Totoya Sushi is a little place, randomly on the side of the road, exactly in a spot where you wouldn't think to look. But it's there, overlooking the lake, waiting to offer you delicious sushi. The staff are always very nice, helpful, and patient as you look through the menu. With a huge selection of fish and veggie combinations, the menu has something for everyone. (I'm sorry I don't have a menu picture for reference!) The ingredients are always fresh and the rolls are made in house, to order. I have never had a bad roll - or a bad meal. While the seating can be cramped with a full house, the views make up for that easily. If you manage to get a seat in the back, you can look out over the lake (which absolutely has gators because I saw one on my last afternoon visit.) There are booths, tables, and a large sushi bar - again, something for everyone! I highly recommend checking this spot out if you are a sushi lover like me. Wow. The size and quality of these rolls were just spectacular. Everything tasted super fresh. My mom devoured her dragon roll and I was able to scrounge up a bite. The eel was cooked perfectly and with just the right amount of eel sauce. Was visiting the area and decided to stop here for dinner. We came like within the last hour of them being open and they were so kind to us as they were preparing to close. I ordered the miso soup and then two rolls, the sea world roll and the crazy roll. Everything I had was delicious. All the food was fresh tasting and the crazy roll pieces were so big and filling. I was eager to try Toyota Sushi after reading all the glowing reviews, but I have to admit, I wasn't as impressed as I had hoped. I decided to treat my wife to a lovely day out with lunch and shopping, and Toyota Sushi was one of the top places on our list to visit while in the area. We arrived around 1:30 pm on Thursday, 1/2/25. Unfortunately, the timing wasn't ideal--there was a delivery happening at the same time, and the kitchen's main doors (normally kept closed) were wide open for the delivery driver. The view of the kitchen and the disorganization inside was off-putting, and it wasn't just due to the delivery; it left a lasting impression. The main entrance to the restaurant is located to the left of the delivery area, and you have to push aside a curtain with a symbol on it to enter. It felt a bit strange. Once inside, there's a small vestibule adorned with Polaroid photos on the walls, but it wasn't clear who they were of or why they were there. Were they employees or customers? The lack of context added to the overall confusion. As we made our way into the reception area, we noticed a wooden decorative piece hanging from the ceiling, which was covered in a layer of dust--definitely unappealing. We were greeted promptly and seated without delay, and the staff were exceptionally friendly. However, the longer we stayed, the more we noticed how dirty and dusty everything was. It started to make us wonder, if the dining area and restrooms were in such a condition, what might the kitchen look like? If you visit, take a moment to look UP--the umbrellas and metal framework supporting the lighting may look good from a distance, but up close, they're covered in years of dust. Sadly, this issue seemed to extend to almost everything in the dining area and restrooms, including the plastic flowers. Another noteworthy aspect was the volume of the music. The first table we were seated at had a beautiful view of Pearl Lake, which would've been great, but the music was so loud that we had to request a move to a quieter booth. On a positive note, our server, Royce, was attentive and friendly--thank you, Royce, for your excellent service! If you decide to dine here, I recommend requesting him as your server. As for the food, we had a good experience. I ordered the Chicken and Steak Hibachi with fried rice ($15.95), which came with a choice of soup or salad. I opted for the salad with ginger dressing, which was delicious. Nancy chose the "Any 3 Sushi Rolls" ($17.95), which included a California Roll, Crunch Spicy Tuna Roll, and Shrimp Tempura Roll, and she also selected a side salad. The salads arrived quickly and were fresh, with the ginger dressing being particularly tasty. Soon after, Royce brought out our meals. I have to say, the hibachi and sushi were both delicious. My steak was cooked perfectly to medium, and the chicken had great flavor. Nancy really enjoyed the shrimp tempura roll, though she wasn't as fond of the crunchy spicy tuna roll. I, on the other hand, thought the spicy tuna roll was quite good. Overall, while the food and service were good, the cleanliness issues were hard to overlook, and I'm not sure I would return. Came here for lunch January 2nd 2025. My first impression walking in the door was it seemed a little dirty, As I inspected it more yep... it needs a good cleaning. Dust and cobwebs on lights and plastic plants. I am majorly allergic to dust. I don't know how long this place has been here but definitely needs an upgrade. All those plastic plants need to go or be washed. My second issue with this place is the music was very LOUD. They set us by the windows which is beautiful but we had to move to a booth. It was a little bit better but still felt like I was at a dance club while I was eating. Waiter was friendly and food came out fast. Okay onto the food... We got three sushi rolls with Salad and Scott got a platter with chicken and steak rice. The food was good. Nothing over the top everything tasted like it should and for the Lunch price it was reasonable. Although...I got a roll that I didn't like it . It was the Spicy tuna. Had a weird flavor. And I requested not to have egg in my rice and a young lady told me that the rice is already premade. Yeah, that threw me off for a bit, but she said she can see what she can do. My food came out as you can see the picture there is no egg, but there is corn in the fried rice. I have never seen corn in fried rice. Shrimp was I feel over cooked it was hard. My favorite rolls out of the 3 I tried was probably the firecracker roll and the lava roll! The food wasn't overall salty. I personally would have preferred the spicy krab to be a little more spicy (I just really like occasional spicy food) The staff was very nice and they let us take our time to look over the menu before ordering. Even though the restaurant was a bit busy since it was dinner rush, they came by pretty timely the entire dinner, so we didn't have to wait too long for anything. The lake view was really pretty and the decorations were very nice. Just the right amount of decorations to feel cozy and everything, I think I would like to come back and try the lunch specials! My nephew went here the other night and posted pics on his IG. He said the rolls were delicious so I happen to be in the Altamonte springs area this early evening so I made a quick stop for dinner. There was a couple or two already enjoying the quiet atmosphere and I was quickly seated. The chairs were all wearing Santa colors and their Christmas tree was by the entrance. I was informed I made it in time for the Happy hour ($9) so I ordered the dynamite roll which comes fried with white fish, red onion and avocado. It has quite a bite to it. The other roll is went with was the lava roll which had tempura shrimp and all the mixing but topped with kani and scallops ($16). The rolls had a good size to them, filled deliciously and steaming hot. I enjoyed every bite, savoring the crispy tastes of the fried exteriors of each roll. That area's parking is pretty packed since it has the Crystal ballroom and Froggers all competing for parking spots. Wow! I've had this place bookmarked for so long and I'm so happy I finally stopped by to check it out. We were greeted with a smile and asked if we wanted to sit by the window for a view of the lake. It was still good though for sure. For sushi I chose the 3 roll combo for $17.95. It also came with a delicious ginger house salad. The rolls I chose were Spicy Fried Oyster, Philly Roll, and Eel and avocado roll. I really enjoyed all of the rolls. I appreciated that the rolls stayed together when you picked them up with the chopsticks. Presentation was lovely, too. This is a lot of food but a great value. We also ordered the Sea World roll. This was fantastic (especially if you're a fan of masago). The music was upbeat and fun so I was "that person" doing the happy dance while eating my sushi. Sushi boogie! Picked this place out for valentines and it's pretty nice for a date night. Definitely resembles a Japanese restaurant with a lake view. We ordered their fish special of the day which was the ootoya premium sashimi, 2 piece of 7 different raw fish. It is thick slices and comes with a bowl of rice, for $56 it was pretty good. We also ordered fox lady and ootoya roll. Fox lady fits more of our liking, it had a hint of kimchi sauce which sounds odd at first. Ootoya roll was different especially with having 3 different fish in one bite but was too mushy for us. Our waiter was nice and quick with water, getting our order and our bill. Our go-to sushi place! I have been here multiple times and I enjoy their food, ambiance, but service is a hit-or-miss. We waited 45 minutes for a table for two and a high chair which is understandable, it's a small restaurant and it was packed! As soon as we got sat we went ahead and ordered since it was already getting late. I specifically told our waitress that my husband couldn't have avocado on his roll. His roll came out with avocado and we had to return it, I kindly asked if we could switch it to a different roll to make sure they didn't just take off the avocado like it's been done before at other restaurants (husband is allergic) The new roll took soo long to come out, my son and I were already done eating and were ready to go by the time his roll came out. Our server never apologized nor any manager even though we were clearly waiting on the roll and looking around. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing due to poor service and an unfair situation with gratuity. We came as a group of four adults and one one-year-old child. The child did not eat anything, and slept almost the entire time. Despite this, the waitress(Jessi B B) counted the baby as an additional guest, which pushed our party size to 5+ and triggered an automatic 18% gratuity. Service throughout the meal was slow and inattentive. We had to wait a long time for the waitress multiple times as she kept disappearing. One of the dishes (sushi) was served with a sauce that we explicitly asked to exclude, so it had to be remade. Later, we requested several additional sauces, which were completely forgotten and had to be requested again. At the end, when we noticed the automatic 18% tip applied because the baby was counted as a guest, we spoke with the manager. He agreed that this was incorrect and told us the gratuity would be removed. However, nothing was fixed. The full amount, including the 18% gratuity, was charged on both checks (we were two families). I understand tipping policies, but counting a one-year-old child who didn't eat as a paying guest to force automatic gratuity is unreasonable. Combined with the poor service, this left a very bad impression. I hope management addresses this issue, because this experience was not acceptable. read more
