    Crispy Walnut Shrimp
    Elaine C.

Han Palace may be best known for its weekend dim sum, but for my family, it's one of our go-to spots for classic Chinese stir-fried dishes--check out the Chef's Recommendation section! While some offerings, like the crispy walnut shrimp, lean toward the Americanized side, they're still exceptionally well-executed. The Han style filet mignon is a dish we order every time: tender, flavorful, and cooked to a perfect medium. I also highly recommend the steamed cod--delicately prepared in a light broth that enhances the umami. Be sure to enjoy it with rice to soak up all the flavor. As for dim sum, the quality is solid. The chicken feet are some of the softest I've had, and the purple gold yolk buns feature a rich, slightly grainy filling that signals the use of real salted egg yolk. I like to save one for dessert--they're almost too pretty to eat. Service is friendly and efficient, though understandably brisk during peak hours. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a clean, spacious interior with cozy booths and tasteful decor that always brings a sense of comfort and nostalgia.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Just be prepared for crowds on weekends--it's popular for a reason.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This place is worth a visit if just for the purple drink & purple dessert buns. We also enjoyed some dumplings as well as General Tso's. There are several happy hour drink options There were some communication issues as others have mentioned but nothing felt intentional or negative. We parked out front during happy hour with no issues. Our friend parked in the garage which allows for two hours. She was over by one minute and they were kind enough to validate it for her. If we are ever looking for an after work stop in Tyson's area this will certainly be a good option. Worth a visit.

A good dim sum place when it was new but quality and service went down the hill. Now it is okay. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They actually have a great interior decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is slow or super rush sometimes like they want to get the next table seated

I was meeting with a few friends in celebration of the lunar new year and being my first time, [[HIGHLIGHT]]I really enjoy the atmosphere. The dining area is on either side of the restaurant, gorgeous bar that wraps around, plenty of beautiful decor on the walls and a private room for larger parties.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There were so many selections to choose from on their menu. One side has regular and specialty items and on the other side is dim sum. It appears they have two separate menus but it's actually one. They both display the same items on both menu but the white shows the prices. All of the items ordered were tapa style and delicious like char sui, steamed scallops dumplings, beef chow fun, bok choy with garlic, steamed shrimp crepes, braised eggplant, Peking duck with pancakes; pan fried turnip cakes, garlic snow pea leaf (market price). For dessert items like pineapple buns, purple gold yolk bun (salted egg yolks) were delicious but unfortunately the coconut pudding felt flat. Though It was in a shape of a white bunny, there was no coconut flavor and it had a medicinal after taste. There were multiple food runners, the host Yee and all staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Our server Maggie had multiple tables and there were times we just sat there. But on that day, there was a special guests that arrive and gave blessings to all the patrons and staff members. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is connected with the 7900 building so it has a shared restroom.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is a 2 hr limited to eat. Hours of operation are 11:30a-3p and 4p-9p; Fridays and Saturdays they closed at 10p. The parking is limited in the front but manageable and there's more parking in the garage (2 hr is free and after theres a fee). I really enjoy the quality of the items except the coconut bunny. I will definitely make another visit and try other items on their menu.

Approx 12 noon , after I walked in. I wanted a quick lunch at the bar. The matre'd wanted to sit me at a table but I still wanted to eat at the bar 1210pm I put my order in and a different person delivers the food 1235pm Shift to when I am nearly finished and only for the first time someone asked me if everything was ok. Shouldn't someone have stopped by after I began eating to see if everything is ok? Not at the point when I was finished eating!! Only at that time did someone in the kitchen or bar ask me if everything was ok. Ooh and I had to ask for a water refill -- isn't that obvious I finished lunch and needed a refill of water and I did not need to ask. You should have been the one to suggest a refill of water... 1230om it's the small things that leave impressions on the customers..... 1236pm Ooh and I was not asked if I need anything else. I Was not even asked if I would like the check. Ooh how I would like to do a secret shopper experience here to rate the full experience at han palace ,(hint hint) [[HIGHLIGHT]]P.S. I was the only one here at the bar the whole time I had lunch put my order in and had to ask for a full of water[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Go figure

It has taken me a couple of years to make it here even though there are not that many dim sum places in the area. Not sure why this place does not receive five stars from everyone. I brought my mom here for her birthday and she agrees that this place has fresh, hot dim sum dishes that come out quickly. They also have good stir-fry vegetables and congee. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is elegant but bustling with a flavor of modern Chinese decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waiter was efficient and always responded to our requests right away. This place will be added to our rotation for sure.

We ordered a bunch of dim sum plates, and it was okay. I had pretty high expectations because I liked the other Han Palaces nearby. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This was definitely the most fancy and upscale looking, but food was mediocre.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've had better dim sum, but I think I wanna try their other dishes that are not dim sum. Service was kinda slow, and I felt like waiters would wander around and actually help table, especially ours. It took a while to order and get the check.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I was pleasantly surprised to find Han's much quieter than usual during our recent Sunday brunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As always, the dim sum didn't disappoint. We especially enjoyed the scallop dumplings and, of course, the classic crab balls--both were flavorful and fresh. That said, a couple of dishes fell short this time. The chicken mushroom bun was a bit bland and served cold, and the bun itself lacked that smooth, pillowy texture I preferred . The lobster congee was just okay--nothing to rave about. Overall, still a solid dim sum spot, but a few tweaks would've made it perfect!

A lovely place for some good greasy all day dimsum ! Ordered the following: Steamed shrimp rice crepe (lovely would recommend) Deep fried taro buns (okay) Pan fried turnip cake (could find better) Baked bbq pork bun (passable) Roasted duck (very greasy ) Pork siumai(okay) Steamed scallop siumai (okay) Beijing Bellini (passable) Everything was just okay, but nothing that stood out. Most all items were heavy/greasy with no distinct flavors. Would probably come back for a craving but nothing spectacular sadly. Service was good! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was more dressy casual, perfect for gatherings/groups and families.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I am surprised the rating is only a 3 stars for the restaurant, we were there for dinner, great authentic Cantonese food with a good amount of good (more than Peter Chang and mama Chang) ... the food was served fast and the servers were attentive as well. They let me bring a cake to celebrate my dad's birthday and was very nice about staying longer to finish our cake and such. So I would definitely give it a higher 5 stars review, the only thing is they dont tell you that 18% service fee is already charged so they expect to have you pay anohher 20%... not sure if that's very ethical but read your receipt.. otherwise great service and good...

Sesame balls, har gow, and turnip cake - would not recommend any of these

I love dim sum and this was not it. Honestly, I think they're only in business because of their location in Tysons. The shrimp dumplings were very mushy and the shrimp slipped right out of the wrapper. The turnip cake lacked flavor and the sesame balls were barely warm. I also wasn't impressed with the pea shoots (too fibrous) or the Singaporean-style noodles, which were really dry. Would not recommend.

Excellent Dim Sum. We'd like to arrive at opening time to avoid lines. Service is good very fast. All has to be ordered from the menu. No carts. Sticky rice wrap was very good, shrimp dumplings great and as always. Portuguese Tarts were warmed and crunchy just out of the oven.

Was going to give them maybe a 4 1/2 but this is the second time I've been here and they have to get a 3-star overall. Now this has nothing to do with the food because it's pretty good. The first time I was here back in February I sat inside and the restaurant itself is comely decorated and the service was alright...I could tell the server really didn't speak good English so couldn't really tell me much about the menu. I ate when it was happy hour so the drink specials were a good price I got a lemon drop and appetizer steamed shrimp dumplings with for the first time tried beef chow fun dry. And I can tell you it was really good and the right armpit of spice as I told them I wanted it spicy. Now days first today I did carry out and got the same dry beef chow fun and asked for STEAMED crab meat dumpling. Not thinking nothing I waited around 10-15 minute then took my order and went on my way. It wasn't until king or home that I realized that I got FRIED crab wonton which were completely overpacked at $10.95. Plus the noodle dish was not a piece of spice on it after I told her I wanted it spicy! Not sure why she didn't understand I wanted it STEAMED. I don't eat much fried food and if I wanted those wonton I could have went to my local hole in the wall Chinese joint for them. And to top of off don't even put any dipping sauce for them. So moral of the story make sure the people taking your order does it correctly AND you check your order before you leave out!

My friends are Vietnamese and were saying that they were yelling about gambling money. It was pretty annoying and I could tell my friends were uncomfortable. But at the end is where it got really uncomfortable and awkward. The food and service was not good. So I tipped 15 percent. I should have tipped nothing but that's not me and I was in the service industry so i understand everyone has a day off. The, I assume manager or owner came up to the table and told me I'm required to tip 18 percent. I said where does it say that? He says on the receipt. I told him that says suggestions not required and that I could give him 0 tip. He proceeds to make a huge scene about the 2 extra bucks I need to pay. I finally cave because my friends were very very uncomfortable. As we leave my friend said the guy was a talking shit in Vietnamese to his employees about us. My recommendation is to go somewhere else. This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had and all over 2 dollars that they didn't deserve. I see why they have a low yelp review.

Our group of five sampled a great variety from the menu, including the Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin, Crab Roe Soup Dumplings, Cucumber Salad, Lettuce Wraps, Cumin Fish, Stir-Fried Beef Tenderloin, Crispy Pork Ribs with Scallion Crisps and Mixed Grain & Purple Rice, Stir-Fried Beef with Chilies, and Kung Pao Chicken with white rice. The standout for me was the cumin fish. It was fried perfectly--crispy without being greasy--and the cumin added great flavor without overpowering the dish. The crispy pork ribs lived up to their name and had a nice kick of spice. The cucumber salad packed a serious garlic punch, which I really enjoyed. The Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin was something completely different from what I expected. It's sliced into long ribbons that resemble noodles or pasta. The flavor was excellent, although the texture took some getting used to. The only dish that fell a little short was the stir-fried beef tenderloin, which could have used a bit more seasoning. Everything else was delicious. The portions are enormous. At first the prices seemed a little high, but once the food arrived it made perfect sense. Every entrée was easily enough for two meals. One thing to keep in mind is that rice is ordered separately and isn't included with the entrées. Service was excellent throughout our meal. We arrived for lunch and didn't realize they close between lunch and dinner (lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). We ended up staying until about 2:45, and the staff never made us feel rushed even though they had technically closed. They greeted us promptly, took our drink orders, and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu without hovering. The restaurant is tucked away on the ground floor of an office building, so it's easy to drive right past if you aren't looking for it. Parking was plentiful, and the oversized booths comfortably fit all five of us without feeling cramped. If you're dining with a group and want to sample a variety of authentic dishes, Mama Chang is definitely worth the visit.

We arrived right when they opened around 11 AM on a weekend and were seated immediately since it wasn't too busy yet. One thing to note is that the entire party needs to be present before being seated, which they enforce, but it helps keep things moving smoothly once you're inside. The service felt traditional and efficient, with attentive push carts circulating constantly, making it easy to see what's fresh and grab dishes as they come by. The staff were also accommodating with a baby seat, which made the visit comfortable for families. The steamed cart is always my favorite, and Far East does it well. Standouts for me were the shrimp rice crepe (silky and delicate), shrimp dumplings (har gow) with plump, juicy filling, and the steamed ribs, which were tender and flavorful. The chicken feet and tripe were also well prepared -- classic dim sum staples done right. I also loved the sticky rice, which was fragrant and satisfying, along with two must-order bakery items: the pineapple buns and egg tarts. Both were fresh and comforting, with the egg tarts having that perfect balance of flaky crust and smooth custard. Overall, Far East delivers a solid, traditional dim sum experience -- lively carts, reliable favorites, and a welcoming environment for groups and families. Great spot to gather, share dishes, and enjoy a relaxed weekend dim sum meal. Definitely glad to have seating back again.

TL;DR - A onetime favorite Dim Sum favorite in MoCo, is now subpar, overpriced, and has horrible…read moreservice. Far East is a longtime staple in the DMV food scene, having been in operation since 1974. I was a few times a year patron leading up to 2019, and the last time I was there was in 2023. During my 2023 visit, the place was showing it's age with dingy matted carpeting and cramped dining room. Against my better judgement, I made the trek into Rockville to meet up with some folks for Sunday dim sum. IMHO, while it's true at one point, VA dim sum was inferior to it's MD siblings across the river, I'd say there are plenty of comparable if not BETTER places in VA. Our group was large (15), so we had to dine at two tables, as the largest table could only accomodate12. And note, for dim sum, Far East does not seat incomplete parties, so everyone arrive early. Also note, if you do choose to dine here, the parking lot is fairly small - but there is additional parking towards the back past the dumpsters. My recollection from 2023, was the selection of dishes was quite limited, and the 3-4 ladies who were pushing the steam carts, were peddling the same items over and over. That experience has not changed in 3 yrs. Upon sitting, our hungry group ordered dishes of shrimp dumplings (har gow), shumai, tofu rolls, rice rolls w/shrimp and beef, etc. Everything was fine; but nothing really stood out. The items were lukewarm, and cooled within a few minutes of being passed around the Lazy Susan. To me anyway, I found many of the dishes to be underseasoned...and when does a person characterize Chinese food as not being SALTY enough? The table chili oil was also quite bland. There was a good mix of fried chilis combined with oil, but there was just a hint of spice/heat with the predominant flavor being a heavy greasiness. Perhaps the worst part of the experience was the service. Even accepting that Chinese restaurants are notorious for "providing" legendary bad service, Far East exceeded that reputation. I understand that it was Sunday and the place was busy, but it took over 10 minutes for water and tea to arrive. And a few times, I literally had to get up from the table to flag down servers to refill empty water glasses and tea pots. Piles of dirty dishes kept piling up to the point where a few of us, took them to the bussers and food runners ourselves to make space for new dishes at the table. However, the worst incident was at the end when the servers and what I assume was the manager, rushed us to pay the bill since they needed the table, one of the staff was hurriedly cleaning the table, and spilled an entire glass of ice water on my friend's dress! He didn't even apologize, and when she went to complain to the manager, the only thing he said was, "it's only water, it will wash out." Wow! even by Chinese restaurant standards, that's bad!!! When the bill arrived, the total came out to roughly $35/person with tax and tip (gratuity is already included for larger parties, so be sure to double-check the bill). The meal was definitely NOT worth the $35, and for that amount, I could've had a much better and filling meal at Peter Chang Herndon - https://www.yelp.com/biz/peter-chang-herndon?osq=Peter+Chang This will undoubtedly be the last time I travel to Montgomery County for dim sum...and especially to Far East Restaurant.

We chose a couple of dim sum items and then ordered the rest off the menu. Cart food: shrimp dumplings were amazing, using whole shrimp in the dumpling, pork dumpling was hot and good. I was disappointed in the sesame bean balls, they were not fresh but I still ate them. The fresh cooked food was terrific. The pork, duck and half chickens were all hot and very fresh. My favorite is the red roast pork. We order a couple platters and they are always demolished. The chow fun was ok, thought the noodles were a bit too mushy. The rest of the dishes were good. Everyone enjoyed all the food. We needed many takeout containers. Service was very good. They have pitchers of water that were always refilled. We have lots of water drinkers in our group. Cleanup was always on point, dishes never stacked.

Service here is speedy and nice. We ordered a variety of dim sum dishes as well as their beef chow fun and their duck. I absolutely loved their beef chow fun (as it was super flavorful), their duck (which was so juicy), and their steamed rice roll with fried dough stick. Overall, everything was great and I think this is a really reliable spot for good dim sum!
