I came here with my girl on a Sunday afternoon to try out their bo ssam. I've had bo ssam at other places, but never at this place. Since bo ssam is in their name, I assumed it would be super delicious. The server lady brought out some menu's and barley tea. After a short while, she took our order and then brought out some banchan(Korean side dishes). We didn't have any silverware so I had to grab some off another table. The banchan was great! They were all well-seasoned and delicious! After about 30 minutes, the bo ssam came out. The dish looked great and I couldn't wait to try it out! After inspecting the dish a bit, I noticed that it didn't include oysters as it traditionally does, and as the menu also stated. I called the server lady over and asked her if there were oysters in the dish, and she bluntly said "No" and left it at that. Hmmmm.... Anyways, I wasn't in the mood to argue since I was hungry and just wanted to get to eating. The bo ssam was pretty good, but it would have been much better with the oysters included. Anyways, I would probably not come back here unless I wanted to try out some of their soups. The bo ssam wasn't really worth it without the raw oysters. read more

The bossam here was really good. The pork wasn't overly fatty and the radish wasn't overly sweet and had just the right amount of twang to it. We got the last few orders of bossam as they told the people who came after us they ran out! It was 730 pm on a Friday night! So make sure you call ahead to make sure they have it in stock! read more

Usually go there to get take out. The lunch special is really cheap. I usually get the soon dubu or the Yookejang

I would've given 5 stars cos the food was amazing, but they did not allow us to take home our left overs despite there being takeout containers at the register and it states here that they do takeouts. He suggested we "go to H-mart and buy our own food, they sell the same thing" after asking. read more

i don't know, maybe i am little biased when it comes down to pork belliy. yummy chewy fatty gooey dellicious pork meat with melt in your mouth fat still attached to it. so if you are not korean, or not used to bossam meal, its basically pork meat, picked kimchi/raddish and other vegetables and side dishes, and you basically wrap your meat inside lettuce or watever vege they give you with whatever you think will form a good combination. makgeoli fits perfectly with bossam meal. just saying. read more

Immediately was mistaken for Korean when I walked through the door and was handed a korean menu. But not to fear, there are also English menus. Not sure why it has four dollar sign but things here are quite decently priced! Soups are around $8-9 for dinner and even cheaper for lunch. Fair assortment of kimchi dishes but saltier than other places. I Got the pork bone soup with potatoes when I came and it was huge with 6 or 7 pork bones and a potato. It was a bit too salty for my taste. Ended up eating more bones than soup. The server didn't bring us napkins or water until we asked. I wouldn't say this place is terrible but definitely not among the best. Maybe I'll need to give it another try. read more

It's my second time here. The second time was very disappointing. Tofu soup lacked flavor! Barely any seafood. It's a bowl of water and zucchini with tofu. Service is bad if you don't speak Korean. I didn't get any refills of tea. read more

Out of all the Korean Restaurants I have eaten at, this one is truly the best in terms of quality and taste. I usually grade a Korean restaurant on how good their Kimchee Gigae is and they really throw in many ingredients where other Korean restaurants try to skimp so they can be more profitable. Also ate Bibim Bop which also was very very good. The other thing I really like is the consistency and quality of food and service. read more

hal mae has the best stir fried squid around! Spicy..check! veggies CRUNCHY...check! and alot of squid? check! The soups are ok.. the side dishes are ok.. but seriously the ojinguh bokkum... will leave you breathless! The food can take FOREVERRRRRRRRRR... which means a very very long time... but its all worth it after the wait... Of course this is a korean establishment so I wont mention the service.. ;) definitely try it out if you are in the area! read more

The food is really good. Especially, the Bossam. But the service is terrible. 1. We ordered two dish and one of them came 30 mins after we were done the first one. 2. They messed up our order. And didn't even bring the whole thing. Because they didn't thaw the oyster earlier. Yet, they never apologized. Never come here and expect a good service. read more

I love to go to Hal Mae Bossam with my whole family for lunch and dinner. It has home style food. You even get a choice between white and mixed rice. The Bossam is excellent and I along like Man Du Gook it's a dumpling soup. read more

Worst.dining.experience.ever! First off, as several people said..the service was AWFUL! Preferential service given to those of Korean descent, which we are not. When we arrived, the waitress didn't bother to give us all menus, so we had to ask. The food was literally dumped on our table, no explanation of foods whatsoever. We asked for a few moments to review the menu, only to be met with "you done yet?" The food - sucked! I've eaten better. Overpriced bland crap and we will never, ever EVER be back again. Train your staff to be better at waiting tables, explain menus and not just walk away when we have questions about the menu. Don't even get me started on how sick I felt after eating there. The foods that we were served with were good, but not exceptional in their Korean cuisine. We've been to better Korean restaurants, and this was just small and basic but was overpriced. The service was very slow, and the staff were indifferent. We even needed to make physical efforts from the moment we stepped inside up to the time that we had to bill out just to catch their attention. How we just wanted to mark our foreheads with signs saying "I'M YOUR CUSTOMER". I wasn't sure if it was a language or culture barrier, but being hospitable is being learned by every human being regardless of race especially if someone would be in the food business. oh my god. I had the worst experience at this little Korean restaurant.. OK. I don't want to talk about all the details but I had to argue with a waitress in front of my family.. Briefly speaking, I ordered things and she looked at me like I was crazy only because they did not have those which are still on the menu??? And then she just left us after i said but those are still on the menu and that's why I tried to order (I meant why you look at me that way?) and then complained to her Co worker so we could hear even without asking what other ones we want to order instead) I couldn't believe how rude she was. So I complained to her directly at first and she was totally being tough and rude. the issue was her rude behavior but she kept saying what do you want me to do? We don't have it!!! ( she must be dumb too) And then I complained to their owner and she looked like she was going to hit me....... This is just ridiculous that a waitress treat a customer like shit and she totally fights about it? Wow. she is just amazing. Just out of control. I know Korean restaurants have bad service. I know that. I never expect good service at any Korean restaurants. But this is just bizarre. I have been to restaurants in the states probably over 2,000 times. Im a korean korean (as opposed to korean american) and i love their food. Very traditional and authentic. Maybe the atmosphere isnt that great but i dont care. My favorite is oyster bossam (pork belly). read more

I've grown up around the area. My family and I go here as a go-to place. It's pretty mediocre, in regards of the banchan sizes and services. Luckily, if you speak Korean you usually are able to get the servers' attention rather quickly. The foods pretty good in comparison to a lot of a lot of Korean restaurants in the area. If you don't speak Korean, it not at problem at all, just be patient and the servers may come to you after a couple of minutes! The server understands and will get on it. Not a whole lot of seating. I would go back here whenever I'm in town! read more

I love this restaurant! Though the service isn't that great.. (most Korean restaurants are like that anyway..) This place has the best bossam! The oysters are sometimes not as fresh as I want them to be, but the meat is always up to par. I really haven't had anything other than bossam there, so I'm not sure of the other foods there, but if you are in the area.. Go there to get a good plate of bossam. read more

the quality of this restaurant has... just nosedived. for a korean restaurant to not even include banchan (side-dishes) despite ordering 5 dishes is beyond excusable. and, their bread-and-butter pork and napa cabbages... the ratio of meat to cabbage was 3 to 1, where it should be more like 2 to 3. the oyster-infused sauce for the pork? nonexistant. avoid at all costs until they get their act together. read more
