This is a hidden gem in San Jose. They have the best vegan ice cream I have ever had. I got the waffle with two kinds of ice cream, whip cream and chocolate sauce. This place deserves more recognition! It has everything a vegan with cravings could dream of and more. They have simple healthy dishes as well as their own take on comfort foods. They offer appetizers, entrees, boba, desserts, and even ice cream. All of which are 100% vegan. I had the fruit waffle for about 6 dollars which came with strawberry, kiwi, chocolate drizzle, whip cream and maple syrup. Absolute heaven. There isn't too much seating but that makes for a casual and comfortable experience. The owners here are so sweet, and genuinely care about the customer that walk through the door. Best pistachio Vegan Ice Cream ever and Thai Tea is delicious place is small but still has place to sit and eat staff was super friendly

Service is great and food is decent. I do feel the portion is a bit small though or maybe I just eat a lot. I got the Happiness over Rice for myself ($12.25) and my s/o got the Beef Stew over Rice (11.95). The Happiness is better than the the Beef Stew in my opinion cuz of the pineapple chunks that make it a bit more flavorful. However, the texture of the plant based meat could be better. Also, we got the Avocado Rolls to share as an appetizer. It's $7.50 for 2 fairly large rolls. They're extremely greasy and too rich (béo) for me, but I'm sure some people may enjoy it. I also got the tuxedo cake slice ($5.50) and paired it with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. Delicious! Pricey for just one small slice but it was worth it! Yummy! Overall, I feel they have a wide selection of food and desserts that will satisfy most people. I haven't left a full five stars ever but this place takes it! My friend brought me here she's from the area. I recently became vegan and so her and I are passionate about vegan food and cannot trust other vegan places 100%. Everything in here is 100% so you can just order anything which is so great! The women in here is extremely friendly and seems to be owned by a good family - which is always good to support. Everything is so fresh and makes you feel so good. I got the Ocean melt and happiness smoothie which were both so delicious!! Must try - I can't wait to go back when I come to visit again! My family has been coming here for vegan faire, including full meals, ice cream, tea, Italian sodas, ice jelly drinks, and so much more sine like 2012 or before. The food is outstanding, clean, wholesome, proper, fantastic clean taste, feeling healthy after eating their food. I crave their meals at least once a week. Ever since I started intermittent fasting, after not eating for 24 hours, the only thing I want to eat is a bowl of their vegan stew. The broccoli and all other organic vegetables (tomatoes, red bell pepper, cilantro, are fantastically stewed to the perfect texture, the vegetable protein has great marinated flavor, and great texture, seasonings and toasted sesame seeds. Absolute, hands-down so very wholesomely satisfying. I hope all you vegetarians and vegans out there come and try the meals from here. A few that stand out are: Noodle soup, stew over rice, patty melt, phish ball soup, avocado rolls, happiness over rice, strawberry vegan ice cream, several of their Italian sodas, and so many other things. This is a true, Mom and Pop, diamond-in-the-rough. The owners are so nice and easy going, they make you feel welcome and provide fantastic service, going above-and-beyond, they even remember their customers names! The resultant is clean inside, the service is fantastic. The level of absolute satisfaction their stew over rice meal brings me can't be understated. This is home-cooked, wholesome food, simple, no frills, just satisfying plant-based nutrition. I used to go here all the time because I was always in the area. I got one of their drinks, which was the lychee with boba. The boba was cooked to be chewy and soft, and there were even bits of lychee in the drink, not lychee jelly. The tea was a bit too sweet for me, but then again, I like my things to be on the more sour or biter side. Since most milk tea places aren't Vegan-friendly I'm not sure if this is accurate or not as my boba experience is limited. Their boba pearls are the softest, slipperiest lil' suckers around. I really enjoyed our couple of boba drinks we got from here. The dessert waffle is an epic smorgasbord of decadent indulgence. Perfectly cooked Belgian waffle is topped with two choices of ice cream, fresh fruit, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and sprinkles. It's ok, I'll stop for a second so you can pick your jaw up... This is something you should not eat alone. Sharing is caring and my sweets loving sweetie 'n I devoured this baby in no time. I haven't had a bad thing here. There are a few things were the execution is a bit off such as their special drink that comes with sprinkles. It looks cool but the sprinkles get in the way of drinking it. Perhaps everything isn't exactly as creamy as any other dessert shop but for my money, knowing it's all Vegan earns it an extra star. Sometimes peace of mind tastes better than anything else in the world. I think I'm more enamored with the fact that Vegan folks aren't left out of all the tasty junk food that you can pretty much find anywhere if you're not. The vibe here is very Loving Hut, down to the white background with brightly colored accents throughout. Happiness Cafe 100% lives up to its name. When I walked in, it smelled like home. The atmosphere pulled me in, and the food here is wonderful and reasonably priced. It's rare to see places with all vegan food and those that aren't super expensive at that. My siblings and I enjoyed everything we ordered. After trying to the first two drink/ food, we knew the third item we ordered was going to taste just as good and we were right. Well, color me impressed. Came here on a whim for a light snack before picking up my husband from the airport. It was around 30 mins before they closed and no one was in line. A really nice guy took my order and I decided to try their Thai tea with pearls and their avocado rolls based on others reviews. All I can say is that I finished the drink long before I reached the airport (which is a 10 min drive down the street) and I kept saying "wowwww" to myself because the pearls were so soft!! And delicious! And the Thai Tea didnt taste "vegan", whatever that might mean. The avocado roll was bigger than I expected. About 3-4 bites each half for me. A good sized snack! I ordered to go and it was ready for me in 5 minutes, which I appreciated very much. It was tasty, I love that they use roti for the wrap, it makes it much more substantial. You don't even need much of the sauce. I would definitely come back again. Pearls so soft! That's what I keep thinking about lol. read more

She's always super chipper and really good at convincing you to order a lot l o l. I tried one of her suggestions and ordered the iced taro milk tea! It definitely was different that what I had expected. There was fresh taro chunks in it and it was the perfect sweetness. I found my new drink!! After a tasty dinner at Wuji's, my friends and I usually head over to Bambu for drinks. I haven't been getting anything from Bambu in our last few visits because, gosh darn it, I'm always in the mood for a grapefruit green tea at Verde, and the sweet, milky tea stuff just doesn't do it for me. Last Tuesday, though, I decided to peek into Happiness Cafe's menu, and they have a lychee green tea that seemed promising. "One lychee green tea, please. Do you have other additions besides boba?" "No, we just have the boba pearls." "Then no boba for me, please." (I'm fine with boba, but it's not my preference in my drinks; it's chewiness gets tiring to eat.) "Our boba's different, though. Most boba are micro-packed which makes it really chewy, but ours has a different texture and is very soft." "Yeah, okay, I'll give it a try." Tiny little vegan dessert place hidden amongst the huge asian plaza. If I didn't know better, I would say that Happiness Cafe was decorated by a little kid. There are small tables lined up throughout the place (not a very big cafe) accompanied by small chairs. Oh and there are stickers of cats plastered all over the place. Me and my friends decided to stop by in the afternoon to catch up over dessert and this was the place. We ended up sharing the house shaved ice and my friend chose to top it with cookies n cream ice cream. Surprise, surprise, we actually didn't even notice that this place was vegan until we tried the ice cream. It had an odd texture, but was good nonetheless. The shaved ice was super refreshing on such a hot day especially since it was topped with a bunch of fresh cut fruits. I don't really have anything negative to say about this place, other than wishing that there was more room to sit. Next time, I'll try one of the waffle desserts that everyone posts! read more

Very cute and old fashioned cafe in this azn plaza. This plaza has now been populated with many many many visitors because of new businesses like Gen KBBQ and Popbar opening in 2016.. So beware of a crazy war zone parking lot! Happiness Cafe is one of the OG cafes in this plaza. I'm more of a traditional boba/dessert hole-in-the-wall venue seeker rather than going to bigger chain places like ShareTea (which is also in the same plaza). The menu goes from hot/cold boba drinks to food dishes and desserts. I went in just wanting a tea so I got the Hibiscus Tea with Aiyu jelly. The employee who took my order was super cute and knowledgeable on the drinks, which was nice. She persuaded me to get the Aiyu jelly instead of just the regular pearls, and glad I made that change! Super refreshing tea to have after eating at Gen KBBQ (lol). If I'm ever in this plaza again, I'll probably be back to try more of their teas. They have a great variety! read more

This restaurant is a vegan's dream! It looks like an ice cream parlor, but don't be afraid to order a lunch or dinner meal. I had the "ocean melt", the vegan version of a tuna melt, complete with tuna salad, thousand island dressing, cheese and grilled bread. Don't ask me how they do it, and maybe I won't either. But damn, next time I get a craving for that particular comfort food... Another thing I sometimes crave is a hot ginger milk tea, and I got one here the other day. Yummy and soothing. We have also tried their vegan ice cream - perfect. And their cold milk teas, smoothies and Italian sodas. Oh, and to echo the other yelpers, the avocado rolls are indeed a delight. We were craving healthy. How does one crave healthy? A week-long binge of bacon burgers, chocolate pretzels, and Oreo shakes, that's what. So I suggested we go here, since everyone seems to love their appetizers. We tried: - the overpriced vegan hot dog wrapped in Pillsbury croissant dough - the old avocado wrapped in some deep fried dough Both tasted on point, but quality was amiss. We also tried their entrees, which were gigantic and will fill you up, but was super bland. Their desserts, however, are pretty on point. I also enjoyed their simple Jasmine Milk Tea with Pearls. Initially, I was planning on going to Hello Dessert but decided to give this place a try after reading the reviews. The owner working there is simply adorable! She recommended the H Waffle because it is "full of wow". It comes with two scoops of your choice of ice cream on top! I tried their pistachio and it tasted really weird but their raspberry and mint chocolate chip were ok. Wow, this food is amazing. AMAZING. It's so good, all I've been thinking about is the food and how bad I want to go back to San Jose to get some, haha. It's a small place, almost a hole-in-the-wall sort of place, but it's got a great selection of food, drinks, and - yes - even desserts. My vegan friends, if you have not tried out this place, you are sorely missing out. The atmosphere is great and it's pretty cute. I loved it so much! I highly recommend the passionfruit italian soda (tastes... exactly... like passionfruit, omg) and the pigs in a blanket (I forget what they're called on the menu, but they're absolutely tasty; pretty close to the actual thing). If I could give this place more stars I would. Happiness cafe is probably my favorite vegan restaurant in San Jose. The customer service is excellent. Every time I go in they remember my girlfriend and I. They ask us about how our day is going etc. Their food is so delicious!! Their avocado rolls are to die for!! I always recommend them to people. Came here for boba after dinner at Gen, a bit odd as it's right next door to Bambu. But, they take plastic! Was surprised to find they serve lots of vegan items, from dessert to entrees. I had a sample of the vegan ice cream and it's delicious! Perfect for me as I can't handle dairy products well. This is a great place for everyone to go. You'll feel like home the first moment you step into their store. The coolest part is that they are a vegan restaurant. They really serve some awesome drinks and food. My favorite food there is fry rice noodle (you can choose from regular or curry flavor).
