It's been a while since I've stopped in. Today I got the lunch combo of moo goo gai pan with hot and sour soup, and a side of boneless spareribs. Ufortunately when I got home I saw it came with yellow fried rice when I'm pretty sure I said white rice. I ate it just my preference would definitely be the plain rice. I really should've checked the reviews first and I did not. I was in the area and I was craving an eggroll. I'm gonna give them a star for the eggrolls this place is a literal dump. I went to the bathroom and It is disgusting. I won't go here again. The food shrimp fried rice egg foo yong was horrible! not all Chinese food is created equal. The service is quick and fast, the eggroll maybe had two shrimp, mostly cabbage. And I can tell everyone that I asked how is the food? How's the food? It's great. It's delicious. All the atmosphere of a Southeast Asia street food vendor without the quality of food. Ordered combination fried rice with 2 egg rolls and special chef 5 star meal with chicken and Chinese vegetables. It had an old chicken patty smushed across it. The other ingredients had spoiled weeks ago. The egg rolls by themselves were a solid 3 but the rest of it was sickening. If this is the best food I can get for 35 bucks then I will be saving a lot of money and cooking my own fresh food. It was discouraging to say the least. The fried rice was yellow and tasted like regular steamed rice. The restaurant is dirty and full of storage boxes. We left the food on the table and left the restaurant. Not at all what I had resigned myself to for a quick Saturday afternoon bite. I'm thinking some fried rice and an egg roll. I should be able have a few bites before I move on with my busy day. Once past the now defunct Covid protocols, I am surprised with a beautiful and stately dining room. Tempted to enjoy my meal there, I pay more attention to the menu. I let the vivid food photos guide me and choose Beef chop suey and shrimp egg rolls. The preparation time is at a mere 15 minutes. My food arrives early and extremely hot along with tasty, crispy and delicious. Pleasantly surprised that the egg rolls are the most perfect I've had in years! It was a pleasure to find a well prepared crispy wrapper stuffed with the perfect amount of cabbage and shrimp. It's not just cabbage and shrimp in there but a really good ratio of tender well cooked protein combined well made but easy to over use cabbage. The beef and vegetables were well cooked with a wonderful variety of expensive ingredients like water chestnuts and bean sprouts. You know the stuff that is easy to leave out when in pursuit of max profit not flavor. Tender slices of beef layered my beef chop suey. All of this was placed on a heaping serving of fried rice. Perfectly fine average Chinese takeout. The fried won tons, chicken sticks and won ton soup are the same as other take out Chinese places which isn't a criticism. Tasty and hot. We also order teriyaki chicken which was very teriyaki tasting and enjoyed by my son. The teriyaki chicken came with rice. The quality is just not the same. The crab rangoons used to be the best,. Now the filling tastes weird, and the outer crust part is way to thick, like they're trying to compensate for not as good or as much filling. The shrimp and scallops in garlic sauce barely had any scallops at all and now they are not sea scallops they are bay scallops. There was only a couple of shrimp in there. Very very disappointing. I'm all about supporting local businesses and such, but after spending just over $40 for meals my husband and I didn't even finish is just ridiculous. I ordered Beef Chow Mein; not a noodle in sight. Their Chow Mein is Chop Suey, so don't expect anything else. You get your meat, you get your veggies, and that's it. My husband ordered the Curry Chicken and we debated the entire time if it was actually chicken or not. It was pretty mushy and was almost like a dumpling. Someone moved my review to a different Happy Dragon. This Happy Dragon that I'm reviewing here is a very new one. Just opened a couple days ago, at 5868 E. 71st St., corner of Binford Blvd, at a strip mall called Binford Shoppes, next door to Kroger. It's on the West side of Binford, and on the North side of 71st. The web site indicates that the owners are the same as (or related to) the owners of the sister store at 11665 Fox Road, but this is another location, just new this week. This is a relatively new building, and it looks like this restaurant is the first occupant of this spot. Furniture, fixtures, floor tiles, ceiing tiles, etc, are all new. They offer the standard walk-up eat-in-or-take-out Chinese menu, and have the standard backlit pictures of standard dishes up on the wall. Really good bargains on lunch specials, all for $4.95, including shrimp dishes, until 3:00 pm. Lunch specials, even for eat-in, are served in a to-go container, a round aluminum pie-tin with the plastic top. Utensils are self-serve. Soda is in cans and bottles in a cooler up front. They also offer the usual items in Pint and Quart containers, plus Combination dinners for $7.25, plus "Chef's Specialties" for $8.95 to $12.95. I had the Moo Goo Gai Pan lunch, and I liked it. I've been here once a few years ago and I liked it. I'm here today Loving it. They have so many of my favorites as options. Today we're having chicken pad thai-extra sprouts, bourbon chicken, chicken fried rice, pork egg roll, crab rangoon, and sweet biscuits. Total $26. You get variety and textures for under $30. The best part was the cashier. I'm just happy and I'm getting excited reading the choices. Clarissa is thinking about what to order next time, BC there will be a next time. I ordered two combo plates of general tsos my 11 said mommy this tastes like it's been in the microwave too long. I laughed but much to my surprise it tasted like it had been in the microwave too long! The chicken was dry as a bone and there was barely any sauce on it. The rice was white and I thought that odd because normally at places like this you get fried rice but you know maybe hey are different but it was over cooked anyway. First of all, let me state there there are 2 different Happy Dragon restaurants in Indianapolis (emphasis on the word different). This location on 71st street does NOT deliver (so I believe at least one of the comments below is meant for the other restaurant). The Mongolian Beef is excellent. We get it EVERY TIME. Very good! What this place has in flavor, they lack in ambiance. As a matter of fact, I've never actually seen anyone eating in the establishment but my family. I hate take out. I prefer to dine-in (which one can do at Happy Dragon). When the situation where take-out becomes a necessity, Chinese is usually the perfect solution. It is usually great, and you get a terrific bang for your buck. When a take-out dinner at Happy Dragon was suggested, I was skeptical. I asked my friend, "Well, what's good there?" His reply was simple: "Mike, it's your very standard Chinese place. No frills. The food is great and exactly how you'd expect it. I doubt you'll be disappointed." I was already hungry, and I have nothing to lose. My friend was right. The food at Happy Dragon was neither special nor sub-par.; it was just right. Between four people (one of whom is a baby), we ordered three dishes and three egg rolls. The total was only $35. It was $35 well spent. The Kung Pao Chicken was definitely my favorite, followed by the Happy Family Special. The Broccoli Beef was mediocre. The egg rolls were on par with those found at any other generic Chinese restaurant. The white rice was, well, white rice. I found the fried rice to be rather bland, but again, it was perfectly acceptable. The service was carried out mostly by a teenage girl, who was as helpful as a teenager could be. I normally don't write reviews but I downloaded the Yelp app to save someone else. I used to go here all the time before Covid and it was great. We wanted Chinese tonight and opted for happy dragon over P.F Chang's. We got general tso's chicken with lo mein, sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and crab rangoon. This totaled out to be $45. It's no longer a cheap and yummy restaurant. The sweet and sour chicken was so over cooked that I could barely bite through the batter and to be honest, the chicken was hard and crunchy, making me believe it was a few days old that they passed off under fry batter. The fried rice...not worth the up-charge as it is just yellow rice. No onion, no veggies, nothing, just a yellow tinge color to it. The lo mein was rubbery and super slick with sauce. The only thing we really ate was the crab rangoon and that was subpar. If you are able to spend $45, go to P.F. Chang's instead of taking $45 and throwing it away like we did. read more

Friendly staff and fast service happens every time. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is there is no online ordering and Even though this is a Total Take Out location it is not kept up well website wise. I love this place, the quality is always great. I have been eating here for more than 5 years. I recommend every to this place in the area, they are closed on Mondays, which is a bummer cause I could seriously eat here every day! They are always fast service and nice, just call ahead and your order most of the time takes only 15 mins and once you get there it's freshly made and hot and ready for you to take home. This was probably the worst tasting Chinese food we've ever ordered, and the customer service was non-existent. We ordered the chicken pad Thai and found shrimp inside (my boyfriend has an allergy to shellfish and I ended up having to give him Benadryl). Aside from the shrimp that we did not order, the pad Thai had ZERO flavor- no spice. We also ordered the chicken fried rice and again, zero flavor and no vegetables (doesn't it usually come with some peas, carrots, etc?). The chicken was questionable. I would HIGHLY not recommend this restaurant. It was a waste of $26. Had we not ordered carry out and just eaten inside the restaurant, I would have asked for a refund. read more
