For some context, we went during restaurant week on perhaps the coldest day of the year, so it was likely they were understaffed, and unusually busy. We ordered off of the restaurant week pre fixed menu. The menu was quite generous and had a good bit of variety, including sake and edamame before two appetizers per person, an entree, and optional dessert course. All the food was phenomenal. However, the service was a little disorganized. For starters, when we arrived at our reservation time, the host seemed confused on where to seat us, causing it to take a while for us to be seated. Once seated, our waitress appeared sporadically, and the timing between courses was very strange. We waited a very long time for our appetizers to be brought out, but then one entree was brought out nearly as soon as the appetizers arrived. The other came way later. Before ordering appetizers, I ordered a drink, which did not arrive until right before our dessert arrived. Our waitress did acknowledge that the timing was off and comped the dessert uncharge (it was only $2). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Other than that, the dining area was very noisy and cold, but clean and well designed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All in all, the food was excellent and made the experience worth it.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the walk down stairs into the restaurant. It's minimalistic with a nice ambiance/vibe at night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room area was busy but the bar was wide open![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Mark greeted me very nicely and made sure I was good while dined. I ordered the Lychee Blossom martini but substituted vodka for tequila. I ordered the Firecracker roll and it was chefs kiss! I'll be back!

Saturday night. Place is pretty busy. Ordered a number of sushi rolls. We hadthe sake salmon, caterpillar and the cucumber rolls pop. I ordered the lychee martini and my friend a cosmopolitan. Both drinks were a little sweet. The sushi was fresh and creative. The portion size was generous. We ordered a second drink and requested to be made less sweet. I don't believe the bartender got the message, as he was also waiting tables. It was not less sweet. They apologized that they were a little short staffed. Overall was happy with the dining experience and would go back again. They are right by the Ark, so make it a convenient place to eat before a show. It is downstairs, and this gives it a cozy, yet modern vibe.

First time in since the rebranding. The menu looks interesting. No happy hour on Fridays. The place as empty. I sat at the bar, order a peach tea whiskey drink and a roll. I was very surprised that the roll was nearly tasteless. It looked great. Seemed fresh. Just no taste. The drink was fine but should have been a full glass for $14. Staff was great. Just boring. No one else there. $50 for a roll and drink with tip. I'll try them again and hope for better next time.

The ambiance was great! The new transition to new ownership resulted in a better menu for sure for the price. Our server was also awesome and was super helpful. However, the food was not the greatest. To start with the drink, the Azalea (pink drink) wasn't too bad although I wasn't a fan of the dried coconut flake on top. The Tokyo peach drink though tasted pretty much like diluted orange juice. I didn't really get much else in it as it was overpowered. All of their seafood didn't really taste fresh, from the tuna to salmon. The seafood paella was pretty good, although the seafood in there was ok and the mussels tasted weird. The quality just didn't seem right for the price, but I hope it will get better!

Best Asian ribs in town! Loved that soy sauce-y sauce they came with. The food was flavorful, but be aware it's $$$$ level expensive here. This seems like a good new spot in town for a fancy date or special occasion, not somewhere you would go regularly to eat. Main complaint is the place is difficult to find! It's a one door entrance and the logo is kind of difficult to see on it...the restaurant name needs to be bigger at least. Didn't mind that the restaurant was a basement restaurant, it fit the eclectic, dark ambiance.

Came for an early Wednesday dinner and the place was pretty empty. It took us a minute to figure out that the main restaurant is in the basement before we headed down the stairs to get to the reception desk. SERVICE was excellent with food coming from the kitchen quickly and frequent water refills and checkins from our waiter. They weren't offering their Japanese wagyu that day which was disappointing to find out only when we tried to order. For FOOD, we got the grilled angus short ribs, gochujang rigatoni, korean fried chicken, salmon on the beach roll, and fire cracker roll. My favorite was the short ribs and the chives they came on however I couldn't taste the shishito peppers and the smashed potatoes were bland and didn't contribute much to the dish. The gochujang rigatoni was flavorful with a medium amount of spice. The korean fried chicken was not what I expected in that the batter was a tempura batter and I would have liked a more traditional, heavier korean fried chicken batter. My fiance's favorite was the fire cracker roll. She found the salmon on the beach roll a little disappointing as it was just lukewarm when it's listed as a baked roll. AMBIANCE was somewhat cold, monotone, and dark which didn't seem to match the vibe of a early summer evening dinner. I would've given a 3.5 stars if that was an option but in lieu, overall I give Azalea 4 stars.

Dolsot Mushroom Rice Bowl , Sea Bass
    Ethan M.

Food: Dolsot: creative variety of mushrooms to bring slight different flavor profiles to the dish. Sizzling and crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Almost like a risotto. 7/10 Sea Bass: Sauce had almost zero flavor was totally botched. Bass was cooked decently well but a little dry. Radishes were just a weird addition. 5/10 Tteokbokki: Rich, creamy and cheesy. Truffle shavings obviously weren't fresh but a decent touch. Runny egg as well. 6.5/10 Fried Chicken: Really nice acidic sauce and a brilliantly brined tender chicken. Large chunks of meat perfectly tender. Could've done with more crisp. 8/10 Service: Untrained service members but good enough for Ann Arbor and give great effort to attentiveness. 7/10 Ambiance: good ambiance and lighting. Decoration is very dark and modern and is a fantastic foundation. Art choices, and other decor such has the attempted fountain and bonsai trees obviously lacked any taste and brought down the great skeleton. Great walkway into the restaurant. 7/10

The sweet chili sauce is perfect. Thai Peanut Noodles (4/5): The noodles had great texture and the Thai peanut sauce was delicious. The tofu wasn't really crispy and I personally would've loved the option to add some meat. Lamb Dumpling (4/5): Lots of meat in the filling and didn't taste gamy at all. Limited time special. Shrimp Shumai (4/5): Really enjoyed the wonton wrapper. Shrimp flavor came through nicely. Limited time special. House Salad (4/5): Light and fresh. The soy based dressing was sweet, slightly acidic, and not at all overpowering. Warm Chocolate Cake (4/5): Delicious cake with a warm, gooey inside. I personally don't like coconut or chocolate and fruit desserts, but I still enjoyed this a lot. Creme Brulee Tasting (4/5) : Green tea, pumpkin spice, and ginger creme brulees. Loved getting to try a little bit of each flavor (green tea was my favorite). Spiced Caramel Pear (3/5): Not my favorite since I don't generally like cooked fruit. The mascarpone cream and shortbread were good though. There have been some hit-or-misses with the quality of the fish but, I'm Japanese and, for me, "Japanese cuisine" is a lot more than raw fish and their kitchen (as opposed to the sushi bar) has always been reliable. Not so much anymore. :( I had dinner there recently on a Friday night. Ordered the tempura appetizer and 8-9 pieces of sushi a la carte. I asked the waitperson to make sure there was grated daikon for the tempura (I've had to ask before and the tempura was cold by the time they brought it, so I was planning ahead...) I was informed that not only do they not serve it with tempura, there's simply no daikon anywhere in the restaurant to grate. Seriously? First, how does a Japanese restaurant not have any daikon?? Second, if you serve tempura, this is a necessary condiment; it's akin to not having ketchup for a burger. I opted to have fried oysters instead and they were fine. The nigiri sushi I was served *looked* beautiful. Huge pieces of fish, nicely arranged. I'm not sure why Japanese restaurants here think "bigger is better" when it comes to sushi. Nigiri sushi is intended to be eaten in ONE comfortable bite instead of having to try to bite it in half only to have it disintegrate awkwardly all over the table. Why not offer two nigiri pieces per order that's reasonably (and correctly) sized? And then there's the sushi rice. I'm not convinced that the sushi chefs there understand that what makes it "sushi" isn't the fish (or the fancy rolls) -- it's the rice. Sushi rice is supposed to be flavored, while it's steaming hot, with a sugar-vinegar-salt mixture ("sushi su"), which is what keeps the rice moist and sticky in order to keep its shape, and also provide a foil for the fish. Whenever a sushi piece falls apart, it usually means (other than the fact that it's too big) that it's not properly seasoned. It should also never be cold. My simple meal plus a serving of sake, with tip came to almost $100. That's not unreasonably high for a Japanese sushi meal but I think I should be able to count on it being made correctly.

I saw so many people posting about this place on Insta and decided to come out and see if it was worth the hype. It was very worth the hype, the food was absolutely delicious! Due to wanting to try everything, as always, I ordered tons and way too much and ended up with several boxes, bags, and meals. I had a couple drinks, I think they were the x-rated passion and the pear sakitini. They were good, very floral. We started with their soup and salad, which were standard and good. We had so much salad, I did box it up for a couple more meals. Then we tried the crispy chicken buns. They were so good. Since I had so much to eat, we each got one, and it took me two days to finish mine. The chicken was crispy, and I like how the bun was fluffy but also a bit crispy on the outside. We also tried their iconic tuna nachos. The chips were really good. I would have loved a wanton chip instead, as other places do it, but the tuna was so buttery. It was almost as good as the tuna in Hawaii and French Polynesia. I liked to roe and avocado, which was also so creamy. We had a couple sushi rolls. We got the spider roll. It was so crispy and very well make, and the California roll with the kani salad and avocado, no cucumber, which perfect since child hates cucumbers and normally picks them out. It was very fresh and delicious. We also tried their wagyu burger and fries. I personally cannot tell the difference between types of beef, but it was an extremely flavorful, well-cooked burger. We split it in three, and it took a few days to finish my portion. The real star from that meal was the tempura French fries, they were so good and crispy, and very unique. Those are really a must order. We also tried the teriyaki chicken and broccoli. We recently had some very mediocre teriyaki chicken, and I was afraid it was going to taste like that looking at the dish, but it was not. It was so well cooked and flavorful and so was the veg, don't judge a meal on it's looks. It was worth ordering again. But the real, real reason why I was here was for their famous flying lobster noodles. That was really worth the drive. Their noodles were smokey and flavorful, and a large portion it took several meals and three people to finish it. I liked the addition of shrimp with the lobster and it was not fishy, so those of us who do not eat fish could still enjoy the noodles. That is something I would order every time. Funny, I did not realize both of their children were on Food Network, but I did watch those shows at the time. I hear the noodles were in honor of the daughter's show, so thanks for allowing us to taste your amazing looking dish. On the other hand, the service was really only fair. I read other reviews and while the servers were good, they did not really seem to want to engage with us verbally or talk to us. They were very lukewarm at best, even though the rest of their service was great. They were attentive, but not friendly. I do want to come back and order it all over again and then some, so I hope to return soon. This was a really fun place.

My husband and I were very excited to try these pushpops. It's such a great idea! However, this…read moregreat idea needs some tweaks... First, my overall impression of Godaiko is it seems like a nice place. The decor is pretty and the vibe seemed to be very chill. I am curious about how good the regular fare is. The sushi pushpops are only available to-go, and can only be ordered at a kiosk that is set up just inside the door - you almost walk into it. Thankfully my husband and I arrived a bit early, because a line quickly formed behind us that went out the door. The price is decent, considering you are getting a full sushi roll that is very filling. The flavor options are limited to five (5), and only one does not have egg product: three have mayo and Caesar Salad has egg in the dressing. For people who are allergic to eggs - like me - this is really not cool. My husband ordered the Spicy Tuna and the Fire Shrimp (the one I originally wanted). To my despair, my only option was the Philly Philly roll, which I hate. But because we drove 45 minutes to try the sushi pushpops, no way was I not going to get one! I have to admit that the seasoning on the rice gave a good flavor to the Philly Philly roll, so it wasn't complete torture... My husband enjoyed his rolls very much. The soy sauce comes in a narrow tube that doubles as the stick used to push up the sushi. It clips to the side of the carton. One has to be careful when pulling this out of the clip, because for some reason the tube opens at both ends and if you are a little heavy-handed you can end up with sauce on your pants! The Good: Innovative product that sets it apart from its competitors. Taste is good, and the packaging makes this easy to eat on the go. What Needs Improvement: 1). Put an allergy notification/warning about the egg; especially since it is not listed in the ingredients. Thankfully, my intuition told me to ask before I ordered.... 2). Add more flavors; especially egg-free options! A nice shrimp tempura or unagi roll would be good.... Or .. give the option to custom-make the roll so that the mayo can be omitted, giving those who are allergic to egg a chance to enjoy. . Perhaps allow the custom order to be made at the bar so as not to tie up the kiosk. 3). Maybe move the kiosk away from the door so that you're not walking right into it. On a busy day/night, I can see that line being a big annoyance for the customers coming to dine in. 4). Seal one end of the sauce tube. Not sure why both ends need to be opened. 5). Offer more sauce options (we were only given Soy).... 6). Label the tubes! Since the rolls are premade, and not labeled, the risk is high of mixing up the flavors - especially when it's busy. A discreet little label on the bottom of the tube would be fine. All-in-all, getting the sushi pushpops was a fun and novel experience. However, because of the limited flavor options that are heavily mayo'ed, I am rating this experience 3 stars.
