This was my first time visiting Springfield, and I didn't expect to find a place like this…read more The restaurant has a really fun Japanese anime vibe, with Totoro decor and even lucky cat (maneki-neko) touches throughout, which I absolutely loved. It honestly felt like the owner might be Japanese or Chinese, because the whole atmosphere was thoughtfully done and very authentic. The service staff were all friendly and welcoming, and overall the dining experience was great. We did have a delay with one of our dishes (waited over 30 minutes), but the manager noticed the issue right away, took responsibility, and handled it really well. They even offered us complimentary spring rolls, which I really appreciated. That kind of attentiveness and care makes a big difference. The food was solid and enjoyable--of course, you can't compare it to bigger cities, but for Springfield, this is definitely a great find. They also have a robot that helps deliver food, which was such a fun and unique touch. I'm here for work, traveling from out of state, and we actually ended up coming back four days in a row--which probably says everything. You can really tell the owner put a lot of heart into this place--from the decor to the overall experience. I appreciate being able to enjoy a different culture like this, especially in a smaller city. Springfield has given me a really great impression and some wonderful memories. Would definitely recommend

My favorite thing to get is their omo box, it is such a great deal with a little bit of everything. If you've never had sake, I recommend their sake flight. After trying their flight, I am now a fan of sake. The only downside, is it gets really busy on the weekends and the wait can get pretty long. However, if you prepare for a wait when you go or go during a slower time, it's a great place!

It's hard to find a good Pad Thai here in Springfield and sadly that continues. The Pad Thai I ordered was nothing more then stir fried noodles that tasted like dirty grease. No sauce, no peanuts, no egg. And also the owners need to get the only two lads in the dining room some help. However the guys were exceptional considering how busy they were.

A promise of something real, something worth the patience. And when they finally opened..a soft launch, no fanfare; you better believe I was in that parking lot shared with the Food4Less, off Battlefield and Campbell. Rainy day, cold weather in the summer. Surprisingly the perfect combination to enter this newly renovated addition to the shopping center. Their old location is gone. What stands in its place? Something else entirely. Three to four times the size. Four distinct sections. Booths, circle tables, rectangle tables, even a bar with stools. Seating at this hour is self-managed: a small act of trust that tells you everything about the warm chaos of a family-run operation still finding its rhythm. But the bones are solid. The vibe is an unexpected comfort. Soft piano drifts through the air. The lighting is warm, upgraded, inviting. Faux vines trail from corners, faux bamboo stands tall, a video screen plays peaceful landscapes of Vietnam. Paper lanterns hang alongside actual glass chandeliers. Golden fish with kanji watch over the room. It's a total upgrade from the old spot. This isn't just a restaurant moving locations. This is a statement of intention. We ordered. My fiancée went with the Pho Thai: that glorious, aromatic bowl of rice noodles in a broth that tastes like it's been whispering to itself for hours. Rich, savory, soul-warming. I ordered the Bún bò huê but asked them to swap the standard noodles for vermicelli. A small tweak. The kitchen didn't blink. The broth arrived dark, complex, spicy. The Central Vietnamese cousin to pho that doesn't get nearly enough love in this country. It had heat. It had depth. It had backbone. Our kid got a simple side of noodles. Needless to say, everyone finished their food. Every bowl scraped clean. That's the best review you can give a place. Spring rolls? Fresh. Generous. Bigger than usual, stuffed with care. The service? Quick, friendly, attentive, even while short-staffed. That's not easy. That's experience. Hong Yen is a gem. A real one. Great prices, genuine hospitality, a family atmosphere that welcomes strangers and treats them like regulars. People drive hours for this. Now I understand why. Worth the wait? Absolutely.

I ordered the Tonkatsu fried pork cutlet thinking it was like traditional ramen with a meat in broth with noodles. This was not that . When it came, it was a tray with steamed rice, miso soup and a beautifully presented Japanese version of a German schnitzel!! I was surprised and after the first bite of the tender, crispy pork, I was sold. It was delicious. It's a nice little restaurant with outstanding service and pleasant atmosphere. This continues to be a repeater for me.

The lighting is dim and intimate and there was music playing at just the right volume. The restaurant was full however I received kind, prompt, and attentive service. I was dining alone, so I decided to sit at the bar which had plenty of available stools. The bartender was friendly and was able to answer my questions about the menu selections. Now for the food.... It was outstanding! I had the Chashu Bun as an appetizer and the Cheeky Ramen as my main. They were both off the chart tasty. Since I was sitting at the bar which is adjacent to the sushi chef station and right outside the kitchen, I saw many delicious looking plates go out. If I lived in Springfield, MO, I would be a regular. Visit this restaurant. You won't regret it!

Wow, best meal I've had out in a while. The lowest heat option had just a little burn but not lingering, sauce was flavorful and umami without being too salty or overpowering the other flavors, noodles well cooked (al dente), tofu was firm with a nice chargrilled flavor (you could tell it was actually grilled), and there were some nice fresh additions like broccoli florets, shredded carrots, cilantro (and maybe mint?), plus lime slices. The single portion was huge, enough for two meals easily, and a steal at less than 10 bucks. My husband got a (huge!) burrito with chicken, mojo sauce, and fresh guacamole and enjoyed his as well. They have local beers and kombucha on tap, and some nice looking homemade desserts. Atmosphere was pleasant, modern hotel lobby, quiet, with nice large windows. The lady at the counter was very friendly and smiling the whole time she interacted with us. Food came out fast but it was clear they cooked it to order. Eating my leftover noodles for lunch and they're still on point next day and after being nuked XD All around great experience. We'll be back!

They must have made mine with the heat, because it was so spicy that my eyes and nose ran. They just threw some shredded chicken on top that was seasoned to be taco meat... not kidding, it tasted like chili powder, cumin and crushed red pepper. So I had spicy chicken taco meat on top of super hot Asian-flavored noodles. (The flavor of the noodles was great, without the spice and taco seasoning, hence the second star). The Thai basil chicken was bland, flavorless, and dry. Felt like the chicken had been fried awhile go, then reheated. There was about one basil leaf shredded on top. I had to give my spicy taco chicken to my husband who at it with the plain rice, while I ate his "basil" chicken with my noodles. The presentation was beautiful, though (pic taken after I stirred up the noodles). Both plates looked amazing, but the flavors didn't live up to their looks. Needless to say we won't be returning.
