They have one of the best Hong Kong style egg waffles that I've had in So Cal - as far as I'm concerned, the best ones outside of Asia can only be found in Vancouver or Toronto - but in OC, these are as good as you can find. They have that distinct eggy taste and are not overly sweet. The shell is crispy and crunchy while the inside is airy and soft. To pair up your delicious bubble waffle with a drink, the classic milk teas are always good. Their freshly squeezed lemon ice tea is one of the best and has a rather intense lemony flavor. After a less than desirable experience at Bengong Tea, I popped in right before closing and there was one person working. I said "Hello" and ordered the green tea with cheese foam ($6.50). I paid and he got straight to work on my order. I forgot to mention that I wanted less sugar and less ice but oh well. My husband asked for the code to the restroom and went to wash his hands. My order was ready straightaway and I made the mistake of shaking without checking that the lid had an open hole. Oops. I quickly wiped the counter and grabbed a straw to stir my drink. I've been a customer on and off for a while and have never really had a problem here, but recently the taste and quality of the drinks is abysmal. The seasonal strawberry oolong milk tea was really weird, but I was thinking it was just bad because it wasn't my taste. I got a very normal jasmine milk tea with boba today and... The drinks themselves were less than what we had hoped for. The passionfruit mango green tea had a mild mango flavor but was ultimately kind of bland. The boba also seemed overcooked based on the texture. The strawberry green tea had a generous amount of strawberry in it, but the rest of the tea flavor was hard to distinguish. The drinks were not worth their $7 (each) price based on the quality of the teas. It was the grand opening weekend, so there was a line (about 10 people when I arrived, closer to 20 by the time I left) but it moved pretty quickly considering there was only one cashier. Even with the crowd, the line moved quickly and we got my drinks in around 7 minutes after ordering, which was impressive. We tried the mango green tea and the taro ube milk tea. They were delicious! Exactly what we expect from Happy Lemon - flavorful and refreshing. At $6.50+, they're a bit on the expensive side, though that seems to be the standard price these days. The BOGO deal for opening weekend brought them down to a much more reasonable $3, which is what boba should cost in my opinion. The staff were friendly considering how hectic it was. The place is small, and with the grand opening rush, things were definitely a bit crazy. They weren't able to customize sweetness levels for drinks during the rush, but luckily mine wasn't overly sweet anyway. Overall, Happy Lemon Tustin is a great addition to the area! read more
