I cannot thank Dr. Ross enough for truly helping my kitten when we needed it most…read more Last year, I adopted a kitten who recently developed a severe allergic reaction to something in our environment (either food or a household cleaner). I initially took her to another vet in town, and it was a complete nightmare. They charged me a fortune ($$$) and put her on heavy, unnecessary medications. When I called them a few days later to report that she wasn't getting any better, their actual response was, "Don't know what to tell you." Frustrated and looking for answers, I made an appointment with Dr. Ross. The difference was night and day. He thoroughly checked her out, got right to the root of the problem, and confirmed it was simply allergies. Instead of masking the issue with a cocktail of pills, he gave her a single steroid shot and clearly explained exactly what elements to avoid at home. Thanks to him, my kitten is doing fantastic and we are finally all good! Dr. Ross is incredibly straightforward, takes the actual time to investigate the cause of an illness, and focuses on the right solution rather than just racking up a bill. If you want a vet who genuinely cares and gives honest, effective care, see Dr. Ross

Absolutely do NOT recommend VCA Old River Animal Hospital. They have changed for the worse…read more Their system "glitched" and somehow deleted my dog's long-standing auto-ship medication that had been on file with Dr. Jackson, who was AMAZING. Of course, Dr. Jackson has now left, and everything has gone downhill since. Now the "general manager" -- who is not a veterinarian -- decided to play doctor and tell me that my dog's condition, pannus (chronic superficial keratitis, scar tissue/cloudiness in BOTH eyes), isn't a chronic condition. That is flat-out wrong. Pannus IS chronic and requires lifelong management. I'm sorry, but where did you get your veterinary license to make medical decisions? Instead of simply continuing an established treatment plan that has already been diagnosed, documented, and treated for, they now want me to: Cancel all my existing plans Schedule a visit with another doctor Pay AGAIN Just to be told the exact same thing: Yes, he has pannus. Yes, it's chronic. Yes, he needs ongoing medication. This is a complete waste of time, completely unnecessary stress for my dog, and feels like nothing more than a money-making scheme. This hospital used to be great. Now it's disorganized, dismissive, and more interested in billing than patient care. Losing Dr. Jackson clearly took the quality of care with him. Highly disappointed. Highly frustrated. Highly do NOT recommend.

Once I finally was able to commit to a date, the correspondence I received from TPA was clear and helpful. I was told when to begin restricting food/water, what time to arrive, and the details of the check-in process. As directed, I arrived by 8am and notified office staff. I was quickly greeted by the vet tech, Jill, who was absolutely the best. Jill was warm, patient, and knowledgeable. She let me see where the procedure would be preformed and where Zero would be held, and explained when/why she would call (if blood work was concerning, if it wasn't safe to sedate, if they had suggested extractions). Despite being nervous, Jill definitely helped me feel better about leaving my boy in her care. Since his bloodwork was fine, the next time I heard from Jill was when she called to share suggested extractions. She briefly reviewed the dentition of a dog, explained where there were areas of concern in Zero's mouth, and was able to give me monetary figures when asked. She took time to consider my follow-up questions and I felt the interaction was professional while being empathetic and frank. At no time did I feel that she was trying to upsell me or otherwise get more money out of me. When I picked Zero up, Jill came out holding him. She sat with me and reviewed his bloodwork line by line, his X-rays, and showed me before and after pictures of his teeth. She also provided me with clearly labeled medications. We talked about food and general aftercare, including what I might observe, and I felt comfortable about heading home. We are now at the tail end of recovery and Zero has done fantastic, and I truly attribute a lot of that to Jill & her efforts. Thank you!

This seems like a bit of a repetitive review…read more The good: Very clean. Very nice. Great hours and availability. The docs seem to know what's going on. They have a lot of staff on hand and specific prescription food. Their response for prescriptions to send out to Chewy is also very fast. The bad: Most of the time I call and they answer and ask me to hold (unless it' an emergency). I hold and hold ... and HOLD. In fact I have held sometimes over 20 minutes and nobody every comes back to help me. Just because it's not an emergency and I am willing to hold that does not mean FOREVER! After you help your customer in line then it's my turn please. Oh also, you had better have a LOT of money because this place will not start with the basic things. They immediately head right to the easiest way to make as much money as possible. Cat got a wheeze and lost a couple pounds? Let's run bloodwork for $650. That all came back fine? Oh ok, then let's do an Xray for $650. All clear there? Doc basically refuses anything else but an exam of the GI for $750. We pass on the GI test and the breathing get's worse. Call back and now they want to start the process over again with chest Xrays for another $650. How about starting out small and do some steroids or an antibiotic first? I guess that's not going to make them enough money. Imagine going into a doctor and saying you have a fever and a cough and they immediately send you in for Xrays and bloodwork and CT scans and an MRI just for the hell of it. Hey Jules ... Not everyone has a money tree in the back yard.

She was excreting puss from her uterus and was clinging to life. When no other clinic in Sacramento would make time to see her, I reached out to Grantline Veterinary Hospital and despite being over an hour away and fully booked, they showed me compassion and agreed to see my dog. They did a round of X-rays on her, gave her subcutaneous fluids, antibiotics, and sound advice to de-stress her that you don't find online. That was Tuesday evening. I didn't really notice the difference until Wednesday night when she had a full 24 hours of antibiotics and I was able to relocate her pups to a certified whelper. She started eating again, vigorously at that. Her internal puss discharge decreased by 95%, and her energy levels went back to normal. Now not even 66 hours later, I have my old dog back! She's jumping around like the puppy she once was! Thank you Doc! Please listen to these guys. They will save your dogs life!

Easily perfect service, from them and the vet tech who did the work. 5/5* 1 month and 3 days later, I call this business back because I'd like to give them more business- that's what you do when you feel cared for. I'm not gonna bad mouth nobody, but whoever answered today completely turned me off from this place. Sam come train the weekend warrior. You don't tell the customer who states exactly what they want- which is a service you provide, that they have to jump through hoops to get it. You made me feel like I was talking to a scam artist today. 0/5* My general consensus is that your experience will depend upon the employee you get when you call in. 50/50 for me right now but I'm unsure if I'll bring Kiona back after this call for a routine ear cleaning felt more predatory than caring.

If only there was a zero star rating…read more In a nutshell, the overall ratings of this location as 2 stars says it all. But here's our story: We took our cat to them for serious issues. Their temp doctor said tests needed to be done, but we should take him to VEG in San Ramon. So we did. VEG took care of him. Then I looked at the paperwork from Banfield before sending it to our insurance. The date of birth was made up because we were never asked. Then a bunch of items were marked as "client declined", which never happened. It's been 3 weeks we've been trying and each time we were told they don't have a way to get a hold of the doctor and he's the only one that can change things. When asked for the manager, we were told she was out sick. Each time it was, "she should be back in a couple of days". After getting tired of this, I called the corporate office. Got a run around and then transferred to a "care team member". I was told that someone should get back to me within 3-5 business days. 6 business days later, yesterday I went there and the receptionist said she was out sick. When I said I wasn't leaving without speaking with someone, she appeared out of the back office. Needless to say, she wasn't helpful, but was rude and said she was going to call the cops. And gave me a number to the corporate office (wrong number). I said she should and I called their corporate office at the correct number I had. The person told me she would escalate the complaint and I should hear back before the end of the day. Didn't happen. I called again right now and got the same 3-5 days story. Apparently the so called "care team" is a buffer to keep customers from voicing their concerns to the stakeholders. I asked the "care team member" what happens if I don't get a call back? She said without hesitation that I'd have to wait another 3 days and call again. If you don't think this is ridiculous, I don't know what is. When you read the above, a lot of questions about discrepancies will arise. The question to each discrepancy is "Why?" Why the refusal to correct? Why the lies? Why no return calls? Why they said they don't have the number to call the doctor they call all the time? Why? Why? Why? Finally, what is it they are trying to hide or avoid? If you care about your pet's health, avoid this place and any Banfield hospital.
