Hired this company to move a two bedroom apartment to a new house the next town over. A representative came to assess the job the week before. Apparently he is incapable of planning moves because he sent two movers with no carts. The move therefore took more than twice as long and came in almost double the estimate (even with us working nonstop, negating the purpose of hiring movers. That said, the movers that did show up were great. Polite and hardworking. But the management and planning were nonexistent for our job. read more

These guys took our second car, furniture and 100 boxes from our 3rd floor apartment with only stairs and no elevator from Lansdale PA to Louisville Kentucky in just 2 days. Everything arrived safely with nothing broken and we were treated like we were their only customer. The price quoted didn't change at the time of payment either. These guys get zero stars. Would not recommend them. Used these guys to move me once before and they did ok. This last move in March was a disaster. Started off with 4 guys, by mid morning one of them left - the remaining 3 like the 3 stooges. They were supposed to send a replacement, but did not so the move with the remaining 3 guys turned into a marathon. Many times these guys took breaks, were in my bathroom, or just standing around in the truck. Damaged several pieces of furniture, did not use covers for the furniture or anything to protect the floors/carpet (new house!). At one point one of the movers was to put together a storage shelf, ended up screaming the F word and throwing pieces of the shelving around the basement. Poor, poor poor!. Was told by the mgr. Rosendo Diaz that success of move can depend highly on who is available that day and the rapport the movers have with each other - a lousy excuse if you ask me. Buyer beware! Glenn Miller read more

2009 I moved out of my house to an apartment and ended up with $20,000 in gold jewelry missing. It was taken during the packing up process. A warrant could not be presented because the owners of Hammers Moving & Storage were in an office behind the Hammers Moving and storage office. Run away - FAST. The owner did my quote, which was 2 parts. One for moving immediate items across the state, and one for storing items until I found a new house in Pittsburgh. The items that were moved next day arrived fine and in good condition. The items on the other truck - loaded out same day, are another story. Items stored over a year - I have over $5000 in missing items, boxes were crushed, punctured, torn, and half of all wood furniture damaged. There is evidence of water stains on boxes and mildewed and blistered wood. So much for climate controlled storage. They did not give me the inventory list to cross check as pieces were delivered and at 12:30 am, I was too tired to fight them hard. The movers signing everything out marked everything as damaged when I know he didn't spend but an hour tagging out a 4 bedroom house on pickup. And on delivery, yes, I signed the damn sheet just to get them to leave at 12:30. I was sick from looking at damage and knowing pieces were missing, hadn't eaten since lunch and even the one mover admitted he hadn't seen such damage in his 30 years in the business. Will see how claim goes but I am less than optimistic due to size of claim (likely $10,000). read more

Used Hammers to move, they were reasonably priced, and did a great job. Moving crew was very courteous and professional. They picked up everything from my house the day before the move, stored it overnight, then unloaded it into my new house after closing. Moving truck was right on time for both pickup and delivery, nothing was damaged in the move. Final cost was at the quoted estimate (they come to your house to look around prior to move to make sure it is accurate) I would absolutely repeat if I had to move again :) read more

The guys who loaded the truck were SO polite and professional--and they took GREAT care of our precious items--like a 3rd generation pine grandfather clock. Hammer packed and moved my in-laws from PA to TX last month. Everything was helter skelter. They threw kitchen knife blades loose in a dresser drawer without covering or wrapping them in anything. Their living room rug was stained with grease spots. Glass shelves that went in a cabinet were put in an unmarked box with a bunch of random stuff. Their office desk and cabinet was assembled with half the screws missing and they can't find them anywhere. The beds weren't fastened properly and all frames had to be redone. A large Christmas dish was thrown into a box unwrapped and was in pieces on arrival. Nice silverware was thrown loose into a drawer. They paid a lot of money to be packed and moved across the country and this company was not worth the premium price at all. read more

I was warned in advance not to use Hammer moving after I had already given them a deposit. I was told to buy extra insurance because the damage would be extensive. I should have listened. Part of my move included two motorcycles. I'd also like to you to understand that the previous July, a little over a year ago I had spinal surgery and hadn't ridden my bikes at all. Zero, I wasn't even able to take them over to be inspected. When it came time to load the bikes the men came over to me and asked me ride the Harley up the ramp. I told them they should push or drive it themselves. They insisted I do it. After protesting I gave in. The bike flew off the ramp causing 2600$ worth of damage. Part of that estimate includes the opposite side of the gas tank, when they apparently decided to reload the truck and scraped it horribly. Also many other items were destroyed in the move, including statues, barbecue pictures, pots , dishes...a lot of these items were not discovered until we unpacked everything so they were not on the claim... What a joke...75,000$ worth of coverage...the movers threw me under the bus saying it was my idea and I insisted on driving up the ramp!!! Makes sense, I paid you 12,000$ to move me, so after spinal surgery I thought it would be a great idea to drive it up. Their insurance company, based on what the movers said, nothing we said mattered at all, even the opposite side of the bike that scratched on the wall of the truck, are they taking responsibility for. Its as close to a scam as I've ever seen.... STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!! I was warned and didn't listen and now I'm paying the price, literally. read more

I just wanted to leave a good review as I just moved and was a bit afraid to use these guys after reading the reviews that were here. These guys are good. we had 2 households to move into one and these guys were fast and efficient and courteous and even stayed a few minutes to help move furniture around. Stay away from Hammer. We had a very bad experience. I packed some things myself and had them pack the things I was worried about. Nothing I packed got broke but many things that they packed were broken. There were thousands of dollars damaged or broke. Our settlement was less then $300. The packers and movers were unpleasant and one was drunk. (one was nice) Again, stay away. read more

I'd like to give HALF a star for this review. I'll give it the 1 star only because the mover guys and office staff were polite. But that is literally the only good thing I can say about my experience with Hammer. Last summer, I had to move out of my old house in PA and put everything in storage for 2 months before I could move in to my new house in NJ. The move-out took all day, and when the guys were done the truck was full and they had left a lot of items behind. Some of these I moved to the curb for trash pickup and others I packed into my car. One was a heavy and bulky old-style TV; another was a bin full of books that weighed a ton -- and there was much more. (I was later informed the movers would have come back for the rest of the items, but by then I was anxious to get the house clean for the new owners to walk through.) Fast-forward 2 months to the move-in. The delivery at move-in was missing about half of our things, including my daughter's bed, large desk, several chairs... But some of the items they tried to bring into the house were not even ours -- an armchair, a box of Nintendo games... What?? Did THOSE people have OUR stuff?? What was delivered was broken, mildewed, and/or moldy. Dozens of boxes were smashed. Even plastic storage bins that I purchased to protect the more fragile items got large splits down the sides and across the lids so moisture got in during storage and items were ruined. This had to have resulted from more and more heavy boxes being stacked upon each other. I had packed original framed art and photos in plastic packing wrap. Glass in frames and frames themselves arrived broken. Much of the art had become moldy. These items were unsalvagable. A bentwood rocker's arm was torn off. The bottom portion of a desk had been smashed so that none of the drawers opened and a leg was broken off. Cushions on the couch had to be thoroughly washed to remove the moisture damage. Books were a total disaster. Some boxes came through unscathed, while other boxes were smashed and/or all the contents became so moldy that the books had to be thrown out. The smell was overpowering. When I pointed out we were missing a lot of stuff after this delivery, the guys checked with the warehouse and said they'd be back the next day with the rest of the things. I was unavailable until the following weekend, so my daughter had to sleep on the floor on an air mattress. Delivery #2: When the guys came back a week later, the move-in took just as long as the first delivery (all day). The guys lacked the proper tools and screws to assemble my daughter's bed so they had to go the hardware store to buy them. I was new to the area (I'd moved from Telford, PA, to Hamilton, NJ) so I didn't know how to tell them where the hardware store was, though I had been there and knew it was less than 2-3 miles away. I said, "Use your GPS." Unbelievably, they didn't have one in the truck! I tried to explain how to get to the hardware store, and they left. They returned more than an hour later with the materials they needed. They'd gotten lost. But they started to assemble the bed, when Oops! they said they were missing the bed slats that supported the mattress! Deliver #3: Another week went by before they could return with the slats and complete the bed assembly. After I had gone through everything, I filled out the company's claim form and described in detail all that had happened. The office was polite as usual but stated that they were not responsible for anything I'd packed myself. And anything that was broken I could expect to receive 60 cents per pound as compensation. I had signed their agreement; this was true, it was their policy. But I hadn't counted on rugged plastic storage bins to be split open or for the storage facility to cause water damage! Bottom line, I got $400 back. It wasn't much with respect to all I had lost, but it was something, and I cut my losses. I had hired Hammer's originally because I lived in Telford and believed in "buying local." I wish I'd read this web site earlier. I hope these reviews will deter someone else from having these problems. read more

Moved a month ago. Waited to post this review til I was almost unpacked, so I was sure of my accusation A few of my items were slightly damaged, but nothing that can't be touched up w/a bit of wood color. I was told when we scheduled the move that someone could come out to give us an estimate to be sure of the price and time that was needed to move. I told her that it wasn't necessary. Since we made this move before with the same amount of furniture, and the furniture was coming down from the second floor was only going to be moved to ground level. The last move, same amount of furniture, moved 11 miles. This move was only 3 miles. Shouldn't take more than 5 hours. It ended up taking 8 hours. They didn't have time to take several boxes that I needed them to take since they were heavy. The extra hours computed into the fact that they didn't BRING A LARGE ENOUGH TRUCK!!! So that meant they would have to take more time driving back and forth. The last more w/a different company, same size truck, 5 HOURS!!!! We couldn't booked the last movers we had. I can even over-looked all of this BUT what happened that day I can't overlook, and before you book w/them you may want to think twice. I am facing surgery soon. I had very strong pain killers to get me through this move. I took 1/2 a pill the night before and kept the bottle out to put in my purse the next day. Figuring I was going to need them the following night. Took them downstairs to the kitchen and set them on the counter, planning on putting them in my purse. Meanwhile they were moving furniture. We did offer them fruit and few other things to eat and drink. The fruit was on the same counter as my medication. Never gave it much more thought until that night when I went to get my medication. I couldn't find it. I didn't panic too much since I thought that it would show up in a box along the way. It has now been over a month, and practically all the boxes are unpacked and the pills have not surfaced. There is nowhere else to look. So The only thing we can conclude is that one of the three men "helped themselves to my medication". I wasn't going to post this, but several people I told about this said I should definitely call the moving company and report the issue. I called and the woman I booked the move with wasn't in I was told see would call me back Monday. Monday came and went and received no call. Called the following Monday left a message regarding the medication incident and never did get a "call back." I know they can't be replaced. BUT THAT WAS NOTHING MORE THAN STEALING. And worst part about it they were drugs!!!!! Then I get (or more like an uncaring) response. I honestly would think twice before booking with them. read more

Run away and run away fast. We were moving my 2 bedroom apartment (with a 3rd floor attic space, containing 4 boxes and a small printer) and my sister's storage unit containing her 1 bedroom apartment. We moved into a house together. All the locations were within 2 miles of each other. We were quoted by Hammer's 4-6 hours. The mover's arrived at 9am and did not leave until 7:30pm. 10.5 hours! It took them 4 hours to move just the 2 bedroom apartment. It took myself and 4 others to move this same apartment the year earlier 4 hours from one location to another. Total. Along the way they broke family heirloom glasses, our bookcase. They laid the kitchen table on the middle of the floor. When I was attempting to tell them where to put things, I backed onto it, fell and hurt by backside and elbow. One of the men was smoking in the truck while unloading our things. Some of our things smell like smoke. The estimate was $660. The total was $1500. 3 men were moving. The one man, quite a large man, was not seen most of the day, he was in the truck. But who do you think they sent int he with the bill at the end of the day? We didn't have enough money to pay because we did not expect to be 4.5 hours over. We have reached out to complain and hope to come to some sort of resolution, but they will not stating it just took longer than expected. We could have moved these two locations quicker than they did. DO NOT USE! read more

Hammer's representative came out and gave me a reasonable estimate and I arranged to have my furniture moved from a 3 bedroom house. He saw a beautiful piece of stained glass art and asked if I wanted they to pack it with special attention, for an additional price, and I said yes. On the day of the move I didn't mind that they were 1/2-hr late and the workmen were cordial and friendly. A different crew-all very nice-moved me in 2 days later...that's when I saw the damage. Not sure if it happened coming or going, but no less than 5 pieces of furniture have been severely damaged: scratches, gouges, nicks, evidence of sliding things across wooden tables. And my stained glass art had 19 cracked pieces of glass. I overheard the lead man say to the workman who wrapped it, "You didn't do it right, but it's okay." It wasn't. Since I thought I was dealing with professionals, I didn't take the expanded insurance, which had a high deductible anyway, so I've been compensated $129. It cost me $200 to have the art fixed alone. NEVER AGAIN!!!! WILL IS TRUST THIS COMPANY. read more
