Imagine you're in Midtown and you don't want the night to end just yet. Pocha House reliably serves two purposes at this hour, depending on the day of the week. On a slow workday, it's a chill sit-down establishment to have a laugh with your friends. On a Friday or Saturday, it's a lively bar accentuated by all the neon lighting. I'm generally unimpressed by alcoholic drinks but the lychee martini fared above my expectations. It only tastes mild sweet but simultaneously masks most of the alcohol. The S.E.S.ame Dreams tasted similarly light on both the sugar and alcohol. The Pocha Shin Ramen tastes as advertised. It's instant ramen with spicy flavoring with some egg, spam, green onion, and tteokbokki added in there. Standard comfort food but also only $9 -- not bad for a bar. Cute place. Vibrant atmosphere that tends to suit a younger crowd. I might come back to try real food. read more

Wound up here on a Saturday night for a late dinner and did not realize it's basically a club. Like, they had bouncers at the door checking IDs and then we got checked again a couple times during our meal. Apparently that night was their 3 (?) year anniversary, so not sure if this is always the case but they did have a whole live DJ on the main floor. When we arrived there were a couple other tables dining. There isn't much seating inside, and most of the tables ended up being blocked off for bottle service lol Me and my girl were there to eat so we ordered as many dishes as our tiny table could handle! Kimchi Carbonara - TBH this tasted like spaghetti... with some kimchi and bacon. It wasn't bad, but it tasted exactly the way I described it. They should just take the carbonara out of the dish's name completely. I wouldn't order it again, just cause the bacon flavor was really smokey and strong. Spicy wings - These were actually really good! Served with pickled jalapenos, pickled radish, and a cabbage salad! Just make sure you get some rice on the side. The wing sauce was spicy! Not overly, but just enough. It was sweet but not too sweet. I would recommend! Mandu- Decent. Not spectacular, but a good side to round out your meal. The dipping sauce was yummy, a nice sweet soy. Pink Venom - The flavor was so good. Tasted like a pink starburst. If you like sweet drinks, this one is it! Didn't taste the alcohol at all though. Parking sucks so bad, we had to park a couple blocks away and cross some train tracks but we made it! The waiters were so nice and checked up on us even with the whole party going on. The bouncers though didn't pass the vibe check and I didn't really like that we got IDed so many times. We're in our mid 30s lol.. be frr. The whole vibe is fun, they have a full bar and apparently in the back room, it's another bar/lounge scene. Pocha has a fun, night life vibe, instagrammable environment! I love coming here when they have events and their club is open. But I equally love coming here just to eat. They have a variety of different fusion flavors that all tie to Korean cuisine. A must get is for sure their Booty Booldak; other than the fun name lol, it's served with crispy taters and cheese melted on top. I also tried their Kimchi Karbonara for the first time! It was good, but I wished there were more noodles, because we were left with a lot of bacon bits in the end. Our server, Sierra, was so sweet! I've always wanted to come here because my husband and I heard great things especially about the party life at night. We were in the area looking at Yelp bookmark and Pocha House came up. When we went around 5:30 PM, it was not busy at all. It is so cool inside! Between the lights and the black furniture and all of the art, you just can't go wrong. The train even went by which means they offered four dollar shots and of course we had to take one. We love this entire experience. Our server was extremely nice, helpful and kind. I learned about the various drinks they offer. She also had good recommendations for food. The cheese corn was out of this world and having it made in front of you was quite the experience. I came here with a friend for Saturday late night food and we had around a 20 minute wait, so we just waited in the car. There's a lot of residential street parking nearby, so we just ended up chilling and waiting until they gave us a phone call. Fortunately we did not need to wait inside the store, since it was quite packed and the music was really loud. We actually didn't realize it was more of a drinks and dancing type place until it got later in the night and people started filling up the restaurant to dance. The menu is a little overwhelming, but we ordered the kimchi fried rice, the pocha shin ramen, and the bulgogi fries. The food took a little while to come out, but when it did it was piping hot and ready to eat! I enjoyed our food immensely. Service is a little haphazard since it became difficult to flag down our server to get our check later in the night but I understand, it is an overstimulating place to work. The bathroom is such a vibe and perfect for pictures. We ordered a bunch of food (Honorable Mentions: Rose Pasta and Bulgogi Fries). The Rose pasta was seriously delicious with the perfect amount of sauce and shrimp. My friends did say it was slightly too much of a tomato flavor, but I thought it was perfect. I ordered pickup before a show at the nearby Channel 24 and the spicy bulgogi was super yummy! Prices are a little steep but in my opinion, the amount of food you get is worth the price. The spicy bulgogi came with kimchi and an ample helping of rice. My friend got the hot cheeto cheese corn and she liked it, although a little spicy for her taste, so I finished it. The restaurant had a really nice vibe and decor throughout, which extended to the bar at the back of the restaurant and restrooms. We ordered the flight to Seoul (soju flight), doshirak and soy garlic KFC with an extra side of kimchi. The flight-delicious if you like soju. The doshirak was great too. A lunchbox size meal with rice, spam, fried egg, kimchi with seaweed and spicy sauce. The KFC wings (large) with soy garlic were crispy with a nice sauce. It came with pickled radish, jalepino with soy sauce (?) and a small coleslaw with dressing. We asked for a small taste of the spicy sauce in the side (we were told it would be super spicy but it was just the right amount of heat and tasted delicious. Definitely too spicy for some-not Thai spicy). The kimchi is house made and definitely delicious (not too spicy) Super accommodating - when an uninvited friend (fly) joined our extra sauce, they quickly replaced it for us. Five stars for food and drink four stars for ambiance. They play music (a little too rough for me) personally would prefer to hear k-pop : ). tvs are playing movies with no volume. Ironically, I loved the food and didn't care for my cocktail! Our waitress was great from start to finish. We had Soju, Korean Spicy Fried Tofu, Beef Bulgogi, Stir Fried Rice Cakes, Kimchee Fried Rice with Spam. I've been back to Pocha House a few times now and it's a vibe. From the neon lights and great music to the attention to detail, even in spots like the bathroom. I have heard the nightlife is great here, but I prefer the slower hours where I can enjoy a meal or a spot at the bar. I've also ordered takeout when I'm craving Korean food and the experience has always been great. A lot of the food offerings are sharable and meant to be enjoyed along with great friends and drinks. Their soups are delicious and one of the menu items that you'll want to order as a dine in experience. Some of my other favorite items are the tteokbokki, wings and bulgogi, but there's a lot of variety on the menu and a little something for everyone. The portions are generous and everything is so flavorful. I like to sit at the bar when I'm not getting takeout and the staff is always really nice. I love this spot--been here a few times now but this past time we came in on a Monday night, around 6, and were the only ones in there for at least 40 minutes. It was after thanksgiving week so that could've factored into why. Vibe here is immaculate and I know the late night scene is a fun one, but they truly do have some good food!!! The wings are my favorite, a little crunchy, sweet and spicy, well-cooked. I adore the pickled daikon radish on the side and a nice lil cabbage salad. With our first choice for dinner unexpectedly being closed for vacation and a long line ahead of us at our second, you could say we were in a bit of a scramble to figure out where to go next. Do we go to some place tried and true or stick with our original plan of trying something new? After seeing Pocha House in our Yelp search results, though, it sure didn't take us long to try our luck here! Really, as total fanatics of Korean food, how could we ever say no to the prospect of Korean fried chicken?? Walking into Pocha House, there were two things that immediately struck me - that we didn't have to wait for a table (woohoo!) and that the vibe here is super lively. Not in the loud, rowdy sort of way, but that there was a lot of activity going on - a couple of birthday parties, group outings, some date nights, and possibly even a first date next to us. After taking a look at the menu, it was easy to see why folks come here for all sorts of occasions - their Korean pub-style menu has a little of everything for everyone. From their apps, bar bites, and noodles to soups, stews, BBQ meats, and vegetarian plates, there were more dishes that caught our eye than we could hope to finish! -- BULGOGI FRIES - French Fries Topped with Bulgogi, Kimchi, Garlic Mayo, Kimchi Mayo, Green Onion, and Sesame Seeds...$15 This was so good! The fries were fried to the perfect crispiness and had a lot of toppings. In particular, I liked that they didn't skimp on the bulgogi (though, I'll always take more) and how it well all of the flavors married together. Delish! -- SOY GARLIC KFC - Korean Fried Chicken Wings Tossed in Soy Garlic Sauce Topped with Green Onion & Sesame Seeds Served with Cabbage Salad and Pickled Radish and Jalapenos...$19 The portion felt a little light for the money, but this tasted great. The batter was crunchy and not super thick while the chicken itself was both moist and piping hot. If anything, the soy garlic sauce was a bit on the sweet side, but it really wasn't that bad. While there's nothing about our meal at Pocha House that I regret, I do wish we had come here under different circumstances. Namely, with more people and/or when we were looking for something heftier to eat so that we could've tried more of the menu. Given how we only got two dishes to go with our drinks, this does feel a little incomplete. Though, admittedly, this probably has more to do with my FOMO for the things that we didn't get to check out, like their Budae Jjigae and Fire Booty Booldak! Ambiance was great, they played all the current hip-hop and R&B jams. Was def vibing singing along on very warm early summer evening. It's an interesting decor with a dark base of smoke gray/black but with pops of color from what looked like fluorescent lighting? But it was daylight so I don't know for sure. Service was great, Justine and Kim (on the first visit) Ang and Em (on the second visit) were very kind, hospitable, and super cool. Granted it seemed like I got there before a dinner rush both times, I think there was only two parties there at the time each time. They said there's a DJ Friday nights at 10, but not clubby haha. They got the sauce down too, you can taste the ingredients (it's not too sweet as places usually are). Big contender for best bite of the night Bulgogi Fries 9.2/10 Honestly, we only ordered these because we saw a review raving about it. Normally don't order French fries at restaurants just because we're skeptical. These did not disappoint. Fries came super crunchy and still had a nice bite in the middle. Seasoned well, the kimchi topping was better than the side Kimchi order. The Bulgogi was some of the best I've had. Seasoned well, cooked nicely. Sauce on the Fries was really good, couldn't tell what it was. Soondubu (Spicy Tofu Soup) 8.5/10 Pretty standard, would order again, spice level was tolerable and similar to what we get at other places. Seasoned nicely. Came here for an event last month and couldn't wait to return. My peeps and I had a little bit of everything and were so full after. I started with a pineapple cider and boy was it tasty. While I enjoyed my cider I probably would have been better off with sharing two soju bottles with the tables. Once my party arrived per the suggestion of the server we ordered a lychee soju for the table and whew it creeps up on ya! For the appetizer we ordered the bulgogi fries which gave us some of everything and yooooo it was so good!!! From the kimchi to the bulgogi the mix of flavors were chefs kiss. As a non beef eater I did taste the bulgogi and it was so good . A little sweetness to the meat and well seasoned. Had to stop myself from eating more but wanted to at least see what the hype was as I didn't taste it the previous visit. For the entrees two of us had. Soy KFC and the other had the tteokbokki with added fried seaweed rolls. While they don't have happy hour which is of course a bummer for 3 entrees, 1 appetizer, 2 drinks, and a bottle of soju all for $118 that's pretty darn good in my book!!!
