She told us they were closing an hour early and we could only get to go, but she clearly didn't want to take our order at all. I had a toddler and baby in my arms and we were starving on our way home from a trip. There were still many other families outside eating. We went out of our way to stop here because my husband and I had past memories of this place. I asked about to go as we were starving, and having a drink while we wait, she said no to a drink and never gave me a menu, in fact she told me of a restaurant up the road in town and suggested we try there instead. I could tell it was a lost cause so we left. It was really strange and pretty upsetting. A truck full of teenagers/ young people pulled up when we left and they were clearly her friends, I saw her greet them with energy she did not have for us and invite them in to come and hang out. we watched them all go inside and stay. Horrible food! The meat tastes like it was boiled in water and then reheated in the microwave. Never have I ever had such DRY under seasoned meat. The potato salad had some al dente potatoes and some mushy ones so it was equally as horrible as the rest of the food. In the hour that we sat at this disgrace of a restaurant we: Watched a waitress tell an elderly couple who had just sat down at a table, that "there wasn't any room for them inside, and they had to leave" It was 90 degrees that day, there were a half a dozen folks standing inside waiting to pay and folks sitting in tables all around, but with zero tact, kindness, or even a slight amount of warmth she told them to leave. Another couple got up and offered their table to the elderly couple and we paid for their meal, trying to at least offer them a band aid of some sort. After waiting more than 20 minutes for our order to be placed, another 15 minutes to receive our drinks, and another 10 minutes to get our oven made ribs minus seasoning, microwaved and delivered to the table, we took a look at the bun of my burger and laughed. Think; the last of the bread you brought to the lake to feed the ducks, after it's been in your car a week. After I showed the young "lady" and I use that term very loosely, my "meal" she let me know that "some people like it". This was after we watched her bully the elderly couple, so we weren't expecting much concern here. I asked the owner to talk with me outside which he did, but sure enough, there was more life in my microwaved ribs then in his eyes. Well we gave it another try. We arrived around 5 the place was empty. The server yelled out to seat ourselves. Torn between the different bbq sandwiches we asked the server what she recommended. She said the ribeye medium and have them make the Dutch roll garlic bread. I got this and a side salad. Hubby opted for the Ruben and onion rings. Salad came out, nice small side salad with various hand chopped veggies and romaine lettuce. The mains came out - under impressed. My ribeye was a pan fried steak - not bbq. Very thin on one side -dry and over cooked, the slightly thicker side had decent flavor and was moist. The garlic bread was buttered roll with garlic powder toasted on the grill. I ended up making a sandwich - super disappointed and not worth $23. Wish the steak was thicker cut to hold the moisture and marbling, and BBQ'd!! Hubby's Ruben - just ok - prefers eagles nest as this was dry pastrami and greasy toasted bread. We arrived for an early dinner and got the brisket plate and a burger. Sadly, the brisket was more akin to jerky than a soft cooked meat. It was really rich in collagen, apparently, because it was mostly tendon! The burger was good, served medium, and we enjoyed our selected sides, bean-forward chili, sweet potato fries, but our favorite side was the BBQ veggies. The restaurant is decorated with effusive praise on old post cards, but sadly that praise is no longer applicable because there was apparently a change of ownership I saw mentioned in a previous review. Three days ago, my wife and I ordered British burgers from the menu. Both of us said that those were the worst hamburgers we had ever had. The bun was very dry and fell apart in our hands. Imagine trying to use corn bread for a bun and you will understand the experience. The onions were chopped into little pieces and they escaped through the cracks in the bun. The dry bun was definitely off putting and messy. My wife gave up and used her fork and knife. I could see that there were other kinds of offerings with Dutch crunch bread. I suggest the restaurant owner bring buns up from their other restaurant in town or just substitute the Dutch crunch until you find a supplier of quality buns. I just made myself a hamburger at home starting with a frozen patty, frozen Safeway bun, sliced white onion and American cheese. My ten-minute special was far more satisfying than the Hamburger Ranch burger. You can do better than this. Your other restaurant (Railroad Cafe) a mile away makes a better burger. My husband and I were staying nearby and decided to give this place a try. The place is cute and has nice outdoor seating. They also seem to be practicing covid guidelines. The menu selection is decent but it was disappointing that they were out of a lot of things AND the food we got was only so so. The food is definitely pricey and doesn't even come with bread. It's honestly cheaper in the Bay. The macaroni and cheese tasted like butter and pasta, the potato salad had no flavor, the pulled chicken was good but for the cost we were surprised at how little we got... which was the same for the pulled pork meal we got. The ribs were pretty good but not amazing. The food is decent which is why they got three stars versus 1, but really overpriced for what you get and the quality. I've been to several restaurants that have dollar bills all over the walls but never postcards. Restaurant gives you post cards to mail back to them. Really neat to see where they are mailed from. This was the second time I made a mistake of stopping at the Greasy Spoon with some friends while on a bike ride. Ordered a Ruben sandwich believing it couldn't be as bad as the first time I ate here. Without a doubt, worst excuse for a Ruben I have ever had. Little slices of bread, with a small portion of fat pretending to be pastrami, and a dash of sauerkraut. Couldn't choke down the whole thing. However, the fries were very good. The price for the sandwich was ridiculous, as was everything else on the menu. Some of my friends had a BBQ sandwich which needed to be drowned in BBQ sauce to be eaten. We stumbled on this place by accident but will always return here when we are in Cloverdale. My daughter had the pull pork and beef brisket with onion rings and Mac and cheese. She hoovered her Mac and cheese and two meats completely. My son had the pulled pork and pulled chicken, he loved them. Mom (Popo) had the hamburger which she normally does not eat the whole thing, but it was so good, she did! My wife and I had salads, here was topped with pulled pork and mine was with the brisket. This used to be one of our favorite places. The food was always incredible and it was a fun place to stop on our way back from Mendocino. But there are obviously new owners. The brisket was dry. The mac and cheese was just mac. And the baked beans were watery, flavorless canned beans. The hamburger was nothing special and the fries were extra greasy. We used to love their desserts, but didn't order any because everything tasted so bad. This restaurant should really be required to change its name. Ive have been coming here since I was in High School and I'm am giving them a 4 because I know the bugers are good. BUT... this time I got the grilled chicken sandwich. I would give that a high 2. It was kind okay. The texture was almost a little rubbery, there was some flavor but not outstanding flavor. I also got a small salad. The salads are simple with iceberg, tomatoe, beans and carrots for some reason I love their salads. It was Mothers day and the 3 moms all got complimentary champagne. My husband really was looking forward to their ribs but they were all out by 630pm. He ended up with the brisket plate and said it was a little over done but not bad. Everyone else got bugers with no complaints. Hamburger ranch is great place to go on summer evenings when you can sit outside and enjoy yourself. The food here is good, but the service is not consistent. Several times I have been charged incorrectly and given attitude when I point it out. Tonight I called our order in and sent my husband to pick it up. We were told 20-30 minutes and showed up at the 30 minute mark. The waitress couldn't find our order and after walking passed my husband several times realized she didn't put it in and said it would be another 10 minutes. When the food was finally ready she shoved it in the bag handed it to my husband sideways and answered the phone. When he got the food home it seemed like the portion sizes were much smaller than when we have gone before and we were given no bbq sauce. Other than a quick 'my bad' there was no attempt to correct this mistake. Sadly, I think this is the last time we will visit this restaurant. Unfortunately a horrible experience, and after reading the mixed reviews I really wanted this to be a positive outing for July 4th. Ordered the BRISKET PLATE W/Two Sides $15.95. I asked for sliced bread to go with my meal and was told it was $1 per slice. I declined. My meal was delivered by the manager. It was visually unappealing, meat was dry, tough and fatty. When I commented to a server about my meal, her snappy response was, "no one else has complained about it today", as this would make any difference. She was dismissive and haughty. I asked her to remove the plate and remove it from my bill. Manger then appeared with my bill, set it on the table and said, "thank you, have a good day" then walked off. No questions asked. Was unconcerned and clearly did not want customer feedback. As she walked away I asked her who the owner was, as I was told earlier she was part of the owner's family. She finally admitted that her stepfather was the owner. I asked when he might be available to talk with and she said, "the end of the month, he is traveling abroad". She then berated me for complaining to a server and not to her directly. This was interesting because no one had come back to check on us or to offer a refill our drinks since the meals were delivered. Not one person. As I began to describe the brisket and explain why I sent it back she interrupted me and began explaining what type of cut the brisket is and how brisket is prepared. She was rude and condescending. Not at all interested in pleasing customers. Overall I have to rate this establishment 1 Star. In summary... Poor management, poor service and bad food. My experience with these types of establishments is they will not view this as a learning opportunity or take a step back to see what could be improved upon in the future. When the manager and a server both dismiss observations and comments from a guest, you know they aren't interested in improvement. And folks, we all know that no matter how great you may be, there is always room for improvement. As we left, the manager was taking an order from another table and yelled across the patio to us, "have a good life". I left shaking my head in disappointment. read more
