I have to say I did have high expectations for this place. Like everyone else, I saw the fans of it on Check Please. After reading Yelp! reviews I was even more excited. First off, they took the soup off and raised the price to $25. So before when you got 5 courses for $20, now you're getting 4 for $25. Big difference. Now had I gone there with no expectations, it would probably be different. It's still a good value for the money but I was expecting the food to be awesome, and it just was not. When we got there they sat us right away. We had a reservation for 7pm on a Saturday. Between the 4 of us, we had brought 2 bottles of wine. We went to give it to them and they said we had to open it ourselves. That was odd. Who carries a wine opener with them? Fortunately my brother in law had brought it in one of those picnic carrying wine things so there was an opener in there. I would assume if you didn't have one they would've charged a corkage fee. That was just weird. I've been to plenty BYOs and never been asked to have my own wine opener! We all decided to try some of each other's things. For a salad I got the salmon and arugula. Boring. I know it says salmon and arugula but I expected something else to be in it. it was literally a few pieces of salmon with a bowl full of lettuce. No one really thought their salads were that good, and we each got a different one. Appetizer, I got the soft shell crab, which was good. I would've liked some meatier crab. The last time I had soft shell crab was at Chicago Firehouse and it was a lot more girth. But still okay. The star was the calamari. Very tasty, prepared perfectly. Everything else was average. For an entree I got duck, which was very overcooked. No one was raving about their entrees but not complaining either. Overall the service was average, the food was average, the place was average. All four of us had the biggest complaint that the food didn't have much flavor. Yes, this is a unique take on Chinese food but we still were all looking for some of those Chinese flavors and not one dish had any. For the value, I'd go back but not if the price went up any more. I went here with my girlfriend for the first time not to long after it open and I also saw this place on check please. Its located in the heart of the Bridgeport neighborhood. The restaurant is really nice inside with a nice decor. My girlfriend and I had the prefixe menu which was good. The only thing about is the portion is not big so if u are planning to be full, eat a snack before hand so you won't be leaving hungry. I like this place and it's good that I had lunch that day earlier cuz the portion size isn't enough for me but I would go back to this place if I am in the neighborhood. read more

This is a wonderful dining choice in Bridgeport that is easy to find with plenty of street parking. My party of four especially enjoyed it following a ballgame at the Cell. The atmosphere is modern with plenty of natural light and a spotless open kitchen. Host and servers are warm and welcoming. The fixed price menu is well presented and reasonably priced. All food items were explained upon serving. A complimentary amuse was a sweet little custard tart followed by four courses. The sea bass, General Tso chicken, vegetables, dumplings, salad were all fresh tasting and beautifully presented. Blueberry desserts were delicious and not too sweet. Got a gift card from my parents for my birthday and we finally got around to using it. WOW! The food was fabulous. The atmosphere is somewhat casual but it is nicely decorated. The tables are somewhat close to each other so if you are not so into communal eating, you might not like that if it 's a busy time. We got a couple bonuses from the chef--hand cut fries with truffle oil and then later in between courses, a small slice of steak tartar. I had Mongolian Trio as my main course and it was how I have been wanting my Mongolian beef to taste for a long time--spicy, sweet and salty all at once. The beef and chicken were tender and the shrimp was fresh and flavorful (The Trio). I also enjoyed the beet and lobster salad that was the starter, I think. The second course was shrimp toast which was super-yum, the tempura shrimp that came with it was good but pretty standard. I had a really good time there despite the annoying guy next to us with at least six beer cans on the floor next to his table. I will definitely do this one again. Soon. ASAP. read more

We visited Han 202 last January 16 for a sample dinner. We were really looking forward to it but the evening ended up as a nightmare. The menu was correct, the presentation too, although we found it a little bit overpriced: more than $100 for two. You can get to way better restaurants for this price. The nightmare started late at night. My partner got really sick from one of the dishes, most probably the smoked salmon salad (which was over vinagretted). He spent all night vomiting and unable to move, and never improved his condition until more than one day later. When he fully recovered we decided to call the restaurant to express how upset we were, especially after spending that amount of money, and the manager ended up being rude to us and saying that this was not their problem. So, we're never going back to this place after the terrible experience and awful service, and I actually feel the need to say this to anyone who seeks advice: better spend your money in other restaurants. read more

This restaurant is an interesting combination of Asian/Western influences, located slightly out of way from major restaurant clusters in the city (bonus: lots of street parking). The food was interesting but a mixed bag.The lobster, rib eye steak and pork chop were highlights, as the main ingredients were cooked perfectly (there was slight unevenness in steak doneness, but we had a large party and they only had two chefs in the kitchen so it's understandable). The scallop was a bit fishy and could have used a little bit of caramelization in a pan. The lemon cheesecake was delicious, but the chocolate souffle had no chocolate flavor and was very bland. It seems there's an attempt at creativity but some of the dishes really need a bit more work before they can shine. read more

Went there on a Saturday on the recommendation of some friends. Knew nothing about the place, including the fact that it was BYOB (oops, I asked for a wine list). The manager then came over, told us he had heard that we might not have realized it was BYOB, and offered to run down the street (in February, in Chicago) to get us a bottle. We said it was ok, we could do without, but he later returned with a half-bottle that another table hadn't used and offered it to us (which we then accepted). Extremely nice! The food: quite good. The king crab soup, calamari appetizer, and duck main course were our favorites. The pre-fixe menu, at $20, is absurdly low for the quality of the food. Highly recommended. read more

I liked the intimate feel of the restaurant and the ambiance/sound level was appropriate for a dinner to catch up with a group of friends. We ordred from the $35 prix fix menu. I ordered the salmon water crest appetizer that was very good, and so was my 2nd appetizer - quail. My main entree, monkfish was not that great, neither was the cornish hen my friend ordered. My other two friends had the chilean sea bass and steak which they enjoyed. The apple tart w/ cinnamon ice cream was the highlight of my night! I did ask for coffee with my dessert and although the coffee was good, I was charged $6!! I think that is WAY too much for coffee. I wouldn't object if friends wanted to come back here again, but for $50+ that i spend after tax and tip I might venture elsewhere. read more

A very interesting place. My wife and I went there for our anniversary. It is an expensive restaurant, but I think the food and the presentation was worth it. A small restaurant so you get plenty of attention from the staff. I would definitely recommend reservations if you plan to go. That will ensure that you have a dining spot. read more

As a northsider transplanted (by marriage) to Bridgeport, this is what I've been hoping to see for a long time - a quaility restaurant. I've been a fan since it first opened and have been going back as often as possible. My only complaint is that their menu has been cut considerably since they first opened, and one of their best appetizers (the crab rangoon) is no longer available. Ok, so I have been to this restaurant about 5 times now and Love it! I really, really, wanted to give it 5 stars.....but I just cannot and there is only one reason....The service stinks! The waitresses lack personality and are not knowledgable enough to be working in such a great restaurant. They hardly speak or understand English. And they have a hard time understanding special requests or changes to the dish...so most times they just told me "NO". They really need to hire some hip, young waiters/waitresses who can liven up the service. I know the food is great...but the service matters too. And one more thing.....No Carry out???? What? I tried to call and order food to pick up and they said...NO ! No carry out ! and hung up on me! How rude! read more

After reading many good reviews of Han 202, my friend and I decided to have dinner there last night. The evening started out with promise and we were seated immediately without reservations. The wait staff was pleasant and attentive and the food was good. The prix fixe menu price of $35 was clearly listed on the menu at the table and, though the reviews we read might have been older and touted the prix fixe at $25, we didn't mind the difference and stayed. We enjoyed our meal and when our server asked if we'd like coffee or tea with our dessert, we asked if they de-caf tea. Our server said they did not and offered de-caf coffee instead, which we agreed on. The coffee arrived a few minutes later, with each of us getting a one cup French press. The bill arrived and we each threw in a credit card and asked our server to split the bill and when we looked at the final amount on our tab, we had each been charged $45. Needless to say, we were surprised and wondered how a $70.00 bill became a $90 bill. I was flabbergasted to see that the coffee was $12!! Even Starbucks doesn't charge $6 for one small cup of coffee. (There was no price for coffee on their menu and all the teas were a reasonable $2.50-$3.00) I called our server over and asked about the charge (which was after our credit cards had been processed.) I explained that we were surprised by the price of the coffee and had we known we would be paying $12, we would not have ordered it. I was very nice to the server and I explained that we would like the owner or manager to remove at least one of the coffee charges. This is where the evening took a real dive for us. The server immediately shut down, stonewalling our effort to mollify the situation. She refused to adjust our bill, refused to pass along our request to speak to either the manager or owner and she said the owner was not there. When I asked who was the manager on duty, she said she was the manager. At this point, I was still being very reasonable and I explained that we enjoyed the meal and the service, and we didn't want to punish the waitstaff for the restaurant's issue. However, we explained that we would have no choice but to leave without adding a tip if the situation wasn't rectified. I asked one more time nicely and said, "if you are the manager, you must have discretion over this." She said the owner would "punish" her anyway. My response was an incredulous, "Really? You work for a guy that would be that abusive to his staff?" She got a glassy look and started to walk away. Since there was a pen on the table with the bill, I wrote a note to the owner, explaining why we left without leaving a tip, which I felt bad about. And, suggesting that he pass the $12 on to the waitstaff and eat the couple of bucks it cost him for the coffee. It's unfortunate when an otherwise good restaurant has horrible customer service skills. In any establishment, a customer complaint should be met with compromise and there was nothing offered in this situation. In the end, they suffered far more than a $12 loss. First, because the situation drew attention from nearby diners. We warned them of the price of coffee on our way out and suggested they pay close attention to their bill before throwing their credit card on the table. We said the same thing to the dozen or so people who were waiting in line near the door. In addition, I am writing this review, which may dissuade some folks from going, and in the end, I will NEVER go back and I will only have a bad memory and a reason to diss this place. It all goes to show that bad word of mouth spreads 100X faster than good word of mouth....that alone is enough to give away a cup of coffee. The pros: Efficient Service, ample portions, tasty food and good location with plenty of parking. The cons: Very noisy with no sound dampening, inflexible management with a really bad attitude. read more

I loved the food here. The menu was expensive but totally worth every penny. The New York skirt steak was phenomenal. The yellowtail is also really good as they give you a huge amount, all sliced. They messed up two orders but it's hard to be mad with food this good. The servers were very polite and friendly. The four course menu really provides an excellent fusion of French and Chinese food. This place is a treasure! Off the beaten path from downtown Chinatown and located in Bridgeport, it is an upscale yet affordable sit down restaurant. The food is amazing and they feature a 4 course fixe menu. Everything is so fresh and fantastic, you can see the cooks prepping and cooking everything and literally putting your food on the plate and serve it to you, so fresh and delicious. Reservations are necessary at this 36 chair restaurant. You will be rewarded for your efforts with a 5-course prix fixe meal for only $20. We had a wonderful experience. I had the spicy King Crab miso soup, and excellent starter. Then onto the lemongrass beef with little strips of julienned green apples. It was the perfect combination of tart, sweet and texture. I chose the salt and pepper with jalapenos for my appetizer. Again great layers of flavors coming together. It was Chilean sea bass with Malaysian chili sauce for my entrée. It was perfectly poached, surrounded by an assortment of crunchy vegetables in a very flavorful lightly spicy sauce. I loved how the chef played the distinct flavors off each other for something I had not experienced before. And it's BYOB with no corkage fee. While once the golden crown of Bridgeport restaurants, Han 202 has sadly devolved into nothing more than a tarnished piece of rusted metal. The quality of the food is not nearly what it once was. Many are taken with the price point of the prix fix menu. However, when you compare price to the portion size of the courses, it's really not that much of a bargain. The main courses are just that - nothing more, nothing less. There are no sides and an order of fried rice to accompany your meal is $10.00. So much for the terrific price point. In the day, there was an army of servers - all well trained and very skilled at five-star service. These days, the wait staff consists of the owner - Yen. She tends to be very moody and surly and has many arbitrary rules that are inconsistently enforced. For example, the restaurant tends to be empty these days. It was perplexing to see guests arrive and told that without a reservation, she would not seat them. There were only two people in the room - both at my table. Also, be very cautious if you purchase a gift certificate from Han 202. As this used to be my go to restaurant (I frequented the restaurant often and brought many, many guests here), a friend had given me a gift certificate to cover the cost of two prix fix dinners. I thought to use them immediately because I do not think Han 202 will be around much longer - there's never anyone in the restaurant. Yen retuned the gift certificates to me and said they had expired. Please note, there is no expiration date on the certificates and they were just purchased. After much discussion and debate, she said that it was an error on her computer (this "discussion" lasted nearly a half-hour). It's a shame that this restaurant could not sustain the quality of food, the high-level of service and the great atmosphere it was once known for. I guess it's true, nothing lasts forever. I'm sad that my last visit to Han 202 was as poor as it was. As a result, I will not return. read more

Han 202 is so sweet. Good and interesting food cooked nicely. The service is very attentive and polite and accommodating. This place has excellent value even after adding $5 to their pre fixe menu. Don't forget to BYO since its an unpleasant in between course interlude to jog over to the CVS. I've been here twice, and am likely to go again every time I have guests in town visiting. I was in last Thursday and highly suggest visiting on a week night, since there were enough free tables to allow for fast service. read more

Delicious food. My parents know the owner, Danny,and he served us his best food and just saying that I was happy and full. We started out with a delicious salad and then I had halibut which was phenomenal. Small but good. We ended with carmalized pineapples in a delicious glaze. I was a happy camper.
