Nothing spectacular, I agree with posts that staff was friendly, but that Management needs to improve. Went in sat at sushi bar, bill came out to $65. I checked my bank account the next morning and the restaurant had charged the $65 (+tip) AND put a $150 hold on my account that wouldn't drop for 7 days!!! I have NEVER had an restaurant do that before, perhaps a hotel or car rental ... but a sushi bar!? Come on! Food wasn't so great that I would come back, especially after this experience. read more

Food was very good however, server was very confused the day we went. There was a lot of peoples rolls on other peoples plates and, had to do a lot of shuffling around to make it right. They should just bring one plate for each person and, they placed rolls on plates like a buffet. Once again, food was great,. portions were good. The food was good. Miso soup was yummy, my daughter said her yellowtail was excellent. My combo udon noodles were okay, mostly just salty, but the shrimp were firm and sweet. My son said his pork katsu was good. The problem was the service. We were there for the Tuesday Night Classic at the adjacent Harkins theater, and came into the restaurant with slightly more than an hour until showtime. That should be sufficient for three simple dinners and no appetizers. I know Tuesday is traditionally the slowest night of the week in the restaurant business, but that is no excuse for the incredibly slow service we received. It took over ten minutes between getting our drinks and being able to order entrees. We seriously considered leaving a few bucks on the table for the tea and leaving. My daughter's and mine came out more than ten minutes before my son's, with the excuse, "It takes a little bit longer in the fryer." Really? I'm sorry but any chef who's not an idiot knows how to time entrees so that the whole table goes out together or close to it. I saw employees near the sushi bar watching TV and playing with their phones. Everything took so long the we had to ask for the check immediately when my son's food arrived and he ate in a hurry because we were going to be late for the movie. We drove down from Mesa to see the movie with my daughter who is working in Tucson over the summer, and this restaurant turned it into a stressful experience. We won't be back. read more

The sushi is good, not amazing. I didn't like that they put those oranges near the raw fish so the fish was tasting like orange. Then we got the boat for 2 and it had 3 sushi of each kind. If we didn't know better, we would be fighting over the 3rd of each kind lol read more

Ive been here a handful of times and rather satisfied with the visit. Hana Tokyo is a nicely laid out restaurant and Im always surprised by how slow it is when I go there. The service is nice & friendly and they often have daily specials. I usually stick with the bento box dinners, which I feel are the best value. I haven't tried much in the line of sushi here, but from what I have tried every thing tasted fine & fresh to me. I would definitely recommend if your looking for a bite to eat before or after a movie at the Harkin's next door or after shopping around the Spectrum Mall. read more

The decor is beautiful. They have three spots to choose from for seating: bar, sushi bar, table. I really like the atmosphere and space in here, its very comforting and relaxing. The food is good, and I would come back again. I ordered the seafood soba and the tuna and cucumber happy hour roll. The sushi roll was on par with what I expected and quite good. The seafood soba is a big bowl of food, easily splittable into two meals or between two people. I'm not too familiar with soba, but the bowl here is very light in flavor with a generous amount of vegetables and a decent amount of seafood toppings. I was initially turned off by how 'bland' it was, but the more I ate it, the better it tasted. It takes a bit of flavor adjustment to get used to, but it is good. I will probably order something different in the future though, but that's just me. I wound up getting the vanilla fried ice cream for dessert. It looks delicious. It is delicious. Treat yourself, its delicious. I just wish the fried shell was a little warmer when it came out. read more

Always a great time! We usually do the hibachi and the chefs are super in accommodating our five year old. It is a little more expensive so this is a special occasion choice for us. Great lunch specials are heavily discounted from dinner. read more

I don't come to this part of town very often, and it's almost always to catch a movie with friends at the Harkins right next door. But when I do, I try to make it to Hana Tokyo for their awesome happy hour specials. The first time I went there, I had the chicken tempura which just tasted heavenly and perfectly done. Then, when I had their California sushi roll, I was hooked. A wide selection of rolls are available at $3 during happy hour, among other delectable food on this special menu. How can you beat that? I usually get the eel roll and California rolls while my friends have tried almost every other one on the menu and the quality and taste is just superb. The decor is very nice, atmosphere is relaxed, and service friendly, helpful and attentive. There's plenty of options to choose from so we'll definitely keep coming back to try them all! read more

You have to try the "scorpion"!!! It is our favorite. Even if you're not a sushi lover you need to try this. It's in the shape of a scorpion, they get a 10 for presentation, but you're not actually eating scorpion (in case you were worried). We also enjoy their tempura appetizers as well as their hibachi grill, where they cook on a grill at your table...so fun! We like the environment and the service. It is large enough, including the patio, that we have never had to wait for a table. I would recommend this place! It's a little pricey but it's worth it:) read more

I ordered takeout, and i didn't leave a tip since it was takeout and the hostess provided zero service to me. Another hostess then comes in and to talk to the other hostess, all in spanish, mind i am hispanic myself. To ask how much the tip was and then get angry because it was $0. My total was $32, i was not provided with a receipt copy either. This morning my credit card statement shows i was charged $38. So the hostess gave themselves a tip without my consent. I wish zero stars was possible because that's what they deserve. My father and I were seated and waited 10 minutes for someone to come. Once we finally got our water she left without saying anything and we had tons of questions, because the menu is so hard to read. We were going to order something with 9 pieces of sushi and a tuna roll. But the 9 pieces of sushi aren't up for you to pick, you get whatever the chef wants to give you. I want to be able to choose what I'm going to be eating. We got up and left because that is outrageous. On top of our waitress taking forever to come back to help us figure this out. Went for lunch the other day, it was not busy, many tables were open. The hostess told us it would be a few minutes. Which was weird because we could see all the empty tables and she just sat on her phone for a few minutes before grabbing menus and seating us. She did the same thing to a couple with a baby but the mom actually had the sense to tell her something after which the hostess gave them menus and sat them at the table. love love LOVE this restaurant. I finally decided to stop in last night after passing it and having so many of those "i have to go there" moments. It was definitely worth it. There is a very extensive menu of items to order for those that are not sushi fans. The atmosphere inside was very calm and relaxing for a restaurant. Our service (i cant remember his name unfortunately...i'll find out when i go back lol) was a-w-e-s-o-m-e!. He made some suggestions and was very helpful when it came to answering my questions. I even managed to get a free sample of something I was wondering what it was, as well as an extra bowl of soup (which my entree did NOT come with it) at no charge. I ordered the Angry Dragon and it was great! I get full very easily and find it hard to finish my food when I order out (at places where I can't order from the kid's menu lol), but I ate every piece since it was so good. After living in Japan for a few years and trying plenty of sushi restaurants in Tucson, I can definitely say this is my favorite-hands down. My daughter and I were out and about and she was 'craving' the Volcano rolls and knew that Hana Tokyo made the best, she knew my favorites are miso soup and tempura shrimp and she ordered those. The hot green tea that she ordered was not hot and the second pot that replaced it was not much better, she gave up and just drank it. The miso soup that would ordinarily be brought before any of the entrees, did not arrive until both entrees had been served. The $14 tempura shrimp entree came with vegetables, it was obvious that the vegetables had been fried with the tempura and just as obvious that the shrimp had not, it had been breaded. Two waitresses and the manager acted at though she did not know what she was talking about but did take the platter back and when it was replaced it was correct. The manager told us that he would give us a discount and he did, he took away the price of the two miso soup's, not the item that had been misrepresented! We will not be returning. read more

We've celebrated many special occasions here in the past, so again we went to celebrate my birthday. My husband, 2 sons and I had got there and got seated at a hibachi. We got our drinks put in our order and a few minutes later we were asked to move to a bigger hibachi to join another party because it was a Wednesday night and they didn't want to use more than one hibachi, so we moved (mind you we had put in our order) so in walks a party of about 8 but they were still waiting for 4 more so the waiter wanted to put our order on hold until the rest of the other party got there and decided what they wanted order and again this was after we had been there about 20 min and put our order in. We've been there many times and for the 4 of us to eat off the hibachi is easily over $100 so for them to act like our business didn't matter was really disappointing and because of that I'll never go back. read more

I went to Hana Tokyo for the first time with a Meet Up Group on Monay. We enjoyed a large selection of Cooked items & Sushi. The 18.50 Bento Box B was gigantic & a great value. Most of us received a free happy sushi roll by using the yelp app. One of the ladies said the Fried Cheese Cake was the best she ever had in her life. The server Julie was awesome! I have been to a lot of restaurants in town. This place is looks very nice on the inside the service however is terrible. When I went it was very slow and the food took an extremely long time to come out when I had received my food the food was cold. And I'm not saying cold like ice cold it was cold like room temperature. The amount was a little bit of food there's soup was literally broth from base , with two paper thin pieces of mushroom. Overall this place is a rip off and I will never go back I would recommend that nobody goes there unless they like to get ripped off. They need to add more food to their dishes if they are going to charge the way they do. Or at least step up on the service. But the quality of food was definitely unimpressive. I like to try new places I'm disappointed that I tried this one. Thank you Hana Tokyo I will never return. Either you step it up on the food and service or you will go out of business I should have left when I saw the empty dining room. read more
