch wall oven microwave combo was old and not performing well. Since 26inch ovens are not made anymore, I looked for a 27inch oven. I went to Art;s and talked to a salesman. I was concerned about how a 27 inch oven could fit into the space of a 26inch oven. Instead of sending someone to my house to measure the oven space in my kitchen he gave me a form and instructions on how to measure. The alarm bells went off in my head but I decided to give it a try. After giving it my best effort to understand the form and measure the space, I called the store and said that I thought it would fit. The oven was ordered and weeks later the installers came with the oven to my house. They first measured the space and then told me it would not fit. They also said that they would have come out to measure the space themselves because they do it often.They took the oven back to the store but I received no phone calls from the store. I called and was told I would receive my money back minus the charge for returns. I was never told about this charge when I signed the contract. So I paid hundreds of dollars while receiving no oven. This review is long overdue!. Only reason we went there is because we bought our old frig 30 years ago when Art owned it. Could of and should have gone elsewhere. The purchasing process was easy. Delivery was ok. Guys were quick, seemed rushed and unfriendly. They never leveled it so doors didn't shut correctly. Called and problem was remedied. That night the logo badge fell off. Went back the next day. Told the nasty bad attitude owner about delivery guys and badge. Very rude and aggressive. He actually said we could have spent more money!! Imagine that!! Why did he let us buy that one then. If it wasn't a hassle I would have returned it. He got very close to me trying to provoke me. Lucky I kept my cool. Next time you need an appliance and are tempted to go to a big box store, my advice? Don't. Just don't. I bought a washer/dryer at a big box store and the whole experience was my worst nightmare: no-shows on delivery day. Twice. Crappy installation service. Zero apologies. As a result, when we needed several kitchen appliances, I sought out another option and stumbled onto Art's. The experience was a dream from start to finish. Great selection, totally competitive prices, prompt delivery and installation, and absolutely outstanding service. I live in an older house so I get it--sometimes you run into weird fit or electrical issues. When the first dishwasher I chose couldn't be installed because of some construction/electrical issues, Art's swapped it out for a slightly pricier Kitchenaid machine. No penalty, no problem. They also installed a new stove, range hood and microwave in an admiral dance of separate delivery and installation guys. Seriously, this is a great little company. They have a couple of locations, so check them out. And as for the big box stores? Just run from them as fast as you can. Thanks, Art's! read more

Worst place ever. I came in with a friend, and the owner, Andy, was the rudest, most unprofessional person I've met. Not only was he disrespectful to his customers, but also his employees. Although I did see how terrible the reviews were, I thought I'd give it a shot and try the place out myself. Lesson learned - listen to the reviews. No stars really. Ordered a dryer on 7/22/20, it was delivered on 9/9/20, 10:20am. Making a loud, banging noise. Called Art's on 9/10, 2:50pm. Told someone would be contacting me about a service call. Didn't hear back, called again on 9/11, 1:51pm. Told by Patty we'd have to contact manufacturer. We asked for a replacement since the one we received was defective, and paid for a new dryer. Given the run around. They sent out their service people on 9/15, couldn't repair. Spoke with Mike the manager asking for a replacement and he basically said we were on our own with manufacturer. I bought a washing machine and small counter ice maker. The ice maker did not work and when I went back to speak to them- they were completely dismissive rude and disinterested. I ordered a refrigerator from Art's after a positive recommendation from my in-laws. The over-the-phone ordering process was easy (they even agreed to price match Best Buy's sale price), and they gave me a guaranteed delivery date of Friday, June 22nd. Initially I was very pleased. I was told that I would get a phone call the day before with my delivery window. That call never came, but I received a call the next morning (the day that it was to be delivered) from Art's stating that my fridge was still on back order and that they didn't know when it would be in - "maybe next week" was what I was told. I was rightfully upset that they waited until the day that the fridge was scheduled for delivery to tell me this. At this point I had already been without a fridge for 2 weeks. Later that same day, I called Art's back to cancel my order, as I ordered another fridge from another company instead. The response from the woman at Art's was that they were going to charge me a 15% restocking fee. A restocking fee for a fridge that they didn't even have! On an order that they failed to deliver on time and couldn't even tell me when the new delivery date would be! After politely asserting myself to the saleswoman, I was told that I would get a phone call the following morning after she consulted with the manager about whether or not they would charge me the restocking fee. Luckily, they did the right thing and refunded the full amount to my credit card. I still, however, cannot give them more than 1 star because it should never have escalated to that point in the first place. I cannot recommend this place. read more

After a month of dealing with a refrigerator that was delivered damaged, and several visits from a repair service, we got a repair person to replace the seals on the doors. The repair lasted two weeks before the freezer started to freeze up, and running constantly, the refrigerator section no longer kept things cold! It's been over a month, and the refrigerator is still not working.!! Called repair people again, two weeks before they can come back !!! Then what? More parts? It continues!! $750 for a refrigerator that has been broken from the beginning and Arts TV and Appliance KNEW THIS when they sold it!!! Don't buy anything from this store EVER!!!!!!! We went to Art's for a new fridge and dishwasher. They knew the products SO much better than the folks at the big box stores and chains. They were personable, really nice, and even better, after we shopped around to get the best price, they matched the big box prices. So you can feel like you're buying an appliance from your neighbor, someone you actually like, instead of from a used car salesman. The delivery and install people were super nice, on time, polite. Went in looking for a new refrigerator, out of necessity ours is leaking Freon. Both my husband and I are immune compromised given the corona issue we both wore masks and explained that when we walked in. The woman smirked said well I am too. She backed away , went looked up the specs on a unit we were interested in . Practically threw the spec paper at us and told us to go home re-measure and call us if we were interested. Even in this day and age of business indifference to customer service, Art's has set a new level for rudeness and incompetency, displaying absolutely zero interest in helping us select major appliances for our home. Within 3 minutes, the woman assigned to assist us gave off a vibe that had me looking sideways to my wife with a look of concern. Brusk would be a polite adjective for her attitude. But when she tried to upsell us on a double oven because the less expensive choice was "ugly," I knew we may be in trouble. I commented to her directly that such a method was not productive. I decided to step away and allow my wife to be the primary customer. All I heard were admonishes that pricing couldn't be guaranteed past very short windows, that we had unusual needs, and the attitude deteriorated when asked questions she couldn't be bothered with. And the owner was sitting there all the time, so this must be how they communicate to their customers. We were basically thrown out of the store saying "we should go someplace else." Well, we did. About 3 miles away is a PC Richards, and, what a surprise, we were greeted eagerly and treated with courtesy and respect. They tackled all our questions, worked diligently to meet some quirky installation concerns, presented model differences, made intelligent suggestions, all the things Art's apparently don't know how to do, and don't care to give their customers. We bought a double oven, a cook top, and a washer and dryer for less money and no installation fees. By all reckoning, we saved over $1,000 and had a pleasant customer experience. So, thank you Art's for your pathetic attitude, uncaring, toady demeanor, and shockingly poor respect for a customer who didn't come in to kick the tires, but was ready to spend thousands of dollars, you did us a favor. read more

I went to Arts on May 30th to look at an entire kitchen package. I was told that some of the items were not there but they were already on backorder. Less than 48 hrs later I called to cancel the order due to unforeseen problems. The saleswoman was rude and informed me that they would refund to my credit card minus the 15% restocking fee. The appliances were not even in the store yet. I called my bank who said hopefully they would do the right thing. Well unfortunately they did not. They withheld over 500.00. I always read reviews before I purchase but screwed up this time....because if I had there was no way I would have purchased a dryer from Art's. However, if you like dealing with a business who: sends an installation crew who is not experienced and tells you to "just shim it up" when your condensation collection box is hanging in the air 2" off the garage floor, rushes you off the phone when you call to say your brand new dryer is "red hot" when operating and tells you "it's made to operate on high heat", talks over you when you again call to say that your laundry room is hot and humid when your dryer is working (kind of like a rainforest), DEMANDS to know the name of the service technician who said your vent pipe was cracked after a service call to "fix" your new dryer for something else, and then refuses to provide "decent" customer service by coming to see the installation job which resulted in damage to the vent pipe, says they will repair the vent pipe out of a "courtesy" even though it was caused by "customer abuse", then please go to Art's today and purchase a major appliance. This had to be the absolute worst major appliance purchase experience ever. Shoddy installation, poor customer service, being accused of abusing my own dryer hook-up, and having to speak with a representative of the company on several occasions who has not learned to take turns and let others speak. I honestly don't know how this place stays in business. Mike is the guy to ask for if you want the same experience I had and I bet you will be as lucky as I was because he won't share you with the owner.... no matter how many times you ask. I decided that we would shop for a new refrigerator at an independent appliance dealer rather than the big box stores, figuring that we would get a higher level of personal service. We purchased a Fisher Paykel unit at Art's TV & Appliance in North Haven, CT. During delivery I noticed that there were dents in the freezer door and a scratch on the side panel! After a new door was installed 2 months later, the refrigerator immediately stopped working. I was told by the Art's employee that installed the door to contact Kevin, who sold us the refrigerator. We requested, during several calls over the next 48 hours, including with Mike, the store manager, that Art's should simply return with the original door so that we would have a working refrigerator - Art's declined to do this. Three plus weeks later, we still do not have a working refrigerator. Art's has been of little help in resolving the issue and declared that they have no responsibility in compensating us or providing us with a temporary solution. Bottom line - Art's has shown no interest in providing any level of personal service.  My advice - believe the other negative reviews about Art's - and accept that you will not get any help if you have issues with a new appliance. I'm sure that we would have received more help from any of the big box stores and paid less. (One star only because Yelp won't post a review with 0 stars.) read more

I went in to the store knowing what I wanted and knew it had to be ordered. The salesman was friendly and polite. I was told I would get my new stove in 10 days, well 25 days came and went with no word of my stove. I called the store to find out when it would be in, I was informed that my stove came in damaged and had to be re-ordered. Well that was fine but I couldn't even get a phone call notifying me!!!! No apologies or anything. So another few weeks goes by and my husband calls and is told that the stove will be delivered on Dec 24. It arrived smashed in pieces again no apologies from the store. I canceled my order and went to best buy and bought a stove for cheaper and I had it in 10 days! I know it wasn't there fault the stove came damaged twice but not even an apology!!!! Will never go back to this place and would not recommend. read more

I recently purchased a name-brand A/C from Art's w/free installation. My neighbor had had the exact same unit installed with no problems. Additionally, getting the installation was important to me, because I wasn't strong enough to do it myself. Their installation was terrible--they left big gaps in the wall, and the unit was even leveled wrong so water didn't drain out from it (mildew anyone?!). Art's refused to correct the problems. I then went to the store (with photos) and showed the manager, but he wouldn't even listen. I eventually had to pay a 3rd party to properly install and level the A/C. I registered a complaint with the BBB, but Art's still refuses to acknowledge the problems they created. Buyer beware!! read more

I've been a customer for 20 years, bought all appliances at Arts. Recently bought a refrigerator which did not work properly. After 3 different service appointments they are finally replacing it. They acted like they were doing me a favor for replacing a defective new appliance. I like to use local businesses, but after this experience, I will no longer be an Arts customer. Another person I know bought a refrigerator at arts.
