We called to order and got a Philadelphia roll, rainbow roll, orange caterpillar and soft shell crab roll. We were shocked when we opened everything because there was an extra roll, add-ons like seaweed salad, crab salad, fruit, Japanese candies and drinks! Because it's in the Sorrento valley area, it's actually much quieter on the weekends and very popular during the weekdays because of all the neighborhood companies. I've been here a couple of times and I always get the chirashi. Best bang for your buck. It's super tasty. There is only one man that works there. He takes orders and makes the food. There is always edamame brought out as an appetizer. And at the end, he brings out a little snack bag for you to take home and also free sliced fruit as a dessert. This place is a hidden gem when you are craving sashimi or sushi. I placed an order over the phone, and was quoted 25-30 minutes. Right when I got there, the food was already ready before the time was up. The owner chatted with me and also kindly gave some additional complimentary treats (top of the photo), including a can of Calpico, green tea, fruit, chocolates, and candy. I ordered the following: -Chirashi ($24.95): This was by far our favorite. It came with a variety of fish including salmon, tuna, and yellowtail. All of the fish was extremely fresh and the portion was enormous. -California roll ($8.95): This roll surprisingly came with fish eggs on top. I thought that was a nice touch because it elevated the California roll. -Rainbow roll ($15.95): This roll also came with fish eggs on top. This was also tasty and filling. There were complimentary sides that came with each box of food: edamame, seaweed salad, and crab salad. Each side was so tasty, especially the crab salad. With the box of rolls, the owner also included four pieces of the crab salad roll. Overall, this restaurant really goes above and beyond to make sure you are full and happy. I've gone a few times and so far just a one man team. Other reviews indicate one or two more work there but this one man is a tremendous hard worker. We've only gone during non rush hour and call in advance for togo orders since we know it's one guy. All times the food is good quality, quantity and very fairly priced for what you get. Your order will be made to order, so there is a bit of a wait, so don't come if you're in a rush, or make sure to call it in 20-30mins before your arrival. We always get the Chirashi Bowl. It's always so fresh and very large amount, could be shared. A great variety of sashimi. The best amount of food for the price you pay compared to other places. We often get to-go and it always comes with some edamame, treats/fruits, and mini water bottle. We've also had other items and everything we've had never disappoints. Absolutely love this place! After years of COVID-19 we finally can dine in with Huisan. The sashimi plate is made of the freshest and tastiest fish. Sushi rolls are fabulous. Huisan is running the place by himself, but his attention to detail and quality of service are above all other restaurants. The restaurant reminded us of our recent visit to Japan. It's a small place and run by one person, but it's 100% worth it. Prices are extremely reasonable, portions are generous and then some. I've been there twice and the first time, the owner brought out a free plate of fruit, and the second time when I ordered the nigiri plate, I got 4 extra nigiri. It reminds me of the small sushi bars I would go to in Japan. As it is run by one person, it may take a little bit more time to get your food, but it's well worth it. read more

Because it's owned and operated solely by one hardworking man, our order took way longer than originally quoted, but we were pleasantly surprised by the quantity and quality of food. I wish the owner/chef had given us a heads up about the California rolls being topped with roe (fish eggs) as unfortunately the kids didn't love that, but otherwise everything else tasted great. Each order came with a box of random assorted Japanese goodies, which was pretty fun to open. Each one of us got different items, as some boxes had green tea, while others had Calpico or water. Visited this little sushi joint again on a recent trip. The quality of the fish was just as amazing as I remembered it. Not just quality, but also healthy portions and plentiful accompaniments. The entire shop seems to be run by one guy... he is the sushi chef, restaurateur, and service staff. He is friendly and inviting to everyone that walked in while I waited for my takeout order. I haven't been back in a long time as I didn't think they were open for dine-in. Service was exemplary. The owner runs the place by himself so he typically cleans all the tables at once but because we got there late, he had to clear a table for us. He was gracious enough to give us some complimentary Edamame and watermelon while we waited for our food to arrive which didn't take too long. The portions were large, fish was fresh and everything tasted good. Upon paying the bill, we were also give a little bag of treats to enjoy after the meal. The sushi we ordered tasted fresh and the portion sizes were filling. My one complaint is the wait time for our food. It's a small business located in the corner of a strip mall, it may appear closed because sometimes the "OPEN" sign may not be working, but it's definitely open during its business hours.
