Bialy (weekends only) with house made lox spread.
    Evan W.

Huge Kudos to this small but mighty cafe that's going head-to-head with a bunch of bagel heavy-hitters in close proximity. But what the others may have in size, budget and advertising, NY Bagel Cafe makes up for with excellent food, very friendly service, and tons of charm. This is the privately-owned gem you want to support and to make sure they're rewarded for their efforts. To be honest, I've personally only ever ordered bagels from here, sometimes to go, sometimes to eat in-store, but they have a huge menu of breakfast, lunch and even dinner-type dishes that really aim to keep people coming for much more than bread and cheese. In fact, none of the other local bagel places are offering anywhere near the number of options as this cafe (the closest similar place would be the Old New York Deli & Bakery way over in Canoga Park), and the items this kitchen is putting out can easily do battle with most of the venerable, well-known breakfast spots across the Valley. The bagels are made in-house and offer far more flavor than what you'll get at Western, Noah's or Einstein's. And on weekends you can get a Bialy that actually comes close to the Brooklyn stalwart you just can't find anywhere... and this level of close is definitely appreciated. They also make their own cream cheese in a variety of flavors, and a vegan "spread" that lands somewhere between a cream cheese and a hummus that my vegan son praises for having far more flavor than the other vegan options found in town. Sticking with that theme, NY Bagel Cafe offers a good selection of vegan options in every section of their menu, as well as making vegan cookies, cakes and pastries. If making great food was all they did, that would be sufficient, but they also go the extra mile by decorating the shop with homey bric-a-brac that gives the place a more lived-in feel, and invites you to stay for a while. Staying makes sense, as they also have live music inside or out on the weekends, so why not relax and smell the flowers? or the bagels? Or the waffles? It's all worth some attention from the town, and you'll be glad you gave it a try.

    $8.60 for small iced coffee

I never noticed how much I'm paying for their small iced coffee. It only comes in one size and once you add ice to it it's about three sips of iced coffee. They are charging almost 9 dollars so it was like $8.60 for a small iced coffee that was mostly milk.

I stopped by here this morning to get a blueberry bagel. I was going to pick up an online order for my wife across the street so I parked in the plaza this place is at. There more parking here than the street parking so I prefer that. I came in the morning so they were not busy at all and it was raining. This place has outdoor seating and also inside seating. There also a little stage area for musicians to come play at. I looked at their menu first to see if anything look appealing to me but the prices for the smoothie is on the higher end. So I stuck with the blueberry bagel and asked for cream cheese on the side because if you don't then they'll put a lot on the bagel. The price for the cream cheese is almost the same as the bagel so be aware. I thought my bagel was good especially with it being toasted and adding a little cream cheese. I would come back again if I'm in the area.

Toasted bagel and hand made cream cheese? Amazing cuz it's not my first!!

Absolutely incredible, and I'm talking everything! If you are looking for a New York Bagel go to New York cuz these blow them out of the water!! Incredibly soft, flavorful and delicious! I honestly don't even eat gluten but I WILL eat these. (Shout out to THE best jalapeño cheddar!) Phenomenal cream cheese, garlic spread or hummus to spread on top as well. I was also shocked to receive the best matcha I've ever had, and I'd consider myself a matcha connoisseur. The coffee is also one of a kind, low acidity sourced from New Guinea. You can absolutely taste the difference. The service is fantastic, always helpful and guiding me into exactly what I'm looking for. There is a natural healing tea which I also highly recommend-it's not the greatest tasting tea but the benefits out weigh the flavor. Cutie little patio outside to enjoy all your scrumptious treats too :)

They even have a little stage for live music and open mic nights!

Just moved to the area and stopped by here, was welcomed in with the best service and had an amazing bacon egg and cheese and cold brew! Will be back very soon!

A nice little shop with some great deals. Their nacho fries were really good and their bagel sandwiches are pretty solid. I've tried their Pepperoni Bagel pizza and it had a bit too much sauce on it but otherwise was good. The staff have always been very friendly.

A very unique and interesting cafe! They have healthy teas here for immunity (Brazilian) and smoothies - they also have organic coffee which is my favorite ! Highly recommend! They are cute and very health oriented !!! 10 starts for that !

Loved this place! I was looking for something cheap and gluten free to eat for breakfast and this place was suggested. Food was inexpensive, wish I would have bought more lol. Also the owner was in shop and told me all about the tea they brew there. I'm coming back two days in a row to get the tea because it definitely is healing! Highly recommend the food AND the tea! I even put my friends on and they want more!

Very MID. A tiny space with cool outdoor area. Service was good and locals seem to like this place as well. The food is below OK I got salmon bagel - the size of big mac which is pretty small for almost $20 after tax with no drink. The bagel was falling apart, cream was everywhere, the tomatoes were not ripe and very bland. They use regular thick cuts of fresh onions instead of pickled one - meh. The overall taste was not memorable at all and all this for almost $20. One and done. Not recommended

Came to New York Bagel Cafe since we were craving a New York style bagel and they did not disappoint! We appreciated that they had more breakfast items other than just having bagels on the menu. The service was fast and friendly and they even had a live performer playing the guitar and singing in their outside patio area! This is a spot definitely worth trying out if you're in the mood for a bodega style bagel in sunny LA!

I think I've tried half of the menu here lol. My go to is definitely the New York roll and the mango passion fruit cruffin. I love that they change their New York roll flavours often. What really stood out for me was how well balanced the flavours are in their fillings, especially in the New York roll and the cruffin. They also do really well with their citrus combos like the cruffin, exotic or the mango eclair. I wish there was more custard in their fruit danish and sometimes the croissants aren't as soft, possibly a little overcooked. But the pastry on the cruffin was one of the softest and most delicate I've ever had. The macarons are also great especially the yuzu, passionate, hazelnut and raspberry flavours.

Luckily because it was a Sunday, we found parking right in from r of the store. From the outside and inside it truly has the Parisian patisserie vibe and feeling, which I love! Once we got inside, we were mesmerized by all the beautiful and delicious looking pastries and dessert options. I also love that they have both indoor and outdoor seating options. We decided to sit inside, one because it was way too hot, and secondly there was this aggressive homeless man who threw a chair towards the glass window of the patisserie. That was scary! The girls working there were aware of this, because apparently he's done this a few times, where he's thrown their outdoor furniture around, so they called 911 immediately, so hopefully that won't be an issue for them in the future! Luckily no one was harmed and no glass was broken, and the psychotic man was far gone. My friend and I decided to get two different desserts. I got the pavlova, and which is one of my favorites. I love the creamy and crunch meringue and the combination of the tart berry filling inside. My friend loves peanuts, so she got the dessert that looked like a peanut, which she loved! The two girls working there were really sweet and offered us a free croissant as a compensation for the momentary chaos caused by the aggressive homeless man, which my friend and I truly appreciated. Overall, we had a great experience here, and I'd definitely come back to try some of their other desserts!

It's usually hard to find a bakery that is still open after 6 pm. I decided to try a variety of pastries and ordered an apple strudel, chocolate covered peanut butter bar and a large chocolate chip cookie. They had a very wide selection to choose from. My daughter ordered a lemon bar, slice of lemon cake and a small chocolate chip cookie. My first impression of the desserts that I chose was that they were sweet. I could feel the graininess of the sugar in the chocolate covered peanut butter bar. The strudel was tasty but light on the apple filling. Between the chocolate chips and sugar the cookie was sweeter than what I usually like but still a good cookie. I tried my daughter's lemon bar and I liked it. The things I tried I'm thinking 3 stars, my daughter liked the things she bought so averaging it out maybe a solid 3.5 stars rounded up to a generous 4 stars. Service was okay. Natas has a wide variety of pastries. I think the other items on the menu are more well received. I'll need to go back next time I am in town to try out some of other menu items.

Last weekend,I had the strawberry cake at a birthday party and it was very dry and dense. Loyal Customer, but This Experience May Have Lost My Business…read more I've been a loyal customer of 85°C Bakery Cafe in Sherman Oaks for quite some time and buy virtually all of my baked goods here, so it's disappointing to write this review. Yesterday August 6th was my dad's 99th birthday, and I wanted to make it special. At around 10 a.m., I ordered his birthday cake through the app for a 4 p.m. pickup and used the customization option to request "Happy Birthday" writing on the cake. I arrived around 4:30 p.m. and initially there was no one at the counter. I could see an employee off to the side drinking a coffee. He saw me waiting but didn't acknowledge me and instead went to the back and sent out another employee. From the moment she came out, the interaction was surprisingly unpleasant. I explained that I was picking up the birthday cake I had ordered that morning and gave her my name. She retrieved the box and then abruptly asked, "Where's your confirmation?" I explained that I wasn't sure what she needed because I only had the email I received. I showed it to her, and after looking at it for quite a while, she said "fine" and pushed the cake box toward me. I asked whether the Happy Birthday message I requested was on the cake. She said no and that the person who does the writing wasn't there. I explained that I had placed the order that morning specifically for my dad's 99th birthday and really wanted the birthday message included. I showed my request on the order email. Instead of trying to resolve it, she began helping other customers while I was left standing there. After waiting and explaining that I was already late for my dad's birthday, she eventually went to the back, returned with a small chocolate "Happy Birthday" piece, and placed it on top of the box. That solution was perfectly fine with me--I just wish it had been handled graciously from the beginning. I then asked for a cake cutter and candles, which employees here have routinely offered with cake purchases in the past. Again, I was ignored while other customers were helped. When I repeated that I was late and needed to leave, she rolled her eyes and told me to wait until she was finished with another customer. Eventually she brought them over and simply piled everything on top of the cake box rather than putting the items in a bag. Everyone can have a bad day, and I try to be understanding of that. But the dismissive attitude, eye rolling, repeatedly ignoring me in the middle of our interaction, and general lack of courtesy were unacceptable. What should have been a simple and happy pickup for my dad's 99th birthday became unnecessarily stressful and put a real damper on my afternoon. What makes this particularly disappointing is that I wasn't an occasional customer--I've been very loyal to this bakery. I love the baked goods and have consistently chosen 85°C over other bakeries. But customer service matters too, and after this experience I'm seriously considering finding another bakery for our family's cakes and baked goods.
