The Review: This has become my favorite ramen restaurant in town between its cozy, upscale atmosphere to its flavorful menu. Don't let the small building fool you. They have a full sushi menu (made to order by a professional chef) and offer a variety of meal options from ramen to donburi and more. The staff are always excited to have you, and the kitchen does a fantastic job offering quick turnaround without sacrificing flavor. I usually order the ramen, but I've also had the donburi along with a variety of their apps and everything has been fantastic! They even recently converted my mom into a (non-fish) sushi eater. For some reason she decided she wanted to try some sushi and we shared the katsu and asparagus and she enjoyed both. Kombu is our favorite ramen spot! I usually order the Creamy Vegan Ramen and my partner enjoys the Mayu Tonkotsu. He also often orders the Chicken Karaage appetizer. This time we decided to switch it up! We started with the Takoyaki, and oh my goodness, what an experience! When it was placed on our table, the bonito flakes almost made the dish look alive. It added a nice smoky flavor. The okonomiyaki sauce was savory and paired well with the octopus balls. It was so good I can't wait to go back and order it again. I ordered the Tofu Teriyaki Donburi and my partner ordered the Gyudon. We both thought the rice was cooked to perfection. My Donburi was sauced appropriately and the veggies were cooked well- not too soft. The fried tofu was fine, but I don't think the panko breading added much because it didn't arrive crispy. I have been wanting try this place out for a while now. Came here with one of my friends for lunch to try it out. The staff here were really nice and I liked the aesthetic of the restaurant. I got the Pick 2 Sushi Combo w Salad. The Ginger Salad had good flavor to it, I just wish the greens were a bit more bite sized. The sushi here was okay, it had a slight fishiness to it though. I did like their sushi rice it had a good consistency/bite. The Matcha Tiramisu was quite good, not too sweet and the perfect amount of matcha. First, this location has a small parking lot because it's a small space. DO NOT BE FOOLED! I highly would recommend going for lunch. Their lunch special is amazing. (See: menu photo) Also, because it is not a large space, it create a very intimate environment. The pricing and options in the menu are perfect for a date night and are adequately priced. Try the spicy crispy salmon or spicy crispy tuna. It's a unique take that I've not ever tried but may have to go back just for this. The service was extremely quick and perfectly took care of all our needs. All in all, I'd go back. Went with several friends for lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant probably has about 10 tables total, so it is not that big. We ordered each type of food on the menu (sushi, rice bowl, ramen, dumplings) . The sushi wasn't bad- just a basic tastes and nothing fancy. The ramen was mediocre - one of them was okay but the other one that my friend ordered said it had no flavor and tasted just like water and salt. The beef rice teryki donburi was not good at all, we actually sent it back. The meat was super tough and not juicy. It looked like it wasn't seared at all and but boiled. It also had no flavor. Kombu exterior and interior is trendy and cozy. This building has parking spaces for convenience. It's located on Aloma Ave in Winter Park, so I've eaten here a handful of times over the years for a quick lunch. They use to have a Galbi lunch, but it's since been discontinued. Kombu offers a fair selection of sushi and lunch menu during the day. Soup or salad comes with the entrees. The miso soup was standard but better than most sushi spots in town. I felt their ginger dressing tasted more like vinaigrette than ginger. We only ordered the Eel Donburi and Steak Bento Box since we were rushed for time that day. The eel was good, but average compared to other sushi restaurants and served over long grained rice. The steak was chewy, yet the teriyaki sauce was flavorful so it made up for the dish. You can't go wrong with California roll. The sushi was also mediocre. I'm allergic to Escolar and Tilapia raw so when I asked the server if I could switch out the item, I was told it wasn't possible. Unless I opted for all California Roll and no sushi pieces. The service was lackluster. The gentleman who waited on us seemed to lack confidence in his knowledge. He didn't bother asking management regarding my allergy comment to raw Escolar or Tilapia. Also, he didn't come back to check on us about our experience. Only the assistant server refilled our water. Overall, if you're looking for a quick bite with no expectations, this restaurant is the one for you. I don't know if I'd come back again, but if I had to, I would probably give it one last chance to redeem themselves, I'm all for supporting local small eateries, however, it has consistently disappointed me so far. Ohhhh wow, is this going to become my new go-to sushi spot? Normally I have a place that I automatically go to when I want sushi. It's familiar, decently priced, and not far. In contrast, Kombu is about 5 minutes further from my usual place, a little more expensive, but the quality is better, and the place is nicer. They have decently priced lunch specials. Also, Kombu seems to have more authentic Japanese items, including Takoyaki which is one of my favorites. I'm really looking forward to trying more of their food. read more

Definitely the perfect time to grab some fresh sushi for lunch. I was greeted as soon as I entered the location. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout the whole time I was there. My pick during this time was their pick 2 lunch special. That is a total of 16 pieces of sushi in total for only 13.95 ,basically 14, dollars. I tried the Tampa and Crunch roll. Have been to Kombu at least 10 times in the past year and everything was pretty good but tonight was our last night there. They can't handle a busy Friday or Saturday night, we waited on our food while others were served who came in after us. Also, the sushi rolls were not good. Never again. read more

We'd driven past this place a few times and had wanted to give it a try. Always nice to find a new ramen place as we are big ramen fans. We went for lunch on a Thursday and it was very quiet. The service was excellent and the servers were friendly and accomodating. Tonkatsu mayu- very fatty and oily broth filled with lots of pan fried garlic. The taste might be too strong for some, but we like the broth nice and oily with all that garlic. The noodles were average and could have been better, chashu pork was nice and tender. Eggs were cooked to perfection and delicious, full of flavour. Tonkatsu was very similar to the mayu, minus all the garlic. I'd also ordered the Thai ice tea (kind of random for a Japanese ramen sushi place, but I'm not complaining). I've come to this place a few times before for takeout, but this is my first time dining in and I absolutely loved it. First of all, I was impressed by how good the customer service was and how quickly the food came out. It only took 10 minutes for the food to come out. And the food was delicious - the same great quality that I had the first time I came here and every time since then. The broth is flavorful, but not too salty, the noodles are the perfect texture. They already have all my favorite toppings in the Mayu Ramen with fried garlic, chashu, scallions, and ajitama eggs, plus more tasty additions with the kikurage and menma. I also love how the chashu is still as perfect as I remember, still flavorful and the right texture. I'll definitely be coming back many, many times. read more

The food was really good and impressive but I didn't have enough to declare it a 5 so I decided to give it 4 stars but it's def one of the better Asian restaurants in Orlando. (Hidden gem ) The takoyaki might be my new favorite Asian appetizer!!! I'm a big fan of grilled octopus so I was tempted to try this and BOY was it a pleasant surprise! The easiest way for me to describe this is to say it's like a coxinha without cheese. This would've been a higher score if it had more octopus in it, but the lack of meat hurt the score. Also, the mayo and okonomiyaki sauce (kind of a sweeter, more tangy, and less salty version of Worcestershire sauce) added a great compliment to the dish. The chicken broth in the Shoyu ramen was by far the BEST broth I've ever had in ramen! No disrespect to the rest of the dish but the broth itself is at least a 9/10. I wish I could buy the broth at a store so I can make a soup out of it cause it's that good! Oh, also ordered the Takoyaki, or fried octopus balls, as an appetizer. The best part was the appetizer of octopus, although the main dishes were also good. While the ramen was good, it wasn't the best I've tasted. The ramen's heat was sufficient but the broth a bit lacking in flavor.
