The color selection isn't great here. They have a wall of colors, they don't have matching colors a lot of the time to their gel colors compared to other salons, and the staff argues with you about what processes to get or what you want. If I'm spending good money, you don't tell me what I'm getting or what I want. Get DND and matching colors. Have the girls wear name tags too. read more

I've been going to Happy Nails in Newport Coast for over five years. You can walk in and get a good technician depending on what you want done. I have found that Gnoc and Nini, are the best for me for light gel nails, and a great pedicure. I always get a 20 minute massage and feel so relaxed when I walk out the door. The managers are on top of everything and pleasant to deal with. Tip well and they find a way to get you the team you want, if you come on days when both ate working. I hate writing this not so good review but feel necessary. I've went here for many yrs when I lived close by. Moved away but came for a visit and needed a gel mani and a pedi. Same girls working as 15 yrs ago ( we're all just a little older :) ) so I was confident I'd get a good service. It was not good. They couldn't ( or were reluctant to ) help me match ( or close to ) the polish I brought in. I had bare nails so not doing a fill gel but a full gel. It was just unhelpful unlike other places I frequent now. The gal who did the mani was pretty rough with the utensils used to clean under the fingernail. It hurt! Next, when gel was done, I noticed a stripe going down my ring finger nail. She tried to dismiss it saying it's just my nail. I said I've never had that happen before. It was totally noticeable. Again, some back and forth and finally she agreed to fix that one nail and file the nail a bit with the machine which they do anyway at other places I go to. That fixed the problem but it should've been done on every nail at the beginning( or at least an option). Next was the pedi and the polish wasn't great. I had to go somewhere close to where I live and have it redone. The best part was the shoulder massage. I'd give that a 10! I do hate writing this but I told my husband I will never go back there. However that same Friday my pinky nail broke off with no excessive force, the following week three of my other nails broke off. I am beyond disappointed in the nail technician and Manager working that day. She was literally on her phone the whole time; the gel choices are limited, and she put the wrong color gel on my toes. She timed my massage but was one handing my leg/legs at each procedure from callus removal, paraffin, mask to the scrub. She rubbed the top of my foot and front of leg and NEVER once touched the back on my leg under my foot or anything else but shin and top of foot the whole time during the mask, scrub and massage. Also, she cut me during cuticle trim and within an hour my big toe swelled up with infection. I didn't see her remove the tools from a sanitary bag. She clearly was waiting for her next appointment; once that other appointment walked in, she was done with me. She put the same tools used on me in her carry box and moved on to the next customer FRIGHTENING!!!!!!! I am sensitive to tipping in the industry but if they don't care about me or what I'm paying for or even ask how it was no concern at all and then proceed to talk about you in front of you about your tip, she didn't deserve that or my business. I now have a extremely infected toenail from her cutting and tearing my cuticles incorrectly. Now I must see a doctor, I can't walk well or wear the shoes I had planned for the weekend, such a disappointment with the holiday approaching I'll be unable to enjoy some activities. Once I got up to pay, she ran literally ran to the front desk and insisted I pay in cash which I laughed and said NO! I paid with a credit card as the Manager was right there. I voiced my disappointment and she just smiled as my nail Teck was yelling in a language, I couldn't understand something clearly about my tip and all the techs looked up at me and began to talk. I consider myself an over-tipper but in this case this woman should find a new job! I do not recommend this place at all. I did call the next day and spoke to someone who identified herself as the manager and requested my money back. She did credit my card but only after accidentally charging me again. My total was $67.00 for toes $23.00 for gel, and I begrudgingly tipped $5.00. I did feel that was too much! $95.00 for a pedicure is outrageous especially when I was finished 25 minutes before my friends who all started their pedicures at the same time! CRAZY!!!!! One star is about right since I did get a refund but have to see a doctor! I hope I don't wind up with something like fungus as well! Only time will tell. read more

I have been going to this Newport Coast location for several years, my last experience a few weeks ago was terrible. Since Covid I constantly see new manicurists. The gal I got last seemed fine, but 3 weeks later I discovered I had 2 totally black nail beds, one on each foot. I immediately went to my Dr. who told me one was fungus and the other was a burst blood vessel. The fungus is definitely a result of unclean tools. I can't imagine how a burst blood vessel happened. I have not dropped or damaged anything on that toe (or any toe/foot) to cause this. My wait to get helped that day was over 45 minutes, my bad for waiting, but I did need a pedi. I will not go back to the Newport Coast or any Happy Nail location. read more

Ivy was my technician- she was friendly and worked hard on my nails. She suggested the hot wax, and we went for it. It was awesome- such a weird/good feeling that left my feet smooth and soft.
