I've been looking for an excuse to get their cupcakes for a while now because their posts look amazing and long and behold, that excuse revealed itself as Valentine's Day lol. So, I pre-ordered a bunch of their cute Valentine's Day cupcakes for friends and family. First off, the cupcakes were amazing looking and looked just as advertised. Unfortunately, in terms of taste, they were not what we expected, and all but the vanilla cupcakes were disappointing. One of the frostings just tasted like bland butter, and the cake parts were a bit on the dry-side. I'm wondering if the quality got compromised in order to fulfill orders - no idea, but I still want to believe they are normally way better. Additionally, one half-dozen order was supposed to come with 2 sugar cookies and they forgot to include that as well. Hapa Cupcakes is the best!!! I have been frequenting their shop for years, and they are consistently wonderful. There are two locations - one in Fullerton and one in Brea. The shop is always clean and super charming, but the stars of the show are the cupcakes and cookies. I love the alcohol-infused flavors. They're tasty and beautiful, and make wonderful gifts for family and friends. My husband especially loves the strawberry champagne cupcakes. The employees are always helpful and kind in showing me all the cupcake flavors-- they have such a big variety! It's nice to be able to support small businesses during this pandemic. read more

Ah, Hapa. It is always a delight to come by and see what surprise flavors they might have, and pick up some classic favorites. They always have a mix of regular, alcohol infused, gluten free, and low carb cupcakes and cookies. Sometimes they will have brownies, truffles, or hot cocoa bombs, but you need to pay attention to their social media for when those are around. Limited edition and the alcohol infused cupcakes here will sell fast almost any day of the week, so you never know what the selection will be when you stop by in the afternoon if you can't come by when they open. Sometimes they have cool deals or cupcake happy hours, but their rewards program in itself is already a great loyalty deal. The staff at this location are always very friendly, personable, and helpful regarding any questions you may have. The interior of this location is much larger than the Fullerton one, so it's a bit more comfortable. The parking can be sparse if it is a busy time or a weekend, but usually there are spots in their parking lot behind the building available. They have cute decor, and fun merchandise like tote bags and shirts to profess your love of carbs to the world with. Some of my favorite staple flavors are the chocolate covered strawberries and champagne, chocolate whiskey, and kahlua espresso. I've tried many limited flavors of theirs and I am always blown away with the flavors and textures and fun colors/designs. As someone who normally hates to eat icing on cupcakes (looking at you, store bought frosting), this place has turned my tastes on its head. I LOVE their icings, from the smooth whip of the espresso, to the heady and thick cream cheese, to the indulgent smooth chocolate. The cake is always perfectly moist. Been going to Hapa for more than 5 years. Ordered a customer cake on one of my first visits to the Fullerton location. Ordered by phone and sent a photo. Picked up the cake and it was cute but not what I asked for. Color was off but I let it go. (I know this is Brea location but I thought I'd mention this anyway) This is my second custom order and again I did it by phone. I first submitted an inquiry on their website and attached a photo of what I wanted. I spoke with one woman about my order and got all the information I needed to talk it over with my child/spouse. This place is not cheap. Their items, especially custom work is expensive. So being sure on whether or not they can create your customer order is a huge factor before you order. I then called back to confirm the order but was told the cake ordering people were gone...but maybe she could help me. She ended up helping and took my flavors down for the order. I asked her if she was sure that I shouldn't just wait to call the next day for the customer cake employees and she assured me that it was okay. I had her repeat the order and again she had my photo example and we went over colors/design. I went in to pick them up a week later and they were not what I ordered at all. They were their basic decorated flavors that they have available in their displays for walk in. Not custom at all. I had my child with me (who had been talking about these for the whole week and how excited they were for these custom cupcakes to match the birthday theme). As you could imagine I then had a very sad/devastated child. The woman working in the store at the time was new and wasn't sure what to do. She was being kind and trying to get a hold of someone for help. She called a few times with no answer. We had to step aside and let her help other customers. Someone finally called her back and told her there was nothing they could do because again they had only her working in the store (on a Saturday). They offered some complimentary items, which of course anyone would accept but it did not fix the issues. I have a Birthday party the next day with "custom" cupcakes that do not match the theme at all. I saw their copy of my order form as well and it had the photo I submitted on it...so I have no idea how things went wrong. Very disappointed and probably will not ever order anything custom from them again. They need to fix their ordering system to where the customer can pick from the colors they can do and see exactly what they can expect to get. It should not be that you show up and be surprised. I also want to add that the new employee was very kind and tried to help but was overwhelmed on her own as more and more customers came in. I think she was just trying to do her best but accidentally handled money with her gloved hand that she picks up the pastries with..so I had to ask her to change it. Lastly a customer with a dog came in and I'm not sure about their policy but it seems unsanitary. They have open displays and dog hair does not just stay on the floor. It can fly around and I don't think anyone wants that on their fresh baked goods. Overall they have nice walk in cupcakes, cookies, cakes and other items but other details need to be addressed. read more

We always go to Hapa for any birthday celebrations in our family. We were doing some last minute pickups, went in about 5 on a Saturday. There wasn't too many options left (because they're delicious) they had some plain cupcakes in the back and made some on the spot for us, I had mentioned it was my sisters birthday. Sooo sweet! I finally went here the other day and I really wish I went earlier in the day since all their cupcakes were sold out. I was looking forward to the alcohol-infused cupcakes but it's ok, I'll be coming back. My husband was shopping at Fisherman's Access next door so decided to check out Hapa. Lots of interesting and fun choices of cupcakes and cookies to choose from. Since I had never been here before I asked the gal which cupcakes were the most popular. She recommended two alcohol infused ones: Kahlua Mocha and Cinnamon Sugar Kahlua. I chose the Cinnamon Sugar one. I inquired if the alcohol would be strong. She explained it just changes the texture. The cupcake was extremely dry. If I had some frosting with the cupcake, it was ok. But, in the end I ran out of frosting and it was just too dry for me. I follow them on Instagram and saw their story about requesting cake inquiries. I happened to need a cake for an upcoming event so I sent them an inquiry. It's been weeks. I was initially quoted one price. When I went in store to confirm and decide on the details I was then quoted a higher price. Then while I was there I was told that since they recently have a new decorator they were unsure of the final pricing so just hang on tight for another quote. Well it's been another week and no calls. I went into the store again and asked about just a plain cake because at this time I really don't care about fancy fondant decorating. Just give me a plain cake. Nope. No offer of getting a quote or inquiry finalized for a plain cake like the ones they have on display. They really don't care and need your business here so if you want a custom cake... go elsewhere. Their cupcakes are good though. And their stuffed cookies are really good.
