I will say coming here, it was worth it for a fresh dinner. I had sushi and ginger salad. The staff said hi and seated us immediately. I got the dinner special 3 regular rolls for 13.99. Went with the Hana Bomb ($11), katsu roll ($7), and sexy lobster roll ($18) this time. The hana bomb was slightly different on the outside with but it was still tasty. The katsu had absolutely no flavor to it, whereas the sexy lobster was a very thick roll with a decent taste. My kids and I tried Hana for the first time today for lunch. They have a good lunch menu ($8.99 for two rolls and a miso soup or ginger salad). You can add a third roll for an extra $3.00. All three of us ordered the sushi lunch. We also got a Godzilla roll to share, and I ordered some mackerel nigiri. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The server was very attentive. He also wore a mask. I'm not sure what business was like here pre-COVID, but there were probably three tables of people at any one time. I did see people picking up takeout too. M-F 4-6 pm 3 regular rolls for $14.95 was a nice birthday present for me (yes it was my birthday). The sashimi was fresh and properly cut. The spicy tuna was just the right mild heat. The mackerel was some of the best I've had. It wasn't mushy or overly vinegary. Try the spicy salmon because it was perfectly mild. The nigiri was just the right size for a bite. Don't expect this place to be all decked out with fancy decor, but do expect to get some great tasting sushi that was better than some stuff I've gotten from places that look like a million bucks, charge you a million bucks and get bait fish for dinner. I expected something more given the overall star rating. Maybe it got this because it is in a far north suburb of Orlando and people don't usually get good sushi. The fish was OK. Not the freshest but not a week old. The flavors were the issue. Really bland with not enough salt to help bring out the flavor of the fish. The soy sauce was all low, sodium and relatively tasteless. Service was underwhelming and kind of slow. They did not have any cold sake only warm. The salad was tiny with a couple pieces of iceberg lettuce and some ginger dressing. That was pretty tasty. Hana Sushi is located in the plaza next to the mall near Chili's and is a very small restaurant with about 20 different tables/booths max. The service was good, and the prices were reasonable for sushi...especially with the 15% off Yelp check in offer! We started with edamame, which I thought was delicious! I also had large hot sake that is $7.00 per carafe. It went down smooth and came out nice and hot! We all ordered sushi. I'm a sushi newbie, so I stayed away from anything raw. I ordered a roll that consisted of shrimp tempura, avocado, cream cheese, crab, and cucumber. I thought that one was very good, with the exception that some of the tempura batter was fairly soggy and I ended up peeling that part out of the sushi. The second roll I order was the teppan beef. All that roll had in it was avocado and beef, but it was actually very flavorful and I really enjoyed it, since it was a different twist on sushi that was more comfortable to me. Shumai was really mushy, tempura veggies were overly oily and the lettuce chicken wraps were just gross. something was really off since my stomach started to hurt right after we ate, needless to say, dinner did not last long in my stomach and we will leave it at that. They also gave me something that resembled a summer roll but it didn't say it came with a summer or spring roll so I just didn't eat it. My friend got a roll and they forgot the spicy mayo on top. The fish was really fresh and tasted great. The service on the other hand was not good at all. I went to dinner with friends and when my friend ordered he wanted to take cream cheese out of his roll and add eel. The girl taking our order looked at him like he was crazy and was confused what he wanted. He explained again and then asked the sushi chef if they could do that and it was a $7 up charge. That all would have been fine if her, the sushi chef, and another boy working there weren't laughing at the request. Where to start? Came for dinner. No drink refills. Wait staff got the order of gyoza wrong and took a long time to come back so we could let him know and get our correct order. The worst part was the pork ramen had no pork in it of any kind. My daughter dug through the dish looking for anything that could be identified as pork. The entire dish was ice cold. And when we asked about the missing pork, no sort of explanation was provided. We could hear a loud and angry discussion being had in the kitchen about the missing pork. Clearly, they saw no problem with this as we were still charged full price for noodles and broth. I was in the area and wanted sushi. I've passed by this place a couple times, and was ready to give it a try. I walked in the door, and it was dead silent. One table in the restaurant, two front of house staff, and no ambient music. Weird, but hey, sometimes quiet restaurants have a nice charm. My guest and I got iced tea. The tea taste like it was brewed that morning and sat in the tin container all day. Very acidic and metallic tasting. I got one of my go to rolls, a Green Dragon (shrimp tempura, avocado, cream cheese and eel sauce). It was ok. I could taste that the fry oil needs to be changed. My shrimp taste like everything fried in the fryer for the past fry cycle. It wasn't terrible, but it's definitely on my list of least appealing sushi rolls. I got the hibachi vegetable dinner, and my guest got the shrimp fried rice. My meal came with miso soup. The soup was nice. The veggie plate was pretty good, but lacked variety. It was broccoli, carrots, zucchini and onions...lots of zucchini and onions. It came with a tiny cup of white rice. Not terrible for a $10 hibachi meal, but I expected a bit more. Some fried rice maybe? Noodles would be cool too. The fried rice my guest go was good. I could taste the Mirin (rice wine vinegar) it was cooked in, it added an interesting flavor. There was a good portion of shrimp in there! Not a bad experience, but nothing that wow'd me. The food was average at an average price. I could have gone to any sushi place in central Florida and got the same thing at better quality. Four stars for a reasonable sushi bar in Altamonte Springs. Hana Sushi is in a small location that is tucked away in a busy plaza, but they make it work. My husband wasn't hungry (surprisingly) that night for dinner so we shared a few rolls and a seaweed salad. The cucumber roll was very good and I enjoyed the crunch from the cucumber. We also ordered spicy salmon, crunchy tuna, and a specialty roll. No complaints from the clean plate club. We used the Yelp check-in offer to get a discount on our meal (thanks Yelp!). Great presentation and quality of food! Don't let the small space fool you! We stopped by for dinner with a friend and were promptly greeted and shown to our table. The space is fairly small, with maybe 8 tables. The sushi is prepared in the same room you're in and you can watch them make it. I was a bit nervous as the space look kinda run-down when we walked in, but I trusted my friend and the reviews. I'm glad I did! We ordered the beef negimaki and these little fried avocado tuna boats as appetizers. So delicious! I really enjoyed both. The presentations were really nice and I appreciated the negimaki chopped into smaller bite-sized pieces. I ordered the Banzai to drink, which was a perfectly sweet sake and plum wine mix over ice. Yum! For sushi I ordered a Rainbow roll and the Walking roll, which I hoped didn't grow any legs. Both were so fresh! Extra spicy mayo on the side and they had brown rice available for a dollar.
