If I could I would give them 10 stars! The bathroom sink, toilet and shower were backing up...it was a mess! We tried and tried fixing the problem on our own but no go. We called Happy Sam's in the morning and even though he said he was currently at another job, he assured us he'd head right over to us as soon as he could. He kept his word, he showed up soon after and got to work! This man is a pro and knows his stuff, right away he knew what the issue was (our main sewage line) was backed up. He went up on the roof and got to work cleaning out the vent, it was bad . He then got to work on the bathroom sink...he wrestled with it for so long and refused to give up until he cleared it. Man did he fight with it, sweat and all but he did it!! He told us he wanted to help us avoid having to tear down walls and paying more money to get to the pipes. this man is a blessing!! It has been 3 days since he came out and everything is flowing great, no more issues!! This company is affordable and reliable and they get the job done!! Background: We had a relatively big problem with a sump pump. Called 3+ different companies for quotes. Pros: -cheaper than others (significantly). This is because he recommended just the necessary repairs rather than trying to upsell -related to the point above, they seem to be honest Cons: -the project took a long time from start to finish. I am the landlord so didn't know for sure when they are working. However there was a period where they were meant to be working, but apparantly were on another job instead. I called to check the status a week later and was told they were working on a big project for the city. Thank you Sam on the greatest help on Christmas day. Our pipe in the wall was broken, water everywhere. Sam sent serval groups of people helped us fixed the pipe, removed the dry (wet already) wall. I've had the fortune/misfortune of working with Happy Sam's twice in the past few weeks, and I've been very pleased with both outcomes. First, he and his crew fixed an old shower diverter knob. A different plumber said they couldn't fix it, and another refused to come out and take a look without me agreeing to an exorbitant and non-refundable charge. Sam fixed it quickly and affordably. Best plumbers in Pasadena, hands down. This is our new go-to plumbing company! I called them, they quoted me a reasonable price to have someone out by the end of the day and then, to my delight were there within the hour and solved the issue in less than half an hour! They were the most affordable plumbers I found in Pasadena and, believe me, I called around. Chachi, Raul, and Andrew came out and solved the problem, no questions asked, just did their job with a smile and even provided some really useful information on how to prevent this from happening again, why it was happening and if it does what we need to do to take care of it, or where we need to go to get the supplies we need for a reasonable price. Not only were Chachi, Raul and Andrew were very professional and took care of the situation with no hassle, they made it seem super simple, and they did an awesome job, saved our bathroom, and just like that, were on their way. Homeowner trying to address a plumbing issue on my condo from a distance. Raul & company made it easy on me. They kept me in the loop every step of the way and they were very honest about the issue. Price was reasonable and from what I heard from, they did an awesome job. The job was a complicated one and it seems to have been fully resolved. We'll keep an eye on the previous plumbing issue/leak to make sure it was indeed fully resolved and update Yelp if necessary. But all in all... I am happy with the service and honesty of Happy Sam's. Wanted to update my review. I've used Sam's for the building I manage, but today my parents needed a water heater badly. They fit them into the schedule and my parents were happy with the price and service. He even adjusted the water pressure for them. It's awesome now days to find a good company you can trust. I have to talk up the guys at Happy Sam's because they took care of me 2 days in a row (Murphy's Law). First a clog, then the next day a water heather went out. The guys showed up both days and were fast at taking care of the situation. I manage an apartment so getting hot water for my tenants was important. One of the guys even drove out to Corona to get a part. Getting a follow up call to ask if everything went well and how I liked the service was a nice touch. Thanks for all the help guys. read more

I've used Sam in the past and been very pleased. But, it's time to look for another plumber. I called Friday afternoon and got a call back about an hour later. It wasn't Sam. I assumed Sam had hired a helper. He asked if he could come Saturday morning instead. I said that would be fine. I asked for 7 am and he said that was perfect. I called at 8 am when he didn't show up and there was no answer. He finally called at 10 am, again not Sam. He said he would be honest, he just over slept. I said that was fine. He finally showed up around 10:30. It was a plumber with a different name on the truck. After spending about an hour on the job he told me he couldn't fix it and my entire drain system would need to be replumbed. I told him to just put everything back together and I would get my handyman to come out and look at it. I asked him how much for time even though he couldn't fix it. He told me $240.00 because it was Saturday. I told him I was not going to pay that much for an hour's worth of work and not fixing anything. We settled on $120. My handyman showed up Saturday evening and fixed the problem in less than 30 minutes. He told me Sam moved to Germany and sold him the business. Time to find a new plumber. read more

Unfortunately I did not have the same experience as everyone else who had reviewed HSP. I was in escrow on a property and drainage as well plumbing needed to be inspected. Searched on Yelp saw all the great reviews of HSP and booked an appointment and got a quote for $140. The appointment was for 10:30A on a saturday morning. When Saturday arrived, 10:30am came and went no call no plumber. 10:40 comes around and I get a call "hey you the one on (so so street)? I'll be there in 25 minutes." 25 minutes??? The appointment was at 10:30am not sometime saturday. It turns out it was Al who called, showed up late didn't give a reason why nor did he apologize for being late, instead, one of the first things he says is "you know this inspection isn't free right?" On to the inspection, Al spends the majority of the inspection in front of the water heater, does his inspection brags about how he's thorough and is honest in his inspection because "the man upstairs will judge him therefore he lives in the truth and dies by it." He then wrote down the needed repairs on carbon copy papers hands it over to me and as I'm writing a check out to him I mention the 10% discount I saw on Yelp and he says "oh ok it's $170 then." I told him I was quoted $140 and he says "oh that works too" WTF? where is my discount and what was the 170 quote? He sounded like he pulled that number out of thin air, i didn't get a yelp discount, and what happened to living and dying by the truth? Busted Al, and not even by the man upstairs just a simple Yelper who asked for professionalism and honesty but experienced none of it with you. read more

Al from Happy Sam's Plumbing did the most amazing job for me, at a price that I can't believe. I bought an old house this year. What was left undisclosed to me was that a plumber in the past had their snake stuck in the main sewer line. Instead of fixing the problem the plumber had cut the line about 3 feet below the clear out. So, the inspector missed this and it wasn't until I had to have the drain snaked for backing up that the next plumber immediately found the problem. We ran a camera down the drain and realized the snake ran 100 feet all the way to the main sewer line, where it was tied up into a big knot. We tried to pull some, but this snake was stuck. I soon learned that it had been like this for one year--and required a monthly clean out in order to keep the drain clear. I got a few quotes for the repair. Because the sewer line ran underneath the city street---this repair would require a permit to tear up and repave the street in addition to digging a new 10 foot deep trench. I had 3 quotes--none less than $15,000 for the work. On a recommendation from one of the plumbers--he said to call Al at Happy Sam's because sometimes he can do things no one else can. On the phone, I explained my situation. He asked if anyone had crawled into the manhole and looked at this from the sewer side. I said no, and he said that he would definitely want to try that. He arrived on time, with 2 helpers. He said before he went down to the sewer he wanted to try and pull on the line. I told him 2 others had tried, and I had seen on the camera first hand that the knot would not budge. He insisted. From the main clear out he tugged for a half hour and the line wouldn't budge. At this point, I asked him what his estimate would be for the work. He said he had an idea to dig and meet the line about 20' downline. He would charge $1200 if he was successful, and $900 if he wasn't. Still skeptical, I agreed. Al's attitude was amazing the entire time--he was going to solve this no matter what--not give up and walk away. He dug a hole and snipped the snake in half and easily pulled out the smaller section, but the sewer section remained. He tied a pulley system to it and tugged for an hour, slowly working it out. I went to the store to buy hand soap and red bull. We used some soap to loosen the snake, and Al downed the red bull. Almost 2 hours later he removed the snake--it was almost like finishing a marathon. He patched the sewer pipe and cleaned up after himself. It has been about 3 months and I have not had a drain backup issue again. He saved me literally thousands of dollars with his can do attitude. No other plumber was as creative or as effective. Without hesitation I would recommend Al at Happy Sam's. He was upfront and completely fair on his pricing. He did something that everyone else had told me would cost 10's of thousands for $1200. read more

After reading the good reviews here, I decided to give Happy Sam's Plumbing a shot and I wasn't dissapointed. I had a temperature control valve that was really hard to remove. One other plumber from Rotor Rooter said I would need to knock a hole in the wall to fix this. Fortunately, I didn't follow his advice. Sam himself came by on time last Saturday at 8:00 am and found out himself how hard the valve was to remove. He called in one his other guys, Mario, who came out in about ten minutes and after playing with it for about 15 minutes, was finally able to get the valve out. I had a bought a replacement part but, it was the wrong one so while Mario went out to get the right part, Sam installed a new kitchen faucet that I recently bought. By ten, everything was done. Sam didn't charge me extra to have Mario come out and even gave me credit for the wrong part that I bought online. The only thing extra I had to provide was a strong cup of coffee as Sam worked on the kitchen faucet. ;-) All in all, I was very impressed by the level of service that was delivered and I heartily recommend Happy Sam's Plumbing to my fellow Pasadena yelpers! read more

Based upon Yelp reviews, I called Sam today on Thanksgiving Morning to fix a broken kitchen sink drain. Sam came today on Thanksgiving Morning. He ran slightly late and called me that he would be fifteen minutes late. He came with the required parts and within twenty minutes, the kitchen drain was working. He asked for a reasonable rate. We had a leak under the kitchen sink. We have home insurance, but their plumbers won't be able to come out until two days later. We called Happy "Sams" based on the positive reviews we saw on Yelp. However, the experience turned out to be disappointing. The plumber replaced the angle stop, but was not able to stop the leak. He then claimed that the problem was more serious and the whole section of hot water line needed to be replaced (an estimated cost of $600+). He charged us $95, but essentially did not fix anything. As a result, we had to shut off water for two days and still called our home insurance company to send their contractor. The plumber affiliated with our home insurance company came, fixed the leak in 10 minutes, and said the leak has nothing to do with the hot water line or the angle-stop. In fact, the problem was identified in the cold water line. Two stars for Happy Sams' quick response. But I won't use their service again. read more

Sam and his crew cut and replaced our clean-out valve top, cleared our backed-up main line, offered a 1-year warranty and did it for a very reasonable price! On a Saturday with short notice I might add. And, when it backed up the following week, they were back out to access another clean-out and unclogged the main a second time...at NO charge to us. Sam's a man of his word, he's good at what he does, and I sincerely believe that he really enjoys helping people. We are lucky to have found him and his team. Septic pump not working so came to Yelp to look for plumbers. Happy Sam's review shows they worked on "sump pump", not sure whether mine is "sump pump" but it's a pump so hopefully they can fix. A Latino guy (bad English) showed up, looked at the problem, then kept trying to reach his boss on the phone for pricing, couldn't reach boss - it's strange since I've already texted pictures to Sam and described the problem, Sam should have just quoted a price for labor and I will pay for the pump. Later I got a call from another plumber so I told Sam's guy that I can't use them. Later Sam called and quoted price via VM, wish he has done it earlier. Price was reasonable and his plumber showed up on time, although the whole thing was a bust, 2 star. Wish he has just quoted and got the job done. the other plumber I used was very honest, although I paid more than what Sam quoted via phone. read more
