I've been looking for it...and i've found it! The best Chinese takeout spot in Bloomfield. Nice service, great food. I ordered the General Tso's Tofu and the Vegi Lo mein. I felt the lo mein was your typical good Chinese takeout. I had no complaints in that department and would totally have it again. What did push over my expectations was the General Tso's Tofu. Not many places offer this as an option (maybe 3 in Bloomfield?) When they do it usually tastes like the tofu was made a couple of days ago, and then thrown into the fryer when the one vegetarian came around. This place was another level for that. Tofu was of great size, deliciously greasy (What?! It's Chinese take-out!) and was in a delicious sauce. This is my new go-to takeout place in Bloomfield. read more

Really enjoy a few dishes here, the staff is great, delivery people too. Husband and wife team keep the operation running smoothly and Wendy at the counter is a delight to talk to. Last night, my significant other and I ordered out from Happy Ming Chinese Restaurant. We were told our food would be delivered in fifty to sixty minutes. Well after ninety minutes, my significant other called to see what the hold up was. He was told the driver was just around the corner. Five minutes later, our order finally arrived! When my husband asked the delivery man why our order was more than half an hour late, he gave my sweetheart a difficult time as though he were the injured party. This is no way to treat customers. Without us, businesses would not exist! If you tell a customer sixty minutes that's when you should get your food. If it's going to be late, call to let them know. This is the first and last time we will be dealing with Happy Ming. We weren't happy. Such a shame. The prices and food are good. read more

I will give them another try, A-OK here, nothing exceptional. They did overcharge me $1 which seems deliberate, they probably do this all the time as customers never look at the bill. Placed an order through Uber Eats and did not get what we ordered and paid for. Uber would not give a credit. Their online customer service chat application rejected my request and within seconds sent another response that said 'we don't see you responding so we're ending this chat', even though it was less than 5 seconds from the previous response. But it was Happy Ming who screwed up the order in the first place. At least the restaurant delivered part of the missing items about an hour later. What a lousy experience. Never going back to this place or using Uber Eats again. read more

Was originally going to give them 3-stars, but deducted based on another person's experience with their online ordering system. We encountered the same issue last month ordering from Ming Ming - took all our information online only to find out they never received our order when we went to pick it up. They didn't apologize or offer to make it right. The news was delivered more as a "FYI - we didn't get your order." Normally I'd just chalk it up to a random bleep in the radar but if another Yelper noted the exact same problem in March and a restaurant still fails to fix the problem, then that either means they're incompetent or they don't care... or a mixture of both. If they don't intend to fix online ordering, then they shouldn't offer it. The food itself was average but the lack of service and apology now has me looking elsewhere for another take out place. read more

They make a really good hot and sour soup. While other Chinese restaurants often skimp the ingredients, this place does an authentic job of putting all of the veggies in the soup. And they make sure it is right every time. I have noticed that they do take a long time to cook but I liken that to doing a good job. I always get prompt service too. Never an issue with being treated poorly. My only grip is the lack of heat in the place when it is cold. read more

Full disclosure - I've never been to the actual restaurant, but ordered from there numerous times. Food is always clean and tasty, nothing terrible unless you're ordering really greasy food. Bottom line - I'm exactly 1 mile away according to google maps and I'm writing this review exactly an hour and forty-five minutes since order was placed, still haven't received anything. Contacted restaurant, they said 10 minutes about 45 minutes ago. This is the 3rd time out of 4 orders that I waited 1.5-2 hours to receive my food. I wish their delivery time was better because this would be a really great spot, but two hours for a delivery at an address 1 mile away? That is legitimately horrible. read more

After moving to Bloomfield a few years ago, we found Happy Ming after trying a number of different Chinese restaurants. First off, lately their delivery has been really quick. They're at our door within 15-20 minutes of placing our order. Their menu has a reasonable and standard selection comparable to your average Chinese restaurant (try the pizza roll though- you'll be surprised!) The thing that sets them apart from the crowd, however, is their selection of tacos, nachos, quesadillas and other Mexican items. I've always ordered the steak tacos, and they're packed with meat, with a smattering of lettuce, tomato, and cheese, and served with a small side of salsa and sour cream. I've yet to be disappointed. They're also very accommodating with modifying menu items- I like my nachos without a lot of the extra stuff, and they're always delivered perfectly as ordered. Their Chinese food is pretty good- not overly greasy as I've found some places to be (nothing like having your lo mein swimming in grease. Not at this place!). I have an unhealthy obsession with their crab rangoon. The owners are very friendly- we've gone in to place orders a number of times- and will recognize repeat customers with a friendly smile and "How are you?". As some others have mentioned, there's a lot of delivery Chinese in Bloomfield, and a lot of it isn't great. I switched to Happy Ming Ming a couple years back, and I've stuck with them since. Their food always tastes fresh, they have a good selection, and their delivery is fast. I'm particularly fond of their fried rice. All fried rices are not created equal, and theirs stands above the other local places. I'm frequently as excited to eat their rice as I am to eat the main dish. I read several reviews about their online ordering system messing up. I've always just called to order, and it's worked out fine. Sometimes a language barrier makes calling a Chinese place is difficult, so I can appreciate why people might want to use online checkout. But Happy Ming Ming always has people that communicate well and that understand the orders/address correctly. read more

Very disappointed. My husband and I placed an order through their online system at 6:25 this evening. After an hour with no delivery, we called up the restaurant. We were told our order would be here in 15 minutes. At 8pm, we called again, and we're told the reason our order was delayed was because their internet was out. We get it, things happen, but when we called after an hour, you were alerted to our order. There was no reason for it to take an additional hour. It's now 8:20pm and the delivery just arrived. We were just about to call and cancel. If you are going to offer online ordering, make sure your system is working. **Fraudulent activity*** First and foremost, I'd like to state my family have been going to this restaurant for years- I recently relocated back and decided why not get lunch here. I placed an order online with them and right after placing the order, I received a call to verify my order.... which I thought was cool. The time of order placement was at 3:25 which I was told will arrive within 45 minutes... at now 5:30, I'm not even in the mood for Chinese anymore. I called and asked if my order was coming and the rep says, "yeah, yeah.. it's coming " and hangs up. The delivery man arrive at now 6:10. I gave him a cash tip (which at this point I felt reluctant to even give) after such SLOW service and not to forget to mention his poor mannerism. My receipt reads 18$ even! But today now 3 days after the order my account was charged 25$ with happy mings logo in cost of nearly 6$ more than my original order cost. I'm just never ordering from here again! I tried this restaurant based on another review that I read. Bloomfield has a problem in my opinion that it has a lot of Chinese food places and most of their stuff is pretty lousy. Montclair (the neighboring town) has great Chinese food places but they don't want to deliver to Bloomfield. Happy Ming is the solution to this problem. I have ordered from here several times and delivery is always fast and the food is always good or great never bad. I have had several problems with other Chinese places in the past so Happy Ming is really my go to place from now on. Whoever runs this place must actually be a chef because the menu is very diverse. Try the Pizza Rolls they are GREAT! I encourage you to give them a try even if you feel like you have a favorite Chinese food place I think you'll be surprised. read more

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it! This song started playing in the background as I walked into this Chinese take out place. And boy oh boy did the music fit the bill! This place is now my fav Chinese food go to! It's awesome. Even better than many of the other take out places I have previously reviewed. To start off this restaurant is a proper, proper joint. It's gigantic compared to many Chinese places. There are tables to sit and enjoy dinner and its actually clean! In fact the whole restaurant is clean. Even the chef cooking in the kitchen in plain view is clean. Love it! Now the food. I ordered some sesame sauce chicken, chicken with broccoli, and some egg rolls. Each dish was appetizing, not salty, and overall not heavily loaded with grease to make you run to the bathroom at the end of the meal. This place is no longer "China Express". I've been ordering from here for two years and it's always been "Happy Ming". This place has been very reasonable in price. Recently they added a Mexican menu, Quesadillas and such. Weird, but not so weird these days where everyone is diversifying. I've never ordered from that menu. HOWEVER, just last night I decided to no longer order from here because 1. The taste just isn't "wowing" me, and 2. I'm really tired of them taking those rectangle entree containers and filling it with rice on the bottom first-- then placing your meat on one side and another huge mound of rice on the other side. Just a plain hole-in-the-wall place with excellent food!! My favorites are Chicken/Broccoli with garlic sauce & their General Tso Chicken. There are several places to get Chinese food in town, but this by far it quite good. Not many tables here, so most of their business is take-out or delivery.
