Absolutely do NOT recommend VCA Old River Animal Hospital. They have changed for the worse. Their system "glitched" and somehow deleted my dog's long-standing auto-ship medication that had been on file with Dr. Jackson, who was AMAZING. Of course, Dr. Jackson has now left, and everything has gone downhill since. Now the "general manager" -- who is not a veterinarian -- decided to play doctor and tell me that my dog's condition, pannus (chronic superficial keratitis, scar tissue/cloudiness in BOTH eyes), isn't a chronic condition. That is flat-out wrong. Pannus IS chronic and requires lifelong management. I'm sorry, but where did you get your veterinary license to make medical decisions? Instead of simply continuing an established treatment plan that has already been diagnosed, documented, and treated for, they now want me to: Cancel all my existing plans Schedule a visit with another doctor Pay AGAIN Just to be told the exact same thing: Yes, he has pannus. Yes, it's chronic. Yes, he needs ongoing medication. This is a complete waste of time, completely unnecessary stress for my dog, and feels like nothing more than a money-making scheme. This hospital used to be great. Now it's disorganized, dismissive, and more interested in billing than patient care. Losing Dr. Jackson clearly took the quality of care with him. Highly disappointed. We were away on vacation for a few weeks and my dog got sick. Being away from home we weren't sure what to do. We took her to VCA Old River and saw Dr. Jackson. He was so caring and thorough. Later that week we ended up having to take her to the emergency room but Dr. Jackson was able to follow up with them, request results and checked in on us several times over the next week. Yesterday i brought posey in for exam of skin growth on her belly, its been there a while and recently started getting rubbed and bleeding on her blankets and getting blood on carpet, shes 12 yrs old so we were prepared to put her down if necessary, estimate to remove it was $2607.- $3259. I asked doctor is there any less expensive treatments for it, he said no. So i went home and prepared my family for posey to be put down, my daughter took it very hard, i had made an appointment in modesto at animal medical center on carpenter rd, and depending on their exam i would decide if we would put her down, anyway doctor was very nice and they did precedure for third of cost, while i waited there, it only took couple hours, im so thankful for going to modesto clinic, my family was prepared for posey to be gone, thankfully shes still with us read more

This vet almost killed my dog. he gave her a starting dose of 100 mg tablet of trazodone when as you can clearly see she should just started out at a minimum of 25 mg tablet since she only weighs 19.2 pounds I went to the vet office to let him know what happened since I gave it to her on Tuesday, and since then she has been throwing up nonstop, diarrhea, nonstop can't walk straight she couldn't even jump. We had to lift her and put her on the bed put her on the couch on the chair. She couldn't do anything. She just laid there. It was the most horrible thing I've ever seen and when I went to the vet, he said hundred milligrams is the standard dose. I give all my dog and I said no that can't be right because all dogs weigh something different and you go by kilos in their weight so she should've had a minimum of 25 mg he didn't take any responsibility for what drugging my dog like that. He never apologized. Never asked how she was doing. Just kept saying what do you want me to do about it that I can't predict how dogs react well that's true, but you can at least own up and acknowledge that you screwed up and gave her too much medication that should have started out at the smaller job, but I got none of that so here I am posting this online because I don't want this to happen to anybody else's dog with this vet. read more

As a new patient, they saw my cat for a second opinion after having a stroke. The vet treated my cat well but was not very friendly to humans. The room I was put in smelled of urine. The floor was not clean. The table was dirty. Makes you wonder what else my cat was exposed to in this dirty room. read more

Cut my dogs foot while "trimming nails" and did not tell me they cut her. Tried to charge me $32 for a nail trim when they said they couldn't trim her back feet after they placed my 14 year old dog on her back she was "slipping and sliding all over the place"... so they just didn't do her back paws....but still have to charge full price. My daughter had her two rescue kittens. They were both vaccinated. But One got leukemia. Linda was so Compassionate and understanding. Dr. Jackson was incredibly patient, respectful and caring. Answered my daughter through email to understand what Poppy was going through. Poppy died after 1.5 yrs of life. He was such a strong, sweet boy. He was so strong we thought he might beat the leukemia. But one morning we found him passed away. I called old river and they said they could cremate Poppy. We could bring him in any time. We did the private cremation, they have us a paw print, a bottle with some of Poppy's fur and now my daughter has Poppy near her wherever she goes. It's such a sad situation. With all the appointments, old River exceeded any expectations. They were all so amazing. Where Jules vet fell so far short. read more

Wow!!! My dog had some pain on a Thursday night. I called Friday for an appointment and they scheduled me for monday. I am so pleased with the quick response, and service me and my baby dog received. not only was the staff very helpful but the doctor was very attentive and friendly. Dr. Susan Trujillo answered all of my questions and evaluated my dog thoroughly. She even went as far as to look up a harness that she recommended I use for my dog. I will never go to any other doctor for my dog, other than Dr. Susan Trujillo. She was caring and understanding. I have made a second appointment for booster shots for my dog. Absolutely excellent. They were kind and professional and thorough and thoughtful. I was so apprehensive in finding a new vet after moving but I loved this experience. Everyone was so kind and I felt like I got a ton of information and they listened to what I said without judgement and gave advice without patronizing or fearmongering. The dogs were shaking when we arrived but as soon as the vet tech came in and loved on them, both settled right down. They were thoughtful in how we walked through to avoid unnecessary encounters with other dogs. I cannot say enough kind things to recommend this vet. I recently had an experience where my oldest cat got really sick. I had to actually rush him to the emergency room where I live in Fremont. He had fever from unknown origin and was in the hospital for quite some time. During that experience, I had reached out to Dr. Jackson, who is my veterinary to leverage his support and who helped me understand the situation and provided much needed advice and comfort through this very challenging time. Dr. Jackson and his team lended their support since we've been a long-standing customer of theirs and just help me break down the conversation and interpretation from the emergency vet. I am so grateful for the team that's at VCA including techs, Suzanne and Amy, and Linda the receptionist who is always so pleasant to work with on the phone. My kitty is doing better now and I've taken him in recently to see the VCA team that got me through this hard time and thankfully he's on the mend, in which I'm very grateful. Took dog for thyroid test and the vet notified us of results quickly. She changed dosage and dog is doing better.

Both of my dogs have been going here for years but this week they have gone above and beyond to help my boxer who had a foxtail up in his paw and needed a scope to find it. They were warm and helpful to make my dog comfortable as he was very apprehensive about what was going on. From beginning to end they did everything to make my little buddy feel comfortable in the situation. So far so good! We came from affordable pet vet clinic and we liked it there. But unfortunately they permanently closed down so we had to find a new vet. Found this place online and husband and I are pretty happy with it. This place actually lets you come in with your pet to their appointment like you should pandemic or not. My husband hated that we couldn't come in at other vet places and see what's going on cuz he naturally doesn't trust a lot of businesses. They let me and my husband in, big big plus for us. Staff is friendly and actually acknowledges and plays with our puppy. It's not strictly all business there where they want you to fill out forms and just pay, they actually make you feel welcomed. The veterinarian's are very knowledgeable and makes sure you understand what's going on. I also like that you can text them to make appointments or if you have general questions as I prefer texting over phone calls or emails, it's just more simple for me. read more

I was a long time Bay Area customer of VCA Lawrence in Santa Clara and I have to say the Bay Area location has a great staff and get Vets. I will leave this review short and simple. It seems they are all over the place on charges and when I asked they didn't like it. I will also admit I became short with my patience and did get upset. Although I can honestly say I have never had a vet do what was done to my pet. My dog Jewel had a appointment for an ultrasound to check for pregnancy and they canceled her appointment and told me not to come back. Apparently they didn't like I was upset for having to reschedule because they double booked their doctor. I unfortunately made the mistake telling them maybe they shouldn't over book. I am very disappointed that the VCA in the central valley is not at the same caliber as the Bay Area. I have been going to VCA at least 10+ years. I couldn't thank them enough for helping my dog out, first off my dog gets pretty aggressive with the vet, and because of this many places have turned us down and wouldn't even try to look at my dog, I get where they're coming from but the fact that this hospital did not turn us down and actually tried to help gave me so much relief, I appreciate you guys for helping my dog out, and not turning us away. Hi I'd just like to say we have been going to old River vet in Tracy since ,1988 2 black labs that lived to be over 18 years old Now we have 3 Schnauzers One Max ,10.5 the second Mr Bill who will be 10 in Jan 2019 and the new pup Tucker who will be one in Jan The people at old River have always been kind, considerate and loving to all of our pups We we're unlucky at first with Billy he had many problems through out his young life From liver shunts to Cancer but he is still with us. we are lucky to have him still with us. Just like human Doctors not all animal Docs Have all the answers. They themselves need to consult with other expert's to provide our fur babies with the best care needed. Update: I emailed the VCA provided email addressing my concerns after their reply, it's been a week & I haven't received a response. Great service! Taking this up to corporate next if I don't receive an email back soon. Unacceptable. If I could put zero stars I would. My pet was having some problems so I took her to this vet. I was familiar with VCA when I lived in the Bay Area and they were great. When I moved to the Central Valley, I naturally went to this VCA. Worst mistake. I paid $500 for a simple test here with no help in the end. They wanted $1k for a different test. I went to a different vet after 2 months of the same problem/no help. VCA Couldn't find any problems and my cat suffered. Different vet did several tests, medicine and even threw in a nail clipping for free, for $200. Found the problem right away. VCA had misdiagnosed her. Save yourself the money and go somewhere else. Your pets and wallet will thank you. read more

The doctors and very assistants were super nice and gentle with my babies. The most amazing thing was that I received a text the next day. I had taken an older cat into Paws & Claws a week before , with the same symptoms and was almost bankrupt by the time I got out the door. While this place does look nice on the outside, inside paints an entirely different story. I adopted a beagle quite awhile ago and took him to OR when they were our vet. He was an older dog so naturally he had a few problems. He developed a tumor on his hind leg and we took him in for surgery. Our dog was never the same after that; demeanor wise. I don't know what they did to him on the operating table, but he was thoroughly screwed up. We took him back when he started acting funny, breathing wise, and discovered that he had an enlarged heart. Instead of doing anything, our vet sent him home where he died the next day on my bed very painfully. Not only are the practicing veterinarians completely unsympathetic it is clear they want to exploit pet lovers for their money. When another dog got sick, we learned from our last experience and sought another opinion. OR wanted us to cough up money for a procedure that only guaranteed my dog's life to 10%. We took my dog to another vet and learned the truth - it would be better to let him pass away. Because the new vet believed my other dog was not in pain he was able to pass pain free with his family surrounding him. Needless to say, we switched from OR to Tracy Veterinary. If you think switching vets was the last I'd hear from them, you're wrong. I went to have my pets' vaccinations files sent from OR to TV only to find that they didn't have any of my pets' records. Why? Because their computer systems were down and they were currently upgrading them. Why these people didn't have them on paper file was beyond me. It was a good thing my mom is such an expert record keeper that she managed to find all the bills for vaccinations. In sum, avoid OR like the plague. Unless you're into animal torture. read more

Old River VCA is by far the best Vet in Tracy and surrounding areas. If you want your fur baby to have the best care you need to switch and bring them into this amazing and compassionate staff. When you're scared for your baby the last thing you need is to wonder if they are getting the best care. The veterinarians always have a game plan with treatment. They never run a test if it's not necessary which I love because my previous place was always charging me for ridiculous things I later found out was harmful to my pet. Recently our Labrador retriever had a serious spinal cord injury. And though Old River is not a 24hr vet. Once they opened the Dr. called me right away to let me know the importance of getting him to a neurologist for an MRI. They have reached out to check in on him and help relieve my anxiety. They fit me into an already booked schedule. Words can not express the gratitude I have for every staff member at Old River. The piece of mind, quality of care and overall compassion is what Old River provides to me and all my fur babies. If you are looking for the BEST! that's exactly what Old River is. read more

I called a number or Vets for prices and quotes about vet care and they seem to be priced reasonably that's a plus, but the minus is some services such as x-rays and other services that are not covered under the care club are by a couple hundred dollars more than other vets. If you have to leave your pet for treatment they charge for boarding even if its for an hour, other vet's in the Mountain House area doesn't. The staff also seemed annoyed that I asking for pricing. I explained I wanted to make a right decision for my pet, and I am on a budget, the lady on the phone tells me well maybe we are not the place for your pet. THE WORST PLACE YOU COULD GO FOR HELP WITH A SICK ANIMAL/PET. They will take as much money as they can and do as little as possible for your pet. This "Animal Hospital" is the reason why people try to help their sick pets at home first. They should be closed down-they pray on people who are only seeking care for their animals and try to add bogus charges they can't explain as well as trying to add anything they can to inflate the bill...They blatantly tried to get an extra $40.00 charge (they couldn't explain) and then $200.00 out of me for tests they couldn't even run in house-that would take a week for results to come back. My dog was massively bleeding internally. They charged me $90.00 for an emergency visit and then made me and my dog wait while the sauntered around for 30 minutes easily. Mind you the place was empty. The Vet was incredibly rude and cold to me and my pet. He wasted precious time asking me questions like if I brush my dogs teeth. Then with days before Christmas I told him I would do anything I could afford to help my little dog live-he told me he doesn't know what prices are but he would never work with someone on a price, he told me I could have flown in on a jet or win the lotto tomorrow. The lack of bed side manor was the least of the problems I faced with this place. I have never met a colder vet that seemed to have no compassion for an animal or a pet owner. I went there in search of help and threw myself at their mercy- no one cared, no one moved quickly or stopped chatting to help me or my pet. I am lucky she's alive-I spent over $300 to be sent home with medicine that may not help her. They didn't care about following up or explaining anything. I have fostered and had dogs my whole life, gone though all sorts of experiences and this by far is the worst vet and practice I have ever seen. Maybe they have lost their love and empathy for hurt animals because I could never be so callus or cold to anyone going through what I went through in front of them. It has been 24 hours since my visit and nothing about my dog seems to be improving. All I am left with is resentment for this practice. update to my recent review: Today i had to put my dog down. She lost use of her back legs two nights ago. This, despite pain meds (tramadol) that I give her for spinal arthritis. She also stopped eating and drinking at that time. We stayed up all last night syringing her fluids. my neighbor recommended another vet to put her down, since the jerk at VCA Old River said she was in great shape and needed only skin treatment and pain meds (which we already had), and $$ other treatment. The experience today at another vet, although sad and difficult, was handled in the best manner. Vet examined her and said she had lost all nerve function below mid-spine and was paralyzed. He said euthanasia was the best decision, and it was actually overdue. She was dehydrated, and suffering kidney failure. I am so very angry at VCA Old River Vet for refusing to put down my suffering dog less than 2 mos ago. I only hope there is a special place in Hell for the dr. who tried to keep my poor, suffering dog alive, and tried to shame us into thinking we should do more to prolong the suffering, when we had already made that difficult decision. I had been looking for a good vet, close to home for a couple of years. The VCA website referred me to Old River and they fit me in for my kitten's first wellness exam very quickly. The service I received....from the website, to the receptionist (Bobby), to the vet tech (Suzanne), to the vet (Dr. Machicao) was excellent. My kitten received the proper medication to treat his various ailments and his condition actually improved within several hours. He went from gagging, grinding his teeth, not eating, losing weight and being unable to meow....to eating everything in sight! And he can now meow! He's been running around and playing, like a kitten should! I feel confident enough with Old River to return with my other pets. I highly recommend them. read more

We have been bringing our dog here for several years. About 9 weeks ago my dog was struggling to breathe and I had to bring her to Paws and Claws late a night for an emergency visit. The vet we saw there completely misdiagnosed her and two days later I took her to see Dr. Jackson at Old River. He was very thorough and within one visit identified the problem, pleural effusion. No doubt, my dog would have suffered and died within days if I hadn't taken her to Old River. Dr. Jackson has been compassionate, thorough, caring and comprehensive. Dr. Jackson's recommended treatment has given far more quality time spent with our pet that we originally didn't think we'd get. I am absolutely thankful and grateful for the staff and veterinarian team at VCA Old River Animal Hospital. My mom took her dog there first and when I got my first dog, 10 years ago, I began taking him there, too. Since then, Peanut has had a fair share of medical issues. A tumor in his eye exploded and he is a cancer survivor. Each time, the vets at this hospital, took care of Peanut as though he was their own. They never think I am too much or get annoyed when I call with my never ending questions. Thank you so much for the kindness and love you've shown to our dog over the past 10 years. The employees here are very rude and treat you like a nuisance. They said they would call our regular vets for my dogs shot records, but had not when I arrived the next day to get updated shots. We usually go to the Lathrop vet for boarding, but my parents wanted to go here because it was closer. The lady in the front was clearly annoyed that she had to call and get the info when it was them that offered to do so the day before. The technicians weren't friendly with my dogs at all. After the visit, I didn't even want to leave my dogs with them, but it was too last minute to rearrange a new place. When we came back, my dogs seemed so depressed. I honestly prefer the Lathrop boarding place better. I'll never make that mistake again. P.S. Jules Vet is friendlier and actually treat you and your animal with respect. read more

New customer with three disparate personalities - The Flirt, the Scaredy-cat, and the I'm-Not-Coming-Out - that all needed shot updates. I was able to get multiple convenient appointments with time in between to take #1 home, pick up #2...... The vet techs were very good with all of my pets - fleece blankies on the cold tables and (probably) WAY too many treats for good behavior. I realize Dr. Machicao had seen me three times in under 20 hours, but on my final appointment, she was already familiar enough with one, to notice the differences in a second littermate.
