If you eat enough lunches in the city, sooner or later you get sick of every sandwich place. When Hannah's Bretzel opened, I wasn't very optimistic about yet another fancy sandwich place and it took a couple visits for this place to warm on me. It wasn't until I tried the Sergio's special that I realized that Hannah's is making some damn fine sandwiches. I'm not the biggest fan of the side choices, and I'm not going to pay $5 for some fancy pants chocolate bar. But I will continue to pay a staggering $9 for the Sergio's Special because, yes, it is that good. read more

The only reason they are not getting a five star is because of the pricing. It seemed a bit on the high side, otherwise I absolutely loved their sandwich. I went there for lunch today for the first time and fell in love with the turkey and cheese pretzel baguette. It was simply delicious and did not leave me feeling overly full. The apple slices were the perfect sweet and crunch I needed with the sandwich. I can't wait to go back and try other sandwiches and definitely try their gluten free bread. Hannah's Bretzel is perfect if you are looking for a satisfying lunch that isn't too heavy. The vibe is cool and relaxing with tons of seating and cozy couches and cushions. My favorite is the free range chicken and avocado baguette sandwich. (The chips are amazing too!) I tried the turkey and cheese recently and was not impressed- it was incredibly bland. My only suggestion would be to expand the offering of soups. I've been here a lot and have yet to see a soup option that I'd like. read more

Hannah's Bretzel is slowly becoming one of my usual lunch spots. My favorites are the pesto and mozzarella or the Italian Parma Ham + Goat Cheese, both of which are pretty hard to mess up, right? Sometimes the pretzel bun is okay and a bit tough, but usually I find it to be soft and oh so good that I could eat an entire loaf of it. I tend to get here post busy lunch time (i.e. 1:30-ish), so the line and wait time not that bad. Oh I applaud them for placing the chocolate bars in the center so you can view and drool while waiting in line. My favorite is the Green and Black's Organic Dark Chocolate (70%). It's quite delicious and is a great treat after my sandwich. read more

So good. I had the soup/sandwich lunch combo. The avocado green pea soup was pretty good and the portabella truffled goat cheese sandwich was outstanding. Love HB, but at this location the staff needs to smile more. I always seem to encounter an unfriendly worker and you feel like you're making them madder if you ask a question. Also - huge pet peeve - I get you're trying to conserve, but PLEASE leave the napkins and utensils out for ME to choose. Who gives you ONE napkin? An above average lunch place for above average prices. Tastes like you made the sandwich using fresh ingredients out of your refrigerator but costs much more. However you get a higher level of quality so it is worth it. Had the sirloin & gruyere (aka roast beef) and it was great...how ever with chips and a drink it was $14..for a small sub sandwich! read more

I've been a few times for lunch- really tasty, fresh sandwiches. I also enjoy the variety of high-quality chocolate. Only downside is the price- it's pretty expensive, so I normally go for whatever sandwich is on special or get the smaller size. Other than that, I find it a good place for a quick meal. read more

Gave this place another try today. Was immediately reminded of why I don't enjoy the service here. I did not want a sandwich so I came up to the cashier to order 2 cookies and a pretzel. Even though there was an entire group of employees behind the counter no one acknowledged me. When I asked for help one employee very begrudgingly agreed to help but seemed clearly put off. I was charged 9 dollars for two 1.30 cookies and a pretzel. Is that even possible??? In any event, team morale is miserably low at this location. I usually only write good review. I'm not big on negativity. but unfortunately that's why I'm writing today. I went into this location to grab a breakfast sandwich. I got more than I bargained for. I walked into a training session where one worker (I hope not the manager?) was berating an employee for not making the eggs correctly. I'm a trainer by profession so I get it-people need to learn. But I think it's super unprofessional to talk to an employee like that at all, let alone in front of customers. I told the beratee that he was doing a great job, to try to show the positive! Not a good way to start the day. I would think Hannah's Bretzel would want to keep employees and customers. Not drive them away. read more

Gluten Free?... 'eh, ok MAYBE...but not Celiac Friendly. Don't confuse the two! On the plus side, they have gluten free bread that seems to be homemade (though I've never asked) However, Ton of xcontamination here, the knives that spread everything onto the sandwich breads are dumped back into the bins and all of the sandwich toppings, meats, etc. are shared as well. Basically, I can get away with eating their bread (which is plastic wrapped to avoid xcontamination) with individually packaged nutella and/or cream cheese. Also, in the morning, I can get a breakfast sandwich without worrying about too much. I'm not sure if the bacon included on the breakfast sandwiches is gluten free, but eggs and cheese on gf bread is pretty amazing in itself. I wish they served this all day so I could get a legit meal at Hannah's at any time of the day. They also have the world's largest supply (ok, at least the largest I've ever seen) of chocolate bars... including a few gluten free varieties! Everything from bacon covered chocolate to classics like Milka, chocolate lovers will be in heaven here I'm sure. As a side note, a European friend of mine who has been dying for "real" bread absolutely loves the bretzels here.... so much so he said the toppings/sandwich fillings "ruin" how delicious the bread is on its own. I guess if you're a sucker for european bread, this stuff is pretty close to the original! read more

3.5 I had a free hour or so in Chicago recently and wanted to grab a slice of authentic deep dish pizza, but apparently it takes an hour just to make the pizza & they don't sell by the slice . So I came here instead after seeing this local chain was rated highly on Yelp. Their thing is "bretzel" aka pretzel bread. I'm not a big pretzel person so I wasn't wowed by the bread but I thought it was fine. The guy pointed out to me that they were still offering breakfast around 1 pm on Sunday so I decided to have an egg & cheese on the baguette shaped bread. They scramble the egg in front of you, which is awesome. So many restaurants use those microwave egg patties. Unfortunately, the cheese was freezing cold and didn't get properly melted so the sandwich didn't have the gooey texture it should have had. It was still good though, and I appreciated that they had a low sodium option for the bread. It seems a tad pricey (my egg & cheese was $5 and not huge) but it was fun to try and the guys working there were really nice so I'll round up to 4. read more

My first time at this location, and it was waaaaay less crowded than the one I went to down in the Loop. I got the Thanksgiving sandwich which was pretty darn tasty - it comes by default on whole wheat and they had already spread cranberry chutney on it before I realized I wanted pretzel bread, damn, so I missed that delicious opportunity. Great flavor from the cranberry and brie combination, and lots of fresh tasting smoked turkey! I was bummed that the sides were only almonds, or soy nuts, or chips. I think the Loop location had a roasted veggie side option - maybe they've all changed now. They had roasted veggies for purchase in a larger portion that was about $3. I really wanted them but the sandwich itself was $8.50 and it's not that big - getting anything else besides the sandwich just makes the lunch pretty darn expensive. But they do have soups, salads, and a crap ton of delicious looking fancy chocolate. Everyone's all "the sandwiches are so tiny!" and I think we're just cultured as Americans to think we should have massive portions. I like being able to finish my food. I think it's about the same size as a Subway 6 inch. Only, you know, higher quality and organic and fresher and actually good. But it's pricey, so it wouldn't be my everyday lunch spot. read more

Went here for the first time today and loved it! I had the thanksgiving on GF bread. You can get any sandwich on GF bread!! I have been trying to place an order for pick-up for a client meeting I am having, and have not had a good experience. I understand the policy of placing an order for 5 or more items within 24 hours for catering. However, I needed 4 items, that I was arranging to have picked up, and they would not accommodate that. i love this place & i love that this place just keeps getting better! i am not a morning person, hannah's happens to be on my walk to work and every morning i make a beeline from the door to the register where i'm warmly greeted and a simple nod gets them started on my usual (and kind of particular) order. they have an awesome selection of sodas, chocolates, hippo-shaped biscuits...and it's all organic! after months of coming in, one day i noticed that they had a lunch/salad selection as well, the owner couldn't stop laughing @ my "not being a morning person" @ 9:30, but was sweet and gave me a free chocolate. if it's raining, they have huge umbrellas that you can borrow for the day. seriously, this place is pretty much perfect. read more

Think McKayla, "not impressed" smirk. Thats how I felt after a couple bites of my bretzel. It was not worth the mile walk and also was not worth the $9.50. I ordered the Thanksgiving 365 bretzel. No it did not taste like Thanksgiving. It tasted like thinly sliced turkey, some cranberry spread, and some brie. I do love all those things but the combo was too dry. The bretzel made the sandwich better but could not save the lack of sauciness hence requiring a big gulp of water to get each bite down. My stuffed up nose may have muted the taste a bit, but Im blaming the sandwich. The customers always right. Favorite thing about the place- the name. How creative! Great sandwich selections complete with calorie and fat content ... COOL! I had the turkey and brie sandwich with a side of almonds. I was completely full and the sandwich was delicious. The reason I'm giving this location 2 stars is because I've seen flies hovering around the food. I saw one land on a banana bread and it grossed me out. Although I really like their soup and some of their items, the customer service is really hit or miss. Today I ordered a soup and salad, to go. When I got back to my office, I realized that they did not include the salad dressing. Very frustrating. GF bread is too dry. The sandwich was crumbling and because of the lack of filling, it was just bite after bite of dry crumbly bread. Yuck. The guy at the register was rude but whatever he just rang us up so we had a very short interaction. I think I would like to go back but to a different location and maybe try some soup. Unfortunately I haven't eaten here yet, and based off my quick experience over the weekend, I'm not sure I'll return. After arriving at 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon to see if it was open and to check out a menu, an employee in a chefs coat rudely and abruptly told us it was closed and walked away. I asked if we could look at the menu, and although he said "sure," his annoyance did not go unnoticed. He was cleaning and moving chairs and made it clear we were "in the way." Wouldn't you think he would approach these obviously new and potential customers to ask if we had any questions or to chat for a moment in hopes that we return for the full experience? Us too.
