Charlie's Sewer and Drain set up an appointment and sent out their plumbing tech Cesar to have a look. Cesar was on time, friendly, and knowledgable. He popped open the trap and also tried to clear the clog in the drain with his more industrial-strength snake. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful -- the pipes are so old and corroded that we suspect it will take a much bigger repair. He wrapped up and cleaned up, and after we discussed possible next steps, he got us an estimate for further work within the hour. He didn't charge us since we weren't able to get the clog cleared, which I really appreciate. I sent Doug a message on Yelp, and he responded quickly with what turned out to be the correct diagnosis: biofilm buildup in the sink's overflow area. Even more impressive, he told me it was something I could probably fix myself. He offered to talk with me by phone and patiently explained what was going on, which I really appreciated because I honestly didn't even understand how that part of the sink worked.
