Four of us ate at Han 202 last night. All in all, it was very disappointing, especially given the attention from its appearance on Check Please. The food was good but far from great. These are not exciting Asian flavors, but toned down, almost dull tastes. the presentations were beautiful. But the part that was most irksome was the extremely small portions, almost nouvelle cuisine-like, only nouvelle cuisine was pretty much through in the 1980s. Honestly, we all left very hungry, and we are not big people or particularly big eaters. That is not how you should leave a restaurant. So, in one sentence: Pretentious, extremely small portions, average-at-best food, average if not rushing wait staff made our visit to Han 202 likely to be our last. read more

I came here on a Wednesday about a month back, I would have never walked into Han if I wasn't recommended by a good friend. The outside looks shady and because I grew up in the neighborhood, I would have never thought of a 'fancier' restaurant being in such area! When I walked in, I was greeted nicely by the lovely ladies. The atmosphere was awkward at first because there was only one other table but became a lot better after several other tables arrived. The service was wonderful and the food was good. BUT I wish they would make the portions larger! I wouldn't mind paying an extra 5-10$ for a bigger portion. one of the servers greeted me and explained to me that she was new and please bear with her, she was so adorable and completely bearable and she did an amazing job taking orders and answering my questions.. When it became apparent that the place grew a little too hectic, she remind smiling and stayed attentive to the costumers - thats a plus! although i did have a problem with the other server simply standing around while this one was basically hopping around trying to serve every customer, it seemed as though the chefs in the back were having the most relaxing time too... I didn't get that and felt bad for this lovely girl. Aside from my problem with hiring two servers and only one working, it is not my restaurant and not something I can do about. Let me start off by saying this place is EXPENSIVE!!! This is definitely a fine dining restaurant so be prepared to pay some money for your dinner. The food is beautifully prepared and delicious. The setting is romantic with dimmed lights and fancy small tables which gives a romantic setting. However, it can feel a bit cramped since you are very close to the table next to you. The main thing that sucks is that the portion sizes are small so if you're a big eater like my fiance this will not satisfy you and he had an appetizer, main dish, and dessert! Another con is that my fiance wanted to order a seafood dish and we found out when we got the bill that it is twice as much but they do not warn you or even put it on the menu that you will be charged double. So make sure you know what you are ordering. ALSO NO PARKING LOT ONLY STREET PARKING. YOU ALSO HAVE TO MAKE RESERVATION IN ADVANCE TO EAT HERE-NO WALK INS! We found that out the hard way. We walked in there and they said we cannot eat there without reservation so we had to come back a week later for his birthday dinner. ALSO FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THERE ARE ONLY 2-3 WAITRESSES AND THEY STARE YOU DOWN LIKE CRAZY!!! The whole time we were dining the main hostess or whatever she was could not keep her eyes off us and when she handed us the bill and my fiance freaked out by the price she had this sneaky and sly smirk on her face...idk very awkward. Overall, it was a romantic birthday dinner and cost a total of $85 for both of us and that included appetizer, main dish, and dessert. Beverages are pricey too even for sparkling water...ridiculous. Once again, a great place to wine and dine someone but won't be coming back again. When you think about it you have to pay for street parking, make a reservation in advance no walkins, and overpay for small portions then I'd ratehr try another place. The dishes although well prepared are way OVERPRICED for the portion size. To me this is a one time place to eat nothing spectacular to make you want to return. read more

What a concept, 5 course meal 20 bucks. I went with my sister here and was quite impressed. There were many seafood selections but great selections at that. Most restaurants the pricier, the smaller the portions. These portions were more of a tasting menu but CHEAP!! We tried different things. Lemongrass beef salad over apples salad and the seafood curry stand out in my mind the most. We are going again next week and I may udate my review later. read more

My husband and I went to Han 202 yesterday after seeing the restaurant on Check, Please! Chicago the evening before. We both love to try new places and cuisines and after reading reviews online and hearing what the pannel had to say on Check, Please! we thought it would be fun to drive out to Chicago (from Saint Charles - an hour away) and try something new. It was worth the trip, in my opinion. Though St. Charles and the neighboring towns have some wonderful options for dining, there is nothing like Han 202 around here. $25 menu gets you 5 courses - soup, salad, appetizer, entree and dessert. My husband and I chose to each order different selections for each course, so we may try as many different things as possible. Everything was delicious, the best thing being the beef and green apple salad! Amazing and a good size. I did feel some of the courses were a little too small, but for $25 it's fine. It is a quiet atmosphere, but I didn't notice it all that much, until the girl next to me gave me weird looks when I laughed a little too loud...but they were about to leave anyway...so who cares lol Loved the BYOB aspect too! It gives you a chance to bring your own wine, beer (or sake, as my husband did) and enjoy a wonderful meal at a great, affordable price! We'll go again soon and bring some friends! :) read more

The Beef and Lemongrass Salad is hands down my favorite dish. Possibly my favorite dish from any restaurant I frequent. Always top notch and respectful. I don't mind opening up my own BYOB, which some people seem offended by. I suggest you try this place! read more

this place is fantastic. we had a spectacular 5-course meal, i would say all courses were good to great. the 2 of us tried 10 dishes in total - of particular note are the beef and green apple salad, salt and pepper calamari, and snapper as well as schrimp/scallop entree. for $25 pp, a definite find, and well worth more than twice that. read more

I was super super looking forward to going to Han 202. I've read only amazing reviews of the place and there's not a cell in my body that does not respond with overwhelming excitment for a $20 5 course prix fix. I will admit that most of my disappointed can probably be blamed on my overhyped anticipation. My calamari app was very good but my bf's soft shell crab was very disappointing. Although the crab would've been delicious on its own, I thought they ruined the dish by putting on a cheap tasting sweet & sour sauce. My fish was good but tiny, my bf's lamb was so extremely undercooked that he had to ask the kitchen to re-cook it for a few more minutes. I love the idea of 5 different dishes for only $20, the more variety in a meal the better! But spending $40 on a meal in Bridgeport and coming out still kind of hungry makes me feel really ripped off. With $40, my bf and I could've had our own 5 course meal + leftovers in most restaurants in Chinatown...and it would be just as if not more delicious! read more

Han 202 has become one of my recommended restaurants for the Chinatown/Bridgeport area. They have a prix fixe menu, which means you choose one dish for each of four courses. The calamari is lightly fried and delicious, the salads are fresh and flavorful, rack of lamb was tender and succulent, pork dumplings are awesome. Don't come in here thinking you will get chop suey or your traditional Chinese food. The food here is more diverse, but there are Chinese-inspired dishes on the menu (mongolian beef). The ingredients here are top notch and the quality shows through in the tastes, textures, and plating of the food. It's BYOB too. read more

**HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE** My group of 4 made online reservations for dinner at 7:30. When we arrived they said they did not check their online reservations for that night and we had to wait 30 mins for a table. When we were finally seated we all chose our 5 courses and ordered. It was about another 30 mins before we were served our soup, I had the vegetable soup which was made up of a few odd veggies in hot water. Horrible! Two of us spilled our soups all over the table because the silverware is so heavy and they soup bowls were narrow and light. We after another 20 mins we were served our salad, I had the apple salad which was good, but nothing to get excited about. We then had our appetizers, I had the crab rangoon which was very delicious. Our main course came at about 10pm ( we had been there since 7:30) and my spicy shrimp with scallops and veggies was not appealing to my tastebuds. I informed the waitress that I was not pleased with my dish and she basically said there was nothing she could do for me. I then asked for the check and she informed us that we still had our desert to eat, I said WELL can we have it NOW?! She looked at me as if to say 'You mean after sitting here for 3.5 hours you want your desert already?!'. The vanilla ice cream tasted cheap, and had a lot of freezer burn on it. You could tell they pre-made the ice cream in the dishes, letting it melt so it will be flat and then froze them again. The only good thing was the sorbet on top about the size of a gumball. NOTHING SPECTACULAR about it at all!!!! NOT TO MENTION: it was beyond freezing in there. We did not take off our coats and my toes were numb. I asked the manager to turn up the heat and she looked at me with a blank stare, then proceeded to act as if it was not 32 degrees in there. ***WOULD NOT RECOMMEND**** read more

Went for dinner last week. The place is pretty, a bit too bright for my liking. There's a huge Pepsi cooler behind the bar, the logo is distracting in this setting. Had the spicy king crab miso; was just okay. The bit of crab was succulent but the flavor of the soup was a bit too salty and the spice didn't have any complexity to it. Had the apple salad. It was fine, sort of a one-note dish, but simple and refreshing; bites with caper were tastier. The tempura was decent but the batter was a bit too dense and greasy. For my entree I had the cod with oyster sauce. It was good but again a bit too salty-- I've had better dishes similar to this in Chinatown. Dessert was an espresso cup of some sort of ice cream; they subsituted something because they were out of what was on the menu. The presentation of all the dishes was lovely and the service was kind, well timed and sweet. Can't beat the $20 prix fixe and BYOB makes it an insanely inexpensive option considering the number of courses. If I have a hankerin' for Chinese food, though, I can't say I'll be rushing back to this place. There are a couple spots in China town I like better. read more

i've been wanting to try han 202 after reading countless great reviews, both here on yelp and in other publications (newspapers, magazines, etc). i mean, $20 prix fixe + byob... how could it get any better?! so the hubby and i went this past saturday. it was fairly quiet... by the time we left around 7pm, it was only half full. but that's ok. we originally had a 6pm reservation, but after driving around at about 5pm, starving, i called to ask if it was ok to be seated sooner. she said sure! so we went, bottle in hand, and were seated immediately. after scouring the menu, we made our choices: [soup] both: spicy alaskan crab soup - the soup was good, a bit "fishy" but the spice kind of muted it and it was good. good amount of crab too! [salad] me: lemongrass beef with apple - yum! this may have been my favorite dish! the beef was so tender, seasoned perfectly, with a good amount of lemongrass that you could both taste and smell. the combo of the beef with the julienned apple was so good! hubby: crab and cucumber - i really liked this salad (of course we tasted each other's food). it was refreshing, and had a really good dressing. [appetizer] me: walnut shrimp - so good! the sauce was slightly thinner than i've had it at most other places. there were 3 shrimp (generous portion size). while this dish was really good, i'll admit... yu's manderin may forever have the best walnut shrimp. (and i despise yu's manderin!) hubby: seared scallop - i'm not a fan of scallops, so i only had a tiny bite and it was alright. the hubby liked it though.... but complained that there was only 1 scallop, as opposed to the 3 shrimp i got. budget-efficient, i'm sure. [entree] me: new york strip with miso sauce - this was a perfect portion size for me. i'd say it was about a 4-5ounce steak. perfect grill marks, perfectly done to order (medium). while the steak was delicious and hot.... the sauce it was served on.... yikes! was it supposed to be a cold miso sauce? i pretty much scraped it all to the opposite side as soon as i could so it wouldn't affect the temp of my steak! also, the sauce was not good. i pretty much only ate the steak and rice that was served in a separate bowl. hubby: chilean seabass - i didn't try this, because it was a kinda small portion, so i left it to the hubby. he liked it but didn't seem wow'd. it had some veggies (and fruit) stir fried as an accompaniment, and also a bowl of rice. [dessert] vanilla icecream with a mango/tomato sorbet. - i loved the sorbet even though there was only about a teaspoons' worth to try... and seriously, they could've had a better dessert. i can have freezing cold vanilla icecream at home. overall, it's a cute place, friendly service, and decent food. did i think it was phenomenal? no... but for $20 prix fixe, decent. however, i do like what the owners are doing. keeping it simple and affordable. and for that, i will probably go back if i'm in the area. read more

I love Han 202. A 4 course gourmet meal for prix fixe of $35 is perfect for any night of the week. BYOB is always a plus if you do not mind planning ahead for your wine choice. Husband and I work late on Wednesday nights. We just moved to South Loop and plan to make Han 202 our new regular spot. (sorry Gaetano's in Forest Park ). Ok a fellow yelper tiped me off about this lil hot spot and I'm so happy he did. Me and my husband went for lunch today . When we walked in I thought to myself this place is really adorable. I really enjoyed the way this place was decorated. We were seated and got our menus I honestly can say I seen my husbands face lite up when he seen the prices. We started with the Miso soup which we both enjoyed very much, then we got a cucmber crab salad (first time I've ever had it ) I can honestly tell you I fell in love with it.The cucumber was fresh and crunchy and the crab added a lil sweetness to it. I was very pleased and then came our Sushi I opted for the roll and my husband got the Nigiri both were northside worthy (Without the Northside prices) All in all I'm very happy han 202 is in Bridgeport. Whenever I hear about restaurants that have this high of a rating, I'm always slightly apprehensive--but Han 202 lived up to it's reputation. I definitely recommend. Good service, really great food, and you can tell the owners really love what they do. Well, I would really, really like to give this place a higher rating because of the price and Bridgeport location. In fact we went a second time to make sure that they were not having an off night the first time we went, but we had serious problems both times with our entrees. The Good: The Spicy Crab Miso Soup was pretty good tonight. It was a lot richer than the last time we went. We both got the beef and apple salad for the second course, and it was very tasty. I never expected apples, beef, and capers to go together so well. Next, we got the calamari, and it was quite interesting with a mixture of green peppers, pepper corns, onions and calamari. It was quite good. The truffles for dessert were delicious and were just the right size to end the meal. The service was excellent, polite, and very fast. The Bad: The entree is where we ran into problems again. The last time we ate at Han 202 the vegetables in my husband's entree were raw. Both of us get squeamish about sending food back, and he didn't mention the uncooked vegetables until we left. We had enjoyed the other courses, and my salmon entree was delicious, so we decided that we would go back some day. Well, today I got the bad entree. My Chilean Sea Bass was undercooked. It was difficult to cut with the knife instead of flaking easily, which was a serious problem because it was FULL of tiny bones. I removed one bone, took a small amount in my mouth and had to spit it into the napkin because there were four tiny bones in a tiny piece of fish. Then, when trying to cut the rest, I realized that it was basically inedible due to the bones. There seemed to be more bones than fish, but I had been given two pieces. The other piece was bone free although rather undercooked. I believe that there should be more consistency in the quality of the entrees as there is for the other courses. PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING TO Han 202! After hearing such rave reviews about this place my wife and I decided to try it for ourselves. This restaurant serves a five-course meal for a set price. We got seated and waited at least 15-20minutes before the waitress came by our table to take our order. For the first course we both ordered the crab miso soup. It was nothing extraordinary that you could not get a any Japanese restaurant. Just think miso soup with hot pepper added and one small piece of crab meat. The second course came after another 20 minute wait for simple seaweed and cucumber salads that probably came out of the refrigerator again dishes that you get at any Japanese restaurant. The third course came after 30 minutes of waiting. This time my wife had the thai fish cake which was dry, hard and processed and it was obviously microwaved! On top of this, the fish cake was only 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 in size. I ordered the scallop- one single piece and was not cooked thoroughly. Now another 40 minutes have gone by and we have not received our main entrees. Keep in mind that we went on a Wednesday night and the place was not even busy. All the waitresses were just standing around and not even going by the tables to see how everything is. Finally we called our waitress over to check on our food with another 15-20 minutes passing before they served it. My wife' s entree came about 5 minutes later than mine. My main dish was the new york strip with miso paste. It was ordered to be made medium and it came rare. The steak was very salty and on top of that it was only 2 1/2 x 21/2 in in size at most, not even 3 ounces. At this time I ask the waitress over and related to her that the steak was not cooked medium and was way too salty. Her answer to me was, I made a mistake and your order was given to another customer. As for the saltiness of the steak, she stated "ONLY ASIAN CUSTOMERS COMPLAIN AND NOT AMERICANS" Yes, Both my wife and I are proud Chinese- Americans and lived in the Bridgeport neighborhood all our lives. For her to make a statement like that, just makes me sick, especially when her English was so poor. Now for my wife's entree which was cod fish with mushrooms and vegetables. She received a very small piece of overcooked, tough fish laden with oyster sauce and a mixture of cold mushroom/ vegetables. By this time we were both so disgusted with the service and food, that we didn't even bother attempting to finish our entrees. We called the manager over to ask why it takes over 2 hours to get to the main entree. She rudely said " You did not make a reservation, so your food takes longer". My wife than responded by saying "Why when you make a reservation are you suppose to decide at that time what menu items you want?" She just then turned her back and walked away without even apologizing or making the order right for us. At this point we just decided to get our check and leave without finishing the fifth course- dessert. We were so disappointed with the quality of service and food we just left for the first time without tipping. THIS IS NOT THE END OF THE MEAL FROM HELL. CAN YOU BELIEVE THEY ADDED A 20% GRATUITY TO OUR BILL WITHOUT ME AUTHORIZING IT. ISN'T THIS FRAUD? Fortunately, we were able to resolve this situation with our credit card company. If you have money to blow and like being served nasty food that is made to look pricey, then go for it. We have been going to this restaurant since it opened and it only keeps getting better. Chef Danny is amazing with his creations. Everything is delicious and beautifully presented. We drive in from the Northern suburbs once a week, we love it so much. It is well worth the drive. The $35 Prix Fix coupled with BYOB makes it an unforgettable meal for an unbelievable price. I almost always get one of the fish dishes for my main course because it is always so fresh but I'm always torn as his rack of lamb is the best ever. Although many reviews call it a Chinese Restaurant, it is more of a French influence. You won't be disappointed. Be sure to make a reservation. read more

This is the fourth time we've been at Han 202, and each time the food was outstanding. The default offering is the 4 course menu for $35, which is an amazing price - the portions are not huge, but unless you have a huge appetite (or are a glutton), by the time you have finished the main course, you will have just enough room for dessert, and you will not leave hungry. My first (salad) course was the lobster tail with a small beet and honey mustard jus - a great balance of flavors. The next course was the crispy quail, simple but flavorful, with a small dab of onion puree on the plate - a nice touch. My main course was the rack of lamb with plum sauce, with the meat perfectly cooked, and I had the creme brûlée for desert, not excessively sweet and just the right consistency. My wife didn't get the full menu, and her choices were more traditionally Chinese: Shanghai dumpling and Mongolian beef, both exceptionally flavorful, the latter pleasantly spicy. The restaurant is BYOB, but as it happened the top tier Malbec that we brought went well with nearly everything. read more

Went to Han 202 for my birthday yesterday armed with a bottle of wine. The location is cozy, the table we were seated at was near the window, my girlfriend was cold. We told the hostess and she cut up the heat, they were very accommodating. The food was delicious, the pace in which they brought out each course was done well, and there was ample parking. Will definitely be going back this turned out to be a perfect choice because my girlfriend is very particular about which chinese restaurants she will eat at. read more

Yay, I AM a fan! Bridgeport desparately needed the help of this little diamond in the rough. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff was pleasant and attentive. Loved the BYOB! Dishes are delicious with mounds of flavor, but just a tiny bit salty for me. I had the highly recommended halibut, but was a little surprised to find the fish bones in the piece. Han 202 decor is great, but one little eyesore that stuck out with me (I hope the owners will consider getting rid of) was the ghastly soda pop refrigerator machine behind the counter...it takes away from the sweet ambience I felt when I walked in. Ok... So I tried Han 202 this weekend after all of the rave reviews on Yelp. I thought that it was really great and a solid 4 stars, but not necessarily a 5 star place. We started with the spicy miso crab soup. I thought that it was good, but nothing extraordinary. Tasted like many a spicy miso... For salads: I had the beef and lemongrass salad and my husband had the crab and cucumber salad. They were both very delicious! The beef and lemongrass had a great flavor and I loved the apple and cucumber crunch underneath, while the cucumber crab tasted fresh light and delicious. For appetizers: My husband had the crab rangoon, which I will admit, wasn't all that adventurous, but it was also nothing to write home about. The usual crab rangoon smothered with sauce drizzled on it. I had the salt and pepper calamari, and it actually tasted very tender and fresh. It needed a sauce or something with it, but it was a well prepared and flavorful dish of calamari. For entrees, I had the monkfish which tasted like a pretty typical Chinese entree amped up a bit. The veggies in it were crunchy and fresh and the monkfish was tender and delicious with a salty blackbean sauce.. yum. My husband had the steak and although I wasn't a fan - he seemed to love it. The dessert was nice, but I have to say that I felt like the ice cream tasted a little like freezer burn:( Sort of the only low point. The restaurant itself is pretty bare minimums, I wouldn't get my hopes up for more than that, although it seemed clean and modern sans the giant soda cooler behind the bar. I would definitely tell anyone to try this place, and you will have a nice dinner for a price you cannot believe, and hopefully we will make the trek again to try some of the other selections. read more

But BEWARE - I ordered an iced tea, which came in a very modest sized glass, and asked for a refill, and I was charge $8. My husband did the same so we paid $16 for iced tea - outrageous.
