    Banchan
    Hannah M.

A little underwhelmed to be honest. Ordered the bulgogi for lunch today and it was pretty pricey at around $25. Honestly not sure who the target market is here because it's definitely above a student budget yet as the name suggests it's pretty casual. It came with miso soup, banchan, and rice. The miso soup was actually pretty tasty. I was underwhelmed with the banchan, especially the quantity thereof. The kimchi was good but everything else was pretty meh. I believe there were six or seven banchan in total. The bulgogi had nice flavor but was a little too oily? I've had a lot of bulgogi in my day (my aunt is Korean) and I've never experienced this before. It also was a pretty lacking portion for the money. I probably wouldn't rush to try it again honestly. They do have a lunch special that looks potentially intriguing, but based on my experience it would take some convincing.

I was so excited to try the new Pocha, street food style Korean restaurant. They have a lot of options that are traditional Korean food that you can't get everywhere, like a whole fried chicken or Tteokbokki and sausage skewers. They also have Korean food you can find on traditional menus like bugolgi and kimchi fried rice. The ambience is club like with loud music and lights, but it was very fun. I can imagine this could get really loud when they are busy, but we came by on a slow night. Our server was very attentive and did a great job. My only complaint is that I prefer salty and spicy food. For my tastes, the food was much in need of salt. I compensated by adding Saeu-jeot to everything (the shrimp sauce). Also, the banchan were a bit lacking--they were kimchi, diakon, and then the third we just got the sauce and no veggies. Overall, the portions were huge. The fried chicken was hot and juicy. The pork was succulent. I'd go back for sure.

Hanjan Pocha is an absolute gem if you're craving authentic Korean comfort food with a fun, casual vibe. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by the lively atmosphere that feels like you've just stumbled into a cozy neighborhood spot in Seoul. The decor is vibrant, and there's a cool, laid-back energy to the place. The service is good and overall a fun vibe! They have karaoke in the back.

We went here for dinner on a Sunday evening. We ordered the tteokbokki, whole chicken, and pig knuckle. All of the meats were so tender and delicious. The tteokbokki was also very delicious. Our server was very nice and s we got our food quickly. It wasn't noisy because it wasn't crowded.

I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately I was let down. Me and my two sisters came after night out at about 12:15am on Saturday and we were so excited to see that they were open until 2am! When we got there we stood around for solid minute while the servers just stared at us. The manager finally sat down at a table and I noticed that the menu was limited, but had good choices. We ordered ramen with chicken, ramen with shrimp, bulgogi, and corn cheese. This whole meal cost us $72 + tip. I'll start by saying the food came out fast which was nice! The server brought out all our food at the same time but he never came back to check up on us. After waiting 10-15 minutes, I called our server over to ask for napkins. Additionally, the server never came back to give us a refill on water, no one came to see if our food was ok, we didn't even get the check or boxes from our server, we got everything from the manager. At one point, I even asked the manager are these tipped employees because they're not doing anything for a tip right now. Mind you, the servers were not busy, there were 3 of them hanging out in the back, and its totally fine if you wanna hang out, but you're really not gonna check on any of your tables? The food itself is decent. I wouldn't rave about it, but after a night out it was good. The Bulgogi was flavorful, corn cheese wasn't bad, and the Ramen tasted like a lighter version of Shin Ramen. I'm an Asian myself so typically I'm always pro Asian businesses. 9/10 times even if I don't love the food or service I'll still rate them well. However, there's no excuse for this, these looked like maybe young college students as servers who know how to serve a table, but failed to do so. I recommend hiring a new round of staff.

This Korean gastropub recently opened in the old Miki Sushi location. There's paid parking across the street, so parking is convenient. The lighting, decor, and furnishing inside is very much like the street-side stalls or tents in Korea that serve food and alcohol in a social, casual atmosphere. The menu is simple and they have some fun drinks/cocktails. I thought the food was okay. It's not the best I've had, but I think most people come for social drinking. The army hot pot was very tasty and flavorful. I was actually impressed. The tang su yuk was also fried well and the sauce was good. The jokbal was a big portion, but not the best I've had. The fried chicken was overcooked and dry, so that was disappointing because we love Korean fried chicken. We also did not care for the kimchi jeon, as it had a very chewy texture and not what we expected for a kimchi pancake. Our waiter was very attentive and nice though.

It was a nice little spot. They tried mimicking the nightlife bar vibe we all see on TV. It has more of club vibe and a little loud. despite all that the food was good and the portions were large( hence the pricing). It's not so much a family sit down or catch-up place but more of a meet up for drinking and having fun. Make sure to share or like the same foods otherwise you'll have plenty of leftovers. Our server was very sweet and nice. The food was hot and we got everything we ordered correctly. Give it a try because the food was good.

Opening weekend and things are still coming together. I will update my review on e there is a more complete menu and items to try. I'll chalk it up to opening weekend issues and leave it at that. They will ah e hot pot once the permits and inspections are done. The service was excellent. Very attentive and helpful. The new decor of the restaurant is open and vibrant. Great place to hangout for late night eats. Or it will be. Looking forward to going back.

Was able to get a reservation here for New Years Eve and dined for the first time. The interior still looks a lot like Miki, just more lights and K-pop vibes. K-pop on the TV and speakers, a lot of reflective surfaces and moving lights -- definitely intended as a late-night spot. We had: - Pineapple soju - nothing special imo, you can buy the brand at a market. - Sausage and rice cake skewers - this was a generous portion and very good. The sauce was just spicy enough while also being sweet and smoky. - Sweet Potato Noodles - there were like 5 tiny pieces of bulgogi in here. They definitely need to increase the portion of that if they are going to advertise it in the menu. Flavor was good and enjoyed the noodles despite the lack of meat. - Tang Su Yuk - I guess we didn't specify or were asked if we wanted mushrooms or pork, because we ended up with mushrooms. I think the pork would have been better because the breading would have attached to it better. For tempura, the coating was rather heavy and chewy, not light and airy like you'd expect. It wasn't super greasy though. Just not a lot of flavor and the mushrooms just slid right out. HUGE portion of like 20 of the things though. Maybe the pork would be better. It was good with the sauce/pickled items that come with it. Service was good and we enjoyed watching the Kpop concerts on the TV as we are fans. Would definitely return here with a larger party to try more of the dishes and enjoy the lively atmosphere.

I'm inspired to break my long Yelp silence to shout out this fun new restaurant in Ann Arbor. On entering you are greeted by disco lights and conversationally loud k-pop. The interior decor is also loud in the best way. On my visit i was excited to see fresh unflavored soju as well as a menu full of Korean comfort food. I ordered the stix (crispy and fluffy sugar-coated corndogs with a tangy ketchup) and the omelette which was cooked with a perfect texture. I really want this place to succeed. I love it on my first visit and there are so few un-stuffy restaurants in Ann Arbor.

The first Pocha in town is here!! And how exciting that is! Considering it was the soft opening and the staff is still learning the menu and how to serve these dishes I won't take any points away for that, I'm just excited this late night Korean bar food concept is finally here. Love that they have table grills for future KBBQ offerings! Here's what we ordered and suggestions for things they can do: Pork belly: listed as served with kimchi and tofu but was actually served with udon noodles and no tofu which was fine because the dish itself was delicious but odd that the descriptions didn't match at all. It was also pretty spicy so I would be aware of that if you're not a spice lover like me! Kimchi fried rice: a little on the bland side and really benefited from the flavorful pork belly we had also ordered to elevate it. We also ordered a bottle of soju and Kloud beer to round out the meal, I was sad to see this pocha doesn't have beer towers available but I can really see them being a hit with the if they were offered! There's just something about a beer tower that feels so fun and playful when you're out drinking with friends. We will definitely be back especially once they have their kbbq grills going and can see us coming back for late night eats after a night out with friends!

We met up for lunch recently and had a great experience. Nate and I first went into the wrong restaurant - they also have a more casual noodle spot next door, so be sure you know where you're meeting/going! We hadn't figured out if we wanted to do Korean BBQ or not when we first arrived, but we ended up choosing from the lunch specials/combos menu which was a great value. Plus I can never decide what I want, so it was great to be able to get a combo with two different options. I went with the bulgogi/nengmyun combo and we also got an order of mandoo to share. Our server was super patient and helpful with navigating the menu. The food came out quickly and everything was pretty tasty - I loved the mandoo (dumplings) - they were big and filled nicely. The nengmyun was good, not the best version of this dish that I've had, but it's hard to find in my city so I was happy to have theirs. I loved the spicy pork bulgogi; super flavorful and not too spicy. Nate got the sundubu stew which was delicious and quite spicy! The portions were large, especially for the price. I always forget how great it is eating in college towns - things can be way cheaper! Parking here is a bit tricky as it is anywhere downtown, but we lucked out with a street meter nearby. I will definitely be back to Tomukun in the future.

Their online menu does not have the pictures that the in store one has and woowee it is a lot of choices of noodles! Amongst the 4 of us, we ordered the pork tip noodle, the Peking pork (zhajiangmian), hot oil wide noodle, beef tendon knife noodle. YUM! The noodles are handmade, handpulled and you can customize the shape and thickness you want! The portions as you can see are massive and the prices are very reasonable! $14/$15 a bowl! My pork rib tips were too tough but still seasoned. I would say their Peking style zhajiangmian is pleasantly less authentic and I liked this version better than the original! It included a braised full egg, and not too much of the cloyingly sweet and intense sauce. We ordered and within 2 minutes we were served fresh bowls of piping hot noods. Our server was efficient, warm, knowledgeable and bilingual. She said I looked like a popular Hong Kong singer, like OMG what a cute compliment! There was convenient parking and it was really close to my friend's house. Highly recommend!
