Seriously why do I keep thinking it was just a bad night for them when really they're just a bad sushi restaurant! Three times all fails before I've finally had enough and write this review! Pros: it's in auburn & you can sit outside - that's it! Cons: OVERPRICED first off, fish portions in rolls are barely there and have zero fresh flavor. 90% of every roll option is overstuffed with fake crab. Sauce on top is slim to none with no creativity of flavor to them. Rolls come out at all diff times causing you to ask where certain Ones are they forgot (like ummm hello your appetizer first would be nice before dinner) have to ask waiter/waitress several times for basic forgotten things like wasabi/ginger, soy sauce, silverware, water, your ROLLS, etc. they don't offer free refills instead sell you canned soda with a glass of ice for $1.95! You express your allergic to Something request it left out of all rolls to only find it still on one of the three rolls they brought out on the save plate even. Avocado was a strange color like they put something in it to Preserve it longer indicating to me it's not fresh--- ewww Won't take reservations, owners are unfriendly, and don't bother greeting you upon arrival It's more like your an inconvenience and they claim all Red cap soy sauces are filled with low sodium (green caps) yet they don't taste like it and if they screw up your order giving your rolls to the wrong person in your group yet on the same plate as that persons rolls, sorry it's your fault order another and pay for both anyways! Did I mention OVERPRICED! Maybe for those who've yet to experience great Sushi I can see why you may be fooled into accepting this place but I've had great sushi and at more than one place so I can't accept what they get away with here by giving them my business anymore. Hoping someone better comes to steal their thunder soon we could use a great true sushi place up here! Meantime, I'd rather spend the gas and extra drive to some excellent real fish n sushi in Roseville at Ninja in downtown Roseville or Sky Sushi off Foothills Blvd in Rsvl and pay less for more too!!! read more

Their staff is wonderfulWe stopped in after work with our baby to grab some sushi for dinner. They were super sweet to him, brought us out some edamame on the house to keep him happy and busy while we waited, they were helpful in helping select the rolls as well. The wait was a good 1/2 hour but they were busy and we didn't call ahead so that couldn't be helped. Their rolls are pretty large, we got the Tsunami, Caterpillar, New Auburn and Sex on the Beach, between my husband and I we had leftovers!! This is my favorite Sushi place in Auburn! I order the Golden Gate Roll at least twice a month. Everyone is always so friendly. Food is always tasty and fresh. Normally my husband and I love Hanami, and will drive the 30-40 minutes to go there when we want sushi. Unfortunately, our most recent experience 1/28/12 wasn't so great....We had our 3-1/2 year old with us, and he was the last one to get his food. We had ordered an appetizer, two rolls and a kids plate. The staff was super accommodating when I asked for no teryaki on his chicken, but I had to ask if his dinner was coming, as we had received our two rolls, then our appetizer, with no mention of his dinner. We will definitely go back, like I said we really enjoy the food and atmosphere, next time it will be a date night. read more

This was the worst we EVER had, we came in around 2 p.m. they were closing soon. So we chose to order to go. To make it quick for them. The California rolls came without any avocado or cucumbers. The tempura shrimp roll was just the same as the California rolls with a couple of shrimp tails at each end. The JJ roll was really light on fish, very small and poorly spiced. It was very disappointing. It was $60 and we feel cheated. We will be telling everyone we know about this. They are a rip off. read more

Walked in at 8:40pm to sit and eat sushi and was told they only are doing to go orders. Hours on the door said open till 9pm. A bit disheartened ...waiting for our to go order and they turn "open" sign off at 8:50pm. Change your hours if you want to be closed by 8:30pm. We ordered sashimi and were served nigiri... When we asked to correct it, the sushi chef took the nigiri cuts and removed the rice and re-served the incorrectly cut fish. I also didn't like their sauces, way too sweet. They also used a sweet sticky rice which really ruined their rolls. I'm not going back again. read more

Auburn had a shining star but tonight service and care for the customer went out the window. To start we received our appetizers after our 3 of our dinners and a hair was served with my wife's meal which came out 3 mins later than even the appetizers. At that point we decided it would be our last time coming. When the owner refused to take my wife's meal off our bill because they remade it (mistakes happen right) but they magically remade it in less than 5 min (thus removed the hair and reserved) we decided Yelp users need to know this is no longer the shining star it once was. Sushi is all about freshness and presentation. Dining out is all about service. The freshness was there but F- on presentation and D on service. Our order was simple: Potstickers, 1 specialty roll and a seaweed/assorted Fish salad. The potsticker app was lackluster-4 small dumplings on a bed of lettuce with a non traditional dipping sauce (it tasted like straight soy). The specialty roll had 0 sauce or garnish other than some cucumber strips that appeared as though they had been cut several days ago and then just a white rice roll on a plate. We did not even receive a ramekin to mix our wasabi and soy which is like not getting syrup at a pancake house! The salad arrived in a very basic coffee shop salad bowl, random pieces of fish, greens and dressing; it looked like an 18 year old bachelor tossed it together. Oh, and it came with no seaweed in the seaweed salad! I sent it back and upon it's return the seaweed had just been added and smushed around; the owner or manager still had gloves on and said she just grabbed a handful and put it in. This not so great salad was $15.00. Flavors: Well, Ok. Service: 1. Our table was wiped down and left very wet. 2. One server spilled soy sauce on my wife's napkin and told us she did but didn't offer to replace the napkin (I guess she expected my wife to put it on her lap with wet sauce on it). 3. Several servers walked by us after we were finished and one even asked if we needed anything else, however no one cleared the pile of dirty plates. 4. When I asked for the check it didn't arrive after at least 5 minutes so i went inside to find our server yacking with the owner or manager. Whew...not so great. read more

I love sushi...With that said, the sushi was sub-standard. The rice was not firm enough to hold up in the rolls or the nigiri. Most of the sauces had the same taste, which was a disappointment as we tried 10 different rolls. The presentation wasn't all that either. Customer service was good, but the rolls weren't the best. Most of them were California rolls with the crab meat and rice in the middle (cheap filler). The seaweed was also chewy and many of the shrimp shells were hidden in the rolls so I'd chew on the shells by accident. read more

First time here. I usually go to Ninja Sushi which is right down the street however today they weren't open and it was a lil after 11am. So I called here and first off whoever answered the phone was very friendly and sounded so pleasant. Me and my son decided to leave ninja sushi bc we were tired of waiting. This is our go to for sushi in Auburn. The sushi is always fresh and they have a wide variety of rolls as well as pepper fin which is our favorite. We always try at least one new roll each time and have never had one we didn't like. The downstairs is a little small and can get a bit cozy, but the upstairs seems more roomy. This was the best sushi I've ever had in my life. It isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for. I would have given this a 5 star, but the service was unbearably slow. I think a few people called in sick or something because the place was packed and there was only one server and one sushi chef. It took over an hour for the food to come out. I was about ready to eat my napkin. When I went to pay they seemed very apologetic and the lady almost cried, but I said it was the best sushi and it was worth the wait.
