SERVICE DEPARTMENT: This is what makes this dealership. Stunning service, excellent resolve and skilled technicians. Nissan service departments are usually just fair to good. Never excellent (I'm on Nissan #7). Nissan itself never rewards loyalty and it's often impossible to tell one service department from the next. There is an exception: It's the service manager at Hanlees Davis Nissan. His name is Steve. Turns out he came from BMW... Where expectations are very high and customers demand much much more. He's highly skilled and yet as mellow and easy going as can be. Fits the Davis client perfectly. They're well educated and so is Steve. He can detect an issue with your Nissan in just minutes. I read a few other reviews/postings on here and yes, you'd hope for and expect their complimentary Wi-Fi to function (especially for business clients and students) but it hardly ever does. Please buy a router and modem of quality... There is really bad coffee for clients wanting to wait and a paid snack/vending machine as well. Or walk to several close-by restaurants as well. TV (CNN) runs daily in the waiting area and magazines are plentiful. I've never purchased a Nissan here so I can't review sales. I just bought my Gen 1 Honda Insight this weekend. My previous car was a money pit and my commute is 40 miles each way so I buckled down and bought a hybrid commuter car. Gen 1 Insights are rare and this dealership had a sweet deal on a low mileage 2001. I live in LA so upon talking to the salesman Kevin Lee I flew up the next day. Kevin picked me up from Oakland airport right on time. Thanks to Kevin I was in and out of the dealership in 2 hours! They paid for $2500 battery change at the local Honda dealership and still gave me a fair price on the car. I drove it down to the bay area this weekend and had no problems. I've never bought a car from a dealership before because lets face it most dealers try to screw you over REALLY HARD. These guys were reasonable and easy to work with. So if you come in and know what you want you should come out with a price that is fair. Not as low as buying through a private party but not as high as other dealers for sure (and I've called dealers all over America for this car). The only foreseeable improvement is adding women to the salesforce. I still get intimidated by the all male sales team looking over at you as they make a decision whether or not to bargain with you. To be fair I never felt pressured by Kevin in any way. He was a very compassionate salesman. Overall it was a great experience and I love my Insight! read more

Was in the market for a Rogue. Turns out they had what I wanted, went back and forth with them via email until we agreed on a price. Drove all the way up there to find out the car I wanted was not there, they had a silver instead of the black. I was pretty pissed..actually really pissed. They eventually made things right by finding me the black with more options for the previously agreed upon price.. And delivered it to my house. The finance guy was quick and easy to deal with too. All in all they were open to price negotiation , didn't mind sending me their qoutes in writing and made their wrong right. Besides the initial hiccup I had a good experience with them. I give all the credit to Charles Stewart, he's the one who stepped in and found what I wanted and more, while honoring the original price. I was just here to check out some cars because they were having some promotions. Really hard to tell what kind of deal you are getting into when most of the cars do not have prices on them. The best part was that I when arrived their sales guys had "appointments" so I was ignored most of the time. When I was at UCD, bought an Altima here. I was so naive and clueless, especially since it was my first car purchase from a dealership. This place pretty much taught me all the lessons in personal finance that anyone could need...so in a way, I should thank them. Nonetheless, I ended up paying almost double what the car was worth in ridiculous interest (19%), took me many years to pay off!!! My credit was destroyed as I tried to pay up each month...lots of stress during and after college. It cost me a position at a grad program, an apartment, etc. This dealership got me on so many little things, it was almost criminal...but I should have known better...and they probably knew I couldn't afford the car...'but made it happen' Lesson: research, plan, and visit 2-3 dealerships before buying anything. and whatever they say you can afford, lower by 40% or more. read more

This review is for the sales department at Hanlees Nissan. I came to Hanlees Nissan as it was close to my Davis home when Nissan came out with their updated Maxima sport sedan. I'm unable to recall the name of the salesperson who assisted me, but lhe was unmotivated and not very knowledgable about the Maxima- sure, it was a new model (they only had one in stock), but aren't salesperson supposed to 'woo' the prospective clients by learning about every single feature of the car, whether it's fresh on the market for 5 days or stale after being on the market for 5 years? The sales representative didn't know much when I inquired about the availability of a navigation system and the sport package, and I had to find the trunk-release button myself. I even made up a question to ask if the taillights are LED (which they are), and he shrugged, saying "I'm not sure, they appear to be." Then, about a week later, I went down the street into Hanless Toyota to look at the Scion tC and Corolla S; the experience similar to this. I am giving this place 5 stars because I have to say that I have been to a few dealerships and this one by far was the best car buying experience. We were there for 5 hours however it didn't feel like that at all the time felt like it flew by. I was just in the market for a new car, because my last one died and the cost of repairs exceeded the value of the vehicle. I knew the time had come. This was my first time buying a brand new car, now that I have a great job and good pay, I could afford to, but I also wanted something affordable with great gas economy. After lots of research I narrowed down my options. My parents helped me select the car and helped me pick out the car I wanted in Sacramento, where we live. They have bought several new vehicles and I have heard stories about how closing the deal is one major pain in the ass because of how much you get pressured to add every little thing to the car. Once I had my mind made up on a Nissan Sentra, I sent out a request through the Nissan website for internet quotes. I contacted about 12 dealerships, all within a 50 mile radius. Not only was Charles at Hanlees the quickest to reply, he gave me the best quote AND he didn't try to add things to the package over the phone to add more costs to the vehicle (like bluetooth, moon roof, spoiler, custom this, paint protection, extra insurance.) We called ahead and had them draw up the papers, and we were out of there in an hour flat, including getting told in great detail how to use all the features on the car, every button and option. Charles was a pleasure to work with, and Karl, the finance manager was also a treat. Both were both very funny guys that were very casual to work with and all added warranties or insurance coverages were just offered to me as an option, but it was NO pressure. Fabulous car buying experience. I already had my defenses set high and was worried that I was going to get pressured and prodded and have to say "no" to everything 10 times. At the end of the day, this is how salesmen should be: genuinely there to HELP you, and best of all both people I worked with listened to me say exactly what I wanted. No hassles. So I guess I know where I will be looking if next time I decide to stick to Nissan! Thank you so much Hanlees! Josh Herron was incredibly accommodating and helpful. Unfortunately, it took an encounter with a very inflexible and deceptive finance manager (who shall go unnamed) to get to Josh. After being told that the deal I'd wanted (which I explicitly described when I walked into the dealership) could definitely be done, I let the finance manager run a credit check, only to hear him go back on his word of offering what I'd asked for. To save myself the time, I just left. Good thing, because the next day, I got emails and calls from Josh Herron, who'd looked over my credit application and offer and promised to make the deal happen. After revisiting and two hours of chatting, I was signing papers for a deal a tad better than what I'd asked for. The negotiating experience was a bit tough at first, but it was all resolved in the end! This is for the service department. Made an appointment online (super easy). Brought my car in first thing Monday morning (7:30am). They opened the doors and got me checked in by 7:45am. The front under fender (the plastic thing on the bottom of the car that is supposed to make it more aerodynamic) had pulled loose from the rest of my car (it's plastic and it just pulled away from the bolt). It was scraping the ground and making a terrible noise. The service guy (Mike) showed me photos of the issue and the quick fix they did (plugged it back into the groove and reattached the bolt w/a washer to cover the widened hole. The whole thing took about an hour and they didn't charge me anything for it. (They did advise me to get the fender replaced in the long term b/c it will just pull out again if I hit something on the highway). I thought it was so nice of them to do a quick fix and not charge me! read more

Unfortunately I did not read the reviews before purchasing from this dealership. I am dissatisfied with the "run around" I feel I have been experiencing over the last several days. I feel that as soon as this dealership had a guaranteed sale from me, they immediately became disinterested in knowing that I am in fact a satisfied customer. This type of behavior does not create customer loyalty and is an overall poor business practice. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! I am currently resolving two separate concerns with several staff members simultaneously. And for whatever reason, these different associates and managers do not communicate effectively, or if they do, they like to portray ignorance. I purchased a used car from this dealership on a Monday that had not been detailed. I said I would come back with the expectation that I would return for a detail within the next day or two. This was not the case. I also was having tint added to my windows, contingent upon my viewing window samples, sensors, and scratches on my bumper and trunk buffed out. On to the car detail: Most people who spend thousands of dollars expect to have a clean car at the very least. To have to wait four days or more for my car to be detailed is absolutely unacceptable. UNACCEPTABLE! The sales assistant, Barbara, who sold me the car was initially kind and helpful, but no longer seems to advocate on my behalf and uses her, "I'm new at this location", as an excuse instead of acquiring the necessary information that she should have in order to satisfy my queries. I have called both the finance manager and sales associate to follow up with my car and have NOT been independently contacted by either of them which leads me to believe that if I am not persistent, my needs will not be met. Raj nor Barbara provided their designated business cards and instead Raj provided his contact information on someone else's extra business cards. Unprofessional. Barbara gave me her cellular number directly but said she had not yet received business cards. My other concern is that upon leaving the dealership, I was provided with only ONE key to my car without any spares. I began to drive off and immediately called Barbara to tell her that she didn't give me the spare keys. She then goes on to tell me that she doesn't have any and I told her I would like two copies which is standard with a car purchase. She replies by saying she will "take care of it for me". She then texted me regarding references that she needs from me and I remind her again about the keys and she responds by saying she will not return to work until Wednesday, disregarding the statement I made about the keys. Wednesday morning around 11:30, I had not yet heard from Barbara regarding my keys. Of course I take the initiative to call her. She tells me that she was coincidentally entering my information into her computer and how funny it is that I happened to call. When I ask about the keys, she tells me again that the previous owner only returned one key and that there are no spares. That's not my problem. It was never disclosed to me that I would only receive one key with my car! I do not care about the previous owner, I only care that another set of keys are provided to me at no cost. This is not an unreasonable request. She tells me she will speak with her sales manager and call me back. Three hours later I receive a call from Barbara, who informs me that her General Manager will split the cost of a $300 key, meaning I must still pay $150 to have an additional key made. Wtf?! Barbara then tells me I can come into the dealership on Thursday to get my car detailed and asks me if I want the key ordered which she says will take a day. With me being aggravated, I told her I'll think about the key. In terms of the detail, I explained that Raj told me the car features should be ready for installation by the end of the week, and since I have now waited several days, Thursday is nearing the end of the week. What's up? Should everything be able to be completed at once? She tells me she doesn't know and that Raj is not at work. Eye roll. She tells me to come in on Thursday. read more

This review is based on my visit to the service department. I came for an oil change on a Friday morning and had a good experience. Everyone I spoke with during my visit was friendly and professional. They had coffee and donuts available for their customers that morning. I'm assuming donuts were provided because it was a Friday, who knows. Either way, it's nice to offer your customers something nice while they wait in the lobby. Although I had an overall good experience, there is one thing I didn't like. When I told the woman at the front that I was there for an oil change, she asked if I also wanted to add a tire rotation. However, the way she worded it made it sound like the tire rotation was included with my service. Luckily after I said 'yes' I checked to see if it was included and she said that there would be an additional charge. When it comes to my car, I like shops that don't try to upsell me or word things in tricky ways to make it sound like items are included. I'll most likely return to this location but will make sure I ask about the cost of recommended services before agreeing to anything. read more

I have to say, I am very disappointed. I came in for a routine service and asked them to look at the exhaust manifold due to excessive rattling. The service "advisor" informed me they could barely hear it, lie. Then I asked if it was covered under my extended warranty. He informed me it was not. As a previous service advisor with Nissan, I was skeptical. I drive the car to Florida and needed another service. I asked the advisor here if the warranty covered it. He said absolutely. I was a bit frustrated. I have two stars since the service was good and fairly quick...not really. My advice to the service manager would be to have the "advisor", read up on what's covered under the Gold Premium extended warranty. Just went to this dealership last week during the highest daily number of Covid cases per day in the Country so far, (because I needed a part for my car, that I was told when I called, I could only get from a dealership). When I walked inside every employee except one was not wearing a face mask. I waited for service at the parts counter, and when the woman came out she was not wearing a mask either, and I stayed about 10 feet away from the counter. She asked how she could help me, I told her I needed a new battery for my key fob, and I asked her if she could put on a mask because I am in the high risk category for Covid. The women rolled her eyes, let out an exasperated breath as she looked at me. After a moment she told me to put my key fob on the counter and she walked away. I walked up to the counter, set down my key fob, and then moved way back again. The woman came back without a mask much to my surprise, and picked up my key fob and wslked into the back again. After some time she finally came back, wearing a mask this time, however she only managed to have the mask covering her mouth, with her nose uncovered. Super unnerving to be there. I will no longer be bringing my business to this dealership. read more

Although we've had bad experiences with Hanlees in the past, I decided to give them another shot because they had a used car that I was interested in. Responding to the invitation on their webpage, I sent a message asking to arrange to test drive that particular car via text, & received an auto response saying I'd get a text. 60 seconds later, received a phone call from Doug Magee, which I didn't answer because I asked for a text. 5 minutes later, I got a text asking how he could help me, which I didn't answer because I had already told him what I wanted. 2 minutes after that I received a text asking what time I'd like a test drive. I set a time and asked "Is that vehicle actually in Davis?" to which he replied "Yes it is" and gave me the address. Arrived for my test drive to be told by Doug that the car wasn't there, because it had been transferred to another location, but he could find me some cars to test drive. Don't really know what else he had to say because I was already walking out. I bought a car from a non-Hanlees location 15 minutes later. I made an appointment a week ago, but usually I'll make it the night before and they we usually take the appointment. Most of the time it's for an oil-change - with tax and all, it comes out to $35. Pretty pricey oil change if you ask me. The wait is an hour long or sometimes even longer. One good thing about this place is they have FREE WIRELESS! Just have to get it from the cashier lady - she'll give you a username and a password. BUT, there's a BUT! I'm very disappointed by this because BOTH times when I came they DIDN'T have free wireless for me. They "ran out" of the piece of paper that has the username and password. Really? Come on? You don't just "run out" of the paper and that's how you "run out" of internet? Don't you just keep the username and password somewhere and give it to your customers? I really can't get over the fact that they have to hand out little pieces of paper with username and password - and if they "ran-out," NOPE - NO INTERNET FOR YOU. Great! I have to sit here for 1.5 to 2 hours doing nothing - No yelping, No facebook, no gchat, no email, no skype, no amazon, NO INTERNET! I'm sitting in Nissan writing my yelp through word. I'm very disappointed. I should have just sat in McDonalds across the street because they have FREE WIRELESS - without a "piece of paper." Other than that, Steve, I guess he is main service guy, is pretty nice. Every time I come here, every three months (yes, indeed I give them good service and I don't get it in return - no wireless), has helped me all the time. He gets a little disappointed when I don't get like the 30,000 or 60,000 miles service. I know I should get it, but it's like $539 - and a poor college student cannot afford that. Maybe next time. Here's the breakdown of the stars: (1) Steve the service man: 5 stars. (2) Cashier lady: 5 stars. (3) Wireless internet: 0 stars - very disappointed. FYI - don't offer free wireless, if you can't give out free wireless. And let me repeat, this happened twice. You can't just "run out" of free wireless. How do you even do that? Anyone that has used truecar recently has noticed it has undergone a major change. Before it would ask you what dealerships you were interested in and where you were looking. Now it looks at where you have looked at before and sends your info out to any and all dealerships around those before it even shows you quotes. For me this means I got bombarded with calls texts and emails in BOTH areas. I only want the so Cal ones. To the northern cal dealerships I explained what happened and they laughed it off and said good luck. I tried the same approach with Ali when he texted me. He goes on to text a rather nasty response that I attached here. Rude and condescending person. No wonder they are so desperate. Hanlees Nissan in Davis has the most absolute WORST customer service. I purchased my vehicle from them in July 2016 and since then I have gotten the runaround from every person that works there! I actually love my car, but I purchased a pre-paid maintenance package that I pay for every month and it somehow was never entered into their system. I call every single week and I'm given the same lame excuse that they are "working" on it. One exuse - that finance guy doesn't work here anymore. Another excuse - our system was down because if the storm! These people are a joke! I even got a call at my work that my car is overdue for maintenance! Yet they will charge me if I go get it done! This review is for their Service Department. Two things to say: 1) They quoted me $1100 to replace a radiator. This is absurd. The break-down was $210 for the part, and the rest was for labor... and the service guy told me that he was giving me a discount and was on my side. For my car make & model, the total cost according to online research should be somewhere between $500 min. and $750 max. That means the total labor should be about 2 hours. I called another shop in Davis and the estimate they gave me was $540, including tax, parts, and labor. 2) When I came to pick up my car (which had been towed there, due to the busted radiator), they wanted to charge me an hour of labor just from giving me the estimate, which for them is $145. I asked them what the labor was for, since they had told me the top of my radiator was totally cracked (which anyone can see just by lifting the hood, no expert diagnosis needed there), and the guy told me they had to do 'pressurization testing.' I asked to talk to the guy who did the work, and was told no, I couldn't. When I finally saw my car and the radiator (hadn't seen the radiator the day it was towed because of all the steam coming out from under the hood), the top of my radiator was ripped to shreds. I don't think pressurization testing would have even been possible. I guess different auto shops run on different principals. I understand businesses need to make money. But I've been to some auto shops that are honest with you when they don't do any work and don't charge you, because that's what makes you want to come back. This is NOT one of those places. EDIT IN RESPONSE TO BUSINESS' COMMENT: The thermostat is a $10-20 part. I bought one today from a local auto part store. The estimate from the other auto shop that I got for $540 included replacing the thermostat, as well as the radiator. That still leaves the estimate from Hanlees Nissan at double ($540 more) than the other auto shop I got a quote from. read more

Everything was generally taken care of in the end, however I write this review to bring awareness to the customer service in the service department. I was given mis-information twice by the service manager. Once about how to get a car loaner and then at pick was told I never mentioned the key fob needed new batteries- which was false. Please make sure you are giving out accurate information and listening to your customers, as I would appreciated being able to trust and keep going to our local Nissan dealer. read more

I wish I could give negative stars.....So I have a car I bought from these guys, its been garaged and barely driven since I bought it. I noticed that there was a crack in one of the tires, which have less than 2000 miles on them. So I called the service department at Hanlees, they advised me that the Nissan warranty does not cover the tires but the tire manufacturer's warranty does, and my options were to 1. Take it to the Big O in Davis and ask them to replace the tire under warranty, 2. To bring it in, have Nissan's service adviser look at it and it usually took about a week to get a new tire. I did both. I went to Big O, they couldn't replace something they didn't sell and told me my best bet would be through the dealership. I went to Nissan, and they said that I could buy the tire, and they were not going to have it replaced under the manufacturer's warranty. So naturally I asked to speak with the sales manager, Sue heard my story, went back to look at the tire, spoke with the service advisers and then came back and just told me "no." When I asked for clarification as to what she was telling me no for, she stated that "no" here's a number to call Nissan Consumer affairs. She just had a blank stupid look on her face. I was in that place for an 1 hour and 45 minutes, speaking with service reps, the service manager, and then finally the sales manager, and they were all just monotone and unconcerned. Why wouldn't you take care of a customer who you know has family that bought their cars there, and the word of mouth would spread? I was expecting an apology at the very least for the misinformation. But nothing. Instead they made me feel like it was my fault for the crack in the tire. Once I called consumer affairs, and they spoke the the service manager, the representative advised me that the service manager had stated that they were not going to warranty it out because of "customer negligence." Really? The staff at this dealership acted as though once they sold me the car, they'll never have to deal with me again, and that's exactly the way they treated me. If I could give Hanlees Davis Nissan negative 10 stars I would. I recently purchased a Nissan Leaf from them and needless to say was more than disappointed with their customer service. Problem after problem occurred, several of which was not their fault but their lack of concern/communication about the issues was baffling. It was pretty clear that getting your money was their main objection and customer satisfaction after purchase is of little concern to them. I have purchased a few cars from different dealers in the past and this experience far exceeds any of your worst car buying nightmares. If you have no issues post purchase with your car this might be an ok place to go, but if you have any unexpected issues with your vehicle and want any sort of post-purchase customer service I'm pretty sure you are out of luck. On a side note, I love my car, I just hate this dealer. They seem like scam artists to me. I delayed my writing of this because the manager Sue had offered what seemed like a sincere apology and a remedy to the problem. But it has been 2 months since we last spoke and I am still waiting. I came to Hanlees Nissan for the 2nd time and it will be the last. I usually get my oil changed at Elk Grove Nissan but because I got a flier from Hanlees about UCDavis student and staff discounts and a limited time $10 oil change I decided to give them another chance even though the first visit was not great. BIG MISTAKE... To good to be true... Yup. My limited time $10 oil change increased to $39 for labor and taxes. So that's $10 move then What I pay at Elk Grove Nissan. Could I use my UCDavis discount? No, not with my "special". On top of it their air conditioner was broken on a 90 degree day! For the hour I sat there I only heard complaints from other clients and ALL around inappropriate conversation from staff. So, I'll continue going to Elk Grove Nissan were oil changes are $29 with discount (almost always) and come with complementary car washes and vacuuming. read more

Even though that specific car didn't fit my needs, Joan kept in touch with me for a MONTH when she saw options that met my criteria. She kept my budget in mind and didn't try to push anything on me just to make a sale. When we found the perfect car, she introduced me to Barb who walked me step-by-step through the financing options, explaining everything in detail. By the end of the transaction, they were both waving me off as I drove away in my perfect new car. I'm so grateful that I met honest people that weren't just trying to make numbers.
