This restaurant is so good and affordable. We went on the weekend during dinner time and even though it was busy it was not overcrowded. The waitress still gave us plenty of attention and met all of our needs. The food is good and simple. You come here and know exactly what you are getting. We got a couple of plates for variety. We also ordered the mango roll, which was on special that night. Everything was delicious and this is maybe my third or so time here. Food: 4/5 I was happily surprised by diverse amount of fish that they offer! Though I ended up getting a pretty basic assortment of sushi. But, it was quite good and fresh. Solid 3.5 stars. Good relaxing ambience. The sushi is good enough. It's not outstanding but due to limited options in the area, it definitely satisfies my craving. They are very basic, and not fancy really- at all. The spicy mayo is really spicy but I really like that. I usually get the eel avocado (they always ask if I want sesame seeds on it, lol. Usually the seeds are on the rice but they sprinkle them on top) and I sometimes get the Alaskan roll (the salmon is cooked). I usually love raw sushi rolls but for some reason I feel better getting cooked here. Personal preference. Hubby likes the Explosion roll. The salmon and eel sushi were the only saving pieces. The tuna/salmon maki were okay pretty normal. The futomaki was flavorless and for some reason they count 2 pieces of inari (tofu skin) and 2 pieces of flying fish roe as 2 rolls!? No, those are sushi pieces. There were a few tables there when we sat down but the server was extremely helpful and answered all of our questions about the menu. To start, we ordered a salmon tempura roll and added avocado to it for 50 cents. It didn't come with any sauce on top, so we got a side of eel sauce with it. We also got some spicy chicken wings (5) with the sauce on the sides. They were both delicious and had great flavor. The wings were tender and juicy. For the entree, I had the salmon teriyaki platter and my fiancee ordered the double choice - steak teriyaki and gyoza. Both meals came with miso soup (lunch special), salad, and white rice. Consistently very very good over the years! Vegan options and Vegan friendly. Staff is very kind and accommodating. Restaurant is clean and bright. Seating is comfortable. I would say this restaurant is Handicap friendly (except there is a small step up area in bathroom that if you are told about it ahead - is also handicap friendly). I order hand rolls, Eel Hand rolls is my favorite, big pieces of eel and lot of sauce on it, which I loved. Salmon hand roll and Rolls are normal, cooked salmon is dry and salty. My long time favorite sushi place in Jackson heights and in general. They always fast fresh, well prepped and just so good. The size of eat bite is bigger than usual sushi places and it just has a satisfying mouth feel. My favorite is the happy role senior with crunch flakes, but they have so many good options. And the spicy Mayo is really good here- can't have an order without it. Its even become a fun tradition for the past 5 or so years to come here with two of my best friends every eid to have the shared platter. While the delivery took nearly an hour to arrive, after they estimated 30-35 minutes, we were missing the soup we had ordered and they were kind enough to send it our way soon after. I must say, it was the most massive tub of miso soup I've witnessed, haha. The quality of their ingredients are definitely great. The spicy chopped tuna or salmon roll is one of the better ones i have had al in a long time. Udon noodles are served in a tasty broth. Chicken yakitori is also one of our main recommendations. The food is priced reasonably and supersedes standardbred. Whether we it in or call for a delivery, the food always arrives at the right temperatures. I feel like this place is so underrated. The restaurant is a couple decades old. It used to be a small place with only 3 tables and a bar but they expanded a few years ago. Everything is super nice here from the food to the staff and the owner himself. So after many moons I have decided to update my review and add a star. I have decided to add a star because of the consistency of the quality of food served here. I can honestly say that out of all the orders I have made here over the 15+ years I have been a patron, I have never had to send anything back. The owner, who I never see anymore must know that he has his staff trained professionally to take control and keep the business from going under. I still get my Happy Meal (eel) and enjoy it fully each time, no questions asked. The prices also have not gone incredibly high in the years they have been open which is also a good surprise.. and after almost 20 years of being open, they finally expanded to the store next door and now offer a lot more seating which is amazing. I have issues with sushi, I love it but only if it's fresh and prepared properly (call me a sushi snob lol). This place is freakin AWESOME! You can taste the freshness that's how good it is. The menu is a decent size and so is the restaurant. I think they bought the store next to them and expanded a little bit. The servers are very respectful and knowledgable about the items on the menu. Only negative, it's cash only which sucks bc I would order more food but I normally only have a $20 on me when I go. I'm sure sushi adds up when you have a large group. Pretty shocked that good Sushi exists in Jackson Heights which is predominately dominated by Latin and Indian Cuisine. I order take out from here every once in awhile when I choose to splurge. The actual restaurant is a bit small but really quaint and at some point I would like to actually have dinner here. The chef/owner is extremely nice and has a "customer first" attitude. The fish is always fresh and there were several occasions where I came by to pick up sushi for lunch and he was receiving his seafood delivery. He was so meticulous and I heard him fussing and returning seafood that was below his standards which I have to applaud him for. On to the sushi/sashimi/sushi rolls etc. I have a staple few so this time I decided to also take pictures and post this review. We got the Red Dragon Roll, Spicy Tuna & Cucumber, Sunshine Roll, Rock 'n Roll Special Roll, tuna sushi, white tuna sushi, salmon sushi, seaweed salad and miso soup. All the rolls were splendid and very yummy. The sushi was amazingly fresh and they do not cut little chincey pieces like they do in Manhattan. The seaweed salad was really good. Lastly, I really like their miso soup because the broth is really flavorful but not overly salty as is the case at most Sushi/Japanese spots. I highly recommend this place if you live in the area. The only sushi in Jackson Heights. They are very small inside but clean and cute copper tables. Their fish is fresh. I've never had it not be. I like their salmon teriyaki platter with brown rice. I eat their cooked food as often as their sushi. I like this place although I tend to have it delivered more than I go sit inside. read more

We have tried Happy Kitchen three times in the past year for take-out and once for eat-in. The sushi is bad. We haven't gotten sick from eating it but it is lacking in flavor and the texture is way off. It appears to be presliced, frozen and thawed. The eel is mushy and tough at the same time, if that is even possible. The rice seems more like Chinese restaurant style rather than moist and flavorful like a sushi place should sell. The rolls are better than the sushi and sashimi but we've honestly given up on Happy Kitchen even though it's very close to our house. Re hot food, I tried the salmon teriyake and it was passable. The dining room is attractive and the service is fine. NYC health inspections are usually an A. I just wish the food was good. read more
