Every time my wife passed by here at 99 Ranch to pick up some fruits, she would ask me if we could stop by their Food Court. This time we tried ARBOR SUSHI. The lady at the counter was nice enough to give us a sample of their Sushi to try first , my wife chose the BAKED SCALOP ROLL , and for my son, we got him the TEPPANYAKI STEAK BENTO and I got the TERIYAKI CHICKEN BENTO. The sushi was Amazing. The bento was in good portions, but they were just okay. If we are passing by again we will most likely have their Sushi. The lady at the counter was very friendly. I do not see many people here in their Food court compared to the H Mart food court so whenever we come here, there are plenty of available tables and ample parking spaces.

Good deal for sushi rolls, tucked away inside the 99 ranch market. Pros: - Good prices for sushi rolls, especially the buy 1 get 1 50% off (hope they keep this) - The deal for the Gyudon was nice and the rice bowl was large and tasty (could have used more meat but for the price it's good) - The lady at the counter was super friendly - All the food we tried was pretty good and what you would expect from a fast casual Japanese spot Cons: - The wait was quite long after we ordered. Next time we will order ahead online and just pick up!

Like other reviewers mentioned, they're located in 99 Ranch Market. There's ample parking. They still have their promo of BOGO 50% off as of July 2026. And are offering samples of their baked items. Without the promo it can be kind of pricey and an AYCE sushi lunch buffet might be a better financial option with more variety. The owner is very friendly and will take the time to walk you through the menu. I wanted to like this place a little more but unfortunately the taste and flavor wasn't there for me for the specialty roll. The presentation was spot on though. I enjoyed the salmon nigiri because the salmon was fresh. I think they pride in their baked rolls, so if you're a baked roll type of person, this place may be for you.

This is a newly opened vendor at the food court of the 99 Ranch Market on Balboa Ave which has only four stalls. Arbor Sushi & Grill Express replaced a short-lived Asian potato noodle eatery. Laminated menu sheets were available at the service counter. The food offerings featured various sushi rolls, a limited number of nigiri, hot side dishes, cold sides, and salmon miso soup. I noticed that most of the sushi rolls involved baked and/or fried (e.g. tempura) components. I even saw cheese as an ingredient. There were a few rolls under a heated container in which you could try a sample. Not seeing anything that interested me, I pivoted to the three bentos that were displayed on screens behind the counter... Hibachi Seafood, Teppanyaki Steak, and Teriyaki Chicken. My pick was the Teppanyaki Steak bento. The box contained pieces of sizzling teppanyaki steak, two crispy tempura shrimp, two pork gyoza, two pieces of tuna maki roll with cream cheese, fried rice, carrots, jalapenos, and seaweed salad. It was quite the assortment of items that took a while to assemble as in more than 20 minutes. The steak was overcooked as I should have asked for medium rare doneness. The best item was the shrimp as the batter was light and crispy. If you want traditional sushi, then I would not recommend coming here as their rolls were highly customized for American palates. For the price and quality of my bento, I gave an average three star rating for Arbor Sushi & Grill Express.

Found out there is sushi eatery inside 99 ranch market food court now and got very excited as I love sushi. I ordered rainbow roll and the lady told me if I get another sushi it's half off. I didn't know what to decide so she gave me a sample of the baked scallop roll and it was good. I ordered the baked shrimp roll because I wanted to try everything. She also gave me miso soup and the miso soup was perfect just like in Japan. I am Japanese and I approve their miso soup here. It's not too salty or too bland it's just made right, the portion of the food is excellent. The sushi here is very fresh it came from 99 ranch market grocery store so I am very positive seafood will be fresh here. The shrimps were prepared and cleaned out correctly. I know this because I used to be a chef. The owner works at the restaurant and she was super friendly. Their gyudon was massive. This one unfortunately didn't take me back home. It was okay the ingredients and sauce can use improvement and should always be served on a round rice bowl or container. We usually use smaller red ginger in Japan. Fresh sushi ingredients is where this eatery shines and absolutely what you should order. You can tell they are fresh just by looking at the quality of the raw fish and avocados are in perfect color and condition. I will be back for more fresh sushi soon.

Giant portions!!! Got tempted in by the free samples. Tasted so good, I had to get two rolls. They also had a bogo half off deal because they just opened. On top of that, they gave me free miso soup with my meal which is so kind. This place along with the other stalls in the 99 Ranch Market food court are so underrated!

Stumbled upon this stand in 99 ranch and they were having a bogo 1/2 off grand opening special! The owner was super nice and offered us samples, so we tried the baked salmon and baked scallop rolls and both were solid. We ordered the baked salmon roll and a rainbow roll, so two rolls for for $24, pretty good deal! Also ordered a fried chicken appetizer, kinda karaage style, with a honey mustard sauce. Food came out in a timely manner, and the owner brought out an extra spicy ranch for the chicken, which was nice. Both rolls were delicious for the price, and the chicken was juicy. Would come back!

The Terrayaki chicken bento box was a great deal with sizable portion at $11.99. The avocado, salmon roll and baked scallop roll were delicious that's sushi restaurant quality. Staff was very friendly and made great recommendations. We would definitely come back again.

This place is located inside 99 ranch market (balboa) The sushi that I order was delicious and fresh They also have bento boxes that looked delicious with generous portions and a great variety of items. The customer service was outstanding. I highly recommend this place.

Great customer service and the very pretty lady in front made my sister's and I's experience very special. The food was really good, and what drew me in was their shrimp sushi! :) I can honestly say they have some pretty good deals, especially the teryaki chicken deal for $11.99 which is cheaper than most places for how much they'd pack the bowl. It's a large size bowl so money well spent! They even gave us 2 extra sushi on the house for trying their food :)

service is still top notch, they introduced a a baked salmon jalepeno roll that was delicious, will be back again soon!

We were promptly sat down upon arriving. Servers frequently checked on us and were all so nice. But what really stood out was their empathy. Like i said, my son knocked out. He's 5. He woke up as we were leaving. by the time we figured out what was really upsetting him (he wanted to stay there and eat and wanted the table we were on), we have gotten out of our table and obviously the table was then cleaned for the next guests. So basically my lil one cried, took him to the bathroom bec unfortunately we dont get everything we want just bec we cry. So we went into the bathroom for him to cry his feelings out and be ready to get out. Was he loud? Absolutely. Was i embarrassed? Yes. But it was a lesson he needed to learn and i didnt want my discomfort to hinder that. (Mind you the bathroom was in the middle of the stairs lol midway the lower and the upper floor). So was i ashamed to get out? Yes. But the staff, so empathetic. So nice about it. Told me i didnt need to apologize and that they get it. And that made me feel better as a mama who walked out of there carrying a 5 year old out their door. No judgy stares. Just smiles and understanding eyes. So july 18 2026, 4-5pm staff, you are all so amazing and we truly appreciate it. We hope to be back again when in the area.

Everything (fish) were all fresh, so when the nigiri course started that's when everything went south. The nigiri that chef served was really small and it's not your standard size nigiri .There's barley any shari ( sushi rice) and fish. If felt like I was sampling each nigiri. There was no wait here but parking was a nightmare and there is almost no street parking right around the restaurant which is near the trolley tracks. I recalled coming here for a light dinner with my husband many years ago and thinking it was good, but expensive. I asked if they had Japanese soda for my daughter because it was not on the menu, and they said no, but after we came back from the bathroom the host had found one for us. They gave us chopstick helpers and were very nice. We ordered braised pork belly as an app and wagyu nigiri, albacore, hamachi, salmon belly, 2 salmons, and unagi. I think that was all. They nicely split the order so half had no wasabi for the kid. They were very considerate and I appreciated it. The food however took a while to come out. The braised pork belly was ok, but the fat had not rendered as well as at some other places so we ate around it. The flavor was good though. The hamachi was probably the best item-tender and tasty. The albacore was standard and a generous piece, but the salmon was a bit tough and my kid who usually inhales salmon tasted and then left the salmon. The wagyu had good flavor but was surprisingly chewy. For $26 I would expect it to melt in your mouth but it was not easy to bite through. The eel was very tender but had a weird taste, and was disappointing. I found myself chewing on a scale from maybe the salmon and was overall underwhelmed by the food. The bill for a soda and the sushi came to almost $150 after tax and tip for me and a 6-year old. We ordered the miso soup, spicy edamame, Den Miso pork belly skewers, tamarindo tuna ceviche, seabass serrano, crispy karikari tuna, and mochi ice cream for dessert. To drink, we had the Taiyo Margarita and the Clouds of Matcha cocktail. The spicy edamame was probably the only dish that fell a little short for us. It wasn't bad by any means, but we were hoping for more flavor. The absolute standout was the Den Miso pork belly skewers. My husband and I both took our first bite at the same time, looked at each other, and immediately said, "Oh!" We were genuinely surprised by how juicy, tender, and flavorful they were. There were only two skewers, but they packed so much flavor that we instantly wanted to order another plate. The tamarindo tuna ceviche was fresh, light, and refreshing. The taro chips added a nice crunch without overpowering the dish. The seabass serrano was enjoyable, though it wasn't a stand out for us. The crispy karikari tuna (spicy tuna over crispy rice) is one of my go-to orders whenever I visit a sushi restaurant, and this version was up to par. The only component I wasn't crazy about was the long, thin slice of avocado on top--I personally could have done without it, though my husband actually liked it, so that's just a matter of preference. We finished the meal with mochi ice cream, which was the perfect sweet ending. Overall, we had a great dining experience. Between the rooftop ambiance, attentive service, and several delicious dishes - especially those unforgettable pork belly skewers - we'd definitely come back and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a great dinner spot in the Gaslamp.
