I really like this place! They have a good menu, and a great vegan/vegetarian section. Their vermicelli is huge, and it fills me up every time. I think its a whole family who runs the place. They are all nice, and Junior is super awesome and friendly. I would for sure recommend this place for big groups or a date. read more

I have not been to this establishment in many years, and decided to give it a try from all the great reviews. Well......it was quite a disappointment to say the least. After looking at the menu, I was quite excited with the authentic dishes they had to offer, since many other restaurants didn't offer them. Almost 20-30 minutes later, the owner, who also took our order, came back to verify the order and stated she made a mistake. Another 10 minutes later, my husband and kids get their meals, but I'm still waiting for mine. The owner comes back and says they burnt the meat for my order and have to make a new one!!! At this point, it's been almost an hour and I'm starving!! Finally get my food, but it was too salty and was not impressed with this place. The portions were tiny, like appetizer portions. Only rated 1 star cause there isn't a 0 star... So where do I start? We first sat down and the waitress who happens to be the owner as well, takes our order and bring us back water. She then takes our order and tries to memorize it which isn't a big deal, except she had to re-ask us our order twice because she forgot.. Whatever no big deal, we just wanted some food. She brings back two of our orders and the other two we assumed were coming right behind. Nope we had to wait 20 minutes for the other two plates. So by the time the other two plates came out two of us were almost done eating. At this point we are a little irritated but what tops the cake is when we get to the bottom of one of the dipping sauces there happens to be three or four hairs at the bottom of the dish. No we are angry and ask for the manager which happens to be the waiter. She apologizes for the hair and says she will comp one of the meals. At this point I am super irritated and ask for refills on my water since it's been empty for almost 15 minutes and she says she will get it right away. I've been hearing lots of good things about this restaurant lately, and decided to go with a friend for lunch. First of all, the restaurant is very tastefully decorated and the staff were very polite. I ordered lemongrass chicken and my friend ordered bbq pork ribs. We also had egg rolls and the lotus salad for appetizers. The egg rolls were so good--hot and crunchy, with lots of flavor and the salad was amazing! it had pork and prawns in it. It was spicy but at the same time very crisp and refreshing. When my lemongrass chicken came to the table, I think I started to drool and I only hope my friend did not notice. it was very delicious and i ate the whole thing! you'd think that after egg rolls and a salad that I would not find the room in my gut to put more food in it, but I did. I gave Hanoi Kitchen 4 stars because it was my first time there, but me and my appetite are definitely going back! read more

Very slow service. It took 40 minutes to get food and there were only three other tables with customers. Oh, and the sign that reads, "No Msg", that is a lie. I am very allergic to the additive and almost ended up in the ER within minutes of eating there. Now that I will admit is my problem but at least tell the public when you have a sign out that reads, No MSG you don't mean it. The food tasted good and for those who can tolerate msg and waiting more than half an hour for appetizers and even longer for the main meal it's great but go there when you are not hungry. read more

It has not been a good weekend for me, a bunch of four star restaurant that missed the mark. Wanting to try a different Vietnamese restaurant from our normal, we went to check out Hanoi Kitchen. Walking in, there was only one large party in the restaurant, a Vietnamese family. Okay, Asian people are eating here and that's always a good sign. After being seated, more people came in....white couples. That's when we knew we made a mistake when the majority of diners at an Asian restaurant are Caucasians. There was only one lady hosting and serving, however, I'll give it to her that she was super friendly. My soon-to-be brother-in-law ordered the Bun Bo Hue, my sister got the Spring Rolls, my younger sister ordered the Banh Uot with Tofu, and I choose the Bun Rieu Oc. The spring rolls came out with barely anything but noodles inside and the rice wrapper was hard (meaning that it was pre-made). After my sister and her fiance had finished their meal, we started wondering when the rest of the food would come out. The lady realized that she'd never brought out our dishes and rushed back to get my sister's Banh Uot--fresh made daily? Must be made in the morning because you could tell when it gets microwaved because the texture and consistency changes. After she was done with her food, my soup was still nowhere to be seen. The lady noticed and goes back into the kitchen to check. I could tell that they never started my order and I was debating if I should just stop them from make it, but when she appeared with it in hand...it was a little too late. The broth lack flavor and was mediocre, starting to wonder why we go out for Vietnamese food when we could make better at home. read more

Been looking for 4 yrs for proper hu tieu (pho's under appreciated noodle soup), since I moved here from Cali. This place really does it right. The rice rolls are the bomb as well. We love this place.! We live on the other side of town, and we make sure everytime we are close by we go here. Food is top knotched, and really healthy. The family that runs it are the nicest people you will ever run into. From the first time we went, we felt like family. It is like Cheers everyone knows your name. Kim makes everything fresh so take time to just sit and visit ( no need to rush here, the meal will be worth it). Start out with the A1 traditional spring rolls. Man, they are refreshing and they will keep you coming back. Have one of their ice coffees while you wait, or try the tropical Fruit Julius. I have had many of their dishes, and I can honestly say, it is the best food I have ever tried. My husband loves the jasmine rice dish F6 ( I remember it because he orders it so often). The chicken wings are wonderful as well, so try them. If you don't know what to try just ask the people working there, that is what we did and we were not disappointed. We made a trip with our 85 year old parents,( my father in law is a meat and potatoe man), so getting him to try any of this was a gamble. He loved it so much he is going to bring friends down to give it a try, loved the atmosphere, the family and especially the food, and for him that says a lot. Take a group and go, you won't be dissapointed, and please remember everything is made fresh so give yourself time. If you can't call in an order. I debated on giving this place 4 stars or 5 stars, the reason I went with 5 is because the food is just that good! I all most gave the place 4 stars because service was a little slow. They seemed understaffed, the waitress was running back and forth and trying her best to get things out fast and get checks paid and doing everything by herself, so it's not that they wanted to be slow where service was concerned, I think they just needed more people. After waiting for a bit we got our food and the waitress gave us advice for how she likes to eat the dishes and what she thinks taste good in it if we wanted to add some more spice to it and simple things like that... I thought it was a very nice touch. The food was absolutely fantastic I ordered a spicy noodle soup, my girlfriend ordered vermacelli and her son they made a bowl of just noodles and broth special for him. I think anyone that is not in a rush should try this place it is so good and the family that runs it is super nice, it's absolutely worth the wait for the food! read more

The food is delicious and not the standard Vietnamese fare, lots of Northern Vietnam specialties. Went with friends and we all had different main courses all great and the chicken wing appetizer really delicious too. And the highlight is that there is no MSG in their food. When I moved to the great NW from San Jose, Calif, I was so worried that I would not find decent Vietnamese food, but my prayers were answered at Hanoi Kitchen. The food here knocked my socks off, every time. The lotus salad: even better than what I used to get in Calif, and the dressing was so yummy that I even broke my cardinal rule and ate raw onion. The bun rieu oc: has the combination of the richest broth, freshest authentic Vietnamese greens, and the crunch of the oc (Vietnamese escargot). Talk about the ultimate comfort food for a Vietnamese away from home. The bun Hanoi dac biet: the meat was the best marinated meat I have had (do not tell the great cooks in my family because I do not want to be disowned). I am not writing this review to be nice (even though the staff at Hanoi Kitchen are really nice). I am a self-serving woman who wants this place to be business for a long time, at least for as long as I can eat. read more

This place is really great. Went with a group of 12 for my birthday. Staff was considerate and charismatic, the daughters and granddaughters of the creators of the food, who were in the kitchen. I split the e1 and c5, with crab added, with a friend. Flavorful broth, great noodles. Tried e9, which was an amazing white fish packed with dill flavors. Overall, the food was simultaneously delicate and flavor packed, the portions were huge, and the experience pleasant. I can't believe my luck that this place is a few blocks from my house. I also can't believe the luck that there are not huge lines here. Ate last night at Hanoi Kitchen, a neighborhood eatery. Staff is wonderful! Food is not, unfortunately. Tried the Bun with everything (grilled pork, shrimp, egg rolls, and shrimp patties on sugar cane stick). Food wasn't very hot, though the pork was flavorful. Later came the Pho. which was steaming hot. Broth was pretty good, but the meatballs -- every single one of them -- had gristle in them, making for surreptitious spitting out while hoping my friend didn't notice. Some of the basil stems were thick woody twigs and bean sprouts weren't fresh. I will try once more because it's so close, but only once since my experience matched that of other reviewers so I expect it's the norm. Great food at a very fair price! Food was hot and fresh when we picked up our order and customer service was welcoming and friendly. The yellow curry was as good as I've had and the won ton soup was also delish (D6); the only improvement would be to have more than one shrimp in the soup and more pork.
