Then I went to another "hair loss specialist"salon also in San Mateo and was required to pay $100.00 for a consultation which was really about selling me extensions that are glued in and need redoing frequently at a hefty charge. This is after I clearly said I didn't want extensions. I was offered the option of buying a topper that would cost over $3k. There were no sample toppers in various styles to try on before sinking thousands of dollars site unseen and not returnable. The only samples there were to show color and all were long straight hair, no shorter styles, nothing curly. You'd basically need to special order it and fingers crossed, you like it because there are no returns. Why she couldn't have purchased some samples herself to have for potential customers to try before buy, I don't know..... I was also required to sign a legal contract before my consultation stating that I won't write a negative review, and allowing a photo release. And a bunch of other no-no's. All just to be ABLE to come in! None of this ridiculousness with Kelly though, just good products, displaying lots of sample styles and colors to try on and choose from. The color match was incredible--she perfectly matched my box-dyed dark brown (almost black) hair without having to color or toning. Jenny installed the extensions quickly, and the placement is flawless. They feel lightweight with no uncomfortable tension, and they're positioned in a way that lets me wear my hair however I want, including half-up styles and high ponytails, which was really important to me. Since the installation, I've curled, straightened, and washed my hair multiple times without any issues. There has been almost no shedding, and the extensions still look just as beautiful as they did on day one. I wanted to wait until I had styled and washed them several times before leaving a review so I could give an honest assessment of the quality. She later texted an apology and offered a $50 discount, so I decided to give her another chance and returned a few more times. Fast forward to today (04/11/2026), and I had another disappointing experience. I live in Tracy and woke up very early to make it to my 8:00 AM appointment on time. I respect people's time, and I expect the same in return. I even texted her at 6:58 AM to let her know I was on my way. Right at 8:00 AM, she called to tell me she wouldn't arrive until 8:45 AM. I was honestly in disbelief. I had driven all the way from Tracy, used my gas, and made the effort to be on time only for my time to be wasted. She offered a 10% discount, which didn't make up for the inconvenience. She also suggested she could call someone else to do my hair, but I would have to wait. I had booked specifically with her at 8:00 AM. If 8:45 AM was the real availability, that's what should have been offered. As a business owner, respecting clients' time is essential, and that hasn't been my experience here. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt after the first incident, but this confirmed the pattern. I regret not stopping after the first situation. While she was doing the coloring, lunch arrived for her. She told me she would eat her lunch and she would with me shortly. I expressed that we were already 15 minutes into my time and now she was going to eat?! So she agrees and has me sit in her chair while she eats. The extension area if the salon on the other side is super busy. Rhea starts off by asking me why I'm there. If you could see my hair, you would know while I was there. It is very thin at the top and this is a wig/extension/hair loss salon. I had come in for a consultation and I wanted advice. I thought I had come to a place that was professional. She said I should consider a topper not a wig. I didn't know what a topper was and ask to see one. She didn't have anything that was near to my color so she put a blonde streaked topper on my auburn brown hair. It looked ridiculous as the color was so off and the density of the hair was so thick compared to my crown. Another customer comes in with a hairpiece she needs styled or colored. Rhea stops my appointment to attend to her while I wait again. Rhea showed me a product that was a powder filler you put in your hair to fill in thinning spots. It was a good match for my color so I said I would buy it. The sample she used was the only one she had left, and she sold it to me as a full sized product even though it had been open and used. I was charged $30 for an opened sample. I later found this elsewhere for $25. I wasn't very satisfied with a sample hairpiece she showed me as it didn't match either in color or in its density. I left feeling very frustrated by the attitude and unprofessionalism of this salon owner, regarding the appointment time, delayed start due to he engagement when I arrived, eating during service, and taking another customer in the middle of my consultation. As I said in my review, it was quite a while ago but not forgotten as it was so memorable. Losing hair is traumatic no matter the cause and being treated without respect or compassion by a hair salon geared towards wigs, extensions, toppers, etc is inexcusable.
