We got none of it the first red flag should've been market price for prime rib which you can get over down at the outback for 30 bucks this place charge 40 bucks for a very, tasteless piece of meat that was fatty had no meat asked for mashed potatoes. Got a scoop of something cold dry looking like perhaps it came out of a box the waitress we asked her for an in cut. She just blew right past that question. The meat was not cooked the way we wanted it. I wanted mine rare Hertz well done they were all the same place a favor. Stopped on while driving through the area. Overall, Hall's had decent food, but horribly slow service, the price relatively high compared to quality. Ambiance was good though. We went to Hall's on a Sunday, had no wait for a table, but when we were at the table the problems started. Very long lags between visits by our waitress. The place wasn't very busy, most tables were empty too. Other tables came after us and got their food before us (same entrees too). It took 1 hour to get our entrees and by that time our waitress had disappeared and we were grabbing any waitress we saw. Never got drink refills. Even then it took a while to get our check, had to ask 3 different waitresses. Food was good but not great. Quality similar to a Bob Evans overall. read more

Ashley, our server was the "cherry on top" of an exceptional experience. Everything was on point; impressed by the location in the Kentucky hills and on the river, aesthetic of the buildings to fit in with the surroundings, wide array of menu items specializing in traditional southern charm, and feeling like a friend of the family as hosted by Ashley w tips about Halls menu, and the local area in general. Hall's has a nice atmosphere in the summer, if you like outdoor patios, with the river running below. My most recent visit was during the winter, though, and it's really not much to write home about if you're just visiting for the food. I ordered Hall's burger with sweet potato fries. My fries came out luke warm, and the burger was just a frozen formed patty. It was one of the most average burgers I've ever had. A&W is much better honestly. Others at my table ordered the catfish dinner, and the fried banana rings. Now the banana rings were pretty tasty, except for the cocktail sauce that accompanied them (???). My dining companions said the catfish was decent. I would opt to order it blackened, instead of fried. The coleslaw was not fresh, and we were charged extra for picking a different side item, which was not stated on the menu or by the waitress. Overall we felt like the food wasn't good enough to make the drive from Lexington. read more

Been coming here since I was a little girl. One of my granny's favorites. She ALWAYS gets the frog legs. I got ribs here and I'm not joking when everyone at the table wanted some. Soooo tender and delicious. I NEVER get ribs. We had a huge group of ppl the service was great and they were busy. Food hot and delicious. I remember when the beer cheese was free. But I'm still glad to come and support a great staple restaurant of Kentucky. They have a nice deck to sit on during warm weather. While in Winchester on a business trip I stopped in at Hall's on the River. It was quite busy on a Tuesday night but the staff handled it phenomenally. I sat at the bar and even though the bartender was slammed, she made a point to let me know that she knew what I wanted and was working on it. Once I got my food, it was outstanding as well. I recommend this place to anyone who likes good food and a great atmosphere. The people of Winchester are lucky to have this hidden treasure. read more

Have heard nothing but good things about this place we decide to come eat here tonight a few hours before they close. They were not busy at all a few tables there and food being brought out. The host was very short and told us the kitchen was closed in two minutes two hours before there hours of operation said they were open until. Just really unprofessional especially when you drive 45 minutes to eat somewhere and they close the kitchen early. read more

If this place wasn't 30mins away from me I'd visit more often as I've had my fair share of chicken and waffles in KY and these were pretty dang amazing. The chicken was tender and juicy and wasn't too overly breaded or dry and the waffle had the crisp crunch appearance holding up to that downpour of syrup. We also decided to get an appetizer and went for the crab cakes and it was a home-run after the first bite being very far from the coast it's difficult to find a restaurant with decent seafood options as the most commonly offered happens to be shrimp or your typical fried fish. The menu looked great, HH & game day specials are a good deal for next time. To start, ordered the FRIED GREEN TOMATOES, delish! Nicely battered for the wonderful thick & firm tomatoes. I could hardly taste the bacon crumbles so omit that & add extra sauce next time. Cody our server, wasn't fond of the Shrimp Po'boy or Pork Quesadilla so I asked what his fav's were & ordered them. Both excellent!! The ' HELLBENDER' a House-Smoked pulled pork w/ bacon & white cheddar. I never got the Cole slaw that was supposed to be in it. Also I wasn't asked what sauce I wanted so got the bbq, which was delish! I highly recommend it. The fries sucked so next time would ask for a different side. I've been eating here since a kid! My grandfather's farm is right up the river and our family cemetery is just off the river down in Howard's Creek. I was born and raised in Florida but visited Winchester a few times a year growing up. I took my kids here back in 2015 and they absolutely loved it too! Winchester has so much character with great history and Hall's fit perfectly into the storyline. The food here as as comfortable as you could ask for and the atmosphere is terrific! I visit every trip I take to Winchester and can't wait to get back! Excellent restaurant! read more

An appetizer of fried green tomatoes, Carol then had a hot brown which was one of the best I have tasted in years, and I had lamb fries in gravy... as good or better than I remember! Food was average on 3 people and the other was unedible. I know it is a seafood place but I wanted prime rib. Couldnt even cut it. Waitress said it was a problem all night. Why in the world would they not take off menu and feed it to their dog. I was there to celebrate 30 year anniversary snd they must think we are stupid. In 60s and seventys the food was pretty good.
