Solid sushi at affordable prices. I mostly get takeout from here but stopped for lunch since I was in the area. Ambiance in here is very casual and small, there were a couple of tables in here for lunch but for the most part to go orders were being picked up and sent out. My waitress was friendly and available. I ordered a miso soup, green tea, a salmon avocado roll and yellowtail scallion roll. All were tasty, especially the sushi which was extremely fresh and melted in my mouth. Total for all this came to $17 and change before tip, which I think is pretty good all things considered. If you're in need of a new to-go sushi spot (or casual dine in sushi spot), I'd definitely recommend giving Bai sushi a try. All of the delivery orders I've placed here have been correct and come within a reasonable amount of time, too. read more

One of the most reliable spots in the neighborhood for quick, reasonably priced and yummy sushi. I went on a Thursday night and had no problem getting a table. Service was polite and quick, and the space was small but cozy: definitely a "neighborhood joint" vibe, not an "elevated eatery" vibe. I got the Chef's Special, which was really good. The nigiri was kind of long and delicate, but the fish was fresh, tasted clean and was not slippery or slimy (the way the fish at some other Japanese restaurants in Astoria are). This is the one-button rice cooker of sushi restaurants: it won't make you weep in blissful exultation, but it's good, it's convenient, and it's there for you no matter what. read more

It was reasonably priced at $15.50. It also comes with a soup or salad. Place is small and looks like a mom and pop shop. Cozy vibes and good service. Sushi was not bad and tasted pretty fresh but nothing too special. Nothing that blew taste buds. Portion feels kinda small, I was still feeling pretty hungry after. My go to sushi restaurant in Astoria. It's a small business, one block away from my home and I always order take out from here I highly recommend you try their Buffalo roll- spicy tuna, papaya, mango and masago roll for only $8 that's a steal. I love spicy tuna and fruits and they go really well together. Eel sashimi is a must. Salmon teriyaki box delicious with sauce on the side Fried green tea ice cream so good. I order to go and they make it when I get there so it doesn't melt 2nd favorite- Nabe udon SO SO good. The broth and the vegetable and tempura it comes with, warms your soul. Solid sushi place that's not too far from my apartment. Nothing fancy or anything that knocked my socks off, but we were satisfied. They get bonus points from me for having a veggie roll on their menu that includes tofu in it (I appreciate being able to get a little protein in a vegetarian roll). Boyfriend was satisfied with his tuna avocado and salmon cucumber rolls (the latter of which was not on the menu but they happily made upon request). Our server was very nice while taking our orders, and refilled our glasses of water many times. We were there on a slightly earlier side for a Saturday evening, so it wasn't too crowded. We've ordered takeout from Bai Sushi twice now. Unfortunately, it's hard not to automatically compare similar items to other places that we've ordered from. We recently became fans of rolls with scallop in them so we figured we'd try that out here as well. We ordered the following: the spicy scallop roll, spicy tuna roll, salmon avocado roll and the sashimi deluxe with salad. I'll start by saying by bf enjoyed the sashimi and felt it was pretty solid. There was good variety for sure (I think they advertise it as 21 pieces) though I noticed they counted pieces of imitation crab, and tamago (egg) as part of this as well. For the rolls, my opinion was that it tasted average. Nothing tasted off (so this wasn't about freshness). The salmon avocado roll was pretty normal, somehow the spicy tuna roll didn't quite measure up to spicy tuna I've had from other spots (might just be my preference) and the spicy scallop roll was not as good as the scallop roll we'd had from the other place that we loved. So I admit, my main issue is with the rolls and how they don't measure up to other spots I've ordered from. That said, it sounds like the sashimi was good so I can't speak to other menu items. read more

This place is what I consider lunch time sushi - where you get standard rolls for a good price. Their rolls definitely come in at $$ where a lot of other places in Astoria are $$/$$$ especially at dinner time. Conveniently located on Broadway, this was the first sushi place I tried in my neighborhood when I first moved here 9 years ago. And I pretty much keep coming back. Their quality is consistently good & price range is excellent (especially their lunch specials) compared to the other options nearby (sushi from the Greenmarket grocer's? Thai restaurants? Sunrise take-out Chinese?- although great Chinese take-out- not where I want sushi). I only resorted to these places on Sundays, when I don't want to cook but forgot that Bai is closed:( I usually get the tuna rolls, California, salmon, eel, or Big Bai Special Rolls, like the Dragon or Rainbow Roll. One of these can easily fill you up. There seems to have been an arty change in presentation of the food that I appreciate. & the rolls are always generously portioned, you don't feel ripped off for a sliver of cucumber in your roll or something. The staff is Super Nice! The space is tiny but clean & bright, no frills. There's pretty lanterns that hang & a giant thank you card from a local school with messages from the kids thanking the chef for showing them how to make sushi. The waitstaff is Korean..not sure if the owners are too- but you know, Korean cuisine has sushi actually & lots of fish- so I'm cool with that. Ordered delivery via Uber Eats, and was left disappointed especially after seeing this restaurant had 4 stars on Yelp (at the time of this review, at least). The rice across all of the sushi that we ordered did not taste or have the right texture of sushi rice; it was hard and wasn't well-seasoned. The grain also appeared longer than typical sushi rice. We had ordered a spicy tuna roll, and the fish itself seemed like it was blended to a paste with the spicy mayo, leaving the texture incredibly mushy. The same could be said about the yellowtail scallion roll. I've never experienced yellowtail being cut into a very small dice, which ruined the texture of the fish, which was upsetting because it did taste fresh. The two stars come solely from the few pieces of nigiri sushi we also ordered (yellowtail, red clam, spicy scallops). Had high hopes for this spot, but was left unsatisfied. read more

Ordered the Bai Special 2 which was like 21 pieces of sushi, and several rolls. Man, the quality was great. Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp were so fresh I could hear them still swimming in the ocean. Haven't ordered here in a long time because the last time we ate there it was horrible. Just placed an order via Uber eats. Promo was running spend $30 save $15. Now I realized why they do these promos. All the good restaurants never do. Ordered 3 rolls and 2 cans of soda. Received an alert that there has been a $5 charge for unknown reasons. So basically I added cream cheese to my disgusting, small and soggy shrimp tempura roll. $1 extra. Supposedly for doing that they somehow justify a $5 price increase? Are they ok? So now my Uber service fee and taxes went up as well. Best part is that when the sushi arrived they didn't even add the cream cheese! Unbelievable that this place is still open.
