These guys....what a great group! I'd contacted them at the last minute needing at least a couple people to help offload my 26' moving truck after another company had backed out. They responded within minutes, and had me all set. The guys were on time, SO polite and super fast. They were very careful with all my belongings and really made the entire process effortless. This was not an easy off-load. I have some very heavy furniture and a lot of delicate items, and I was extremely impressed with their professionalism! We had thought that with the flexibility of a POD and the help of friends, we would be able to move ourselves. Those things helped, but we still reached a point of total exhaustion and we just couldn't do anymore. So, I looked on Craig's List to find unloading help and and found Handy Haulers. I'm so glad I called. They accommodated our short notice request. They were right on time. They were fast, but at the same time, took good care with our stuff. Given what they accomplished in a short period of time, they were a total bargain. (They unloaded our 16-foot POD and 10-foot truck in less than 3 hours.) We moved in 2 stages. The first time we hired a 4 man crew. 2 guys were awesome and kicked butt. The other 2 were jokers from a temp agency who actually made things take longer than they should have. Things were packed well, though and arrived without any damage. Part 2- I scheduled 2 movers, and although I was on their books, someone forgot to arrange for a crew to show up. After an hour of waiting, I called to see what had happened. They admitted they had screwed up, and quickly put together a crew of 4 guys who showed up 2 1/2 hours after they were supposed to have started. They worked well and efficiently, but nobody had brought any of the packing supplies that are to be included in the price... no plastic wrap, paper pads, or tie downs. My husband had to go to Home Depot and spend $200 on supplies that should have been included in their price. read more

I did not have a good experience with this company's owner after I hired Handy Haulers to move a piano for me. The two men who showed up were friendly and worked very hard at loading the piano in the truck I had rented. However--in my opinion--they did not do a very careful job of padding the piano before they strapped it down. The straps they used were laid directly across the wood of the piano, instead of being laid over a blanket to protect the wood. Ultimately, the piano started shifting once I started driving, and as a result one of the straps chafed away some of the wood. I had to pull over and re-adjusted the straps in order to prevent further damage. The two workers did a good job of bringing the piano into its new location, and they told me to call the owner of the company to discuss the damage. But when I contacted him, he argued that this damage had nothing to do with the actions of his employees -- essentially denying any responsibility. He was defensive and quickly told me that he didn't have time to talk because he was in the middle of another moving job at the time. I asked him to call me back because I wanted to resolve this matter, but he never did. I waited two days -- with no response -- before writing this review. My advice is to steer clear of this company, at least when something like a piano is involved. read more

We sent for the Calvary via the UHaul 'help you move' service after our son in law twisted his back trying to help us move our extraordinarily heavy furniture. First we went for the bargain basement price guys and when we called they were... Already done for the day, drinking a beer and watching a game and didn't work in the rain anyway." So we called back and the folks there recommended Handy Haulers. Hired two guys for four hours for $255. They were done in 2.5. The best money we spent during the moving process. Nope, they were not the cheapest BUT they are OUTSTANDING. They extended their service area for us and got the job done in short order. Words cannot express how impressed we were with these folks. They were prompt (arrived 15 min early, started early) friendly, conscientious (took care of our old junk like it actually had some value), courteous, polite, professional and strong as oxes. No goofing off, horsing around, standing around shooting the breeze... these guys WORK HARD! They made short order of our heavy items, no bumps or scratches on walls or furniture.. just an amazing overall experience. We are grateful to have had them help us finish up and should we ever need help again, I will call them first. read more

After the mover I reserved for my Sunday move didn't show up, Handy Haulers said yes! 1st class service, they were careful and courteous. They even knew how to care for with my tempurpedic moveable bed and mattress by planning ahead when placing things in storage and making a flat place to store the mattress. I love Handy Haulers! Jeramie and Kyle were impressive - moving at top speed even though they were billing hourly - and taking good care of my things at the same time. They worked extremely well together, Kyle easily picking up on Jeramie's quick explanations of where his tetris-like mind was going with furniture placement in the truck. We moved on August 5th and used Handy Haulers. They did a good fast job, however we got lucky...when they were unloading the truck I saw that they had not wrapped our 60 in TV. ( Glad we didn't have to get 60 cents on the pound for that one.) One guy banged they walls multiple times but overall, they did a pretty good job. Absolutely do not use unless you do not care about destroyed property. The movers broke our 1000 dollar, year old to Sony TV and when confronted we were told that they typically compensate 60 cents per pound regardless of actual value. After we talked to Tim R. on the phone about the damage he said he would talk to his employees that were present for the move and get back to us after a few days of investigation. Unexpectedly that night an employee showed up to our home with no notice at 8:30 PM to inspect the TV. He asked what we needed to be satisfied, we explained that we expected full compensation for the TV's value or a replacement TV of the same model. He made an offer of $300 if we would give him the broken TV. He wasn't interested making us whole again and making it right. We declined and he was asked to leave. He became upset when he was asked to leave our property and was acting unprofessionally, attempting to engage in conversation after being asked to leave several times, very troubling. This is absolutely not acceptable, Handy Haulers is attempting to avoid paying for damage caused by their employees. The entire reason we went with movers was to skip the stress... $1,000 in damage later, no stress has been skipped. Update on 8/15 Approx. 5PM: Greg reached out to my wife and told her he would be willing to make it right after we removed our complaint with BBB. She indicated she would happily do so once the complaint was addressed and would remove the other reviews as as a show of good faith and he told her to enjoy her 60 cents a pound. In essence, he asked us to lie to the BBB and say the issue was resolved before he would replace the TV. Why? He then proceeded to email claiming that she signed a form stating she agreed to 60 cents a pound. At no point was my wife present and she has hospital papers from the day of the move. I was also given no paperwork. We were told that they have insurance at the time of booking, but no written or verbal details were provided prior to the move regarding the terms of insurance. With the additional apparent forgery that has taken place, this company is very shady. Avoid at all costs!!! read more

They were early to our spot, which I love, they made sure they weren't late which I hate :) They were very careful with our valuables, taking time to wrap up things in plastic and blankets. They were fast too. When we arrived to our new place, they took the time to bring boxes to the correct rooms. We had trouble getting our box spring up the stairs, but some quick thinking from Tim got it up there! Very affordable, and so friendly. We highly recommend! read more

We had 14 years worth of stuff accumulated, and we are getting too old to lug furniture around. So I searched the internet and found the earlier review on yelp. I called and spoke to Craig, and he was very helpful, and set up an appointment for us for the Saturday of our move. We decided on a three-man team and it worked out very well. They called to confirm a couple of times prior to the moving day. The guys showed up early and started work right away. They packed our 26 ft U-Haul to the brim, and it allowed us to only make one trip. Then they unpacked quickly and efficiently. They also moved our hot-tub which wasn't a big monster, but it was not easy either. I could not be happier with the results, and it was worth every penny! Sadly I cannot recommend Handy Haulers. First the rate quoted increased by $20 increments twice, the second time occurred with my nearly all my belongings on the truck. Not much you can do but pay the amount. Second, the movers either ignored or forgot my warning that my cat was in the bathroom and not to open the door. Imagine my surprise and fear when, after they left, I found the door open and my cat missing. She was gone for nearly an hour and I called them, yes in a very emotional state. And although they didn't deserve a call back I did so, however that being Saturday and it is now Tuesday I still haven't received a call back on either matter. So apparently the owner is okay with inflating prices and losing customers animals...and I am okay with writing a poor review and steering my friends away from Handy Haulers. I have to share the wonderful experience we had with the team at Handy Haulers. My 70 year old mother wanted to move out of an apartment on the third floor during the month of December. I received a number of quotes and Handy Haulers was not the cheapest nor the most expensive but they were the quickest and most detailed to respond and Gregory the owner assured me that his team would take care of my mom. He didn't lie, his team was scheduled to move her the Friday after the big ice storm in PDX. The team drove out to try to make it happen even though the apartment complex did nothing to address the ice. Unfortunately they couldn't get the truck into the complex, but they tried, and they reassured my mom that they would be back on Sunday at no extra charge to try again. They showed up on time as promised and were AMAZING, Rob lead the team , with Shane and Gavin working extremely hard to make this a stress free move for my mom. We could not be more pleased with the professionalism these three men showed my mother during this move. I really appreciate finding a company that truly believes in customer service and doing the right thing, thank you Handy Haulers for being so amazing to my Mom. Where do I start? My wife hired this company by phone several weeks before our move. She called three days prior to the moving day to confirm. She had arranged for 2 men, and we were providing a truck because "their truck is not licensed in Washington state". This quote is from one of the owners, even though I had originally seen their truck in Vancouver and made a note of the company name and phone number on the side. It was fine, as we had access to a medium sized moving truck with a ramp. The two men were supposed to arrive at 9AM. 9AM came and went and my wife called the company. She was told that they had tried to call her, and were unable to reach her, so they had cancelled. My wife told the person on thephone she had called three days prior and confirmed. "They" had to call her back. Finally, not two but three young men showed up at almost 10:30AM. They showed up in an old sedan with for sale stickers on the windshield from a used car lot. They did not have any tools, and no plastic wrap to protect our furniture, as we were told they would provide. They did have a hand truck dolly. One of the young men, the only one of the three that appeared to know what he was doing, had a recently broken foot, and hobbled. They were to move us out of a two bedroom apartment. We had everything packed, boxed, and ready to move. There was one bed frame to take apart. We had let the company know we were on the second floor, but there was an elevator if they did not want to go down two flights of stairs. Google maps shows the distance of our move to be 12.6 miles. It took the three young, seemingly healthy (with the exception of the broken foot) men until 8:30 that night to load, make two trips in our truck, and unload us. That is, 10 hours! Again, everything was in boxes and ready to go. They followed us each trip in their car. In between the two trips, I arrived back at our apartment, and waited about 30 minutes for them to show up. I assumed they stopped to buy the plastic wrap they had failed to bring with them. I was wrong. When it came time to move my very expensive 70" flat screen tv, I stopped them and said they needed to wrap it and protect it. One of the guys replied, he did not think they would need it. I told him I thought they had stopped to buy some. No he said, "we stopped for gas". He then asked where he could buy some. I suggested the Home depot we had passed three miles from the apartment. He left and was gone about an hour. While he was gone, very little was done. At one point, on the second load, they had to partially unload the truck because they had misjudged, and things would not fit. The glass on one of our large, limited edition, signed prints was broken, not in moving it but in wrapping it on the carpet of the apartment living room! Throughout the day, my wife communicated with the "owners" or someone in the office concerning how long it was taking. At one point she was told to keep in mind, these guys do this part time, they are not professionals! They did not move the bar b que from the apartment, we had to go back for it the following day, nor did they move the items from a storage unit we had , nor the items stored at a parents house. All which we believed we could get done in one day. The owner Tim, called my wife soon after the employees left. My wife had agreed to pay $55 an hour. Keep in mind, their normal pricing includes using their truck, which did not happen in our case. The owner informed her that he wanted $750 and another $30 travel time charge because of the distance between the two points (12.6 miles). She fought him on it as we had not asked for the third man, they were slow as hell, and one was lame. He did not even care that the framed print was broken, and no offer was made to take care of that. After 20 minutes of arguing, we settled for a little less than $600. for a move we had been told should cost us around $300 or so. Keep in mind, if they are charging you for hours, there is no incentive to hurry. In fact the slower they are, the longer it takes, the more they get to charge you. Even though "they" gave my wife an estimate of the amont of time it should take to move us at 4 to 5 hours tops, it took 10 hours. They blamed the fact that they had to walk down the hallway to the elevator. My wife watched them make that trip carrying one box at a time, even though the had two hand trucks, one they brought, one we provided! I really wonder if the movers are not told to drag their feet to wrack up more hours. What a joke! An expensive joke. Do not, I repeat, do not hire this comedy of errors. The only positive, was that the young men were all polite and courteous. The rest of our experience with Handy Haulers, was terrible. There MUST be better movers in the Portland metro area. Real. Professional. Movers! read more

Our original movers were not returning my calls less then 12 hours before our move, so I had to find a different mover, these guys came to our rescue! On very short notice they came at the time I requested (even delayed by an hour when I asked for more time to prep), were punctual, and extremely hard workers! Our house was small, and probably less stuff than other moves they've done, but the house was old, with narrow doors and low ceilings in places. And most of all, it was a really awkward house to get things two and from, with very narrow walkways, uneven ground, stairs and uphill to the moving truck which could not get closer than about 30-40 ft from the house because of overhanging trees! They got everything! Including 3 chest freezers, large furniture pieces and numerous random small boxes and items. Only one lamp broke and I don't consider it their fault. The move took much longer than we expected (8 hrs) but not for lack of effort on their part to work as fast and safely as possible. And for the amount of time, strength and effort it took, the price was extremely reasonable. They may be a small time company, but don't doubt their ability to professionally move what ever you need. read more

We had heard good things about this company but we have now called them 4 times in the last week to set up a walk through and they have been unable to set this up when we called and cant seem to be bothered to even call us back. We had piece of furniture delivered to our house today and the two delivery guys could not get it upstairs to its final destination. Weighing about 250 pounds turned out it was more than they could deal with. Needless to say we were very disappointed. I found Handy Haulers on Yelp and called and spoke to Greg, explained the dilemma, and literally within 90 minutes he had 2 gentlemen at our house and the problem was solved! Unbelievable. I thought for sure we would be looking at sometime next week at the earliest to have somebody move this for us (it is the day before Christmas Eve) Incredible customer service and so nice to deal with and for a good price! 12pm, 8/17/15 - a Handy Hauler moving van, VERY clearly labeled with their phone number and name on the side, dumped a queen size mattress and box spring on the sidewalk in front of my business in inner SE portland at noon today. the drivers drove up, opened the back and dumped them both on the sidewalk and drove away. since the name and number of the company are printed IN GIANT letters on the side of the van - we immediately called Handy Haulers to come back and pick up the trash! dumping is illegal. the person who answered the phone said : "my guys wouldn't do that." EVEN THOUGH we just saw them do EXACTLY that. the person who answered the phone at Handy Haulers said "i'll try to send someone back." we threatened to call the police and the drivers came back and loaded the mattress back up. so, to the person whose mattress that was : whatever they told you they were going to do with it? it was a lie. they've probably dumped it on some other corner by now. to everyone else thinking of using them : think again. read more
